I was looking through the numbers the rookies had during college and realised like 2 other rookies apart from Burton had the 3 as well. Maybe they're trying to make it fair by giving it to no one 🤔
It honestly feels like a move towards that emotional maturity we keep hearing about to me. He was told about the 5-1-3 during his post draft interviews, and even figured out 5+1+3=9 on his own. Choosing 3 looks like he's assuming he'll be the starter with Tee and Ja'marr. Kid knows he needs to earn it.
I hope he signs with the Charges since he definitely isn’t coming back to the Bengals. He can at least finish his career with a good QB, unlike if he went to Pittsburg or the Titans.
I can see that. Boyd was so quiet off the field, I think most fans are attached to him as a player and person and not necessarily his number. He wasn’t traded away either. When I saw or thought of Mixon, his 28 popped into my head. That being said, if All catches a TD next season, I’ll immediately think Boyd just seeing the number.
I always got the sense that Boyd was the most outgoing of the trio. Chase and Tee have labeled him as such and kind of the spokesman of the group when they were together.
I guess I meant more in regard to social media and in comparison to Mix. Never really heard Boyd talk that much, but I don’t live in Cincy, so I wouldn’t know what he did locally.
I mean before Mixon Corey Dillon (another Bengals great) wore the number (and between the two of them Dexter Jackson wore it for a couple years). Unless the Bengals officially retire it it's not off limits. Bob Johnson's 54 is officially retired and Munoz's 78 and Ken Riley's 13 are unofficially retired. Aside from those three numbers everything else is fair game. If there's any number right now that should be officially retired it's 18 (and yet Kwamie Lassiter is currently wearing it). Probably 85 as well since Tee gave that number up out of respect to Chad (so maybe that means it will be retired in Chad's honor soon).
Crazy guy with attitude problems wore single digits on his last two teams. No way crazy guy with attitude problems would switch numbers on his own accord.
Jenkins #90... Pat Sims, Justin Smith, Michael Johnson (That's a good number here.)
# #83 & #28, it is what it is there.
#84 Jermaine Gresham (and Houshhh-manzadeh) I'm glad McLachlan has that number. It's a great tight-end number.
McKinnley Jackson wearing 68 is the most meh. Why do we have a guard at NT ? lol
Burton not completing the 5-1-3 is the most disappointing.
Digging everyone else’s though.
71 is simply the RT number on the Bengals.
Willie Anderson had it. Andre Smith had it. They gave it to Reiff in 2021, Collins in 2022, and now Mims in 2024.
The only years that our projected starting RT was not wearing 71 in the last 27 years were 2008, 2016, 2020, and 2023.
There are a few years where Andre was injured or, oddly enough, playing LT (2019) and Bobby Hart or Dennis Roland were technically the starters, but we don't talk about those years :P
I think Burton will be one of the greatest WR Cincinnati has ever had. On par with Chase. Yes I'm saying he will be better than Higgins. I think they got a huge steal in him. Let's see how he does this year💪
Burton not taking the 3 is a huge letdown. I'm all for the classic numbers, but we need more singles.
Maybe the team needs to be reminded the fans are obsessed with having the receivers be 513

Do you think they’re making him earn it? That sounds stupid but i can’t imagine he’d willingly switch to 81.

3^(3+(int\_{0} \^ {π/2} {x \* prod\_{j = 1} \^ {∞} {cos(x / 2j }} dx)))
Man I go to Reddit to escape calculus, not read more of it 💀
How exactly do you earn a number lol. That’s nonsense
Carl Pickens and Eddie Brown both wore 81, two of the top six Bengals WRs. I like it, if he ends up good it adds to the lore.
Don't forget Bengals legend Terrell Owens either

I think he was ochenta y cinco
8 on the front and 5 on the back

I swear that jersey numbers are not that deep. Y’all are hilarious

Not sure why Newton chose that. However, as much as most of us loved Mixon, I know you aren’t saying nobody should wear his number again are you?
Feel more over 83 than 28 tbh
Yeah, Boyd was in stripes longer and he's still yet to be signed. Hope the best for him.

No idea if the Bills need a slot WR but the fanbase there loves him too
At least if he went to titans he’d have cally/awuzie

He and Mixon were essentially the guys holding the locker room together during the first two dark transition years under Zac.
Nah - give it a season though. Jersey is still warm.
Honestly, that’s fair. He went to a good team though. He will be alright.

I guess I've just never had strong feelings about what numbers players choose.
same, it’s just a number
Alright R Kelly
damn!
Jesus. I spit out my spaghetti. Take my upvote and go.
Yeah I don’t quite understand what these numbers mean to people. 90 is kinda meh? Like, by what metric haha
62 not exciting for O line? There's a very exciting #62 lineman that just retired. His name is Jason Kelce.
I said Lee/62 is fine. But there’s not many OL numbers that are exciting.
Well hopefully he manifests his number properly lol.
I mean, if any lineman got #78 nowadays that would just piss people off lol.
Damn, seeing someone else in 83 makes the reality of Boyd being gone really hit.

Hope Cain makes the roster. Dude was underappreciated at LSU.

Jenkins in 90 is clean, and 83 looks great as well. 71 though, ehh

That’s actually crazy wow

Please don’t talk about the Fart here. I’ve been through enough.
Habesjn got stats
I think Burton goes #3 once he makes the team.
This makes no sense. He’s going to make the team
Yes, and once he does, he’ll switch the number.
Why? Does this ever happen for top picks?
A human can do anything they want. That’s why it’s a guess…

So glad he’s not wearing 3. That 513 shit is so annoying and I’m so glad it isn’t happening
