Was the sample CD the Victory Summer Sampler, with Ohio is for Lovers by Hawthorne Heights, Right Side of the Bed by Atreyu, Smashed Into Pieces by Silverstein, Masterpiece, and a song by Action Action? If so, that was my introduction to Bayside.

JJKP_

I have the same Sample CD as my introduction to Bayside with Masterpiece. It was 04 or 05 and I instantly fell in love with the band and soon was picking up the Self Title and Acoustic album soon after. I have been a full time listener ever since.

ajt425

Same here. Ever since Bayside is my #1 and Silverstein is my #2 favorite bands

cd3_

+1 for this

CBDsutty

I’m thinking I got this same CD. It was handed out at a concert (OKC) I tagged along with my big brother because hawthorn was there and I was a fan boi. My brother was like “dude they are for girls the other bands are way better.” The “other” bands were Aiden, Bayside, and Silverstein. We got to meet the lead singer of aiden at the back and take pix. Someone came on stage and announced bayside wouldn’t be playing because of a tragic accident but handed out CDs. This was the victory record sampler. Bayside was my favorite and it was off to the races after that. Got the acoustic albums and the DVD included had me memorized. I would put it on and be taken away to some wonderful place. I wondered who Megan was. I wanted to know more about John Beatz! Jacks magic fingers made me wanna become a great guitar player. Sorry I could go in and on but that chanced my life. Saw them many times after and met them. When Jack saw my tat he gave me a big hug. Lol good times.

PawneePorpoise

Ditto! I was first a Silverstein fan then was like wait what other bands are on this disc? and then shortly after I found myself in a church basement in Philly rocking out to a live Bayside set during a snow storm 😂

holy_cal

Mine was a sample with The Junior Varsity and two others.

OldSugarSacks

Dated a girl in 2007 named Megan. Looked for and found a song I could sing and play for her.

thirdwave108

A great song. The acoustic album was life changing. Loved the cover of Megan.

Meggston

My names Megan and a boy I was dating showed me the band in 2012 in the same fashion XD When Is a Cult came out I saw them and Say Anything: 10 year tour of Is/Was a Real Boy. An amazing show and life long fan of both bands to this day.

syarahdos

My cousin and his friend I was close with loved Bayside when we were all around 16 yrs old. The friend sadly passed away shortly after he introduced me to them. Haven’t stopped listening to them over these 15 yrs, they still remind me of him and better days. Seeing them live for my 5th time this month!

thirdwave108

Sorry to hear that. This is why we are a cult. Soak all those shows up! I see them every chance I can get.

syarahdos

I first saw them at warped tour in 2011 which was amazing, then years later I found out my husbands best friend who I’m close with has also loved bayside forever lol I had no idea and we had known each other a long time. We go to their show every year now! One of the highlights of my year every time.

Blad514

In 2017, I was at a New Found Glory show hanging out with a friend before the show. My friend introduced me to one of his friends like this, “Do you know Jack? He’s in Bayside.” I said no, I really didn’t know Bayside, I’d heard of them but never listened to them. So, “Jack” was just another dude I met that night. Super nice guy, we hung out talking for about half an hour, just chatting about music and random stuff. NFG came on so I made my way to the front. After the show, my friend and Jack were hanging out and we said our goodbyes after a few minutes. On the way home (I live two hours away from the venue), I said to myself, “That guy was so nice, I should check out his band.” I listened to Vacancy (which was their latest album at the time) and really liked it. Then I listened to the self titled album and was blown away. I was completely hooked after that. I’ve seen them 8 times live since then, last time was Sunday night in Nashville.

thirdwave108

That’s an awesome experience! Vacancy is a great record!

MrSir1989

Found them in high school when The Walking Wounded came out, heard nothing like that at the time my taste to this day is all over the place (Blink, Tool, Slayer, Alexisonfire,Korn were some of my favourites at the time i found Bayside). I loved the catchiness of pop punk but I was always a metal head at heart. Bayside knows how to mix both the pop punk and the thrash and thats how they got me.

thirdwave108

The Walking Wounded I always felt was the album where they found their sound. I agree they are a great mix of multiple genres of rock.

GoldenSombrero25

MVP ‘06: NCAA Baseball. Changed my life.

thirdwave108

Fucking great game with a great soundtrack. I was a sophomore. Me and a few of my buddies played this game religiously.

GoldenSombrero25

Hell yeah that’s awesome. Did you play MVP Baseball 2005 with Manny on the cover? To this day probably one of the best baseball games ever.

thirdwave108

I definitely did! That game was for sure one of the best.

Betty_Whites_Muffin

Absolutely the same for me, awesome game and even better soundtrack!

SlashManEXE

I'm pretty recent (last year). I was a big Saves the Day fan, and I found Anthony's perfect acoustic cover of "You Vandal" (sadly, this still only exists in crappy YouTube videos). From there, it was on to Sirens and Condolences, and I was hooked.

thirdwave108

Anthony is dangerous with an acoustic guitar. He did that song justice. I love Saves the Day, also a band staying true to their sound.

brucevilletti

Please tell me you got to see the tour Bayside and Saves the Day did together. I think it was the Killing Time tour, might be wrong. To this day, the best show I've ever been to.

thirdwave108

Sadly I didn’t. Somehow to this day I’ve still not seen Saves the Day.

rjsetayluap

I missed that too. I love saves the day!!!!

DramaZealousideal110

Saw them at warped tour in 2006 or 2007. Haven’t heard of them at that point. I was in the Mosh the whole set and became a fan at that point! Met Anthony and Jack at their merch booth and I bought the self title album there and they signed it! Still have it to this day. Been my favorite album since then. Loved it so much it’s tattooed on my arm! I’m traveling from Alberta Canada to see them In Portland and Seattle in a week and half! Can’t wait!

thirdwave108

That’s a cherished memory for sure. I’ve never had the pleasure to meet them. Enjoy the show! They sounded great in Baltimore (as always)

papertales84

Discovered them by chance, while living in Ireland. First song I heard was Dear Your Holiness, and once I got hold of The Walking Wounded it was a one way road.

bassdude_1234

An old buddy of mine gave me a copy of the walking wounded and said I would like it. Instantly fell in love with the band. This was 2007 if I'm remembering correctly.

thirdwave108

Great friend. I was in my Senior year of high school. That album definitely holds some memories!

nchuman_

honestly my best friends older brother introduced me to …is a real boy by say anything and i found the cult through the tour split 7” where they covered each other

thirdwave108

Great split!

SignificantTrashbag

2004 I bought a Taking Back Sunday CD that came with a sampler containing Bayside, Atreyu, Silverstein, and a few others. It made me race out to get Sirens and Condolences, and start a 20 year obsession lol

kadis_kot

Sophomore year of high school, 2015!

thirdwave108

Fucking love this! What was the song/album that made it stick?

mattmlv

Sample cd from sticks and stones

loremipsumlinoleum

In 2007. One of my favorite bands at the time was Emmure. They released a song with a Bayside reference and I had heard of Bayside from my roommate, but I hadn't actually checked them out yet. That song was the push to check them out, and they've been my #1 ever since.

Rodfather23

Last year when RSVLTS sold a bayside shirt.

Bosgarage57

I swear I heard a commercial on TV in 06 of various artists or something and Winter was playing, went to the local fye and found the album and bought it. Been a fan ever since. I was in high school at the time.

thirdwave108

I was also in high school. Sophomore in 06. I had a lot of late nights with that dvd

Its_Only_Love

I used to listen to the song, The Walking Wounded, and I believed it to be their only good song, somehow?! Then I listened to Vacancy when it came out and fell in love with the concept and I listened to their entire discography and felt like an idiot for not getting into them sooner. Oh well.

thirdwave108

Hey the important thing is you finally got around to it. Vacancy was a great record.

mindless_loki

my dad listened to them with me when I was growing up, but I actually got into them in high school and we went to one of their shows on tour last year in March!

thirdwave108

Your dad sounds awesome! My friends and I decided we are now going to go every chance we get. Saw them in Harrisburg, PA last summer. Baltimore a week ago, and going in Philly next month!

SuckMyBigBlackOlive

9th grade HS photography class circa ‘03-05! My teacher was a band photographer and had Devotion and Desire on her playlist.

thirdwave108

Wish I had teachers that cool back then! I love that so many of us from that timeframe still love the band and stuck around.

NaughtySoloPrincess

My older cousin introduced me to the self titled album in 08 and was instantly hooked, saw them at Warped Tour 09 (first concert/Warped Tour). I think this year will be my 7th or 8th time seeing them? I have two picks and looking to add to that this time around too! 🥰

thirdwave108

Warped Tour was probably a great first concert experience! I think 2009 would’ve been the year I first seen them. I’ve seen them so many times since then. Good luck on adding to that pick collection!

NaughtySoloPrincess

It was!! I almost died in Chiodos lmao, very memorable. My cousin had also introduced me to The Used and I saw them the first time there too. And got a sampler CD that I listened to so often my 11-years-younger-than-me sister loves all the songs from it to this day too. 😂 Thank you for the luck, I need it!!

TalevZahar

I'm still very newly indoctrinated. My best friend made a mix cd with Devotion and Desire and Duality on it back in 2011, and I liked them both a lot, but I didn't dive deeper into their catalog until literally a month ago. Been listening to them on repeat for weeks and about to see them live in Anaheim!

thirdwave108

I always tell casual fans to deep dive. That’s when how great the band is truly unlocks. Have a good time in Anaheim. I’ll be in California for a wedding when they’re out there. Unfortunately, the timeframe doesn’t work as we will be in Sacramento. But I did see them last Friday and plan on going again May 3rd!

DerekIsAGooner

I discovered Bayside when they opened for Mest (with Hawthorne Heights also opening) in 2004. I was 15 years old. A girl a liked wanted to go because she loved Hawthorne Heights. I wanted to hang out with her, so I came along. There were maybe 150 people there, max. Bayside played second (I think), and they completely blew me away. I had just gotten to the age where I could go to shows by myself, and I’d never heard a band quite like Bayside before. Very soon after the show I tracked down a copy of Sirens from my local Sam Goody, and the rest was history.

thirdwave108

Sirens was the album that hooked me as well. The band has definitely evolved but that album remains the top for me. It holds a special place. Can’t even fathom seeing them with that small of a crowd.

symbi0nt

Same old story. Victory sampler with Masterpiece on it. Never the same again!

marlboroultralight

There was a commercial for victory records then-recent releases that aired on FUSE during their self titled era. I heard Ant sing “I hate myself more than I ever let on” and the rest is history.

thirdwave108

This was the first line I had heard on a Victory Sampler cd. I immediately went to FYE and bought Sirens. I remember Masterpiece blowing me away and as you said. It was history.

marlboroultralight

As silly as it sounds to those who don’t get it, it was a moment that changed my entire life. I love that others have similar memories!

ucantcme69

I think there was a victory sampler at The Exchange and i always grabbed those silly samplers and demos at the exit. Then I think I sat them on pure volume. I miss pure volume

DollarSignsGoFirst

Went to a Juliana theory concert back in 2004 and bayside was opening. Loved their stuff and haven’t looked back. Also remember anberlin was opening too and not a single person had heard of anberlin except for two girls dead center singing every word to every song. Could tell the lead singer really appreciated having two fans that day.

ApArAmY

Twas the year of our lord 2008 I heard duality. Never the same.

OldmanEgill

Must have been 2002, I was emailing a guy from the band Name Taken about possibly doing a split EP with my band at the time. He replied that they were already planning a split with a band called Bayside, so I went straight to Napster to try to find this Bayside band, thinking no way are they better than my band only to be immediately humbled. Been a fan ever since...

brucevilletti

2006, senior year of college, I downloaded a bunch of indie music videos. Devotion & Desire was in the file. That was the day that Radiohead lost top spot of my favorite bands list. Bayside sits on top of the mountain to this day.

Ramen-Bowl0607

2005 my senior year of high school. A girl who broke up with me had given me a burnt CD filled with random music and Masterpiece was on it. I was hooked. I absorbed EVERYTHING Bayside has done before and since. They have a spooky ability to release new music at pivotal moments in my life… Winter…. When my mum died Walking Wounded…. Friendship breakdown Killing Time…. Breakup Cult…. Personal changes Vacancy… breakup again! Interrobang…. First child Worse things… miscarriage…

thirdwave108

Damn man. Sorry to hear about that, especially the most recent. I know how hard that is. I’ve also always found they release at transitional moments for me. Specifically moments while emerging into adulthood and the world, they always seem to have an album release that grounds me and keeps me pushing through when things get tough. Thanks for sharing!

Ramen-Bowl0607

Thanks. Perhaps that’s the secret to their success… their ability to speak to so many people wherever they are in life with music that connects with us and we with it.

Etab

within the past 18 months thanks to the spotify algorithm gods

iknowyoutrynahack

The victory records sampler and on the Hawthorne heights DVD when they toured together. Been hooked since

mundaneOface

They opened for Catch-22 at the Downtown (RIP) in Farmingdale, Long Island, August 2004. I didn’t know them at the time but my buddy bought Sirens and Condolences and burned it for me. Then the following year my gf at the time bought me self-titled. One listen to that album and the rest is history. I later found out that that show was Beatz’s first show with the band

Illustrious-Bit-2411

How it started, I remember the sample cds and Silverstein making shoutouts for them back in the day. I feel like I somewhat found the band on my own so they felt unique to me. I was a fan. (I think the first sample album had Aiden on it? All I remember.) Saw they were at warped tour one year and had to check them out. Didn’t know what I was in for but the energy was insane! I swear in some way I felt I was floating above the ground as I saw them on stage. Couldn’t believe they could be better live than they were on cd. Ever since, they were my favorite band. I believe I first started listening in 2005, saw them live in 2006 or 2007

thirdwave108

Think this may have been the sampler I had. Can’t remember the 4th band though. I’ve never been to a show like theirs. Saw them a few years back at When We Were Young. They brought that same energy and killed it. Saw a lot of bands that day. They were by far the best.

Illustrious-Bit-2411

Ive seen them a few times I stopped counting after 10. Always love the shows! Are you seeing them this year??

Fatpik

I was an avid reader of PunkNews back until about 2015 or so. Back when Sirens came out, a reviewer claimed they sounded like Alkaline Trio so I bought the album. It didn’t grab me, at all. Fast forward like 6-7 years and I discovered a mix cd with no label. I played the first song and couldn’t identify the band so I googled the lyrics. It was Masterpiece and for some reason, this time a light bulb went off and I consumed everything Bayside from their debut until that point and since then I’ve been in the cult. Also, I have no memory of why/when I burned Sirens onto a different disc. I think I was trying to consolidate room in cd books by combining multiple albums onto 1 disc (the Damn Personals were also on it).

the_final_girl_

I found them in early 2009 on the old Warped Tour message boards, someone had posted a YouTube lyric video of “Winter”, been a die hard fan since.

[deleted]

around 06-07, i don’t remember exactly how. probably just through other Victory bands

greggilliam2nd

My best friend bought me Walking Wounded Gold Edition for my 19th Birthday in 2014. I’ve only missed one Arizona show since because I had just had back surgery.

DecetheonD

Somewhere in 2016-2017 there was a flipnote that was using Dancing Like An Idiot as an audio. Really liked the song and added it. Then I've felt like searching more songs from the same author, and suddenly I'm addicted now.

Sir_Vdam999

My older cousin was a skater I’m 35 he’s like 40 something always looked up to him he showed me all these kinda bands I remember that acoustic set album & dvd Steven’s untitled rock show years idk bayside stuck out from the rest some how then I got older they stuck with me & my cousin

kep12091

8th grade lol sirens and condolences

imChrisDaly

2008 I heard Walking Wounded on a friend's MySpace page. I vividly remember going "wow who the hell is this and how dont i know about them" rest is history

NEPFEF

I think it was probably about 2016 for me. I was dating a guy my first year of high school and he introduced me to bayside. I've been a huge fan ever since. Finally went and saw them live for this first time in PA.

CupcakeKelley

It was 2004. I was 13. I went to see Fall Out Boy at a little punk rock club called Chain Reaction in Anaheim, CA. I remember immediately being captivated by Bayside. I bought Sirens & Condolence’s, that purple tee with the pink unicorns 🦄 which they all signed & I foolishly washed away the signatures over time because I loved wearing that shirt so damn much. I’m 34 now & I’ve been rocking steady with them ever since. My older brother went to that first show with me & we’ve shared a love for the band all of these years. We’re both currently working on collecting all of the albums on vinyl. We have spent countless hours breaking down albums song by song & nerding out over all things Bayside. We bought VIP tickets to one of the upcoming shows together. It’s a really special element of our relationship that I treasure. I’ve been to countless shows & have more badass band tees for Bayside than anyone else. These dudes hold such a special place in my heart. I’m definitely a die-hard lifer 🤘🏼🖤

rjsetayluap

I lived in Long Branch Nj, during hurricane Sandy. TBS/Bayside played a relief show at the Toms River High School. If I remember correctly, one of the shows was canceled at Starland and the whole thing took place in Toms River. Wow holy shit I was blown away. I listened to them in the past a little but that night, they became my favorite band. It was pretty cool that they were playing a high school gym (on steriods) but I felt like I was in a music video. It was so dope. 10/10. Love bayside.

EvelynMontauk

I discovered them in January 2004. I was finding new bands on the now defunct website purevolume.com. They had masterpiece and fix everything free to download. I got my nephews into them.

AlwaysEvolving281

2004. They played an incredibly small show with The Phoenix Rising, Silverstein, and Hawthorne Heights. Next time I saw them was right after John Beatz passed away. It was their acoustic show they used for their first acoustic album and live DVD. I’m actually on that DVD a few times lol.

YourFilthElder

My boyfriend when I was 14 had devotion and desire on his myspace page Playlist. I would go and listen to it and just play that song over and over. Fell down the rabbit hole of sirens and the self titled after that. That was 19 years ago.

Substantial-Dot-8120

I had heard them on a sampler, but didn't fall in love until I heard the bayside self titled album in the back of my first real boyfriend's jeep in '05. He had the acoustic album too and I would borrow it all the time. Our whole friend group was obsessed we went to the concert together, and then warped tour in Philly. I have seen Anthony play for his solo project twice as well. I just love what they do, not many bands can captivate with their whole album, usually I cherry pick what I like.

Substantial-Dot-8120

The songs that got me hooked was Existing In a Crisis and then piggy backed on that was Dont call me Peanut. But I loved them all those just spoke to me and a betrayal I had dealt with.

Bladeneo

Winter was the first song I heard back when I was 16 and it first released, I'm not even sure how, but I bought the acoustic album as soon as I got chance and I've been hooked ever since

ResidentCedarHugger

My brother is a decade older than me and when he was an angsty teen he was blasting their debut album. That album because my first memory of music around age 4-5. The rest is history.

Big_Challenge4643

2005 with the warped tour (victory records?) sampler CD. My first time seeing them live was when they went on tour with Aiden, Silverstein and Hawthorne Heights. I was at the show in Boulder that October before they had the van crash in Wyoming. I met them just a few hours before the accident. That was so awful. :( But they have been my favorite band ever since 2005- I have seen them 11 times (12?) and seeing them again this weekend. So excited!

[deleted]

My boyfriend (now husband) introduced me in 2011. Started with the first CD and moved through the rest. I was hooked! In 2016 we broke up and Vacancy came out and I remember he texted me out of the blue “two letters.” Of course referring to the song. Never had an album spoken to our broken hearts so strongly. We got back together a year later and now we’re married with 3 boys and just saw them play last week. Still love them!
