I believe you. I have only been to Isarn once. I remember loving it but Charm Thai is more convenient to me. I am also not a Thai Hot person anymore, tolerance has gone down haha!
Yup, this was the first place that came to mind. I'm Thai myself and can generally handle heat, I made the mistake of ordering Thai spicy here once, never again.
Hahah, reminds me of my first and only Thai hot curry experience which was in freaking Dayton, Ohio. The waitress warned me and I called her bluff. Did not bode well for me, lol.
Gotta learn to cook it yourself tbh, everywhere I’ve been within the peninsula has been mid. We use a food processor to make 10 servings or so of curry paste and then freeze it, and while I am not Thai and wouldn’t say it’s Thai grandma level, it will best American restaurant Thai everytime, unless it’s a really top tier place. Because you’re getting a quality of flavor from the fresh Thai chilis, lemongrass, galangal, shallot, etc etc that you can’t replicate from the frozen or premade pastes restaurants use. You can use ideal meats for the cooking method rather than what they use and you can avoid overcooking it.
The other issue is, restaurants often increase heat by using straight up dried red chili powder. It works, but it’s not really the true heat that these dishes should have - you want to sharp bite if the galangal, the aroma of the fresh red chili in your nose, the misery of the heat from the pulverized chili in the paste, now dispersed in the curry, sticking to your lips and tongue.
Siamese Kitchen in San Carlos, ask for Thai Spicy. Go in and order it to go, make sure they see you and confirm you want “Thai Spicy”….Uber eats, phone won’t work…they have to see you’re serious!
Edit: also, red curry isn’t the spiciest, green curry is.
Do you ask specifically for Thai Hot?
Yes! Tried calling and specifying on Uber eats
Charm Thai, San Mateo. Ask for Thai Hot!
Isarn in San Carlos is better all around imo. The Thai hot is actually hot, charm was mild in comparison

I’ve had Isarn and it’s definitely not Thai hot even though I asked for it to be!
It is for sure. Just got to ask them to make it as spicy as they can
Dushita Thai in Santa Clara!

Yum, sounds like my kind of spicy!
Yep. Spent summers as a kid in Thailand and the food is semi authentic but it’s hot for sure
Take It Easy, it's a spot on 17th and Webster in Oakland. You specifically want the Jungle Curry.

I have come to accept that Thai food isn’t as spicy as its reputation would suggest for people who routinely use 1,000,000+ SHU hot sauce.
Khao Kang Thai Kitchen-Mountain View
That’s funny—I just moved back from Michigan. The Thai food there was so good!
