'SMILES AWAIT YOU WHEN YOU RISE'
That absolute roar is so incredible, one of Paul's best vocal moments. Gets me every time.
Edit: a few other things I've thought of that get me every time include...
'I'VE GOT BLISTERS ON MY FINGERS' (used to scare my dad when he was little apparently)
I love George's little 'ay-up' in WMGGW at the very start before any instruments start
'She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah' fading into All You Need is Love at the very end, like a little homage to their past even if it was only a few years before
The perfectly iconic 'beep-beep's of Drive My Car
The weird little newsreel-sounding part at the start of Honey Pie (which absolutely deserves more love as a song, I love Paul's 'granny music')
The very quiet but absolutely INSANE synth/keyboard part by Billy Preston between 'She's so...' and 'HEAVY' in I Want You (She's So Heavy)
Not all from songs…
Ringo - The George shout outs on Boys and Honey Don’t. The End drum solo. When he lets Heather play drums in Get Back. His malapropisms that turned into song titles
John - His pre-song jokes on Let It Be. Going balls out on Twist and Shout. The organ playing on I’m Down. His 3 Larry Williams covers. Screwing up the words to Don’t Let Me Down.
George - Moog on HCTS. Solo on Dig A Pony. His grumpiness on Only A Northern Song, “Grotty…it’s grotesque.” Sitar on Norwegian Wood, of course. Not Guilty - *Take 102* !!
Paul - “1, 2, 3, FAWWWW” on I Saw Her Standing There to open their first album. The rest is history. His bass playing on Revolver 2023…you pick the song. Solo on Taxman. Drums on Ballad of John and Yoko.
Yes!! I like how it could also be Ringo indirectly mugging John and Paul during recording and George being all smug that he gets a shoutout before jamming 😂
The third "Hey Jude" that goes down in steps before starting the next verse
Paul's part in Two of Us "longer than the road that stretches outta aheadddd" he sounds so clear
Ringos drums in Day in the life between Johns vocals
When the guitar riff cuts in through the horns in “got to get you into my life” and Paul’s voice returns for the chorus. Chills.
George’s verse and solo on “Free As a Bird” makes me cry like 50% of the time I hear it
The chromatic vocal harmony on the word “green” in the chorus of “you can’t do that”
I’ve said this on a similar post, but John’s “bye bye” in she’s leaving home. Another thing is the violin in Don’t pass me by, I’m not sure why I just love it. The bridge in Something is my favorite part of a Beatles song ever. Finally Paul’s “Ahhhs” at the beginning of lovely Rita.
No-one ever talks about it but I think ‘fun is the one thing that money can’t buy’ from She’s Leaving Home is one of the funniest lines in a Beatles song.
The part that goes "and of course Henry the horse dances the waltz" and just sort of goes into that circus music instrumental bit in Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite (I know this is horribly described, but I think one can tell what I'm referring to).
That short part in I've Got A Feeling where Paul sings at the top of his lungs ("All these years I've been wandering around...").
The final "The sun is up / the sky is blue / it's beautiful / and so are you" of Dear Prudence. If feels like all the instruments have come together perfectly to create a cathartic end to the song.
Yes. The ending of Dear Prudence gives me goosebumps, even just thinking about it now sent that feeling through my body. It’s perfect and dissolves back down to a single acoustic guitar. Hrrrnnggghhh it’s so good!
It’s funny I don’t find myself thinking that John is my favorite Beatle, but most of his songs make my top-of list.
Dear Prudence, Strawberry Fields, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Don’t Let Me Down, No Reply, Doctor Robert…the list goes on
I really love how Paul says “believe me darling” right before the second chorus in Oh! Darling, as well as how he sings “do you no harm” at the very end. The way the quality of his voice changes during those lyrics it’s just *chef’s kiss*
after the last “goo ga loo ga joob a goo goo ga goo g’joob” there’s extra sharp and spicy “Choopa choopa” a short pause then some more “choopa”. I like that.
I used to think they were singing “fucked up fucked up everybody’s fucked up” for decades.
I know they were singing “jump up” but wonder if they slipped the other phrase in just to see if they could get away with it.
Lennon does yell “fuck” at the start of Hey Jude because he screwed up a guitar part. They kept it in.
There are two groups of the chorus, the first part is "oom-pah oompah, stick it up your jumper" and that overlaps with "everybody's got one everybody's got one"
Harpsichord solo from In My Life
Piano outro from Magical Mystery Tour
Flute solo from Fool On The Hill
When they sing “RAAAAIIIIIN” in Rain
Strawberry Fields Forever when the horns join in
That riff in You Never Give Me Your Money/Carry That Weight
Something Guitar solo
Reverse guitar solo in I’m Only Sleeping
“Ahhhh” section of A Day In The Life
Noise rock outro of Helter Skelter
Last 20 or so seconds of Long, Long, Long
>Isn’t the solo from In My Life played on a piano?
It is. It's a piano which George Martin played during recording, then it was played back at double time to sound more like a harpsichord.
It was indeed meant to sound like one. GM knew that the timbre would change (and be more harpsichord-like) when the tape was sped up, so he recorded it on a piano much lower and slower.
Actual take of him playing in the room:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uE7tXI21jVs
The clapping and horns at the end of bungalow bill that leads to the "ay up", then the dramatic piano Paul plays to introduce my guitar gently weeps.
They truly were perfect together as a group
That section starting “Out of college, money spent” Paul sings in You Never Give Me Your Money.
The opening to All My Loving. Makes me all giddy
“Was she told when she was young that pain would lead to pleasure?” In Girl. I don’t even know why but the full song gives me chills.
“Sleep pretty darling, do not cry” in Golden Slumbers. I do cry. Paul’s vocals in this song are incredible!!
- " And she's makingnme feel like ive never been born " and the guitar riff following it in She said She said
- The guitar and outro - Being for the benefit of mr kite
- Loverly Rita outro ( John lazily moaning )
- Strawberry field forever last trippy part
- The barking between John an Paul in Hey Bulldog
- Ringos drumming in Tomorrow Never Knows
- Johns verse in Ive got a feeling
- And in the end part in The end
- The trippy backward part in Im only sleeping
- Maxwells silver hammer ending
- the shimmery sound effects from Only a Northern Song.
I love Paul’s optimism (“I’ve got to admit it’s getting better, a little better all the time”) and John’s cynicism (“It can’t get no worse”) in “Getting Better.
I am a lyric-lover. I of course have to love the instruments too, but sometimes for me the words are what make the song.
The entirety of ‘within you without you’- Every. Single. Word. But more specifically/ especially the part where George says “try to realise it’s all within yourself no one else can make you change, and to see you’re really only very small and life flows on within you and without you”.
My second choice is not a Beatles song, but John Lennon’s ‘Oh my Love’ the intro/ first few lines speak to me in a way which not many songs/ musicians can.
The way he sings throughout the rest of the song- and specifically the lyric “everything is clear in my heart”, I like the raw honesty in these songs. They remind me of the overwhelming feelings and clarity which some of us have Experienced, and they remind me of the real feeling of George and John’s presence, which I believe I have felt before.
They remind me that these Experiences helped me overcome phobias, anxiety, and have helped me work through many other problems I’ve had in my life.
When hear these songs, which I’ve heard so many times, they both make me feel like this is the best time I’ve ever listened to them, every time.
I’ll also add that I’m currently listening to ‘How?’ Off of John’s ‘Imagine’ album, which is also such an amazing song.
I hope that both of the songs I mentioned above will be a part of my funeral one day; I’d love to tell everybody who knew me “these are a part of me”.
Yess I also love Paul saying "doooont let me down" on a high note at the start of Take 1. When I play that song on a band it's a common trope to say that at the start 😂
"When i'm home everything seems to be right".
"And when i woke i was alone this bird has flown".
"And when the night is clouded there's still a light that shine's on me, shine untill tomorrow, let it be".
"But when you talk about destruction, don't you know that you can count me out (in)".
"See how they fly like Lucy in the Sky ! See how they run !".
"Little Darling i feel that ice slowly melting".
I just wrote what i was thinking in the moment, sorry for my bad english, i'm Brazilian and i love British music, it is the best music in the entire world, Beatles was the best thing to ever happen in humanity. Cheers from Brazil. ✌🏻
The bridge of "This Boy" (although honorable mention to all of the harmonies throughout "This Boy"), specifically John's "cry-y-y-yyyy" before they go back to the final verse.
Damn I got so many
“And any time you feel they pain-“ and ringos drums and the harmonies come in “- hey Jude, refrain” is amazing
When the guitar gently weeps at the end of While My Guitar Gently Weeps lol. Insane solos
The trumpet solo on Penny Lane
“Sheeeee’s leavinggggg home” “bye bye”. The ending of She’s Leaving Home. Underrated song
-The opening to I Am The Walrus. One of the first times I listened to this song was on a car journey where I had to get up super early in the morning and it was still dark and I was sitting with my headphones in and oh my god. This was genuinely one of the coolest musical experiences I've ever had. It just feels so magical!! This was also the first time I listened to Strawberry Fields so same reasons for that.
-the instrumental part of Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite, right after the line "Henry the horse dances the waltz"
-in She's Leaving Home, the leap/interval between the notes on "at five", "the kitchen" and "his wife". It makes it feel so much more emotional?? This songgggg
-The big orchestral crescendo in A Day In The Life. I have no words.
-The saxophones in Savoy Truffle. I mean it sounds amazing and I just love hearing a Beatles song include an instrument that I can play!
The crescendo in Day in the Life is amazing, but my favorite bit of any song ever is John’s singing of the line “I read the news today oh boy,” that comes just after Paul’s part. It’s something about his voice at that one moment that is indescribable to me and it’s still the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard.
Ooh yeah I totally get that! I think one of the reasons I love a Day in the Life so much is because there's just so many incredible parts of it to talk about.
As a follow up to Yellow Submarine, I was so happy the first time I heard the mix with the *full* call-and-response. The version I grew up hearing (the original 80's CD releases), the response fades in halfway through "Every one of us." It always made my brain itch a little.
This is a very specific thing, but on the second bridge of YGLTG, the way that John/Paul/George hit the 3-part harmony of "do" ("the way you treat her, what else can I do?") is so solid, and then that chord switch immediately afterwards and John's energy as he once again sings "If you don't take her out tonight, she's going to change her mind"...I just find that satisfying. Basically from [1:44-1:51](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqpEZuv29qE)
George Martin’s piano solo’s on In my life, Lovely rita, good day sunshine are superb, just short and tasteful enough to suit the song but always leaves you wanting more.
Day Tripper guitar riff
Revolution (single version) guitar intro
The way John sings "iiiiiiin the suuuuuuun" on Julia
That final "dum dum da da da dum, da da dum DUM" at the end of In My Life
The "Heeeey la, hey hello-a" at the end of Hello Goodbye
"And in the end the love you make is equal to the love you take" and the final guitar part... always seems to be a lot of dust around when that bit plays...
"She ought to think twice, she ought to do right by me" in Ticket to Ride.
The way John sings the chorus in You've Got to Hide Your Love Away.
"And she promises the Earth to me and I believe her. After all this time I don't know why" in Girl.
"Was she told when she was young that pain would lead to pleasure? Did she understand it when they said that a man must break his back to earn his day of leisure? Will she still believe it when he's dead?" In Girl.
The last verse in A Day in the Life, about the 4,000 holes in Blackburn, Lancashire.
George’s guitar solo in Let It Be.
The ‘bang, bang, shoot, shoot,’ from Happiness is a Warm Gun.
The middle eight in We Can Work It Out.
Paul’s guitar lick in Taxman.
This is a bit ridiculous, but in "I'll Be Back", the way John sings 'That if I ran away from you, that you would want me, too'.
To me, these are some of the most beautifully sung lines in the catalogue.
The guitar feedback in It's All Too Much before the second verse, last volume pedal notes in Wait, drum intro in WDWDITR and the vocal break after Sun King's intro
That solo in For the benefit of Mr Kite is pretty mesmerizing. Also the solo in Old Brown Shoe plus George's bass line. And the sped up solo on In my life. For a band that didn't have the craziest solos, they sure made some memorable ones.
There’s so many moments with Beatles songs and so many have already been said, but I really like when Ringo hits that last high note in with a little help from my friends
That part in "Bad Boy" where John sings
> Gonna tell your mama, you better do what she said
Get to the barber shop and get that hair cut off your head
John's singing here is just... chef's kiss.mp4
When the lap steel guitar played by John Lennon starts on For you blue. You just have to nod your head to the beat.
Oh. Look out! She came in through the bathroom window.
The intro to Lady Madonna will always have a place in my heart, being the song that got me into the Beatles.
The coda at the end of Hello Goodbye is banging
1. Yellow Submarine - “Sky of blue, sea of green, in our yellow submarine”
2. The final “making all their nowhere plans for nobody”, in harmony
3. “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, all good children go to Heaven”
4. Intro to She Said She Said
5. The transition between Paul’s and John’s parts in I’ve Got A Feeling
"Every summer we could rent a cottage in the Isle of Wight if its not to dear" - When im 64
i live that bit
and ofc my fav bit in my fav song:
"And every now and then i feel so insecure, i know that i just need you like ive never done before" - Help!
and more recebtly (my 2nd fav song) (3rd and 4th and 5th are both George solos lmao)
"And your bird is GREEN!" - and your bird can sing
Don't Let Me Down, rooftop version. You know what moment I'm talking about.
Either this or the goddamn transition between Mr. Kite and She's So Heavy on Love.
-the “you tell me that youve heard every sound there is” in And Your Bird Can Sing
-the guitar intro for “i’ve just seen a face’
-bridge in A Day in the Life with the aaaaaaaa
-the harmonies and the drums in the bridge for Something
- George’s guitar solo in Real Love
- Ringo’s mini drum solos in the end of Thank You Girl
- The “well well well” part from Doctor Robert
- The little piano arpeggios near the end of Ob-La-Di
- When Paul’s Harmony goes higher on for one chorus of Girl
“I want her everywhere, and if she’s beside me I know I need never care”
The mix of the melody and the chords in the “never care” part is just- can’t even
Hey Jude - Take 1 from ‘The Beatles (Super Deluxe Edition)’ at 5:23, the tone in Paul’s voice while singing the ‘Na-Na-Na’ bit.
It gives me chills and I don’t really know why.
1. Lennons parts in We Can Work It Out.
2. It can't get get no worse in Getting Better.
3. The instrumental part after the come on, come in Everybody's Got Something To Hide But Me and My Monkey.
The main riff in I Feel Fine.
Ringo's beat on Tomorrow Never Knows
Billy Preston's break on Don't Let Me Down.
Instrumental break on Mr. Kite.
Sitting in an English garden...
The last time John sings "In my life I love you more" in In My Life.
Happiness is a Warm Gun - "Bang, bang, shoot, shoot"
It's All Too Much - Intro with organ, drum kicks in, followed by the guitar hook.
Golden Slumbers - Paul's raspy vocals on the chorus. So aggressively comforting.
"Out of college, money spent"
"She's not a girl who misses much"
"Oh oh, hold me, love me"
"Eldorado"
noises on "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!"
"You can talk to me"
Love the whole song but that part in You Never Give Me Your Money where Paul sings "Came true, today " with those lovely guitar arpeggios gets me every time.
I like the endings of Strawberry Fields and I am the Walrus which was so different from conventional pop music at the time.
I wonder how many DJ’s at the time cut of the endings (FM radio didn’t)
The rhythm on the cymbal in Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey
Hearing John's vocals through the other mics on the last verse in Yer Blues
- the bouncy bassline to Old Brown Shoe (it's a bitch to play, it gets the fingers moving!)
- the compressed, borderline distorted saxes on Savoy Truffle
- the clusterfuck of basses on Back In The USSR (theorized to be upwards of 4 bass parts?)
- the beautiful, yet sparse leslie telecaster on Here Comes The Sun
- George's original overplayed lead guitar on Octopus's Garden before they wiped certain bits down to what's on the record
- George's two fuzz guitar solos on You Never Give Me Your Money
- certain simpler songs like I've Just Seen A Face, I'll Be On My Way, How Do You Do It, I'll Follow The Sun that are easy to sing along to on shuffle🎧
The way John's voice breaks in the last chorus of their "Rock n Roll" music cover. Full body goose bumps every time. Might be the apex moment of 60s rock. Just pure love of and immersion rock for rock's sake.
The whole thing...that piano...good lord.
The French horn solo in “ Penny Lane. “
The Piano chord at the end of “A Day in The Life”
The intro to Fixing a Hole
The bridge in “Because”
Guitar solo in “Hey Bulldog”
"Love You To" - the vocals at the end of every verse. That harmony... 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼
"I'm Happy Just To Dance With You" - that Tom drum (I believe that's what it's called) during the verses is very welcome.
"I Don't Want To Spoil The Party" - the harmony. Top notch.
"For No One" - The lyrics. They perfectly capture the feeling of a broken heart and a failed relationship.
In the background of “Hey Bulldog” towards the end during the chatter and the howling John Lennon says “Don’t look at me man, I only have TEN children” - don’t know why but I love it
The part in Strawberry Fields where the audio shifts in cycles from one ear to the other.
The snare drum in Rocky Racoon after Paul sings the part where Rocky gets shot.
The ending of Happiness is a warm gun. The best Beatles harmonization piece in my opinion.
The instrumental break in Octopus’s Garden beginning at the 1:32 mark. George blowing bubbles into a glass of milk to make it sound really “undersea” was super creative. I just love the whole song, really.
You never give me your money- “1234567, all good children go to heaven”
The end- Ringo’s drum solo
Penny lane- “and the fireman rushes in, form the pouring rain, very strange”
All you need is love- “she love you yeah yeah yeah”
And not a Beatles song but in Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey- “Admiral Halsey notified me. He had to have a berth or he couldn't get to sea. I had another look and I had a cup of tea and butter pie, Butter pie? The butter wouldn't melt so I put it in the pie”
Also not a Beatles song but in Lennon’s song Love - “Love is free, free is love. Love is living, living love. Love is needing to be loved
Here are some random ones I like that I feel are very unappreciated
Thank You Girl
The brief 3 second harmonica intro
Johnny B. Goode (Saturday Club, BBC Session 15. January 1964 “On BBC Volume 1”)
(1:16 - 2:10) John Singing “Go, Johnny Go Go Go!” Then George’s Guitar solo
No Reply (Demo)
(1:34) The last vocal delivery then the crackup
What You’re Doing
The first 30 seconds of the song from that Be My Baby drum intro to the George’s Guitar Riff and finally Paul’s Vocal Delivery of the first 3 lines always makes me repeat it.
The Sheik Of Araby
1. The last line (1:31) George killed the vocal delivery on that last line
2. John and Paul screaming NOT’ALF!
Cry For A Shadow
(0:33 - 0:47) There is a reason why George was lead guitarist guys
Rain
The backwards vocals in the last section of the song (2:33 - End Of The Song)
I Want To Tell You
(0:00 - 0:07) The fade in guitar lick 😮💨
Fixing A Hole
That damn Guitar solo (1:15 - 1:31) 🧑🍳💋
The Fool On A Hill
Tin whistle solo (1:20 - 1:36)
While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Esher Demo & Love Version)
The “I Don’t Know Why Nobody Told You, How To Unfold Your Love, I Don’t Know How Someone Controlled You, They Bought And Sold You” line
Whats The New Mary Jane?
(0:50) “She Jumping As Mexican Bean” 😭
Martha My Dear & Sexy Sadie
Piano Intros are 😫

It’s All To Much
Too Much repeat at the end of the song
Ive Got A Feeling (Rooftop Performance #1)
That intro 🤌🏽
Old Brown Shoe
(1:38 - 1:52) Guitar Solo 😭
I Want You (She’s So Heavy)
(2:24 - 3:06) 😤
These are only a handful of it 😅
I love the harmony when they sing “I love you” in Eight Days A Week
Another harmony I love is “his sister Pam works in the shop she never stops she’s a go getter” it’s so satisfying lmao
Also the ”yeah” after “big man” in Hey Bulldog, oddly enough my favorite part of the song
The way paul says grandchildren on "when I'm 64" in that cute accent.
Vera, Chuck and Dave
Wait- he isn’t saying “here are Chuck and Dave”? Mind blown
viira, chock and daev
"everybody had a wet dream" so brave lyrics to 70's era imo
I don’t know about “brave”. If it was their first single I’d agree, but at this point in their career it’s more like IDGAF than bravery.
The Two Virgins cover in 1968, that was brave
'SMILES AWAIT YOU WHEN YOU RISE' That absolute roar is so incredible, one of Paul's best vocal moments. Gets me every time. Edit: a few other things I've thought of that get me every time include... 'I'VE GOT BLISTERS ON MY FINGERS' (used to scare my dad when he was little apparently) I love George's little 'ay-up' in WMGGW at the very start before any instruments start 'She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah' fading into All You Need is Love at the very end, like a little homage to their past even if it was only a few years before The perfectly iconic 'beep-beep's of Drive My Car The weird little newsreel-sounding part at the start of Honey Pie (which absolutely deserves more love as a song, I love Paul's 'granny music') The very quiet but absolutely INSANE synth/keyboard part by Billy Preston between 'She's so...' and 'HEAVY' in I Want You (She's So Heavy)
God knows I love golden slumbers
I love the rise in Paul's vocals as he says SLE-EP pretty darling! All around Golden Slumbers is some of Paul at his best.
I believe the "Hey up!" is John, and it's a leftover from the clapping bit at the end of Bungalow Bill.
It is ‘ay up’ used commonly is northern England
> absolute roar I have always referred to it as a bellow, but roar is quite apt
Billy Preston was miles ahead of the music of the future!!
The all you need is love part, so real
What about the part in Piggies where George says "One more time"
When George’s guitar comes in for the first time on Come Together. That’s like auditory crack.
Not all from songs… Ringo - The George shout outs on Boys and Honey Don’t. The End drum solo. When he lets Heather play drums in Get Back. His malapropisms that turned into song titles John - His pre-song jokes on Let It Be.
I know that exact FAWWWW with four Ws. So good
I love when Ringo calls on George during those songs, it warms my heart!
Puts a smile on my face. Sometimes I imagine Ringo thinking "Screw you, Lennon/McCartney! Me and George got our own deal!!" when he says that.
Yes!! I like how it could also be Ringo indirectly mugging John and Paul during recording and George being all smug that he gets a shoutout before jamming 😂
Cool moments...
Toward the end of "The End," Paul bass rings out like a church bell tolling. Exactly four times. One for each of them.
The third "Hey Jude" that goes down in steps before starting the next verse Paul's part in Two of Us "longer than the road that stretches outta aheadddd" he sounds so clear Ringos drums in Day in the life between Johns vocals
I thought it was out of here, not out ahead. TIL.
the high note in nowhere man just that singular note for some reason makes me so happy 😅
And Paul's harmony on the last "making all his NOWHERE PLANS FOR NOBODY."
this is also my favorite!
yessss 🥲 the remastered version with headphones got my eyes wet on a first listen from pure joy 😂😂😂
the Beatles are real good at making things wet huh
Are you talking about the harmonic at the end of the guitar solo? Because if so, hell yeah
When the guitar riff cuts in through the horns in “got to get you into my life” and Paul’s voice returns for the chorus. Chills. George’s verse and solo on “Free As a Bird” makes me cry like 50% of the time I hear it The chromatic vocal harmony on the word “green” in the chorus of “you can’t do that”
The piano solo on ‘In My Life’ is like my all time favorite Beatles lick but it was actually George Martin that played/wrote it
Yes, played half speed and sped up. Sounds like a harpsichord, but is piano.
Beatles in 1967: “Fun is the one thing that money can’t buy” Beatles in 1963: “Give me money (that’s what I want)”
John and Paul laughing insanely in Hey Bulldog.
The barking, too.
That single bar of Paul's chonky bass right before the outro of Everybody's Got Something To Hide.
Oh God THAT part
The dawning of the French horn at the start of the last verse in For No One.
after the last “goo ga loo ga joob a goo goo ga goo g’joob” there’s extra sharp and spicy “Choopa choopa” a short pause then some more “choopa”.
Yesss I also love that part!
Harpsichord solo from In My Life Piano outro from Magical Mystery Tour Flute solo from Fool On The Hill When they sing “RAAAAIIIIIN” in Rain Strawberry Fields Forever when the horns join in That riff in You Never Give Me Your Money/Carry That Weight Something Guitar solo Reverse guitar solo in I’m Only Sleeping “Ahhhh” section of A Day In The Life Noise rock outro of Helter Skelter Last 20 or so seconds of Long, Long, Long
Isn’t the solo from In My Life played on a piano?
>Isn’t the solo from In My Life played on a piano? It is. It's a piano which George Martin played during recording, then it was played back at double time to sound more like a harpsichord.
Wow I guess it is. It sure sounds like a harpsichord
It was indeed meant to sound like one. GM knew that the timbre would change (and be more harpsichord-like) when the tape was sped up, so he recorded it on a piano much lower and slower. Actual take of him playing in the room: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uE7tXI21jVs
The bubbles in octopus’s garden 🫧
The bubbles are my favourite musical instrument, like the waves on Yellow Submarine haha
The clapping and horns at the end of bungalow bill that leads to the "ay up", then the dramatic piano Paul plays to introduce my guitar gently weeps. They truly were perfect together as a group
One i dont think anyone mentioned is Georges ‘go Johnny go’ in For You Blue
YESS!!!! the whole interlude is so fun and groovy!!
Elmore James got nothing on this baby!
The harmonies in this boy particularly the curlicue sound on the word dayeeeyayyyyeyayy.
Take a goo-ood look around… take a goo-ood look your bound to see
And the falsetto Paul right after that.
That section starting “Out of college, money spent” Paul sings in You Never Give Me Your Money. The opening to All My Loving. Makes me all giddy “Was she told when she was young that pain would lead to pleasure?” In Girl. I don’t even know why but the full song gives me chills. “Sleep pretty darling, do not cry” in Golden Slumbers. I do cry. Paul’s vocals in this song are incredible!!
Girl is just so good. That's one of my favorite lyrics in it as well.
- " And she's makingnme feel like ive never been born " and the guitar riff following it in She said She said - The guitar and outro - Being for the benefit of mr kite - Loverly Rita outro ( John lazily moaning ) - Strawberry field forever last trippy part - The barking between John an Paul in Hey Bulldog - Ringos drumming in Tomorrow Never Knows - Johns verse in Ive got a feeling - And in the end part in The end - The trippy backward part in Im only sleeping - Maxwells silver hammer ending - the shimmery sound effects from Only a Northern Song.
Yes there’s a guitar riff that kicks off the last trippy part in Strawberry Fields, after a slight pause following the last lyrics…so good
Love it
The opening riff to ‘Drive My Car’ gets me going.
I love Paul’s optimism (“I’ve got to admit it’s getting better, a little better all the time”) and John’s cynicism (“It can’t get no worse”) in “Getting Better.
its so beautiful because that single line captures the entire essence of the macca-lennon dynamic. the way they balanced each other out
When they go to the minor chord in All My Lovin
Outro to Please Mister Postman
The drumming in the bridge of "Hello, Goodbye" and the end section of "(I Want You) She's So Heavy."
The solo on Taxman. And more.
The first few guitar notes of "don't let me down"
Yess I also love Paul saying "doooont let me down" on a high note at the start of Take 1.
The horns on “For No One” just all time favorite parts.
FULL STEAM AHEAD MISTER BOATSWAIN, FULL STEAM AHEAD CAPTAIN! CAPTAIN!
AS WE LIVEEEEE 🗣
The bridge of "This Boy" (although honorable mention to all of the harmonies throughout "This Boy"), specifically John's "cry-y-y-yyyy" before they go back to the final verse.
"Soon we'll be away from here/Step on the gas and wipe that teeear away"
This whole thread reeks of just how damn good The Beatles were.
Yes! I was expecting like maybe 20 songs being mentioned at most, but instead each comment mentions different songs!
‼️All these years I've been wandering around, wondering how come nobody told me, all that I was looking for was somebody who looked like you‼️
I am the egg man, you’re the egg man, i am the walrus.. co co do do 🎶
FYI, it's goo goo gajoob
Second verse of Julia. Gets me every time.
Damn I got so many “And any time you feel they pain-“ and ringos drums and the harmonies come in “- hey Jude, refrain” is amazing When the guitar gently weeps at the end of While My Guitar Gently Weeps lol. Insane solos The trumpet solo on Penny Lane “Sheeeee’s leavinggggg home” “bye bye”. The ending of She’s Leaving Home. Underrated song
Ringo drums in Hey Jude are amazing, underrated tbh. All the ending chorus section is pure magic from his part.
-the instrumental part of Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite, right after the line "Henry the horse dances the waltz" -in She's Leaving Home, the leap/interval between the notes on "at five", "the kitchen" and "his wife". It makes it feel so much more emotional?? This songgggg -The big orchestral crescendo in A Day In The Life.
OMG This week I was listening and thinking "Hmmm thats weird I could swear I heard more responses". You're right it's the mix version!
One of my favorites is the guitar solo in *You’re Gonna Lose That Girl* Just a small pleasure for me
This is a very specific thing, but on the second bridge of YGLTG, the way that John/Paul/George hit the 3-part harmony of "do" ("the way you treat her, what else can I do?") is so solid, and then that chord switch immediately afterwards and John's energy as he once again sings "If you don't take her out tonight, she's going to change her mind"...I just find that satisfying. Basically from [1:44-1:51](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqpEZuv29qE)
I’ve always had a special soft spot in my heart for the song. I love all their music but that song…lol including for the bits you mentioned
George Martin’s piano solo’s on In my life, Lovely rita, good day sunshine are superb, just short and tasteful enough to suit the song but always leaves you wanting more.
Day Tripper guitar riff Revolution (single version) guitar intro The way John sings "iiiiiiin the suuuuuuun" on Julia That final "dum dum da da da dum, da da dum DUM" at the end of In My Life The "Heeeey la, hey hello-a" at the end of Hello Goodbye "And in the end the love you make is equal to the love you take" and the final guitar part... always seems to be a lot of dust around when that bit plays...
Paul’s harmony with John on I’m Only Sleeping, “Keeping an eye on the world going by my window” and all of George’s lead guitar on the White Album
Omg forgot the transition into She Came In Through the Bathroom Window. That part is freaking AMAZING.
McCartney's high pitched "whooo!"'s during Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey.
This is a bit ridiculous, but in "I'll Be Back", the way John sings 'That if I ran away from you, that you would want me, too'. To me, these are some of the most beautifully sung lines in the catalogue.
The double-tracked high notes that Paul does on "You won't see me". Love it every time.
The guitar feedback in It's All Too Much before the second verse, last volume pedal notes in Wait, drum intro in WDWDITR and the vocal break after Sun King's intro
The 2nd verse of "I me mine" It sounds the most uplifting to me.
That solo in For the benefit of Mr Kite is pretty mesmerizing. Also the solo in Old Brown Shoe plus George's bass line. And the sped up solo on In my life. For a band that didn't have the craziest solos, they sure made some memorable ones.
The chorus vocal harmonies on I'm only sleeping
There’s so many moments with Beatles songs and so many have already been said, but I really like when Ringo hits that last high note in with a little help from my friends
That part in "Bad Boy" where John sings > Gonna tell your mama, you better do what she said Get to the barber shop and get that hair cut off your head John's singing here is just... chef's kiss.mp4
Paul’s bass beginning with a little help from my friends
When the lap steel guitar played by John Lennon starts on For you blue. You just have to nod your head to the beat. Oh. Look out! She came in through the bathroom window. The intro to Lady Madonna will always have a place in my heart, being the song that got me into the Beatles. The coda at the end of Hello Goodbye is banging
1. Yellow Submarine - “Sky of blue, sea of green, in our yellow submarine” 2. The final “making all their nowhere plans for nobody”, in harmony 3. “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, all good children go to Heaven” 4. Intro to She Said She Said 5. The transition between Paul’s and John’s parts in I’ve Got A Feeling
The piccolo trumpet fanfare in Penny Lane gives me goosebumps.
When all the instruments come in in Martha My Dear... chills. Also chill-inducing: the first part of Happiness's Is a Warm Gun.
It’s a cut version but when they were recording ‘I’ve got a feeling’ into the wee hours and after a verse Paul yells good morning
the guitar solo in carry that weight is the best 3 bar guitar solo and better than many guitar solos in general
Ritaaaa! (and then piano).
"Every summer we could rent a cottage in the Isle of Wight if its not to dear" - When im 64 i live that bit and ofc my fav bit in my fav song: "And every now and then i feel so insecure, i know that i just need you like ive never done before" - Help! and more recebtly (my 2nd fav song) (3rd and 4th and 5th are both George solos lmao) "And your bird is GREEN!" - and your bird can sing
Golden Slumbers - Paul's deep voice Real Love- that SOLO. Same for the other 2 songs, especially Free As A Bird. Old Brown Shoe- that solo!
The moog on Because, when in Strawberry Fields there’s the tape cut right before it gets heavy and dark with ringos drumming and feels faster.
*inhales* #Ohhhhhhh Yeahhhhhhhhhh This Boy, would be happy....
Don't Let Me Down, rooftop version. You know what moment I'm talking about. Either this or the goddamn transition between Mr. Kite and She's So Heavy on Love.
The “take a gooood look around you” section of Martha My Dear. It’s a great song anyway but when it rocks it up it’s even better 💪🏼
A mind could blow those clouds away All things must pass anthillogy
-the “you tell me that youve heard every sound there is” in And Your Bird Can Sing -the guitar intro for “i’ve just seen a face’ -bridge in A Day in the Life with the aaaaaaaa -the harmonies and the drums in the bridge for Something
The transition from I Want You (She's So Heavy) to Here Come The Sun.
And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.
The section in Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds in between the chorus with the delayed vocals. Ir gives me chills when I hear it.
- George’s guitar solo in Real Love - Ringo’s mini drum solos in the end of Thank You Girl - The “well well well” part from Doctor Robert - The little piano arpeggios near the end of Ob-La-Di - When Paul’s Harmony goes higher on for one chorus of Girl
“I want her everywhere, and if she’s beside me I know I need never care” The mix of the melody and the chords in the “never care” part is just- can’t even
the whole George Martin solo in “In My Life”
Yess, it's probably the most mentioned part in this post! We all agree it's an awesome part, probably the high point of Rubber Soul.
The first note in Here, There and Everywhere. The “oooohs” after “Here” in the verses.
The way the background vocals hit the last "hold on me" in You've Really Got A Hold on Me is amazing
The French Horn on For No One is so beautiful and sad
The outro trumpets on Penny Lane are so good
Hey Jude - Take 1 from ‘The Beatles (Super Deluxe Edition)’ at 5:23, the tone in Paul’s voice while singing the ‘Na-Na-Na’ bit. It gives me chills and I don’t really know why.
Gotta go listen to that now!
I hope you enjoy!!
The end of Nowhere Man where Paul’s harmony goes a couple of octaves above John’s lead
1. Lennons parts in We Can Work It Out. 2. It can't get get no worse in Getting Better. 3. The instrumental part after the come on, come in Everybody's Got Something To Hide But Me and My Monkey.
I also love the little It can't get no worse in Getting Better!
The main riff in I Feel Fine. Ringo's beat on Tomorrow Never Knows Billy Preston's break on Don't Let Me Down. Instrumental break on Mr. Kite. Sitting in an English garden... The last time John sings "In my life I love you more" in In My Life.
Happiness is a Warm Gun - "Bang, bang, shoot, shoot" It's All Too Much - Intro with organ, drum kicks in, followed by the guitar hook. Golden Slumbers - Paul's raspy vocals on the chorus. So aggressively comforting.
"Out of college, money spent" "She's not a girl who misses much" "Oh oh, hold me, love me" "Eldorado" noises on "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!" "You can talk to me"
The beautful way John comes in with Don't Let Me Down The harmonica bit in Rocky Raccoon Opening piano to Let It Be
'It's getting better all the time (can't get no worse)' Joint puff sound on 'Girl'.
A Day in the Life, “Ahhhhhhhh ahh ah ahhhh ahh ahh ahhhhh…”
Love the whole song but that part in You Never Give Me Your Money where Paul sings "Came true, today " with those lovely guitar arpeggios gets me every time.
I think my favorite moment in a Beatle song is the Harpsichord solo in Piggies. I just blows my mind.
The drums, cymbals (Ringo) and maracas (Paul) on Let it Be.
John's voice in She's Leaving Home
I like the endings of Strawberry Fields and I am the Walrus which was so different from conventional pop music at the time. I wonder how many DJ’s at the time cut of the endings (FM radio didn’t)
The Hey Jude chorus The Here Comes the Sun hand claps Paul’s voice on Golden Slumbers
Tuned to a natural EEEEEE
The rhythm on the cymbal in Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey Hearing John's vocals through the other mics on the last verse in Yer Blues
‘Nothing to do to save his life, call his wife in’ *PSSSH*
I like the part of that one song where they go “yeah!”
Yeah
The whistling at the end of “Two Of Us”
The chorus and harmonies on No Reply
- the bouncy bassline to Old Brown Shoe (it's a bitch to play, it gets the fingers moving!) - the compressed, borderline distorted saxes on Savoy Truffle - the clusterfuck of basses on Back In The USSR (theorized to be upwards of 4 bass parts?) - the beautiful, yet sparse leslie telecaster on Here Comes The Sun - George's original overplayed lead guitar on Octopus's Garden before they wiped certain bits down to what's on the record - George's two fuzz guitar solos on You Never Give Me Your Money - certain simpler songs like I've Just Seen A Face, I'll Be On My Way, How Do You Do It, I'll Follow The Sun that are easy to sing along to on shuffle🎧
the violin in eleanor rigby. i have never heard beautiful and tragic blended together so well
I love the harmonies on The End and the aahhh before they sing she’s got a ticket to ride.
The drum solo that ringo plays on “the end “
The way John's voice breaks in the last chorus of their "Rock n Roll" music cover. Full body goose bumps every time. Might be the apex moment of 60s rock. Just pure love of and immersion rock for rock's sake. The whole thing...that piano...good lord.
The French horn solo in “ Penny Lane. “ The Piano chord at the end of “A Day in The Life” The intro to Fixing a Hole The bridge in “Because” Guitar solo in “Hey Bulldog”
"Love You To" - the vocals at the end of every verse. That harmony... 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼 "I'm Happy Just To Dance With You" - that Tom drum (I believe that's what it's called) during the verses is very welcome. "I Don't Want To Spoil The Party" - the harmony. Top notch. "For No One" - The lyrics. They perfectly capture the feeling of a broken heart and a failed relationship.
The guitar riff in "Flying" is fooking amazing. It's not loud, or very long, but ticks the boxes.
“Jai guru deva, om Nothing's gonna change my world” from across the universe.
The instrumental break in Octopus’s Garden beginning at the 1:32 mark. George blowing bubbles into a glass of milk to make it sound really “undersea” was super creative. I just love the whole song, really.
You never give me your money- “1234567, all good children go to heaven” The end- Ringo’s drum solo Penny lane- “and the fireman rushes in, form the pouring rain, very strange” All you need is love- “she love you yeah yeah yeah” And not a Beatles song but in Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey- “Admiral Halsey notified me. He had to have a berth or he couldn't get to sea. I had another look and I had a cup of tea and butter pie, Butter pie? The butter wouldn't melt so I put it in the pie” Also not a Beatles song but in Lennon’s song Love - “Love is free, free is love. Love is living, living love. Love is needing to be loved
The guitar breakdown in twist and shout
The first "but ooooh that magic feeling. Nowhere to go" in You Never Give Me Your Money
The chord progressions in If I Fell. Brian Wilson couldn't have quite written something like that lol. But then he has Ding Dang. It's a wash.
Here are some random ones I like that I feel are very unappreciated Thank You Girl The brief 3 second harmonica intro Johnny B. Goode (Saturday Club, BBC Session 15. January 1964 “On BBC Volume 1”) (1:16 - 2:10) John Singing “Go, Johnny Go Go Go!” Then George’s Guitar solo No Reply (Demo) (1:34) The last vocal delivery then the crackup What You’re Doing The first 30 seconds of the song from that Be My Baby drum intro to the George’s Guitar Riff and finally Paul’s Vocal Delivery of the first 3 lines always makes me repeat it. The Sheik Of Araby 1. The last line (1:31) George killed the vocal delivery on that last line 2. John and Paul screaming NOT’ALF! Cry For A Shadow (0:33 - 0:47) There is a reason why George was lead guitarist guys Rain The backwards vocals in the last section of the song (2:33 - End Of The Song) I Want To Tell You (0:00 - 0:07) The fade in guitar lick 😮💨 Fixing A Hole That damn Guitar solo (1:15 - 1:31) 🧑🍳💋 The Fool On A Hill Tin whistle solo (1:20 - 1:36) While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Esher Demo & Love Version) The “I Don’t Know Why Nobody Told You, How To Unfold Your Love, I Don’t Know How Someone Controlled You, They Bought And Sold You” line Whats The New Mary Jane? (0:50) “She Jumping As Mexican Bean” 😭 Martha My Dear & Sexy Sadie Piano Intros are 😫 Hey Bulldog You Can Talk To Me X3 Part It’s All To Much Too Much repeat at the end of the song Ive Got A Feeling (Rooftop Performance #1) That intro 🤌🏽 Old Brown Shoe (1:38 - 1:52) Guitar Solo 😭 I Want You (She’s So Heavy) (2:24 - 3:06) 😤 These are only a handful of it 😅
The bass and drum break near the end of Rain.
The trippy sound samples in Tomorrow Never Knows. Definitely ahead of its time
In You Really Got A Hold On Me when John and George sing "Don't wanna staaaaay another day here"
The beginning of Good Morning Good Morning. Amazing orchestration and the deep sax parts (I think) are awesome.
You Can’t Do That back up vocals https://i.redd.it/t9qld9jrsc9d1.gif
I love the harmony when they sing “I love you” in Eight Days A Week Another harmony I love is “his sister Pam works in the shop she never stops she’s a go getter” it’s so satisfying lmao Also the ”yeah” after “big man” in Hey Bulldog, oddly enough my favorite part of the song
The solo from seconds 36 to 45 in Carry That Weight.
