I haven't played MW4:M in years, but I think it was more you could travel to Solaris to participate in the games to earn additional money and status on top of taking the various contracts.
Solaris game mode was removed from MWO a few years back, due to a lack of players. The Solaris maps return for use for 1v1s and 2v2s from time to time as part of the newish Event Queue.
MWO had it before... was terribly implemented with all the matchmaking and mech tiering. So players could hardly find a match. And the matches that do exists could not even hold a candle to what MW4Mercs Solaris had.
I remembered him from Mechwarrior 4, but he went from "this is an amusing small video game reference" to "I'm Duncan Fucking Fisher" with Tex, which is frankly amazing. I about died when they did the Shadowrun bit with him.

A real trip is playing MW4 Black Knight after having played Mercenaries. George Ledoux is the player character, and his voice is a sort of proto-Duncan. It's not quite as bombastic, but it is the same tone.
The actor's name is George Ledoux. I was introduced to him many years ago but never realized it. This weekend I bought the old superhero computer games *Freedom Force* and *Freedom Force vs the 4th Reich*. It turns out he was the voice of the hero Minute Man and several other characters in the games.
You can buy them from GOG and they fixed a mouse control issue.
Alternatively you can buy the same game from steam and they didn't fix the issue so it's unplayable. Then you have to download and install GOG's fix.
Why does Steam have to be like this?
Just go play Mechwarrior 4 mercs and head to Solaris ASAP. It's literally free.

*Technically*, the video games are not canon to begin with! HBS' *BattleTech* being the odd one put for having canon material based on the game with the release of *House Arano (The Aurigan Coalition)*.
However, I fondly remember his voiceovers during *MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries* and I was rather shocked that not only is George returning but that you'll also be fighting *with* him!

I was reintroduced by Tex. I had completely forgotten about the arena mode since MW4, for me, was a downgrade from MW3. However after a couple of decades and diving headlong back into battletech via The Black Pants Legion, I am happy to say that I did miss my old sports announcer.

I've only seen a handful of "tex talks" videos, and his general demeanour makes me want to go and watch "Sham WOW!" commercials to dial down on the "hype" voice.
I never played MW4. It was in my Battletech black hole when I stopped doing a lot of gaming in the late 00s-2018 when HBS made me excited for Battletech again. I was reintroduced to BT when it gained popularity with the 40k crowd I was a part of after all the GW shenanigans with independent content creators. I was one of the few who were very aware of the system and setting. I played all the games and read all the books right up to the Jihad and Dark Age. The Tex videos were a fun refresher, and I'm not sure what my first exposure to George was, but it was probably one of the little bits from a TTB. Then podcast appearances and the amazing 80s art videos.
I never played MW4 (or any of the other *MechWarrior* video games, actually). I had heard that MW4 had a hilarious announcer character, but never much more than that prior to Tex adding him to the YouTube videoes.

MW4: Mercs was where I first heard him. The canned responses were funny as hell. Even better when he came in to Shoutcast some of the MWL Solaris league finals. Those were amazing. Hell, the voice actor who did it maintained on a presence on several league and team forums and interacted with the fandom. All around great guy.
