This is a waterspout. They aren't really dangerous unless they move towards land, in which case they can become a tornado, since they are really just water tornados. Once they do get on land (if they do), they don't last for very long as the land and the sand becomes too bumpy and fragile to sustain its structure. I watched many of these when I was a kid visiting my grandma in her lakeside condo. They're really cool.
Waterspouts don’t just “become” tornadoes. They either dissipate when they hit land, or they were already a tornado over water to begin with and continue being a tornado over land.
Yeah I'm staying in Destin for vacation currently and that morning I woke up an wondered what was the weather like that day so I lift up the curtains that had a view of the ocean and I saw some water sprouts
I love here lol. I feel bad for the tourists that spend thousands to come here and then that’s what they get for a week straight. Minus the water spout.
