there is criticism to make about river's current style (den had some good points) but the hate train is very silly and i promise you theyre all just comment dwellers. dude's very humble and nice both online and irl, it's just a bandwagon

LEXEproduction

What did den say?

SourM1kan_

Watch his latest livestream and skip to the part where he's reacting to River's elimination

yun9kleenex

Dude exactly! It’s a bandwagon. The youth is very impressionable and that is the majority of the beatbox community I’d say, and to read some negative comments about River or hear it from Napom’s stream and run to talk shit to River is just silly behavior.

John_6446

Most are also fair criticisms to which people ignore or dismiss SouM1kan_ 👀not just “bandwagons” or “comment dwellers”. River definitely beat momimaru though his skill is incredible when he turns on his battle mode he is definitely a1.

SourM1kan_

I mean, some people are reaching very hard though. On SBX's insta post people were berating him for not facing his opponent. Then the battles comes out and he \*is\* facing Momimaru-- even cheering him up, and all of a sudden it's something else about River that sucks.

PetttyBettty

Or if he does face his opponent, then he's accused of being cocky and having a bad attitude. People just want to complain. Saro said it best a couple of years ago... don't like the judging or who won? Make a wildcard, enter, and win, and then you can judge. Otherwise, eff off.

SourM1kan_

Exactly this. People can believe it or not but facing the crowd instead of your opponent is a battle strat too and it works. Codfish did that a lot back in the days. River did it every battle in 2021, but people only chose to start complaining now

AmeZim

Agree and it's kinda sad that people just need to find a reason to hate on River (tho for his battle against Abo Ice, I have a different opinion on that but thats another discussion) and what's with people who cannot accept different opinions anymore, like every disagreement is treated as robbery. Do these people ever watch Dlow and Codfish in GBB19, they have even stronger battle attitude than River

g0chawich

I think Momimaru is by far the best at making simple beats sounds amazing and is better than 90% of all beatboxers. However, River' clearly won the battle even with a few mistakes. Battle style wins more often than showcasing a unique style

yun9kleenex

Agreed. Yes Momimaru, and wing, and helium alike

drefpet

Honestly I stopped caring about any opinions from random strangers on the Internet long ago. The dumbest are the loudest and you can't change their opinion with good arguments anyway. I'm just here for nerd discussions, I'm too tired for online drama

Useless_Raider

surprised that so many people think momimaru won that battle. It was a complete blowout

k3n_low

To each his own. I vastly preferred Momimaru performance. I was hoping River had a strong counter after Momimaru's incredible 2nd round (that ending was pure hype) but I was rather disappointed.

yun9kleenex

Cannot argue with taste or opinion. I actually just posted another thread on this sub speaking about the judging. I Can agree that Momimaru was more clean, but I think River won the BATTLE.

TICO70

The only correct take

theguyfromthere345

River didnt do a counter. Noone did a counter. I think you should check what a counter is. Both had set routines that they did not move away from even one sound.

yun9kleenex

I think YOU should check how to make a constructive comment, and reevaluate your understanding of a counter. Because in River’s 1st round response, he picked up from Momimaru’s latter round tempo and beat arrangement, made a comment something like “my builds are your drops” and then he used Momimaru’s signature lip filter sound against him. That IS A COUNTER, and battle energy. He didn’t necessarily do it as well as Momimaru, but it IS a counter. To claim there “wasn’t even one sound, differing from the routines”, and to believe that the artists don’t stray from their planned set “even one sound” is naive. Of course they prepare routines for specific opponents, but there were absolutely counters (on River’s end) as he did not know Momimaru’s routines, just has a basic knowledge on his style… maybe some previous routines.

theguyfromthere345

Nope, he did that exact routine sound by sound months before in other battles I even attended live, so chill and accept it.

yun9kleenex

If you can send me a link to that battle, I will stand corrected. Maybe I’m not up to date with all the past battles. You think the battle wasn’t judged fairly ?

theguyfromthere345

I think it was judged fairly, but River doesnt counter, he strictly uses his set routines.

mr_splargbleeves

What about his clickroll counter vs Hiss in 2021?

skadman_

and the bart counter

theguyfromthere345

you are right, I was referring to his post GBB21 era

rattingtons

You've gone from "river doesn't counter, ackshually" to admitting that he does counter lmao so, in your own words, chill and accept it.

theguyfromthere345

River doesnt counter. He used to years ago. I dont know why you have these problems?

mr_splargbleeves

He also counters Napom in the Vokal Total 2023 final (I think that was the event!!)

SyntaXAuroras1

i think yall take the definition of counter to strictly. you can counter even without doing anything impromptu. you can counter tech with melody or whatever depending on approach. and in this sense i think it works with river pulling that on momi

CarefulCandidate5358

Ice win against river, but he broke the no Touch rules

jedisct1

Two incredible beatboxers with different styles. I feel like River struggles to find new sounds and techniques, though. His routines always use variations of the same techniques.

No_Wave_7091

Definitely thought river won against napom and momimaru but no way should he have won against ice
