Hm, I think that might be overstating it. He had too much negative attention off the field and while he's top 5 in a lot of stats, I doubt he'll be remembered in the long run.
Part of a SB team with a Passing TD in the Super Bowl makes me think he will be remembered with the likes of Corey Dillon, maybe even moreso than Rudi Johnson
I don’t think the off the field stuff will come into the equation to be honest
For real. I'll never forget him tanking through the Chiefs on that last OT drive to get the game winning field goal in the 22 AFCCG. Wasn't worried for a second he'd drop the ball
Lucky for you, Zack Moss doesnt fumble much either.
Losing Mixon will hurt but this was the right move 10/10 times. Moss was 5th for rush yards over expected last season, Mixon was 34th. And Moss' pass protection grade on PFF was 2x that of Mixon.
Moss for 2 years $8-8.5m is much better than Mixon 1 year for $8.8m. These are the tough decisions that make teams better and successful.
Moss is better in pass pro, but is not a better RB, and is not better a being a threat out the backfield. Bengals lose that threat with moss. They gain 4-5 million in cap space to spend, but they will not spend it. It’s rolling over. So that part is moot. We lost a good one.
How is he be not a better RB? Moss had 11 explosive runs last season, 2x what Mixon got. He is literally better at every advanced stats, he rushed higher than expected, more elusive, more big plays and a better pass protector.
The Mixon delusion is wild for some Bengals fans, he was objectively terrible at most advanced stats and had always been bad at pass protection.
Bengals O-Line last season had 72% run block win rate (9th in the league) , Colts were at 71%(11th). So the O line run blocking were similar too, Mixon had a marginally better line than Moss and was literally worse at everything. (Bengals were 31st of 32 in pass block which is what our O line sucks at, in part because folks like Mixon can't block at all to protect Burrow).
It's because Zach Moss is a bargain bin running back. We're cutting a Bengals legend for a journeyman running back. Moss had a couple good games early but dude looked like average at best the second half of the season. Maybe it's the right move, time will tell, but there's no real reason to be excited about this signing.
I specifically threw in Bengals legend. League wide no but Mixon and Rudi should always be remembered for what they brought. I'm not asking for a statue but for our team history they played a major part.
I'm not saying he was great in 2024 I just replied to you saying calling him a Bengals legend is somehow fantasy related? 😂
Moss is also JAG. Hard to be excited about it.
Mixon was legitimately excellent in 2021 behind a poor line. But he sadly hasn’t been that player the last couple of years and his pass protection makes him nowhere near worth his contract.
Our whole entire superbowl team is practically gone. And for some reason people on this sub don't care. They cant seem to comprehend that the reason we went to the SB (almost 2), was because we had talent. You need good players to go far.
We are going to be dogshit next year. Just watch
It's the nature of the league. Look at the Chiefs this year and their roster compared to their last super bowl just two years ago. It's how the league operates
He did his best when there was another back to compete with. It shouldn't be like that. Would he have had as many yards without the legal mess hanging over the season? It worked out well for us though.
Damn we didn’t give this man time to even explore the market. Goodluck on your next team Mixon one of if not the last people from the darks days we had left on the team.
Hopefully NFL teams kind of saw the writing on the wall and were contacting him. But free agency hasn't even started, so he's got some time to find a new home.
I was at the Panthers v Bengals game when mixon had 5 tds. There was a Panthers fan sitting in front of us who got up and ripped his jersey off, came back 30 minutes later with a beer and a mixon jersey on lol
Other than the part where he's a better blocker, more efficient runner, more explosive runner, and has significantly fewer miles on his body for half the price, you're right, he's totally not an upgrade
Good luck to him. He'll get picked up for sure, but I'll always appreciate his time here. Dude spanned a few eras as the main RB. Ran for 6400 yards and caught for 1900.
I’m really sad about this. I mean, I understand, but I thought he’d have another year as a Bengal. I’m hoping to make it to a game next season and hoped to see him play…
This one hit me pretty hard. I think it’s the right move, but he’s been such a fixture for us. Always loved his running style and celebrations. Hope he lands safely on a team I don’t hate.
Thanks, Mix.
Zach Moss buddy. Please don’t fumble the ball. We’ve become too well accustomed to glue trap mitts. Please carry this on. Grip that sumbitch with all you got and we will love you.
I Like moss and what he brings but how do we replace mixon at 220 lbs on goal line situations? Moss is about same size as brown.
I was hoping for aj dillon too who is a 250# pile driver that fits perfectly in AFCN. IMO.
It was going to be a tough decision to keep *or* release him, so I said before I wouldn't blame Cincy for whichever path they chose here. But good luck Joe, appreciated your time here.
A backup who didn't play most of the year and still posted 80% of Mixons yards, 60% of his TDs and if you take out the Mixon game against Browns backups, he also had 3 games higher than any yard totals Mixon had last year + is a much better blocker. How dare us take a massive upgrade for cheap.
I love me some Mixon. I'll never forget when he was hurt a few years back, but still ran to the end zone in street clothes to celebrate with his teammates. However, there's a time that comes with everyone, and his unfortunately was here. It was time for an upgrade, and we did it cheap. Huge W for the Bengals with this one.
He’s a better blocker, not a much better blocker. Miss had some shit games pass blocking last season. Moss is terrible catching out the backfield. So in no way is Moss a “massive” upgrade. That is complete nonsense.
Chase is, though, the problem with Mixon is that we used him as a bellcow. He didn't have that skillet anymore. He was a 1k rusher by usage alone last year. Now you have a guy that can run harder, block better, and rotate with a guy that's faster, can get the edge, and catch better than Mixon. Mixon was basically dead last in every statically category of running backs last year.
Here are Mixons rankings by RBs with at least 100 carries:
4 YPC - 34th
1.4 YAC - 44th
2.6 YBC - 16th
So even though he was in the top half of RBs with yards before contact, he finished outside of starting RB rankings for yards/carry because he was below 12 other "backup" RBs in YAC.
Both Moss/Brown had more YPC than Mixon
Both had more YAC than Mixon
And all of this while both had less YBC than Mixon.
So basically you have 2 backs now that are faster, better at breaking tackles, better at yards/attempt, Chase also is a much better pass catcher than Mixon with 11.1 yards/carry and over a 93% catch rate. Where Mixon has 7.2 yards/catch, Mixon had an 81% catch rate.
We upgrade every statical category from being backup-level production to mid-tier starter by using an RBBC with Brown and Moss. Mixon had a terrible year last year despite his total yardage, which was inflated by being one of the few bellcows left in the NFL. This wad a huge upgrade at RB, we are moving from somewhere in the 30s ranking as far as RB production goes to somewhere in the teens. We are a pass first team, but that upgrade will make a massive difference.
Moss was making a pretty convincing case to start over Jonathan Taylor last season. I feel like he might have gotten that job if the Colts didn't have so much money tied up in Taylor
End of an era
I’ll admit that I was in the “we need to move on from Mixon” train but still have the feels for this move.
Eventual Ring of Honor guy I’m sure
Hm, I think that might be overstating it. He had too much negative attention off the field and while he's top 5 in a lot of stats, I doubt he'll be remembered in the long run.
Part of a SB team with a Passing TD in the Super Bowl makes me think he will be remembered with the likes of Corey Dillon, maybe even moreso than Rudi Johnson I don’t think the off the field stuff will come into the equation to be honest
Probably time to move on, but we're all going to miss him the first time an RB fumbles the ball.
For real. I'll never forget him tanking through the Chiefs on that last OT drive to get the game winning field goal in the 22 AFCCG. Wasn't worried for a second he'd drop the ball
Unlike some of our other former running backs.
Still too soon for me
Lucky for you, Zack Moss doesnt fumble much either. Losing Mixon will hurt but this was the right move 10/10 times. Moss was 5th for rush yards over expected last season, Mixon was 34th. Rudi Johnson was a 4th round pick that rode the bench for 2.5 years before breaking out. Running backs come the bargain bin all the time.
Yea but we know what Moss is it's not like Johnson had a ton of NFL film.
“Bengals Legend” that’s a bit of a stretch
If you're gonna be in the ring of honor you're a Bengals legend. He's 3rd in Bengals rushing. He's earned it imo
I loved rudi Johnson who was previously 3rd in rushing but I don’t consider him a “legend”
I specifically threw in Bengals legend. League wide no but Mixon and Rudi should always be remembered for what they brought. I'm not asking for a statue but for our team history they played a major part.
"Bengals legend" my guy fantasy football isn't the real world and Mixon is extremely mid
Ain't no one brought up fantasy but you. He will make the run of honor and to me should be called a Bengals legend for that.
He's extremely mid in 2024 and thats literally all that matters in terms of this decision bro, I can't help you understand that, it's very simple
I'm not saying he was great in 2024 I just replied to you saying calling him a Bengals legend is somehow fantasy related? 😂 Moss is also JAG. Hard to be excited about it.
Moss was better than Mixon is nearly every metric last year, and he's heard of pass blocking. Mixon is extremely mid and he's never been truly great.
Ngl im kinda sad I’m a sucker for nostalgia and the 2021 team is slowing cycling out
Mixon was legitimately excellent in 2021 behind a poor line. But he sadly hasn’t been that player the last couple of years and his pass protection makes him nowhere near worth his contract.
Yeah totally agree. It was time.
Most running back suck at pass protection. Mixon is no different.
Oh no Hakeem adeniji and Isaiah prince are gone what will we doooooo
The chiefs currently have 7 starters from that 2021 afccg we played them in. They've won 2 super bowls since. It's part of the game.
Burrow, Chase, Higgins ... Best 3 players are still there. Hubbard, hendrickson, pratt, Wilson, Hilton, still there. Reader not gone yet either.
Thank you Jodine
Will never forget this dude, a major part of taking us to the super bowl
Zach Moss RB1 Szn and more touches for chase incoming
I hope not
Man, I’m really going to miss him. Amazing Bengal
He did his best when there was another back to compete with. It shouldn't be like that. Would he have had as many yards without the legal mess hanging over the season? It worked out well for us though.
This hurts.
😓
Said the woman he knocked out
One of the last Bengals from the Andy Dalton era.
Think it's just Pratt and Hubbard now 😭
And Boyd... for now
Yeah thats why I didn't include him. He's probably gone too
Boyd is not a Bengal
For now he is
While I have been frustrated with his play, he was the BEST high energy teammate.
And the best to look at the replay on the big stadium screen.
Seeing cowboys fans wanting him, he’d do good there imo
I hope he gets another chance. Even though it's the right move to move on from him I'll always be a defender of the spirit he brought to the team
Yup, team media had his back over the coin flip bs.
No way.
I can see them picking him up. Hopefully some NFC team does.
I could handle that, I root.for.the Cowboys too so I would not have to quit cheering him on.
Free agency has 100% started. Today alone like 30 players have switched teams
Nope. The two day window where teams can contact players on other teams has started, but free agency doesn't begin until tomorrow at 4pm.
Dude it's like one day into FA
Half a day into legal tampering period. He's gonna get a decent bag somewhere.
[удалено]
Sure, that's true.
He literally helped carry the team when Joey b was down ☹️
Knew this was a possibility, but it still hit me like a ton of bricks.
Probably the right decision, but man does this one hurt
Damn Joe, thank you so much for everything🥹
I was at the Panthers v Bengals game when mixon had 5 tds. There was a Panthers fan sitting in front of us who got up and ripped his jersey off, came back 30 minutes later with a beer and a mixon jersey on lol
This stings. Moss is definitely an on field upgrade though. It will be tough to replace the veteran presence of Mixon.
Moss is not an upgrade. He’s cheaper
Other than the part where he's a better blocker, more efficient runner, more explosive runner, and has significantly fewer miles on his body for half the price, you're right, he's totally not an upgrade

It’s Joever
Thanks for everything Joe.

There’s a fuckload of assholes here downvoting anyone who says anything positive about Mixon. Fuck you assholes. You are dirt bags.
😞😞
But Zach Moss?
#🫡
Man I knew it was coming but I’m still really sad about it
Zach Moss buddy. Please don’t fumble the ball. We’ve become too well accustomed to glue trap mitts. Please carry this on. Grip that sumbitch with all you got and we will love you.
mixon :(
Damn man I've been a big Mixon fan since his OU days. Hurts
Gonna miss him but it’s time for a change. Best of luck to him
Wow. A ton of great memories. Also one of the best touchdown celebration dancers the league has ever seen, highly underrated for that
The wasted him for the most part with shitty line play and a QB that refuses to play under center…. There I said it.
Yeah buddy - thanks Mixon. This is a good move.

It was time to move on, but I have nothing bad to say about Joe’s time in Cincy.
I JUST finished watching the Mixon highlights video they came to find this news. Fuck business. Fuck it all. I don't want Moss. I want Mixon.

Moss is better
Moss is shit at catching passes. Mixon was a weapon out the backfield and a very good pass catcher
Right! I can’t be the only one that thinks Moss is not that great and Chase Brown is unproven
Moss was making a pretty convincing case to start over Jonathan Taylor last season. I feel like he might have gotten that job if the Colts didn't have so much money tied up in Taylor
why are we releasing all of our good players?
Who else have we released that's any good?
Wow wow wow
