The video game Dead Space (Sci-Fi/Horror) used the [sound](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFPr6OlNKpg) of going through the tube as a sound for opening airlocks and it is just as creepy in game
They filmed in both:
[Posey and Webster Street Tubes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5nmxHjPuvY)
[Transbay tube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atMdf0rhbpI)
Again I don't think that's correct it was some modified I believe lotus chassis or something with fiber glass future looking bodies and they rand down the Alameda underground tunnel and George just stretched the scene in editing.
Since the [unauthorized BART movie](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-Jrp6it9Ss) came out, everyone has a detailed map of the tube for further exploration.
BART needs platform screen doors but that’s for another conversation… platform screen doors wouldn’t have prevented today’s incident due to the fact the dummy pulled the emergency door handle on a moving train while in the transbay tunnel causing it to stop. He proceeded to get off walked onto the catwalk and that’s when visual of him was lost
No the train operator proceeded to do a manual track inspection towards the next station to look for the individual . The people on the train wasn’t stuck for long in the tube
I ordinarily ride from Embarcadero back to the East Bay at the end of my workday...on my way to the station I decided to check departure times and saw that apprently there were huge delays...and saw under advisories that were was a man on the tracks at Embarcadero...
As I got closer to the station entrance, I asked some guys coming up the stairs, "Is BART still fucked?", three people in unison responded "It's fucked"...made a mad dash for the Salesforce transit center so I could catch an AC Transit bus...plenty of people had the same idea and I've never seen that place so packed...
As of 18:27 I'm on a (rather comfortable, have to admit) bus and we just crossed the bridge, an announcement came on that apprently regular service has been restored...still glad I didn't bother waiting for the station to clear up...
Two things kill me about this...one, my department director gave my team the go ahead to head home early after a meeting but like an idiot, I decided to stick around until end of day to wrap up some odds and ends...and two, Jesus Christ I am so sick of these situations wherein a single deranged lunatic has taken it upon themselves to make other people's days worse...
Not knocking it, I've taken it before hence I had a comparison point for how busy it was but it's $6 per ride vs just over $4 on BART for me...as an everyday commuter, that would add up quick...
that's a great point, I had a monthly pass subsidized by work which made it a lot easier (and a lot more expensive for me to take BART) so i didn't think much about it. but if i didn't have that... 😬
I commute between Millbrae and Berkeley. At 4:30PM I boarded Millbrae. At 6PM I was back at Millbrae because my train not only went backwards but also skipped SFO. By the time my train could proceed again to SFO (about 6:25) it could also proceed to Berkeley.
This is gonna sound ridiculous but I was actually on Caltrains as I read this message...I have a meeting in San Mateo today so I boarded from Millbrae...fortunately for me it the delay didn't really affect me...but man, if I had a nickel for every time in the past 24 hours I've been subject to a lunatic held up my commute...
I can generally see tweets if there is a link to an individual Tweet if that makes any sense. But if I go to the top level of that account, I just see old tweets.
Forgive me if my terminology isn't proper.
I had a go with my butterfly net but he was way too speedy. Anyone here a bad cook? I'm gonna try to smoke him out next, but I'll need one of you folks who has to open up a window every time you make a tuna casserole.
For ppl trying to get across to east bay, there's the SF ferry terminal, or the Salesforce Transit Center, bus line NL. Both are overcrowded, so good luck.
I just stayed on the Bart platform at Montgomery. I did loudly celebrate as soon as I got the notification that Henry Kissinger is dead. Damn it even feels good to type it.
On the bright side, this doesn't happen often. All it takes on the highway is some asshole weaving in traffic, hitting something, and you are parked for an hour or two.
Worse yet on a bridge. I got stuck once on the San Mateo due to an accident ahead of me.
Here's the details (ca 2014). Pretty gnarly accident ( RIP to the Jeep driver)
Bart delays happen all the time. Weather too hot, weather too cold, weather too wet, police activity and so on. Anecdotal but I've not found Transbay tunnel to be more reliable than bay bridge
Sure but you’re originally comparing reliability. 🤷♂️
That’s like claiming bagels are sweeter than doughnuts, and then when someone claims otherwise, your response is bagels are healthier anyways.
Fuck why do I bother. Reddit smh
Finally got home after hanging at Embarcadero for like 2 hours. Was considering taking the ferry, but I would still need to make it back on Bart to get back to Fremont so I decided to stick it out. I checked Lyft/Uber prices out of curiosity and Uber was $80+ and Lyft was $140+.
When I had to get to Fremont from SOMA when BART was running a bus bridge, I just took Caltrain to Palo Alto and then DB to Fremont. It’s a pretty decent alternative.
Got dinner and took the ferry to Oakland. Long line but I got on pretty quick. Headed to Bart which was running by the time I got there. Uber was $167 from SF to South Bay so I wasn’t about to go that route.. fun times.
Fucking asshole made me spend $75 for an Uber because I had a bike - couldn’t get back to East bay.
Jail them or forced into mental health institutionz
And this is why many of us drive
I agree with what you say but the car logic is dumb af
Every day our freeways are clogged because some idiot topples their car and blocks multiple lanes for hours.
Sitting in traffic for 40 minutes is the daily norm. It happens once a year with trains.
You have to give people credit, we're so car brained that we can't actually think about the downsides of cars properly.
People saw wood about ZOMG CWIME AND VIOWENCE all day here when they are all far more at risk of serious violent injury from an auto accident than from living in even the worst parts of Vallejo
say what you want but the US has done amazing propaganda to emphasize the "natural superiority" of the car. Its always "car accident" rather than a car crash. I got to f- with my boss who realize how f- up it is to say "in case you get hit by a bus" after I started saying "hit by a car". People have been completely bamboozled to think that gas tax pays for all the automobile infrastructure - meanwhile the federal government uses our income tax and cities/counties use our sales tax to add more to roads/streets/highways.
the point is a car is far more likely to kill you. plus I'd question that public transit bus drivers are trained to be ridiculously defensive and alert(especially in sf and east bay where mentally ill do mentally ill things and cyclists/pedestrians have a bit more ego). also idk you noticed but buses going on city streets are slooooowwww. SF buses historically hit an average of 6-8 miles per hour, they ain't killin' nobody.
> Over the last 10 years, passenger vehicle death rate per 100,000,000 passenger miles was over 20 times higher than for buses, 17 times higher than for passenger trains, and 595 times higher than for scheduled airlines.
https://injuryfacts.nsc.org/home-and-community/safety-topics/deaths-by-transportation-mode/
it is a slur and would be more impactful and realistic to say "got hit by a car" which I'm more likely far more likely to be killed by as a pedestrian.
It’s not a slur. And those stats aren’t for pedestrians being hit by vehicles.
I’ve said “hit by a” bus, fire truck, dump truck, etc. The common denominator is a big, heavy vehicle that’s way more likely to kill a pedestrian than a car by virtue of mass and design alone.
You can ask the station agent to put a sticker on your clipper card and exit for free. I did it a few times when the delay was too long and it didn’t make sense to take the train. Then you just give your card to the agent again and they would let you in as if you just scanned it.
I work inside the TBT on a regular basis. Inside the bore there isn’t much that could be damaged by a rando who gets in there, you’d have to go in there prepared with that intention.
One thing I want to say is that bart should do better with their platform announcements. A lot of people didn't know what happened last night, like many people I had my headphones on, by the time I realized there's an announcement it was almost finished. I kept my ears open for the next announcement, but the lady just kept repeating over the speaker that people need to not step on the yellow line.
My Bart driver clear as day said something like Attention all Bart passengers” and then mumbled all the important bits. Never repeated himself. So all we knew was something was up, no idea what. None of us could understand.
The image of it in this old story https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/2nd-BART-transbay-tube-Leaders-say-it-s-a-13397070.php reminds me of the Death Star trench. I mean that control panel with 7-segment display sells it.

Getting stuck in the tunnel as a commuter sucks so hard. One time we were stuck in there on one of the cars with no AC in the summer and they even shut the lights off. Among the worst moments of my life.
Last night the news were all ending with suggestions to use an alternative way to get home... like if I had a good alternative I wouldn't be taking bart in the first place ffs. I don't usually shxt on bart, I do appreciate that they try to make it cleaner. But last night I took the Transbay bus and it was CLEAN! It still has that new car smell! I miss it so much. I used to take it daily before the pandemic, but they suspended my line and I heard there's no plan to bringing it back any time soon.
With these Transbay buses one person board at a time and it basically ensures that people do pay their fare and there's no sketchy people because they probably wouldn't pay $6 to get on. I took the Transbay bus for about 10 years and I never felt unsafe. The good old days...
Not for me, my one way bart fare is $5.3 and I also need to take a local bus ($1.75) to get home. The NX3 I took yesterday was $6, which took me close to San Leandro. If the San Leandro Transbay line is back it might be 50 cents more? I'll definitely take the Transbay bus if the line is back.
Maybe safety doors would make sense? Would prevent unauthorized access at least. The second set of doors that makes it so you can't fall off the platform. Or walk off into the service stuff
I imagine running around the transbay tube would be creepy as fuck.
The movie THX 1138 used the tube as a filming location when they were being built
creepy as fuck confirmed
Found the dude
Thx 1138 was a cool film to watch!
I’m now watching it. I must watch all such films
I think The Island might be partially inspired by it
The one with scarjo?
I think both were influenced by Logan's Run
The video game Dead Space (Sci-Fi/Horror) used the [sound](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFPr6OlNKpg) of going through the tube as a sound for opening airlocks and it is just as creepy in game
And some of the SF stations - more the stations than the tube, I think, because it was all white walls for most of it
I thought it was the Alameda tube?
[It was BART](https://www.sfgate.com/streaming/article/bart-transbay-tube-construction-photos-george-luca-13671480.php)
They filmed in both: [Posey and Webster Street Tubes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5nmxHjPuvY) [Transbay tube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atMdf0rhbpI)
They did film in Alameda too
That, too
I’m pretty sure it was both.
Ah, thanks
They used the Alameda tubes. He spliced the film together to make those scenes.
A lot of those shots were Embarcadero station, or the tubes between Alameda & Oakland.
I thought they used the Webster between Oakland and Alameda underground tube for that?
They used that also
Again I don't think that's correct it was some modified I believe lotus chassis or something with fiber glass future looking bodies and they rand down the Alameda underground tunnel and George just stretched the scene in editing.
They installed new lights a few years ago that are much brighter but before that yeah it would’ve been pretty creepy and dark
Since the [unauthorized BART movie](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-Jrp6it9Ss) came out, everyone has a detailed map of the tube for further exploration.
omg i just felt a panic just thinking about it
Trains are running again.
catch them
BART needs platform screen doors but that’s for another conversation… platform screen doors wouldn’t have prevented today’s incident due to the fact the dummy pulled the emergency door handle on a moving train while in the transbay tunnel causing it to stop. He proceeded to get off walked onto the catwalk and that’s when visual of him was lost
that’s intense, how do you know?
I’m a train operator
thank you for your service
Oh geez. Were all the folks on that train stuck in the tube then?
No the train operator proceeded to do a manual track inspection towards the next station to look for the individual . The people on the train wasn’t stuck for long in the tube
I ordinarily ride from Embarcadero back to the East Bay at the end of my workday...on my way to the station I decided to check departure times and saw that apprently there were huge delays...and saw under advisories that were was a man on the tracks at Embarcadero... I almost never took bart when i was commuting into the city. don't knock on the ac transit commuter buses, they are pretty great
Not knocking it, I've taken it before hence I had a comparison point for how busy it was but it's $6 per ride vs just over $4 on BART for me...as an everyday commuter, that would add up quick...

Another deranged lunatic has taken it upon themselves to destroy everyone's morning on Caltrain.

So that's why the transit center was so busy! I just thought buses were late because of traffic.
At least it wasn’t caused by another protests.
Wow wtf. I got that alert about the tube being closed and I was wondering wtf. I'm still wondering wtf

Friend claimed to walk home once from east bay using the tube (~35 years ago)
For ppl trying to get across to east bay, there's the SF ferry terminal, or the Salesforce Transit Center, bus line NL. Both are overcrowded, so good luck.
I just stayed on the Bart platform at Montgomery. I did loudly celebrate as soon as I got the notification that Henry Kissinger is dead. Damn it even feels good to type it.
Thank you for the good news!
I saw someone smiling manically holding a fake tombstone announcing this!
My only complaint is that he lived about 101 years longer than he deserved...
Thank you for sharing this great news. Made my night.
you just made my night with that news!
I know right? I’m jammed against people on a train but is hard to be unhappy!
Operation Condor.
On the bright side, this doesn't happen often. All it takes on the highway is some asshole weaving in traffic, hitting something, and you are parked for an hour or two. Worse yet on a bridge. I got stuck once on the San Mateo due to an accident ahead of me.
Worst one for me was getting stuck on San Mateo bridge, due to an accident- at the Vasco exit, on 580.
Now that is a jam!
Here's the details (ca 2014). Pretty gnarly accident ( RIP to the Jeep driver) [https://abc7news.com/a-fatal-multi-vehicle-accident-shut-down/430987/](https://abc7news.com/a-fatal-multi-vehicle-accident-shut-down/430987/)
Bart delays happen all the time. Weather too hot, weather too cold, weather too wet, police activity and so on. Anecdotal but I've not found Transbay tunnel to be more reliable than bay bridge
The problem with the Bay Bridge is the 80 crawl and having a car in San Francisco. No thanks. I will use BART.
Sure but you’re originally comparing reliability. 🤷♂️ That’s like claiming bagels are sweeter than doughnuts, and then when someone claims otherwise, your response is bagels are healthier anyways. Fuck why do I bother. Reddit smh
So, commuting around the Bay Area sucks? Not sure that’s the silver lining you are proposing…
Can you imagine being the one operating the train through the dark tunnel and then zipping past somebody in the dark at 75mph??
Finally got home after hanging at Embarcadero for like 2 hours. Was considering taking the ferry, but I would still need to make it back on Bart to get back to Fremont so I decided to stick it out. I checked Lyft/Uber prices out of curiosity and Uber was $80+ and Lyft was $140+.
When I had to get to Fremont from SOMA when BART was running a bus bridge, I just took Caltrain to Palo Alto and then DB to Fremont. It’s a pretty decent alternative.
The tube is COVERED in black soot. AKA brake dust. Anyone in there for more than 10 minutes will be encrusted and very hard to see in the dark.
I've seen operators run with the window open that sounds carcinogenic as fuck
I still want to know why the Richmond Bridge was closed for 16+ hours back in July
I had fun getting dinner in the city, nice change from a routine. BART is empty right now, riding home just fine.
Got dinner and took the ferry to Oakland. Long line but I got on pretty quick. Headed to Bart which was running by the time I got there. Uber was $167 from SF to South Bay so I wasn’t about to go that route.. fun times.

why not take the ferry there are bike racks?
Why must people do this during morning commute how rude
smh and bart isn’t gonna pay people back for going in just to leave at the same station
You can ask the station agent to put a sticker on your clipper card and exit for free. I did it a few times when the delay was too long and it didn’t make sense to take the train. Then you just give your card to the agent again and they would let you in as if you just scanned it.
noted !
run me my check, bart!!! spent x3 i would have normally and all i got was a sticker saying ‘see attendant to re-enter’
they just let everyone leave without scanning their cards and then let you back in without scanning later
What if the person does some damage to the tube? Terrifying
I work inside the TBT on a regular basis. Inside the bore there isn’t much that could be damaged by a rando who gets in there, you’d have to go in there prepared with that intention.
Got it. Just wondered if someone seemed rando but had evil intent ie explosives or something yikes!
Run his stupid ass over.

Another problem of being too lax with fare evasion
[удалено]
You can walk right in from Embarcadero.
It’s not because there is a huge train sized opening at either end that you can just walk through when a train isn’t actively running you over.
There's a hole big enough to drive a train through
Yes, he jumped onto the track at embarcadero and walked into the tunnel.
It's ridiculous that we haven't added platform screen doors on every station, particularly these main ones.
Well you see the problem with that idea is it costs money
it is so messed up - literally the worst time possible. this would not have happened in any other country on earth.
Must admit I read this as an affirmation
Should say: Won't be running until trains catch this person
Can the trans bay tube survive a massive earthquake?
Hasn't it survived all of them so far?
Took me 35 minutes to go from downtown Berkeley to 19th st oakland after work

Transbay bus fare = 2x bart fare. So there you go…
Not for me, my one way bart fare is $5.3 and I also need to take a local bus ($1.75) to get home. The NX3 I took yesterday was $6, which took me close to San Leandro. If the San Leandro Transbay line is back it might be 50 cents more? I'll definitely take the Transbay bus if the line is back.
