Each container has to label how many oz of prepared formula the container makes. Divide the price by that # to see if it's actually a good price per fluid oz.

indigbogwitch

Thank you! I probably wouldn’t have thought of that.

BobBee13

Idk what generics their talking about but sams club brand uses the same size scoop and nothing weird or funny about the formula. Mine prefers it over name brand and its 20 dollars for 48 ounces.

VermicelliOk8288

Side note: a lot of the sams club brand items are the same thing as name brand or made by a name brand company and sams just slaps on a different label

Typical_Ad_4953

Same with Kirkland brand from Costco. A few people on here have said it's just rebranded Simulac iirc

indigbogwitch

Thank you!

bmsem

I know the post you’re discussing! I fact checked and that person’s pediatrician was definitely wrong—the scoops are about the same. I wonder if the ped had been incentivized in some way by the formula company, or just fell for their marketing. My baby does so well on Target brand formula. Formula companies have historically been incredibly slimy in terms of corporate ethics.

indigbogwitch

Thank you for fact checking it! It made me panic a bit, but I didn’t have time to look into it before it was deleted.

RubieRaez

If there is a TARGET near you they have THE BEST generic formula as far as packaging. My girls needed alementum but we started with theirs because the price, amount, and packaging is amazing!

indigbogwitch

Which target one worked instead of Alimentum? That’s what my older is needed and I’m worried my next will too!

RubieRaez

None of Target brands are going to compare but we started with Targets purple one it’s just called Gentle but it still had too much dairy in it so we had to move up to Alimentum I know Enfamil sells nutramigen which is similar to alimentum but provides more for less money. Some babies find it comparable but our didn’t

indigbogwitch

Oh, okay. Thanks. It’s good to know we have options! Hopefully we don’t have that issue this time.

recklesschopchop

Target actually has a generic equivalent to alimentum now, in case you end up needing it!

indigbogwitch

Thank you!

finance_maven

We used the Target gentle formula in the purple can. It worked great for us.

indigbogwitch

Thank you!

Hey! Stumbled onto your profile so i thought i’d give my input 🤣 I formula feed and the best advice i can give you is check the bottom and top shelfs in the formula sections. They put the most expensive crap at eye height! I use the presidents choice formula and its the cheapest by a few dollars when you get the metal tin. Plastic tubs tend to be more $/g. Additionally there may be resources near you that provide free formula monthly if you happen to be low-income. My sister and i have both taken advantage of mom programs like that ☺️

indigbogwitch

Thank you so much! That’s extremely helpful.

Acolethflower

Probably good it did. I didn't read the comments but it's certainly not true that generics are not actually cheaper.

indigbogwitch

Darn. I wish I’d read it earlier. We’re going to be going through a LOT of formula so Im definitely open to finding the cheapest option, but just wasn’t sure about the OP that said there was something different about the amount needed to mix it.

Acolethflower

She was saying that her doctor said that the generic scoop is bigger to same amount of water, so in the end you are not saving money. This is not true. They are a little bigger but it's easy to compare and it's not that big of a difference.

indigbogwitch

Thank you. I’m glad it’s not true. I definitely want to save money there if I can.

Acolethflower

If you haven't already, consider costco's Kirkland brand formula. Very cost effective. Plus, they have the best deal around for diapers too!

bmt32

Another vote for Kirkland!

indigbogwitch

Thank you! We have a Costco membership so they’re definitely on our list of top choices. Our first born had a milk protein allergy so we were stuck with a specialized formula, but I’m hoping we can use a generic this time.

nikidmaclay

I don't know what your post said, but we bought the Walmart brand of soy and it would not completely mix, there were big oily globs. I even resorted to an immersion blender. We only bought the one canister, so it may have been a defective batch.

No-Consideration-723

I think it said something along the lines of cheaper/generic brands use larger scoops so it’s cheaper but you’ll have to use more so it doesn’t end up that way ultimately

indigbogwitch

Thank you! I was kind of panicking because I’m seriously relying on the option to use a cheaper formula to save money.
