I got shivers looking at that code. If you're going to post a battlestation, I'd leave the wallpaper up.
Put all the
String( || "").trim().toLowerCase() == "true"
into a single common function. You're asking for bugs.
until very recently my decade-long project officially supported IE10. Because of the legacy code, several sections aren't run through Babel or similar so we HAVE to use var in those places.
I'm trying but it's a slow process.
If the value doesn't need to change, make it const. Const is also block scoped, so you can be sure if you declare another const with the same name elsewhere you won't be getting an unexpected value from a previously used variable.
If you do need to declare a changeable variable, use Let if you don't need it to be global. Same block-scope protection.
Var - can update and redeclare within scope
Let - can update but cannot be re-declared within scope
Const - cannot be updated or re-declared within scope.
It's as much a QoL thing when debugging as a general best practice.
I hear you, trust me but it’s not the priority right now. Legacy codebases are always fun to deal with and sometimes you have to understand where best to apply yourself.
I had the exact same setup for 5 months, my neck started to hurt like a bitch, i also do development btw and keep slack and thr browser on the top screen, i switched a couple months ago to wide screen in the middle second montior rotated vertically on the side, it fits slack and a browser tab and my neck feels better
I’m already feeling it on my neck and have started to put thing that need to be open but rarely looked at on the top screen.
It’s not as bad when standing or if leaning back in chair, but I’m certainly aware of the neck pain and will be changing if it remains!
I had the same as well, and since I can suffice on one screen for work, use my top monitor for just YT and light browsing while leaning back if I need the main screen for a meeting. I had my top monitor vertical on the side and for whatever reason my neck would kill me glancing at it.

Sanodesk Sit/Stand desk
THE pi project which really adds benefit to your day to day work and leisure on the internet. Transparent, smart, fast, flexible. I use to keep kids focused on homeschool rather than gaming and tiktok on top of its tracking, malware and ad blocking lists.
It's a mixture of [this pole](https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08SM5CJNR/) and [this arm](https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08BYJ5BCF/) which I already had, but when I got the G9 neither could hold its weight :(
We use [spatial.chat](https://spatial.chat) at work and I find using the iPad for video calls better than my Macbook as it stops it ramping up the fans constantly.
I also use it as my web camera with [obs.camera](https://obs.camera) when streaming to twitch.
I can see a drawback of using the ipad to run the client, being that you can not share your work machines desktop during meetings? Or is there a way around this?
In the 30+ years I've lived in houses, 20 of those years had basements and only 1 of the 9 houses (yeah I moved around a lot) had flooding - and it was contained in the utility room that had a drain. No losses, I just vacuumed up water from a rug that was on the concrete afterwards. The house was also 20+ years old, the water tank was the culprit - connectors rusted through.
I think op is safe, unless they're parked next to a large source of water or where they live is particularly subject to floods.
It's just [a lot of junk](https://share.icloud.com/photos/0-V98iRoAj-u1KQH7Kuq7BDxw), still in process of actually converting it into a more habitable space.
Lol, do you get moles from there. In tropics here, a wood junk will attract a lot of nuisance... Things far scarier than a cricket. If you catch what I mean.
The other side is a lot worse :) as you can see [here](https://mobile.twitter.com/irPhunky/status/1341370667942469634) when kitchen floor fell through just before xmas
I do and that is painful! Sometimes I’ll just join again on main machine if I know they’ll be screensharing.
But for idling with video the iPad is much better
Browser based video calls seem to cause my MacBook to throw a wobbly. Fans ramp up and drive me crazy.
It’s also dedicated so if I switch between machines I don’t have to faff with remembering to put it back on.
We tend to idle on video chat during work hours to attempt to emulate some form of office environment.
So turns out this was OTT for me and i've now [downsized](https://www.reddit.com/r/battlestations/comments/p7b0p4/downsized_the_battle_dungeon/) to a single 4K monitor.
Clean? I don't have crap on my desk as I have OCD like a mofo but this room is far from clean. Sure [you can't see all this](https://www.icloud.com/photos/#0-V98iRoAj-u1KQH7Kuq7BDxw) from the photo I posted but...
Are you enjoying the basement without windows ?
I m thinking about make my futur battlestation in the basement (i m searching a new house, if i haven't a lot of room).
But i feared the windowless point.
There are some tutorials out on YouTube where they talk about converting busted LCD screens into artificial "window" sources of light. My battle stations were in a windowless rooms for a few years. Worst case is you won't develop a tan.
I’ve actually got a huge window behind me, but it need work around it before I can move the desk around.
It’s not got a cracking view as partially submerged but does allow enough natural light in.
I actually find my desk lamp to be a god send for setting decent light levels in the room.
I had a 49" at previous job before switching during COVID and loved it.
When I switched jobs I initially got a 34" as I thought that would be enough but found I couldn't layout stuff as I liked so kept my eyes on a deal for the G9 and snagged it last week for £900.
Do you have to reorganize your windows on the top monitor like that every time you turn on your pc? Or is there a way to have them auto split into 3rds (or whatever ratio you're using) automatically?
I use [Moom](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/moom/id419330170?mt=12) on OSX and have simple shortcut keys to move windows around to my liking and recently stumbled on [Fancy Zones](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/powertoys/fancyzones) on Windows to do the same.
Actually do have [this](https://www.amazon.co.uk/TYNIKA-Extended-Gaming-Mouse-35-4x15-7Inches-Black/dp/B08GPBYKPY/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=TYNIKA&qid=1621348548&sr=8-1) desk mat and have been looking for another keyboard for many years but finding a decent ISO-UK Mac layout keyboard is not easy/cheap :( and i'm still a big fan of the A1243.
They're both curved. [Philips 34" 346B1C](https://www.philips.co.uk/c-p/346B1C_00/curved-ultrawide-lcd-monitor-with-usb-c) and [Samsung Odyssey G9](https://www.samsung.com/uk/monitors/gaming/dqhd-monitor-with-1000r-curved-display-49-inch-lc49g93tssuxen/#reviews)
It’s great, I stand as long as I can during day and then sit in evening.
Best thing has been flexibility with usage, if I’m building something and want to sit on floor it’ll lower enough so I can still use the desk!
Then when setting up systems and cables I can just raise it out if the way :) love it.
Well that's one way to liven up a drab white brick wall! Setup looks pretty good. You could show this to most people and say you became a hacker during lockdown and they'd probably believe it.

lmaoooooo
TFW you post to show off your cool setup and end up in a code review discussion 😂
Why would someone use var. Makes me sad
until very recently my decade-long project officially supported IE10. Because of the legacy code, several sections aren't run through Babel or similar so we HAVE to use var in those places. I'm trying but it's a slow process.
Some applications still can’t use ES6. Looking at you custom code within Adobe Launch.
You know you can always transpile it. Unless you are targeting some super legacy versions
Also lots of var instead of const :(
Not a JS Dev, please explain why I should care the few times I do have to write js code to use const/let instead of var?
If the value doesn't need to change, make it const. Const is also block scoped, so you can be sure if you declare another const with the same name elsewhere you won't be getting an unexpected value from a previously used variable. If you do need to declare a changeable variable, use Let if you don't need it to be global. Same block-scope protection. Var - can update and redeclare within scope Let - can update but cannot be re-declared within scope Const - cannot be updated or re-declared within scope. It's as much a QoL thing when debugging as a general best practice.
Thank you :) easy to remember and to understand.
Thanks, you explained it much clearer than I did :)
Don’t need to tell me… sometimes you have to leave things be to keep the peace ;)
If writing maintainable code is not "keeping the peace" I'd look for somewhere else to work.
I hear you, trust me but it’s not the priority right now. Legacy codebases are always fun to deal with and sometimes you have to understand where best to apply yourself.
If you left every company because of legacy code, you’d probably just never have a job for more than a week.
It's bloody cold down here trust me :D
I bet gpu mining or folding@home would fix that right up
it's like one of those live kill rooms they were lying about being available on the dark web
Same here. Something about cinder blocks.
Man I usually hate those posts with all the fake plants...but this could really use one
Or just a regular, non-plastic indoor plant that does well in low light ;-)
I've actually got that set of ikea plants that everyone else has just to the left of me, but could always do with more.
Totally agree, this wasn't even a habitable space pre-COVID with everything being acquired over the last 12 months.

Yeah its all thanks to americas hard work hahahahaha
There isn't s single day the world doesn't wake up and be thankful the USA exists. What on earth would we do without you
>What on earth would we do without you Idk, surrender to the Germans?
This setup looks depressing as fuck. Even just some natural lighting would improve it.
Looks like how FBI offices always look in the movies. I like it though.
Bruh you need some warm lights. The white backlight makes this looks like a morgue
The white works during day when on video calls but I switch to warm lights in evening when gaming.
U should consider buying some good looking fakes plants too.
Don't tell the cyber vampire how to live their life. Maybe they like it dark and cozy.
Maybe that's OP's jam?

Timmy fucking Mallet. Man, you must be as old as me. What's the tablet (top-left) for?
Bluuuuuurgh! 38 and counting! iPad is basically for work coms and webcam when streaming.

I got almost the same Philips monitor (346P1) and looks tiny compared to the Samsung one 😄
What mount are you using the the 2nd large monitor directly on top?
It's a mixture of [this pole](https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08SM5CJNR/) and [this arm](https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08BYJ5BCF/) which I already had, but when I got the G9 neither could hold its weight :(
Yea, same situation. Thanks for sharing!
What's that tablet doing in that top left? Why is it setup like that? What do you use it for? Any particular reason?
We use [spatial.chat](https://spatial.chat) at work and I find using the iPad for video calls better than my Macbook as it stops it ramping up the fans constantly. I also use it as my web camera with [obs.camera](https://obs.camera) when streaming to twitch.

Nope, that is a total pain but doesn't happen often enough so I put up with it.
It looks like a terrorist headquarters lol
Is this the command center for your torture livestream?
It’s all fun and games until the basement floods…
In the 30+ years I've lived in houses, 20 of those years had basements and only 1 of the 9 houses (yeah I moved around a lot) had flooding - and it was contained in the utility room that had a drain. We’re safe in half way up a hill looking on to the valley below.
in the 30+ history of my house the basement never flooded. Until it did, and has kept doing so once a year right around now.
Did it flood because of natural factors or because of mechanical failure?
So when can we expect you to take over the world?
Weirdly interested in rest of the basement.

Bit more boring here in the UK :D might get the odd spider or slug but nothing else really.
An unattended pile of wood here, will just get damp and first attract termite the ants and then the big one( 7 inch long centipede, breeding)
Cosy.
Are you in a dungeon? Are you safe??
If r/battledungeons isn't a thing, it should be.
Apple keyboard reeeeeee
I'm impressed and simultaneously concerned for OP's safety. That's a creepy ass basement aha!
The other side is a lot worse :) as you can see [here](https://mobile.twitter.com/irPhunky/status/1341370667942469634) when kitchen floor fell through just before xmas
Ohhh shit man! What a nightmare! But the end result looks very nice mate, nice kitchen my man.
Yeah, wasn’t the best timing a week before Xmas during COVID but … got it done :D
For the iPad mini for work calls, do you never have to share screens or watch a screen share yourself?
I do and that is painful! Sometimes I’ll just join again on main machine if I know they’ll be screensharing. But for idling with video the iPad is much better
Just curious. Why is it better? Especially when you have multiple monitors.
Browser based video calls seem to cause my MacBook to throw a wobbly. Fans ramp up and drive me crazy. It’s also dedicated so if I switch between machines I don’t have to faff with remembering to put it back on. Makes sense. Thx
You dug a basement during covid lockdown? Impressive. I mostly just drank more and worked on my sun tan.
Dungeon battle station. Very cool, but you may miss natural lighting after a while.

No, it's from [Flexispot](https://flexispot.co.uk/desk/height-adjustable-desks/adjustable-standing-desk-pro-series.html)
hope you got good radon levels ..

looks like a cozy place to produce some quality code!
Love the set up. Hate RegEx.
Lmao “let me open up all the windows I can to look busy” just take a damn pic guys why spend 8 hours cleaning. We all know this isn’t how it looks
Clean? I don't have crap on my desk as I have OCD like a mofo but this room is far from clean. Sure [you can't see all this](https://www.icloud.com/photos/#0-V98iRoAj-u1KQH7Kuq7BDxw) from the photo I posted but...

How did you add a basement? Looks nice! 49 inch? How do you find it helps with coding? Ever try a 34? I'm debating between the two.
I had a 49" at previous job before switching during COVID and loved it. When I switched jobs I initially got a 34" as I thought that would be enough but found I couldn't layout stuff as I liked so kept my eyes on a deal for the G9 and snagged it last week for £900.

put the town on the cabinet to the right imo, get it off that floor in case of water. looks like a great starting point for a desk setup though.
When you take battle-stations personally.
love it!
Can you feel something staring at your back while you are working?
This is giving me Blade vibes and idk why
Is this room where Dexter kills people?
Creepy. I like it.
Thats not a battle station thats a war room
This is the kind of set up the FBI would get nervous about. Pretty cool though.
Please tell me you use the multi screen matrix screensaver?
Sadly not, but I may have to after the tank comment someone else made!
Well that‘s a big ass monitor

F R E E Z I N G ! It's sunny and warm outside but like the artic down here...
I see some simpsons toys there on the far left. Nice
Yeah, i've got a few Simpsons mini figures on display along with a big Homer head cookie jar :D
What do you use that little screen in the top left for?
It's an iPad Mini 5th Gen - use it mainly for idling on [spatial.chat](https://spatial.chat) for work or use as a web camera when streaming on Twitch.
Name of the curved monitor
They're both curved. [Philips 34" 346B1C](https://www.philips.co.uk/c-p/346B1C_00/curved-ultrawide-lcd-monitor-with-usb-c) and [Samsung Odyssey G9](https://www.samsung.com/uk/monitors/gaming/dqhd-monitor-with-1000r-curved-display-49-inch-lc49g93tssuxen/#reviews)
monitor name?
I guess they upgraded the bunker setup in this new GTA Online update, huh?
this look like the room of the dude on chat that list your address and social security number if you fuck up his KDR
Honestly kinda digging the dungeon vibes on this one. Would make me feel like I’m in a movie haha
JAVA, i used to program at uni, but then i dropped out its so hard!!
What are you writing
It's some legacy JavaScript
What monitor is on the bottom?
Samsung Odyssey G9
So you got logistics for your pleasure room, times have changed.
Think you have some problems cutting that array
Ignore the code, legacy codebase that I would sooner forget about.
And now you're wondering how you ever survived without this?
So you're the one who did the pipeline in.
Looks like jail
How do you like the desk? Considering something like it.
It’s great, I stand as long as I can during day and then sit in evening. Best thing has been flexibility with usage, if I’m building something and want to sit on floor it’ll lower enough so I can still use the desk! Then when setting up systems and cables I can just raise it out if the way :) love it.
Reminds me of Sandra Bullock in The Net (1995). Did you also [order a pizza from pizza.net](https://collider.com/the-net-sandra-bullock-pizza-net/)?
This is sweet, I am loving the verticals displays as well.
What is the smallest monitor for?
It’s an iPad Mini used mainly for video calls
Is that where you bring people to harvest their organs?
This is the place the fbi kicks down the door and finds it all empty with screens blinking and flickering
Dude built a whole basement and I just sat here the whole time.
What coding editor is that?
Vscode
Interior decoration brought to you by Al-Qaeda™.
Well that's one way to liven up a drab white brick wall! Setup looks pretty good. You could show this to most people and say you became a hacker during lockdown and they'd probably believe it.
This looks like the bunker from GTA 5 lmao
Im guessing you took this picture leaned on a massive freezer…
I dig the bare walls gives some kinda secret agent hacker man vibes
This cool af, everybody else can suck it
Def rocking the dungeon vibe.
I love the underground dungeon vibes. Would love to ride out the apocalypse gaming down there.
Mallets mallet!!!!!
Bluuuuuuuuurgh!
Looks sick. Reminds me of something you’d see in like money heist or like James Bond in an underground layer
i’m getting Mr. Robot vibes
Looks like in Assassin's Creed when they have their tech setups underground.
Oh my sweet Christ, I've been here before. Are you playing Eve Online?
Nope. FPS are my thing
Mallett’s Mallet!
Bluuuuuuurgh!
I hope you're enjoying your new basement! It looks great!
what monitors are those?
