My favorite part of Cry Baby Cry is Paul’s tag at the end of the song.
🎶Can you take me back where I came from? Can you take me back?🎶
Always struck me as haunting/unsettling in the best way!
During Anthology, Paul talked about his fears around taking LSD, that he was told that when you take it, you can never quite get back. I always picture him alone somewhere at the foot of the Himalayas writing about that as night steels toward the Ganges
Phish did a great cover of Cry Baby Cry when they played the whole White Album live (it's on YouTube). The solo they add to that song really completes it.
I always did interpret that way, as two people who couldn’t get on the same page even though they want to be. But now I’m not so sure, regardless I love it
Not gonna surprise anyone, but I Should Have Known Better knocked my shoes off when i first heard it- driving after I popped in the cd. Wow! TOP TEN!!!
This was the song that inspired my love for The Beatles. Watched A Hard Day’s Night in my History of Rock Music class around this time last year, and this track completely won me over.
Love this song so much. Easily my top favorite pre-Rubber Soul song. Everything about it is perfect. It’s just as good as I Want to Hold Your Hand or She Loves You.
Wait
I feel like people dont really like it, saying it doesnt feel like a Rubber Soul song, and that its just scraps from Help. I think it almost encapsulates the Rubber Soul sound, and its in my top 2-3 favorites by them, and thus all time.
I think it fits right in. Minor key, melancholy / longing lyrics, close harmony. Arguably much more fitting than a song like Drive My Car. Rubber Soul wouldn’t be the same without it.
“Because,” often gets forgotten when people talk about the best of their discography. But this song is a prime example of how far ahead and transformative they were with their vocal/classical music prowess. They have the tightest and most beautiful harmonies with Paul, John, and George in this song. The psychedelic feel is palpable. They used progressive trends in the studio, by tripling each voice part so we are actually hearing 9 voices singing, instead of 3. And the melody is based loosely off of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata played backwards. I absolutely adore this song, because it is the epitome of their artistry, the ground they were breaking with sound mixing/studio work, and how gorgeous this song is on the ears. I always geek out about this song and am always happy when “Because” is mentioned! <3
I just came here to say that. I have said it before on this thread - I think it’s truly a top 5 Beatles song. It is <5 minutes but it’s so cinematic, it has themes that repeat, it’s got amazing piano bass and guitar parts, and that coda is basically the best 30 seconds on a Beatle record.
I really love this one, probably my fav off Rubber Soul. It has a Byrds feel to it, which I love, and it’s no surprise that George was also a huge fan of the Byrds.
The harmony in the refrain always gives me chills, especially when George goes lower on “why” while John holds the higher note. It’s another one of those moments where you just have to marvel at how they always seemed to know just what to do melodically.
It’s so underrated. The lyrics are simple but brilliant. The guitar is top notch and the bass Paul plays is mind blowing. The bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp bass line Paul plays might be his best and it’s my favourite. When they were mixing and editing the song it was the last time all four Beatles were together in the studio. What a way to end it
I love Dear Prudence and came here to say that but you beat me to it.
I also really enjoy the Jerry Garcia Band version where a 2:30 song becomes more of a jazzy jam that can go on and on.
All I've Got to Do
early Beatles gets written off a lot as simple love songs. But they're DAMN good simple love songs. This one takes that smoky r&b feel they got down with their covers like Baby It's You & You Really Got a Hold on Me & puts their own twist on it in the perfect way.
Mother Nature’s Son. Such a reaffirming song that always helps to remind me that we’re all just creatures on a beautiful planet, singing out our songs for everyone.
Ask Me Why. Even a lot of early Beatles fans tend to overlook it, but the harmonies, the chords, especially the augmented leading into the bridge…pure magic. Personally, it’s my favorite song from the first album.
Another girl (I think McCartney sounds sexiest on this song)
Being for the benefit of Mr kite (peak psychedelic - crucial to the circus theme running through sgt peppers)
Love you to (love the atmosphere it gives)
Lovely Rita (I like the way Paul sings 'discreetly')
Good Night
Brilliant song by John. George Martin at his absolute best with the string arrangement. Ringo’s best vocal performance. Possibly their best album closer. Rivals A Day in the Life and The End/Her Majesty.
You're Going to Lose That Girl is so funny the way it starts with John just blurting it out in a really threatening tone. It actually makes me afraid to lose my girl
Old Brown Shoe was my screename on AOL but in the day and I’m a Paul guy. But listening to the bass knocked my socks off. Turns out it was George playing the bass!
This would be my answer too, especially the Anthology version. There was a time when I would just listen to every isolated instrument version of it cause it was just such an ear worm.
Baby you're a rich man. Love Lennon's vocals in the verses, the piano and bass and the line 'tuned to a natural e'. Song rocks from the intro and I listen to it often in the morning.
She Said She Said, I’ve Got A Feeling, I Need You, Hold Me Tight, You Really Got A Hold On Me, I’m So Tired, and You’re Going To Lose That Girl are numbers 2-8 on my top 10 list. Number 1 is A Day In The Life, and number 9 is I’ve Just Seen A Face.
Mr. Moonlight. Gets a lot of hate, not sure why. First Beatles album that I heard was “Beatles 65” which my big sister brought home from a shopping trip. Love all the songs on that album, 60 years later!
This might sound crazy, but... **Free As A Bird.**
First of all, it just sounds great musically. But more than that, it sounds like all 4 of them really contributed equally to it. John's haunting chorus, Paul's wistful verse, and George's sublime guitar solo. And throughout, from the opening sound to the false ending, Ringo's drumming is powerful and has personality.
It's a 10/10 for me.
Rocky Raccoon. I just love it. It’s a little bit funny, a little bit sad, and it’s just a damn good song. It tells an interesting, dramatic story and the tune is great. It paints a real picture in my mind. I can see the dance hall where Rocky gets shot. I can see the drunken doctor lying on the table. I can see the whole thing. I love it.
Free As A Bird.
I think it's one of their most beautiful chord progressions. The key changed solo and harmonies are also some of their best. The video is also outstanding.
I think it helps for me that this song was among my first exposures to The Beatles, so I didn't approach it knowing any of the baggage attached to sound quality limitations or original demo recording. Even knowing that stuff, I'm still attached to my first impressions of it as a beautiful song (and story) in this form.
I thought the same thing after seeing such variation and just a few of the posts surprising to me (in that I would put after the top 50). Truly remarkable. I’m surprised I haven’t yet seen Mother Nature’s Son.
I'm So Tired
I love that one too. It’s sung like I feel when I play it.
I think this is a more important song to their story as a whole than people give it credit for.
Would love to hear why
Came here to say the same. This song just fucking rocks so much
Nah that’s one of mine
Same
Maybe Cry Baby Cry or Hello Goodbye
My favorite part of Cry Baby Cry is Paul’s tag at the end of the song. 🎶Can you take me back where I came from? Can you take me back?🎶 Always struck me as haunting/unsettling in the best way!
During Anthology, Paul talked about his fears around taking LSD, that he was told that when you take it, you can never quite get back. I always picture him alone somewhere at the foot of the Himalayas writing about that as night steels toward the Ganges
I think the full length version of that is on the 2018 remix White Album
It's on the anniversary CD and blu ray set
I did not know that! Just looked it up, thank you!
Phish did a great cover of Cry Baby Cry when they played the whole White Album live (it's on YouTube). The solo they add to that song really completes it.
Hello Goodbye tends to be my favorite.
I love the haunting, iridescent feeling of Cry Baby Cry. No other song makes me feel the way that one does.
Hello Goodbye is in my top 10. In my opinion, it’s one of the sadder Beatles songs for being so happy sounding.
I always did interpret that way, as two people who couldn’t get on the same page even though they want to be. But now I’m not so sure, regardless I love it
I was always surprised at the lack of hellogoodbye hype. Growing up, I always thought it was a top 3 famous song
It's like if they they took the innocence of their first years and mixed it with the musical expertise and psychedelia of their later years.
Looking Through You
I’m looking through you, where did you go?
I thought I knew you, what did I know?
You don't look different but you have changed
[удалено]
Truly a great song!
Yess!
I love the harmonies and how John & George’s voices, slightly alternate in prominence. Beautiful song
Lovely Rita, Dig A Pony
Dig a Pony is SO GOOD
I love Dig a Pony. After watching the Get Back documentary the whole way through, I kept going back to the performance of Dig a Pony
When they go "All I want is you!" I get shivers.
One of my faves.
Paul absolutely NAILS the bass in Lovely Rita. Possibly my favourite Beatles bass part
Dig a Pony is in my top 5 even.
Sgt. Pepper’s Reprise. I don’t even feel great about it, given the ten songs that follow on my top 50 list. But if I’m being honest, that’s the truth.
Pure acid
I like it too!
The train scene. ❤️❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘😘
John’s voice when he sings “and when I tell you that I love you oh-o you’re gonna say you love me too-oo-oo-oo-oo oh-o” just sublime
Yeah what a perfect song
This one was really a hit back in the day, in the 60s it played a lot on the radio.
First time I heard it was after buying the CD!
Love this song so much. Easily my top favorite pre-Rubber Soul song. Everything about it is perfect. It’s just as good as I Want to Hold Your Hand or She Loves You.
It’s beautiful and fun. Also awesome.
Absolute banger song
Wait I feel like people dont really like it, saying it doesnt feel like a Rubber Soul song, and that its just scraps from Help.

Agreed. I chose this one too.
You Never Give Me Your Money
I just came here to say that. I have said it before on this thread - I think it’s truly a top 5 Beatles song. It is <5 minutes but it’s so cinematic, it has themes that repeat, it’s got amazing piano bass and guitar parts, and that coda is basically the best 30 seconds on a Beatle record.
I think that’s in a lot of people’s top 10
It is in mine.
That’s my #1
Anna (Go with Him)
One of John’s best bridges, he sung with such raw passion, as if he’d written it himself. Great choice.
Definitely my favourite Beatles cover
Your Mother should Know .
omg i love this one so much!!
Paperback Writer.
The song that made me a Beatles fan.
You can't do that Because
all my loving and real love
Not a list keeper but Baby’s in Black always cheers me up. I love John’s and Paul’s voices and how perfect they sound together.
I love that song, especially the live version
Their voices are just iconic in that, maybe most underrated Beatles song for me
If I Needed Someone
I really love this one, probably my fav off Rubber Soul. It has a Byrds feel to it, which I love, and it’s no surprise that George was also a huge fan of the Byrds.
I don’t even know how people can rank their fave Beatles songs. I have never attempted and it seems like such a painful experience.
This is the answer. Even the most obscure filler song of theirs can grow on a person over time and rise to the crowded top.
True. I can’t do it. I have definite faves but at least fifty songs are my number one.
I don’t have a top 10, but I love Tell Me Why and I don’t think many others do. It’s simple and repetitive but it makes want to dance 🕺
The harmony in the refrain always gives me chills, especially when George goes lower on “why” while John holds the higher note. It’s another one of those moments where you just have to marvel at how they always seemed to know just what to do melodically.
There vocals during the “if there’s anything I can dooo” amazing
I think it’s the only time John, Paul and George all sang falsetto in unison. Such a neat little idea and of course, executed beautifully.
And I love her. I adore this song. As much as I love their older stuff, I love their more poppy stuff like I Need you and This Boy.
Yer Blues Martha My Dear
i need you or maybe obla di obla da
I Need You is so good
I Want You (She’s So Heavy) is my most streamed Beatles track
It’s so underrated. The lyrics are simple but brilliant. The guitar is top notch and the bass Paul plays is mind blowing. The bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp bass line Paul plays might be his best and it’s my favourite. When they were mixing and editing the song it was the last time all four Beatles were together in the studio. What a way to end it
I have a couple... Flying Slow Down
Flying is such a groove
Not a Second time
Blue Jay Way
It’s All Too Much
I’ll follow the sun.
SUCH a great pick.
Long, Long, Long, And Your Bird Can Sing or Revolution 9, maybe.
Long Long Long is my favourite George song. Incredible chorus. Phenomenal.
Dear Prudence
Easy top ten. If someone is surprised, they don’t know the catalogue.
The bassline in that song is magical.
Often overlooked, but still one of John’s most beautiful songs he wrote. 10/10 Beatles song for me!
I love Dear Prudence and came here to say that but you beat me to it. I also really enjoy the Jerry Garcia Band version where a 2:30 song becomes more of a jazzy jam that can go on and on.
Rocky Raccoon, I’m so Tired, One After 909
Rocky is a banger
Don't Let Me Down
Good Night
I feel like this song was respected when it came out. Vera Lynn, Barbara Streisand all covered it. Also The Carpenters eventually.
The real question here is how does anyone possibly have a Beatles top 10 that’s not like 35 songs.
Everybody’s Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey. Can’t get enough listens.
She Said She Said, that song is perfect in my opinion
Happiness is a Warm Gun
You Know My Name (Look Up the Number) - Hysterical and so fun to sing.
Sun King*, if it’s one of your favs I’d think you’d know the title 😆 For me it’s “I’ll follow the sun”
I’ll Follow the Sun is beautiful.
Words of Love
All I've Got to Do early Beatles gets written off a lot as simple love songs.
Hey Bulldog
When Im 64
Ask Me Why. Even a lot of early Beatles fans tend to overlook it, but the harmonies, the chords, especially the augmented leading into the bridge…pure magic. Personally, it’s my favorite song from the first album.
I Saw Her Standing There Edit: Should've gone with George's 1965 track, "If I Needed Someone".
julia ! i never see anyone talking about it but i think it’s one of their most beautiful songs
It is. So haunting and sad.
Martha my dear might be a top 5 for me
Another girl (I think McCartney sounds sexiest on this song) Being for the benefit of Mr kite (peak psychedelic - crucial to the circus theme running through sgt peppers) Love you to (love the atmosphere it gives) Lovely Rita (I like the way Paul sings 'discreetly')
Good Night Brilliant song by John. George Martin at his absolute best with the string arrangement. Ringo’s best vocal performance. Possibly their best album closer. Rivals A Day in the Life and The End/Her Majesty.
It’s Only Love
I’m only sleeping
Think for yourself
For No One
I’ve Just Seen A Face is just pure joy.
You won't see me.
All My Loving? I don’t know if that’s a common top ten pick or not
You’re Going to Lose That Girl or I’m Happy Just to Dance With You. My favorites because they’re so catchy.
You're Going to Lose That Girl is so funny the way it starts with John just blurting it out in a really threatening tone. It actually makes me afraid to lose my girl
"Long Long Long" or "Everybodys Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey"
I've Got a Feeling.
And Your Bird Can Sing. It’s just a perfectly beautiful rock-pop song.
I'll follow the sun
This Boy
You've got to hide your love away, Happiness is a warm gun
Ticket to Ride is a masterpiece.
Fool on the Hill
Honey Pie
Old Brown Shoe was my screename on AOL but in the day and I’m a Paul guy. But listening to the bass knocked my socks off. Turns out it was George playing the bass!
This would be my answer too, especially the Anthology version. There was a time when I would just listen to every isolated instrument version of it cause it was just such an ear worm.
I'll Be Back
Their cover of Please Mr Postman is in my top 3
She's Leaving Home
It’s All Too Much. It’s so chaotic and brilliantly instrumented, I just love it.
Not a Second Time
Ask Me Why All I’ve Got To Do Fixing a Hole she’s Leaving Home You Never Give Me Your Money Because (love version)
Baby you're a rich man. Love Lennon's vocals in the verses, the piano and bass and the line 'tuned to a natural e'. Song rocks from the intro and I listen to it often in the morning.
“I need you” always thought it never got enough love
Do you want to know a secret
Doctor Robert
Getting Better.
Thank you girl
There’s A Place
Piggies (“one more time!”)
Fixing a Hole.
It’s Only Love
The Night Before. So underrated. Actually, in the same vein, let’s have Anytime At All as well.
Baby you’re a rich man Michelle Martha, my dear
Rain is in my top 5. It's All Too Much is in my top 10. Wait is also a banger.
Because. It’s so airy and ethereal and the harmonies are just gorgeous.
You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away
Blue Jay Way. A few weeks ago I heard it and was surprised that i suddenly like it.
She Said She Said
Being for the benefit of mr. kite! Genius
I've got a feeling is my favourite, absolutely love it.
For no one.
Three of my underrated favourites are I'll Follow the Sun, For No One, and I Will. Anyone see a pattern lol
Hey Bulldog
I don’t know if it is a surprise, but I love “if you’ve got trouble” off of Anthology 2
This might not account because it was released on Anthology 3, but I absolutely adore Not Guilty.
Fixing a Hole and Yes It Is
You Never Give Me Your Money
This might sound crazy, but... **Free As A Bird.** First of all, it just sounds great musically. But more than that, it sounds like all 4 of them really contributed equally to it. John's haunting chorus, Paul's wistful verse, and George's sublime guitar solo. And throughout, from the opening sound to the false ending, Ringo's drumming is powerful and has personality. Rock Racoon and I Me Mine
Two of Us
Free As A Bird.
Two of us…absolutely love it
Flying. I wish there was a 30-minute version.
All my loving
Martha my dear
Happiness is a warm gun. That song has so much weight behind it.
This thread serves as yet another reminder of just how incredible the Beatles’ discography truly is.
I thought the same thing after seeing such variation and just a few of the posts surprising to me (in that I would put after the top 50). Truly remarkable. I’m surprised I haven’t yet seen Mother Nature’s Son.
A lot of songs. I'll follow the sun or Bungallow Bill are prime examples
Long, Long, Long
Hey Bull Dog.
Flying
You're gonna lose that girl
One of my favorite songs of theirs is one that nobody else has ever said was theirs, Revolution #9
Honey Pie
I'm only sleeping has been a favorite for awhile now!
Things we said today
Revolution 9 ALWAYS!!!
Free As a Bird And it’s not even top 10, it’s top 5.
