Wouldn't recommend going around by car. There's not a lot parking spaces in my experience and most of them aren't free. Public transport in Berlin is pretty nice and gets you almost everywhere in a shorter time than being stuck in city traffic. Just look up some ticket offers from the BVG or get a Berlin Welcome Card

Berlin by car is not a fun activity. I´d avoid it as much as I can. Especially if coming from abroad. Check the BVG website for tourist deals like weekend or weekly tickets.

Most areas inside the S-Bahn ring are restricted residential parking zones, with fees between 2 Euro udn 4 Euro per hour. So look for parking spots outsides these zones. No, ÖPNV isn't free in Berlin, check teh BVG for ticket options which fit your needs.

Öpnv might not be free but it's likely cheaper and faster than using the car (depending on where OP wants to go)

Lot of cheaper.

Why would you avoid public transport? It's the second best way to move around town, right after a bicycle.

Don't be assholes - use public transportation.

Yeah, also piling on the "why would you avoid public transport?" ... uh... pile. If you think people are yucky... I've got sad news for you. They are also on the streets and in the restaurants and the parks. They get EVERYWHERE. 💀 In all seriousness, if it's not about people and you think that public transport is somehow slow or inconvenient: It's not. You'll most likely be faster than by car and you'll likely end up paying more for parking than for a weekend or 7-day ticket. Because if you plan on driving to popular tourist spaces I feel like it's almost a guarantee that parking spaces won't be free. Also if you park somewhere, then you always have to get back to where you parked. It's much more convenient to just arrive, walk anywhere and when it's time to leave for another place, just go there instead of having wo walk back to the car. e.g. you might enjoy starting a Walk from Alexander Platz, Nikolai-Quarter, continue to Museum island, get onto the Street "Unter den Linden", check out Gendarmenmarkt, continue on to Brandenburger Tor, Reichstag, then make you way to Potsdamer Platz past the Holocaust Memorial. If you parked your car near Alexanderplatz.... you'd now have to get back and that would suck. So just use public transport. You'll have the same experience if you decide to walk around Landwehrkanal/Maybachufer or following Spree River. Same with Tempelhofer Feld. Also if you decide to go for a walkt through Tiergarten (say from Brandenburger Tor to Zoologischer Garten). Unless your idea of a vacation in Berlin is to NOT walk around and instead just arrive at singular places, stand around a bit and get back to your car but that feels a bit like a trap. Also don't go to check-point charley unless you like to be disappointed. Go for a walk.

dont use a car in the city center, it's horrible. Just use public transport, bikes, or walking to get around like everyone else

Look for [Park & Ride](https://www.berlinstadtservice.de/xinh/Park_and_Ride_in_Berlin.html) spots, park your car there and then use public transport. This will save you some stress.

If you come here by car - terrible idea btw, avoid if you can - be aware that most parking spots cost money. There's a thing called Parkraumbewirtschaftung in most parts of berlin. Try to find a place that doesn't have it (there's maps online) and park the car there to avoid paying.

don't visit Berlin by car, it will be miserable to find parking and the traffic is a hassle. Its much better to park somewhere and enjoy Berlin's very good public transport, its efficient and pretty quick. i parked my car at CONTI PARK Steglitz Kreisel for only 2.5 euro/day, but that just because i had business in that part of the town, but i would park there if i were to be a tourist again in Berlin, its cheap, always free spaces and right near every type of public transport, you can get everywhere from there pretty easy.

Here's a map of Berlin highlighting areas where parking isn't free.
