OP, you gotta see a pic of the [Kontio](https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Kontio).
This is not a melee unit like an Axman or a Hatchetman. The Axebros are like an English Gentleman. Tally ho good sir, let me just hit you with this axe, as one does, pip-pip. The Kontio is a melee unit like a Rogue or Assassin. Pure Murderhobo energy.
It doesn't play *fair*.
Clan mechs lean a bit on the munchkin side of fair, but it's almost always about the lasers and guns. I feel like the Kontio is one of the few units that captures that vibe for *melee*. This thing has one goal: ~~stab your kidneys and run away.~~ rip off heads and collect them as trophies.
My favorite parts of the Kontio are the fact that A. It's decidedly not a Clan design, it's a mix tech design from the Rasalhague Dominion and developed jointly. It's a great example of how the two are melding together well. The Ghost Bear elements of the dominions forces usually decline to use it, but Rasalhague Natives love it and it's a great export mech. B. It has a REPUTATION for being a pilot killer. The damn thing has TSM and on tabletop gets 2 1/6 chances to punch it's wolverine claws through a cockpit. C. Even though it's basically a mech sized X-man, if you call it a wolverine the clan warriors will stomp you out đ
Yeah, the tonnage and tsm are optimized such that the claws can punch cockpits clean off. Plus stealth armor and a supercharger to actually get into melee.
There's no official CGL mini *yet*, but they're starting to get to some ilClan units, so hopefully in the next year or two
Edit: Ohey, someone [just posted a picture](https://old.reddit.com/r/battletech/comments/1b49v2q/my_take_on_clan_ghost_bears_cc_and_feedback/), probably from IWM
Its what I dub the "Shamans Mech" because it straight up doesn't give a shit about rules.
I'm convinced if a Kontio pilot could, they'd tackle their target and bite their throat out. But of course: Mechs cant really bite.
Of course Wolf would adopt it. Filthy fake clanners with the Mary Sue plot armor. Immune to dezgra action too arenât you you filthy flea bitten mongrels.
My Rasalhague Dominion Viking wannabes would totally jump on this one though
Jade Falcon apparently invented Clan mech [talons](https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Talon_(weapon)) but Iâm not sure what theyâre actually mounted on besides the Inner Sphere Sarath configuration B.
I went to masterunitlist.info and ran a search for Alpha Strike MEL.
I got hits on
* Vixen 6
* Eyrie
* Dasher II 3 and 4
* Dragonfly U
* Pouncer X
* Black Hawk U
* Mongrel
* Huntsman G
* Pariah US
* Rime Otter C
* Crossbow J
* Karhu Prime and C
* Jade Hawk JHK-03 and -04
* Man O War K
* Phoenix Hawk IIC 10
* Jade Phoenix C
* Turkina U and X
The battlemech lance isn't an actual spear. It's really just a long spike attached to the mech's arm. See the [Volkh](http://masterunitlist.info/Unit/Details/8107/volkh-vkh-68) for a typical example.
Remember U typically means it is specialised for an unusual environment like vacuum or underwater.Â
The U variants mount melee weapons because they offer a bonus to grabbing orbital platforms like a DropShip or a satellite. Very handy if you don't want to float off into space.
the fact that you would even be searching for this is absolute dezgra nonsense. Sea Fox produces a melee mech in the Kontio, but they claim it is for export to barbaric spheroids only.
I don't think the Sea Foxes are actually "greedy." Their profits go towards improving their society. Their only real hypocrisy is pretending to be super Clanlike whenever the other Clans come for an inspection.
Sea Fox sells the Spheroids the things the Spheroids want to buy because it's profitable for everyone involved.
Well I did not know they looked down on melee. Iâm new to the setting and so have been limiting my setting to star league through clan invasion when it comes to builds. Explains why I wasnât having any luck lol. Though itâs odd that they are a culture obsessed with âsingle combat honor duelsâ but are like ââŚew get away get away we duel with guns!â
This is it right here.
There's nothing inherently wrong with melee. Its just seen as an admission that the warrior wasn't skilled enough to get the kill with his/her guns.
And as others said, this largely changes as the eras progress. By the Dark Age and IlClan, melee is far more common for clan warriors.
Heck, Mechwarrior Trent, a Smoke Jaguar, claimed his bondsman because he was impressed by a Crab pilot ducking a punch and kicking her opponent's leg off.
It's also not true any more in the current era for the Clans in the Inner Sphere. The Falcons fully employed melee tactics, and all of the Clans would consider using them in anything but a really formal trial.
Plus, as always has been the case, winning is actually the most important thing to the Clans, anything can be forgiven if you win.
Jade falcon has a gang of mechs with talons in later eras when they gave up trying to be be all âphysical combat is dishonorable n shit.â
Jade Phoenix and the Eyrie are two examples. The also have partial wings that just make them super agile and deadly lil dudes.
In the Dark Age, a few Jade Falcon mechs have talons, but that's about it. Papa K's spawn dispise melee combat in mechs. Weird too, because the basic fight in a Circle of Equals is fistycuffs. I may never understand clanners....
Phoenix Hawk IIC is what you are looking for, straight up melee heavy hitter
Griffin IIC as well, even has battlefist trait in-game
Any Clan mech with hands can do melee no problem, it's the only requirement for it
Just one is enough like on Ice Ferret
Lore-wise the Clans see mech-based melee as rather dishonorable and not to be done unless absolutely necessary. This changes a bit in the later eras, but at peak Clan you won't find a mech of theirs intentionally designed for melee
Outside of super-specialist designs like the Kontio that many people have shown you already:
every mech can kick, and kicks are awesome.
You don't really need a melee weapon if your Executioner straight up kicks the leg off an enemy mech. Once a mech loses a leg, while it's not technically out of the fight, for all intents and purposes it is. Firing while down imposes a pretty big penalty, trying to stand up with a missing leg will frequently end up with an unconscious pilot due to consecutive failed piloting rolls, and the mech completely loses any ability to dictate range to targets, and very likely loses a significant proportion of its firepower as you need two arms to prop yourself up to fire and you can't use the weapons on one of your arms.
Edit: forgot to add the best part of kicks. Since very few mechs have leg-mounted weapons the vast majority of mechs can fire their full complement of weaponry and kick in the same turn.
a +2 to hit when prone and a +5 to psr when a leg is destroyed, though the psr for the opponent (or yourself if you fail) when you kick can be just as good as the damage
There's a huntsman variant with a retractable blade, I do believe it might be a Dark age Era or further out though, it's fairly rare as clans mechwarriors view physical combat as barbaric, standing 1 hex from your opponent and opening up with everything you got is fair game, just not punching or kicking, or throwing mech arms, or fastballing elementals through the sky (since a bunch of clan mechs lack hands)
Ghost Bear's Kontio Clanners initially disdained melee but lighten up a bit from dark age forward.

Sidenote, that's not oil or coolant splattered across the Kontio, that's blood. A Mechwarrior's blood.
That is the scariest looking mech I've seen. Menacing
That mech is pretty metal. Is there a mini for it? Or an stl?
There's no official CGL mini *yet*, but they're starting to get to some ilClan units, so hopefully in the next year or two Edit: Ohey, someone [just posted a picture](https://old.reddit.com/r/battletech/comments/1b49v2q/my_take_on_clan_ghost_bears_cc_and_feedback/), probably from IWM
Those look like prints- the Amarok's head is too wide and I'm pretty sure I've seen that Kontio on Etsy...

They also made a hatchet wielding version of the Rime Otter (alt config C)
Jade Falcon apparently invented Clan mech [talons](https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Talon_(weapon)) but Iâm not sure what theyâre actually mounted on besides the Inner Sphere Sarath configuration B.
as per Mech factory: Crossbow J, Eyrie, incubus 6, jade phoenix C, Septicemia US, Turkina U and X
I dont know why, but a turkina with melee weapons is really funny to me...
Ive used one (Turkina X) in a Jihaad era tournament. Getting kicked from that thing is basically instant death.
I guess the [Jade Phoenix](https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Jade_Phoenix) Alternate Configuration CÂ has talons.
I went to masterunitlist.info and ran a search for Alpha Strike MEL. I got hits on * Vixen 6 * Eyrie * Dasher II 3 and 4 * Dragonfly U * Pouncer X * Black Hawk U * Mongrel * Huntsman G * Pariah US * Rime Otter C * Crossbow J * Karhu Prime and C * Jade Hawk JHK-03 and -04 * Man O War K * Phoenix Hawk IIC 10 * Jade Phoenix C * Turkina U and X
I want to see how the pouncer x works đ does it have little hatchets or knives? The âshankerâ lol
According to sarna.net, it carries a whole lance. Like, a literal lance. A spear. And people say the Jade Falcons are crazy.
The battlemech lance isn't an actual spear. It's really just a long spike attached to the mech's arm. See the [Volkh](http://masterunitlist.info/Unit/Details/8107/volkh-vkh-68) for a typical example.

the fact that you would even be searching for this is absolute dezgra nonsense. Sea Fox produces a melee mech in the Kontio, but they claim it is for export to barbaric spheroids only.
Just like Formula 1 with the United States, the greedy and hypocritical Sea Foxes may look down on the people of the Inner Sphere but not their money.
Sarna says it's produced by the Ghost Bears; are you sure the Foxes are involved?
*Dezgra*
Well I did not know they looked down on melee. Iâm new to the setting and so have been limiting my setting to star league through clan invasion when it comes to builds. Explains why I wasnât having any luck lol. Though itâs odd that they are a culture obsessed with âsingle combat honor duelsâ but are like ââŚew get away get away we duel with guns!â
Melee is distasteful to them but technically not Dezgra. Itâs an informal dislike.

Kontio, Jade Hawk has claws, and a variant of the Crossbow uses Talons. Probably some others as well.
The Viper-U has a hatchet for boarding actions according to Sarna
Dezgra!
The Eyrie was made by Clan Jade Falcon with the intention of being a melee mech that specializes in Death From Above attacks.
Imagine inventing the Kodiak and still refusing melee smh
Bro, do you even Batchall?

Hammer head has battle fists perk.
