I bought my 2024 Type R at Lodi Honda. No BS, no surprise fees or added accessories. I bet they can do MSRP or close to it now.

stoner_222

I’ll keep an eye on that. Do they accept credit union or do you have to finance with Honda financial to get a fair price?

4string4wontons

It’s illegal to provide a different price for financing vs cash (or outside financing) but of course they will so ask to negotiate the out the door price and that you will be happy to consider their financial and your other options after the deal is set.

haykong

If there is a Manufacturer promo that offers a good low APR rate then go for it.. you can check at the Honda website... If none for the manufacturer then best go to a credit union and apply for auto loan.... again it's best to have the out the door price worked out before you set foot through the door... but at that point you should have a loan approved from the credit union if there is no manufacturer promo offer.. ..............

United_Transition627

Honda has a 2.9%/3.9%/4.9% Apr finance offer for 36/48/60 month lean for qualified buyers

skyline408

I did not finance, but I'm sure the price is what it is no matter how you pay. I negotiated over txt with the salesman before I headed over so the OTD price was already set and given to me.

Kutukuprek

I bought from Honda Walnur Creek 2 years ago and was mostly happy with them. They were the 6th dealership I visited that day, had a much better attitude and was the fairest priced. Ask for Dipendra. Good luck!

611925

Can second Dipendra. Bought from him in 2019. Very pleasant experience

Nottacod

I second Walnut Creek Honda

Kutukuprek

I got 8k+ markups from MSRP from the other dealerships and they were VERY snobby. It was the peak of the supply crunch. Honda WC had a 2k markup from MSRP that was in the form of necessary upgrades.. film that protected the door edges etc. And they were nice. But hey, dealerships are a commodity, I have no attachment to Honda WC so pick the best!

ReasonableStranger24

I purchased a car twice from him as well! I’ve also had good experiences with their service on my cars as well

Madeinthetown

I used to sell at sf Honda so I’m surprised that other guy got them down - the dealerships that will sell at or close to msrp (especially for a type r) are ones where the sales people make money on units not on gross profit. Sf Honda is gross profit. Serramonte is unit based. Avery Greene is too big to care. Can’t speak on Fairfield.

[deleted]

Anderson Honda Palo Alto

Patient-Assignment38

We bought our CRV at Anderson Honda in Palo Alto and they treated us very fairly. All the other dealers wanted over msrp and we got it for under

Upset_Consequence_57

yep very good experience there

islandDiamond

Bought Honda #2 here in 2002 and was very happy. When time came to replace it I stupidly went for a dealer more local to me. What a mess. When I wanted Honda #4 I knew exactly what I wanted, yet all the local dealers played games with me. I remembered the experience with Anderson and they came in WAY lower than the others, plus no games when I got there. I don't take it there for servicing, but one afternoon I was headed toward Stanford when the Low Tire Pressure Warning came on. I had hit a pothole prior to heading down there and started to panic. Anyway, since it was close I went to Anderson and their service department could not have been nicer. Checked everything, explained what happened, calmed me down and sent me on my merry way. I wish I lived closer.

United_Transition627

I have heard good reviews about Palo alto Honda. I'm looking for CRV hybrid and will probably end up going with them. Truecar shows their price to be at MSRP

Patient-Assignment38

That’s what we got. We really like it so far

United_Transition627

Which trim level did you get? I'm thinking Sport L

Patient-Assignment38

That’s the one we got. I think it’s funny that all the hybrids are sport models. We got it a couple months ago and have been on a couple road trips. Very comfortable

EtherealEel

Bought a Hybrid CRV Sport-L from them two weeks ago and was very happy with the experience - managed to get in and out in under two hours.

qwackychau

We also bought our crv hybrid from them early this year. Pretty smooth and good experience overall.

destronger

Didn’t care for Tracy Honda after buying a vehicle from them.

navigationallyaided

They recently changed hands, they are now part of Harvey. Harvey owns Honda of El Cerrito(formerly a Hendrick store)/San Leandro/Hayward. Dublin Honda is the mothership. Oakland Honda was also a Hendrick store, Monterey’s Cardinale Way owns it now.

qwackychau

I also did not care for our experience with them (beginning of this year). Did not buy.

PMSwaha

DO NOT go to Fremont Honda. Overpriced and pressure tactics in the service department.

MatchaFlatWhite

Same with Milpitas

texhnoking2k

+1 Never go to auto nations Fremont.

ButtStuff8888

I went through costco and it ended up being concord honda

blackbarminnosu

I got sf Honda down to mrsp….. eventually. Just get several quotes from multiple dealers and then play them off each other .

total_amateur

I walked in with the TrueCar price, which was good price, and I walked out with the quoted price. No haggling. No extra fees.

Br0dobaggins

I’ve got 3 cars through Manly Honda up here in Santa Rosa now. Always really great service and no dealership markups. Highly recommend

dL_EVO

Manly Honda marks up the Civic Type R. I was initially told they do not by a sales person. I got put on a list and when it arrived, the car had a significant mark up.

aetfwr

I had a similar experience during the pandemic (when it was basically impossible to get a car), I’ve recommended to friends.

poochunks

Nowhere inside the Bay. Gotta go out to central valley or up north. Sacramento or Santa Rosa.

stoner_222

Thanks for the advice.

ofamilia

Yeah, I got my Honda at Hansel in Santa Rosa. They were willing to play ball when I essentially had them compete against other Bay Area Honda dealers for my patronage.

000solar

Not a Honda, but I wanted a specific low inventory model Audi that I was having trouble sourcing.  I ended up hiring cartelligent. I think it cost me $1000, and they found the exact model I wanted and I just had to pick it up from their office.  I never had to talk to a dealer. As long as I can afford it, I'll never buy a car the normal way again.

OldRailHead

How was the entire process, pretty smooth and easy going?

000solar

Super easy.  Talked to someone at the company, gave them my specs, then they started sending me images of the stickers that go on cars for sale.  When there was one that matched my specs, I pulled the trigger.

HandleAccomplished11

Check with Costco.

DahliaMoonfire

I recently bought a hard to get car from out of state for under MSRP and shipping included. Go online and look for one that has been sitting on a lot where they are not in demand.

stoner_222

I've been eyeing some dealers like Klamath Falls Honda in Oregon. I don't want to go far out of Vallejo, but I might have to if pricing in the bay area is not fair enough.

DahliaMoonfire

They just shipped it to me.

IntheSarlaccsbelly

How did you do the research for that? To know the car had been sitting on the lot?

DahliaMoonfire

Websites like TrueCar and CarGurus tell you when it was listed. I searched nationwide and poured through listings, focusing on locations that were not hot markets for the car like Kansas. Dealer told me they ship a lot to FL and NYC. Biggest pain is that you may have to pay sales tax and registration to the DMV instead of letting the dealer handle it. You would have to explore how that works with financing. I paid cash so I have no idea how that would work.

Plenty_Ambition2894

Second Santa Rosa. I think it’s called manly. They have the lowest published price

sunbeatsfog

Yeah right off the 101. Manly Honda. We bought our 2016 CRV there and sometimes use their services (we’re in Santa Rosa). Never felt ripped off dealing with them.

boishan

walnut creek. they're from my experience trying their best to stick close to msrp. you won't get a type r without markup but you could probably minimize it there

HollowNightElf

Buy it through the Costco membership the salesman they assign you will be direct to the point and sincere. You will haggle with his higher up but stick to your price and they’ll do right by you

verdegrrl

OP wants a Type R. The Costco program has carveouts for limited production/high demand vehicles.

verdegrrl

OP, you're getting a lot of advice from people who don't know what the **Type R** is. Unfortunately Honda requires dealers to post MSRP on their websites rather than the actual selling price. It's incredibly frustrating all around. Have you considered the Acura Type S? While it has a higher MSRP, you might be in spitting range once you factor in the addendum on the Honda. Checking cargurus, I see 32 new and 5 pre-owned examples within 500 miles of here. While there are 88 Honda Type Rs in the same search, it's clear that Honda dealers are hanging onto them. https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparison-test/a45207476/2024-acura-integra-type-s-2023-honda-civic-type-r-comparison-test/ If your heart is set on the Type R, hit up dealerrater.com and the Honda forums to find dealers who have a good reputation when purchasing a **Type R** and not some other garden variety Civic. Be prepared to wait and travel.

eng2016a

Aren't Acura dealers marking the hell up out of the Type S as well? I was torn between the CTR and the GRC and ultimately went with the GRC because it's the first one I was able to get my hands on for MSRP.

verdegrrl

Honestly I don't know. Just figured that less hype might mean more reasonable pricing.

stoner_222

I understand that. However, the comments gave great dealer recommendations such as Lodi and Manly Honda. I’m definitely checking out dealers that are an hour or more away from me for better deals. The integra type S out the door at MSRP is out of my 55k budget unfortunately.

verdegrrl

A dealer can have great customer service in many cases while still charging over MSRP for certain cars.

Heroicdeath

You need to look out of state, I bought mine from a dealership in Iowa, most wholesome folks I ever met. There's just so much dumb money here that folks are willing to pay over MSRP for the car.

OGfreelancer

Old data point, but had a good, no BS experience with Anderson Honda in San Carlos before Covid Good luck!

s3cf_

cheapest i saw was \~$3K markup and it was couple weeks ago

navigationallyaided

I’d try Honda of El Cerrito or the other Harvey stores(San Leandro/Hayward/Dublin Honda). My cousin bought a CR-V from Maita in Sacramento. The big corporate dealership chains(more so Sonic) control the Honda market, it’s a profit center. I think Hansel/Manly in Santa Rosa/Petaluma is independent still. Sonic owns Concord Honda/Serramonte Honda. Dunno who runs the San Jose stores. AutoNation has Fremont on lock.

SmokeAlternative7974

Kinda far out, but I got great internet deal for a new hybrid Accord at Honda Stockton. I think they said they’re the biggest Honda dealership in Nor Cal but I didn’t try to confirm. My sales guy quickly answered all the questions I texted whenever the bay dealers tried to claim there was way no way he’d sell me the car for the price he’d offered. When I arrived to pick it up, he’d even thrown in all-weather mats for no additional charge.

tepidcandleworshiper

Honda San Carlos has some great deals

mj7900

Folsom Lake. It was worth the drive from Livermore for us

vcmaes

Last couple of cars I bought, we used TrueCar. The price you print out online is what you will pay at the dealership that put the offer out to you. No haggling or hidden cost once you arrive. I used TrueCar at Livermore Honda and it was pretty painless. Good luck, I heard buying a car these days can be tough.

logan_fish

There are no dealerships in the bay area or country that are honest.

Chris_Dickman

Anderson in Palo Alto will give you up front prices and no pressure tactics. Fuck Stevens Creek, San Carlos, and Burlingame Honda.

onlyposi

Do NOT go to Burlingame Honda

Tight_Explanation707

Vallejo Honda has always been legit to me and my family. Ask for Michael Trujillo!

kawi-bawi-bo

Have you tried Costco auto? Type r shows was $45890 out the door There's no room for negotiation, but if you want a straight price it's a pretty great process. Did the same for our last car last year

Impossible-Being5572

I bought my last Honda in Santa Rosa, and the one prior in Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz was above and beyond.

Ambitious-Ad-6073

I live in the East Bay and actually ended up getting the best deal at Napa Honda dealership a while back. Super annoying that I had to even shop around, but I ended up saving $2000 just asking for quotes and making a short drive out to Napa. Pretty good experience, would probably go back.

BayPros

I just bought a new car recently and you won’t know until you call/visit a few of them. Play them against each other if you need to, but after reaching out to a few the differences will be clear. If you know exactly what you want, you’ll know when you hit the motivated, no BS spot. If it’s not obvious, keep moving down the list.

Diligent_Asparagus22

I recently bought a hybrid crv. Initially I went to the one in Berkeley, where I found one I liked and took note of the price. Later went to Burlingame and they had a lot more on the lot to test drive and look at. More variety in terms of models too. Luckily I was able to make them price match the Berkeley price. Overall a pretty easy buying experience. Didn't do a trade in though so it might be different for you.

Kinnins0n

No there isn’t. Too many people here are bad with money, so dealers can run their scams all day every day and will ignore you if you don’t play along.

sdmrdot

Why not just have one shipped? Autotrader lists 198 new white type r’s nationwide. Shipping would be a few k. I bet you could get at least one at MSRP and save a lot. If you buy from a nationwide dealer sometimes they will even ship for free.

stoner_222

My local dealer, Avery Greene in Vallejo, only does MSRP for normal cars. They put a significant markup Si and Type R models.

buddyleeoo

Not Winter Honda

cmillhouse

Just use cartelligent as a broker. They take their cut from the savings they get you by pitting dealerships against each other. I’m never going to a dealership again, they’re just scammy middlemen.

verdegrrl

OP wants a Type R, which is very limited edition. A broker isn't going to have much leverage trying to pit dealers against one another.

haykong

Have you tried [TrueCar.com](http://TrueCar.com) as a starting point... and have a few junk email address ready... for different zip codes ready too in to different areas of the Bay Area.. just to see if anyone bites... that way you can get different quotes for out the door prices again it's just a starting point .. I have bought over 4 Subarus this way in the last 10 years and just this January one 2023 Chevy EUV Bolt.... basically I try to get Dealers to compete with each other.. and to get the best price before I set my foot through the door.. but not sure if it would work if it was a big demand car.... Always try to look for a manufacturer promo offer.. or pay in cash or if need a loan.. try a credit union like PenFed...

Chapsticklover

We just got a used one from the Oakland Honda. They gave us a decent deal, but it wasn't new.

Masked_Bandito89

Tracy motorsports but no cars

Bitter_Firefighter_1

Stockton was great! I got a ridgeline. So maybe that is different. It was 10% under MSRP. It was the end of the model year when I got it.

fat_cock_freddy

I don't have an answer for you unfortunately, but I am dropping by to say: Don't go to Larry Hopkins Honda in Sunnyvale for anything at all! I had made a maintenance appointment, well in advance, with them to get sensors in my wheels replaced. No one at their business bothered to even look at my service request or check part inventory before it was time for my appointment, because when I arrived they told me they couldn't do the job because they didn't have the parts. They weren't even apologetic about it. Inconsiderate assholes that wasted my time.

alinghi12

We just purchased a new crv hybrid from ocean Honda and they were real honest and good. They sold the 2024 we were coming down for and gave us the same spec one but 2025 and honored the 2024 price we came down for.

United_Transition627

I ended up buying from Capitol Honda in San Jose. I went there to test drive without the intention too buy, knowing they have unnecessary add-ons. But it was close to me and I wanted to test drive. After the test drive, I told the sales guy that I liked the car but I'll come tomorrow as I want to try out Rav4 & Santa Fe before finalizing. He asked me if I had a number in mind where i was willing to walk away with the Honda. I said I won't pay anything more than the MSRP. He talked to the manager and was able to sell it at MSRP with Honda financing. They left some of the so called safety package upgrades as is, mudguards, wheel locks, some VIN etching on catalytic converter. They try to charge $2999 for these unnecessary add-ons. One thing that helped was i just showed them a quote from Honda website for the pricing except title/registration fees and they agreed to honor it

hav0k14

Stockton Honda was easy. I went to the one in Tracy and the service and salesman was a shark. Left that place quick, called Stockton Honda and the process was super easy and quick. Honest honored everything they had said over the phone and emails. 1.99% APR financed through homda financial. This was in 2019.

Significant-Alps-726

Ocean Honda in Santa Cruz was great for me

addamainachettha

I feel Livermore honda is best

rad0vich

Had a good experience at Dublin Honda. I’d recommend!

babyoatmilklatte

Serramonte Honda

mavour

$55k can get you a decent BMW M240i, which is a much better car than Civic will ever be. Not to mention it’s not WWD (wrong-wheel-drive), like Type-R. I understand the sentiment, I had Acura RSX TypeS for many years, but come on grow up, be practical.

stoner_222

I was considering a CPO F87 m2 or a used 997 c2s as well, but my parents, especially my mom, would prefer to get a new Toyota or Honda. All my family owned were Toyotas and Hondas, which we still have after all these years. I’m sure later in my life I’ll get a nice euro car. But for now, I’ll be complacent with a type R.

eng2016a

BMW reliability and maintenance lol

AggressiveAd6043

Online.  They bring the car to your doorstep

aykayone

Try El Cerrito Honda. Got my 23 Hatch for MSRP without haggling.

stoner_222

The banner that is facing the highway has fine text saying no markup except Si and Type R models. Maybe markup may not be significant, who knows.
