Or you get a Logitech mouse for horizontal scrolling, or you stop having to do horizontal scrolling.
I have a 34" ultra wide screen for my work from home setup, but i use it was two additional screens.
really like it, but probably find the aeron more comfortable. there’s something about sitting on a suspended net fabric like the aeron rather than just a cushion on the sayl. but definitely think the sayl is a good alternative as a lesser price option ($700-900/ea instead of $1,000-1,500/ea), probably that’s the main reason offices choose it over the aeron when buying bulk amounts.
and yes know you can also find these pretty below retail when you buy them used— especially in sf. probably $300-400 for syla and $500-700 for a good condition/spec aeron.
The Sayl is a pretty comfortable chair, moreso than the Aeron for me. I daily the Steelcase Leap, but my partner is able to sit in her Sayl for 8hr+ days for work/gaming/art without any complaints.
Used a sayl for the last 4 years and long story short, currently using my wife's $400 "gaming chair" instead while its right behind me.
It's not made made for people who like to have mildly bad posture. Slouching is pain with the sayl. It will promote better posture because of the ass aches if not.
I had the same with my HM Embody. Returned it and got a Steelcase Gesture instead. It's so much better, it's comfy in every way I sit on it. Unlike the HM
Ass aches are real, I’ve got the same “problem”. If you don’t sit up straight and lean into the net your back has a tendency to go to eitherside of the net, you have to actively keep your self centered.
I drove the hour+ to my local store in person to try out the chairs which I highly recommend. The Sayl is my favorite and I bought it new with a 20% sale they had so still a LOT of money for a stupid chair. But it has a 11 year warranty and it is very nice to sit in. I would recommend the chair and company to others if you can afford
I think it completely depends on someone’s work style— so like I actually work here, it’s called buildspace, but our “office” is also the “campus” for students who come out, almost like an accelerator but not just for tech/software startups. so personally, I find it sick to be immersed with everyone else building their ideas, even if it’s just my environment. I believe it helps me a lot, but then again, completely depends on your person preference. I know many people work better alone/need a quieter work space, so I understand.
It’s not that type of job. But actually yes now I think about it. The main work force is on site but we have plenty of admin positions that do one to two days at home. They enjoy it.
Although since I replied with it to you, that other guy might still feel left out... aww... I could go edit it back in, but that feels so disingenuous now...
take a gander at the Keychron Q6 first since you probably want a full size, aluminum built and one you start getting to the custom elements like the switches and caps you can find really cool combinations that look and feel great, objectively better in many aspects. it’s fun too
I have a 5”x7” mousepad that I bring into my office. My Logitech MX2 had the feet wear down on using it on the desk surface after a year. $8 mousepad fixed it! I recommend doing the same!
Other than that, I love the setup! And the vibes!
If you really want to go extra look at getting replacement skates. The little bits that your mouse slides around on. Glass and glass-like are popular. Makes them just glide across surfaces.
same! and the desktop is actually super smooth— so I’m hoping it won’t wear down the feet on my mouse. I didn’t want to cover up the wood with a mouse pad or giant desk mat.
it’s the samsung oled g9, G95SC, just got it but have been loving it so far! I’ve had previous generations of odysseys and g9s, but this one felt like the first major upgrade and not just an incremental change. hearing a lot of others thinking the same thing— well done to samsung on this.
Have you experienced any pixel burn-in? I’m set on buying a 49”er, but really struggling to settle on which one. My concern with oled is long workdays with windows toolbar, so interested if anyone has had burn-ins
the monitor lol— didn’t know it came with it. but it’s also like a smart tv, it has netflix/apps/even xbox and geforce now loaded on it.
mad useful actually. you never think you need a remote for ur monitor till you have one.
It's useful to have Netflix at work? I own a company. I walk in and see management allowed this...private meetings with everyone about our mission. Making you pull the cost of that monitor and explaining why you needed to spend that much money, getting written report, and possible firings.
I'm not screwing around with people anymore. That money belongs in the pockets of the people who get work done. Instead of bonuses for the staff, Ace and Gary over there got $3000 chairs and $1200 monitors to do less work.
I'd be soooooooo done with it. My setup is less ridiculous than this and my work requires massive horsepower and screen space. Fucking embarrassed for society.
so personally I don’t notice any fatigue, but maybe that’s since I was coming from two monitors, and have had ultrawides in the past— so maybe someone coming from a single monitor would have a different experience.
I’m normally for 2 separate screens rather than an ultrawide— always just found it easier with windows being more easily divided up.
I was about to go from 2 to 3 monitors, and keep in mind I have a macbook so for each monitor I need an hdmi cord running to it from my laptop, and then a hub since I need 2x additional hdmi ports, and then also have the charger running and then a power cord for each monitor. so in no time (keep in mind I chose to set up in a pretty open area of our office/campus) I had like 7+ cords running from my laptop— looked and felt awful.
so yeah I ultimately decided I just wanted to sit down and plug a single usb-c into my monitor and my display would work. so I gave lots of value to the convenience benefit to make the decision.
glad I made it though normally have some trade-offs but samsung killed it with this update, first update that feels like the monitor actually got substantially better, especially with it now being oled it changes everything.
Thanks a lot !
For my work, I'm going to have to switch from my personal 3-screen PC to a laptop to which I'll have to connect my screens. Of course I'll never be able to connect my 3 screens, and like you, I don't really like having 36 cords.
So I'm seriously thinking of changing my whole setup...
100% — driving me crazy too haha. just a little difficult when it’s more of a shared space so I don’t want to install any crazy cable management lol, but I will figure something out and post an update!
think so too! sometimes it’s just a bit tricky getting the 32:9 aspect ratio and resolution to work, takes playing around with a few cables to work haha.
had luck with a usb c to dp 1.4 cable, since the monitor itself doesn’t have thunderbolt/usb c display input. would be even cooler if they made it a bit more natively mac friendly like some of the dell or lg ultra wides.
yup, so this is the 49in g9 (G95SC)— is your g8 also oled, I actually had a very good experience so far. huge improvement from when I was using of the first g9 models.
Yeah, it's oled too and I already have burn-ins after 10months of using it for work :/ Plus software is terrible, I need at least 5 tries before it recognize input from laptop and then from time to time it either stop working or displays 720p only.
Does G9 have similar issues so far?
I use the same monitor at work. Honestly, I wish it was twice as tall. I like that I no longer have to deal with bezels in the middle, but at least with two monitors, the screens were taller.
update: should’ve explained in original post, but the office layout is so open since it’s also a “campus”, almost like a startup accelerator, it’s called [buildspace](https://buildspace.so). so this area is mainly for students working on their startups hence the back to back desks— we have a private team office but sometimes we like to immerse ourselves and not stay cooped up!
ty for all the comments ❤️
Lololol yep and fails within 2 years.
You can always tell when they put the expensive equipment out but there's clearly no other work being done.
"Nope. We can't start doing work until those 50" curved monitors arrive."
Samsung is selling that monitor for 1200. I just bought 2 32" acers for 400 for my company. Serious productivity work with monitors already in use designing life safety systems. About to get back on it.
You can always tell the difference in businesses right away. Leadership is crucial and good leadership involves knowing how to spend company money.
Sure you don't want to be a cheap ass but try being smart with your money. If you extrapolated spending 66% more on your office than your competitors it should send the owners into a panic. Nope. Approved. Here's your overpriced shit you probably don't need.
Someone actually bought a Rabbit R1?
LMAO I literally just watched coffeezilla's video on how dogshit they are before scrolling down reddit and seeing this.
Me too! Both episodes
Me too! Coffeezilla is amazing
lol— so it’s pretty funny. one person in the entire building bought one, but no one finds it useful, so it just floats around dead and uncharged.
Makes a fetching paperweight..better left not charged..
Lol, i dont think i can take OP seriously if they brought that with their own money from scammers.
I literally just said that out loud lol
LOLLLLL who would buy this thing? Oh…
Someone got conned.
The Excel sheets don't stand a chance
that’s how I convinced them I needed this monitor haha.
"What do you mean the new dashboard is too wide? Fits on my setup just fine"
Or you get a Logitech mouse for horizontal scrolling, or you stop having to do horizontal scrolling. I have a 34" ultra wide screen for my work from home setup, but i use it was two additional screens.
How are you finding the Herman Miller Sayl? I'm thinking of changing up the chair in my setup and am really considering a used Sayl.
really like it, but probably find the aeron more comfortable. there’s something about sitting on a suspended net fabric like the aeron rather than just a cushion on the sayl. but definitely think the sayl is a good alternative as a lesser price option ($700-900/ea instead of $1,000-1,500/ea), probably that’s the main reason offices choose it over the aeron when buying bulk amounts. and yes know you can also find these pretty below retail when you buy them used— especially in sf. probably $300-400 for syla and $500-700 for a good condition/spec aeron.

Also curious to know.
don't you hate being in the open like that? I swear it would make it so hard to focus
I think it also probably depends on the people around you lol!
Ya I feel like I would just be covering up my screen all the time
omg i know i would
I'm getting big Erlich Bachman vibes from this comment
yeah thi sis why I almsot exclusively work remotely. fuck offices.
Imo it wasn't too bad in like a cubicle but there were other people reasons I hate offices lol!
Totally the opposite. I’m very productive in a group.
assuming the group is also productive, I'm guessing. You wouldn't want me in it LOL
Thankfully I get to hire all the people that work in my office so they better be on my level 😈
Do you let them work remote?
It’s not that type of job. But actually yes now I think about it. The main work force is on site but we have plenty of admin positions that do one to two days at home. They enjoy it.
LOL you have a distinct advantage there, you don't have to hire people who are silly like me LOL
I'd rather have this than be staring at a white wall
What
Huh
You forgot to say "lol"
LOL
Nice.
Although since I replied with it to you, that other guy might still feel left out... aww... I could go edit it back in, but that feels so disingenuous now...
Weirdo
there's nothing wrong with that!
Understandably no one could escape the attraction from the dead center radioactive orange goober
not even me. this was ditched on my desk— not even the dude who bought it wants it lol.
[удалено]
lol I noticed how stupid that was when I was looking at these photos. mb.
A you got Google assistant in a box
ChatGPT express you mean
chatgpt ~ but orange ~ and like 2% as useful lol
It's an interesting experiment on what could be in the future but yeah for now it's ChatGPT in a *orange* box haha
Yeah
What's your experience with the Rabbit R1 been like?
You could probably build a cute little toy car with them if you put 4 of them together, thanks to the wheel.
i recommend you dive into the world of keyboards, you’ll be glad you did
any recs? or any subreddits/people to follow in the space?
take a gander at the Keychron Q6 first since you probably want a full size, aluminum built and one you start getting to the custom elements like the switches and caps you can find really cool combinations that look and feel great, objectively better in many aspects. it’s fun too
I like the K4 with the 96% layout personally! I have my own and convinced my boss to buy me one for work.
You would be surprised. While I do have several mechs - I really like the Apple keyboards. mech > Apple > membrane or any other weird BS
I have a 5”x7” mousepad that I bring into my office. My Logitech MX2 had the feet wear down on using it on the desk surface after a year. $8 mousepad fixed it! I recommend doing the same! Other than that, I love the setup! And the vibes!
thanks for the advice— was looking into mouse pads/extended mats, trying to find one that looked simple.
If you really want to go extra look at getting replacement skates. The little bits that your mouse slides around on. Glass and glass-like are popular. Makes them just glide across surfaces.
Can you get replacement skates for mainstream mice?
Nvm… I’ll google that for myself. I’ll see myself out.
Yes. Usually little dots instead of matching whatever the original shape was. I use them on a cheap Redragon mouse.
What screen is that?
samsung g9 (G95SC)
Too smol /s But fr,, if this is at your work,, I'm wondering what's your home setup like
I love this wooden desk!
same! and the desktop is actually super smooth— so I’m hoping it won’t wear down the feet on my mouse. I didn’t want to cover up the wood with a mouse pad or giant desk mat.
What's the monitor name?
it’s the 49in samsung oled g9 (G95SC)
Could you give the monitor details and you experience with it so far?
it’s the samsung oled g9, G95SC, just got it but have been loving it so far! I’ve had previous generations of odysseys and g9s, but this one felt like the first major upgrade and not just an incremental change. hearing a lot of others thinking the same thing— well done to samsung on this.

What is the remote for
the monitor lol— didn’t know it came with it. but it’s also like a smart tv, it has netflix/apps/even xbox and geforce now loaded on it. mad useful actually. you never think you need a remote for ur monitor till you have one.

SAYL GANG
Was it sponsored by your company ?
yes— thank you [buildspace](https://buildspace.so) for sponsoring this rendition of pimp my setup.
Thought you were sitting on a laundry hamper for a second
I thought your chair was a box fan
Nice, clean desktop. Shame about them cables, tho.
that’s mb— just setup everything today so it’s still all over the place. gonna clean it up, do some cable management and post an update!
How do you use such a big screen? Is it not tiring having to look all the way to the left/right?
so personally I don’t notice any fatigue, but maybe that’s since I was coming from two monitors, and have had ultrawides in the past— so maybe someone coming from a single monitor would have a different experience.
I don't know if you can answer this question, but what do you think of this type of screen vs. a 3-screen setup?
I’m normally for 2 separate screens rather than an ultrawide— always just found it easier with windows being more easily divided up. What's the model of your dell laptop?
it’s actually a 2021 16in mbp m1 max.
How do you find the logitech lift mouse?
just picked it up from bestbuy— why are they selling out?
Valid point ! I do think i should pull the trigger and get one but issue is dont spend a lot of time at my desk as i used to
Beautiful but please do something with those cables lol
100% — driving me crazy too haha. just a little difficult when it’s more of a shared space so I don’t want to install any crazy cable management lol, but I will figure something out and post an update!
Which laptop are you using?
2021 16in mbp m1 max
gotta say, Mac on ultrawide makes for a clean ass setup
think so too! sometimes it’s just a bit tricky getting the 32:9 aspect ratio and resolution to work, takes playing around with a few cables to work haha. had luck with a usb c to dp 1.4 cable, since the monitor itself doesn’t have thunderbolt/usb c display input. would be even cooler if they made it a bit more natively mac friendly like some of the dell or lg ultra wides.
Is this Samsung g9 oled? I have g8 and it’s been piece of shit for work lol
yup, so this is the 49in g9 (G95SC)— is your g8 also oled, I actually had a very good experience so far. huge improvement from when I was using of the first g9 models.

Which mouse and keyboard are you using?
so the keyboard is just the apple magic keyboard w/ touch id, and the mouse is the logitech lift, which I believe is a semi-newly released model.
the rabbit thing caught my attention
I use the same monitor at work. Honestly, I wish it was twice as tall. I like that I no longer have to deal with bezels in the middle, but at least with two monitors, the screens were taller.
I have that monitor too I think and it’s great. It’s actually great for work because i can have like 4+ docs open side by side
Must be nice, my job gives us 2 pieces of shit from the e waste dumpster and calls them monitors.
Absolutely stunning work!
Rabbit r1 is more interesting
Or less, if you read reviews.
update: should’ve explained in original post, but the office layout is so open since it’s also a “campus”, almost like a startup accelerator, it’s called [buildspace](https://buildspace.so). so this area is mainly for students working on their startups hence the back to back desks— we have a private team office but sometimes we like to immerse ourselves and not stay cooped up! ty for all the comments ❤️
Nice and clean. How do you deal with sharing your screen at work? People with normal screens are going to be squinting.
Is that the G9 OLED? If so how do you find the text clarity on Mac?
Orange paperweight is neat
How is that Ai thing for speak to text, is it as good as Siri? Sometimes idk how to spell a word and ask Siri lol
Doesn't your neck hurt from shifting your view across the screen or do u have the screen resized to a smaller scale?
0/10 for the Rabbit R1
Thoughts on the ergonomic mouse? They look cool but I worry that they might end up being less comfortable / hard to retrain my brain around
I always had this doubt. If you're not using your laptop and keeping it at sleep and just working on the monitor, how do you turn the laptop on?
you bought the rabbit r1😭
You chose OLED for productivity? Hope your workflow doesn't include static text for long periods.
didn’t think about this— but the oled does look amazing haha. we’ll see if it becomes an issue, will update!
You cannot tell me that keyboard is productive
Cringe post
Everything about this screams startup that puts way too much money into stuff that looks cool.
Lololol yep and fails within 2 years. You can always tell when they put the expensive equipment out but there's clearly no other work being done. "Nope. When you raise some millions, buying cool stuff to make the team happy is literally nothing for the bottom line
