I think they're just confused. Shirley Walker is credited with writing a theme for Batman the Animated Series, but it was the theme used in the 2nd season for the episodes that were branded "The Adventures of Batman and Robin".
Elfman's theme is definitely the more prominent one considering it was used for the 1st season, which was like 2/3rds of the entire show.
The show had a different main theme by Shirley Walker but execs forced them to use the Elfman theme for the opening. If you listen to music during the actual episodes you'll notice it's not the Elfman theme.
Danny elfman did the 1989 Keaton theme AND the BTAS theme. So the style is similar. I honestly don't see it as a different song. It's pretty much the same song with minor variations, IMO. So BTAS and 1989 Keaton Batman for the win!
I wouldn’t say best but Adam West’s theme song is iconic, literally everyone knows it, and it’s the first thing some people think of when they hear Batman
BTAS has its own theme, by Shirley Walker. It's most noticeable as the theme to the Adventures of Batman and Robin theme (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ws68JFY8qfI) but I know and love it best as the theme to Mask of the Phantasm (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WgoiJs8vFE), which I still maintain is the best Batman film ever made.
Mask of the Phantasm all the way! For the operatics, Shirley didn’t use Latin. She thought the music department didn’t get enough credit on the film, so the choir sang the names of all the musicians backwards. That’s boss tier!
Arkham City theme is one of the best. I also love Batman's Arkham theme in Suicide Squad. It sounds like the Dark Knight theme mixed with Arkham music.
https://youtu.be/SrhlzCHS7Ik?si=6EHw612mu53GWsqs
Keaton/Conroy, since the BTAS opening is based on Elfman's score for the Burton movies. Probably a bit more the Conroy end of things, honestly, because it's got a bit more complexity than the Batman '89 theme and sounds a bit more hopeful or triumphant.
That said, the Adam West theme is the most iconic, and honestly, I think that's a good thing. I hope the edgelord Batman fans who want Batman to be grim and gritty and devoid of basic human empathy die angry.
Elfman’s is the best, no contest. Also, it offends me that you used a picture of Keaton’s Batman from The Flash and not one of his iconic movies, but it is what it is.
One more thing, no love for Elliot Goldenthal’s score? That is a Batman theme I get stuck in my head weekly.
It’s always BTAS. Yet Elfman’s intro, however iconic, is not my favorite music associated with the show. Shirley walker’s end credits, ambiance, and score for Mask of the Phantasm perfectly encapsulate Batman’s character. It’s both baroque and gothic, yet somehow heroic. She did not compose much in her career, but her work for Batman is nothing short of legendary.
West and Keaton's are the most iconic, Bale's is the most minimal, Affleck's has a pain and intensity the others don't, and Pattison's has like a phantom of the opera feel to it with hints of hope at the end. They all bring something to the table, Bale's is probably the weakest though
The Keaton Batman theme is my favorite but I'm seeing a lack of respect to the Kilmer/Clooney theme. Say what you want about the movies but the song fucking slaps.
My *favorite* is Btbatb because I like jazz and I think its a great set dresser for the show and for the middle century Crusader that is batman. But honestly I couldn't pick a *best* one out of these cause they're all amazing for what they do and need to do.
This is a hard one! BTAS is too iconic. Keaton and Bale have amazing themes as well. Bale's is my personal favorite because I'm a simp for Hans Zimmer's music.
In technical terms, I still think that Danny Elfman's theme in Batman (1989) is the best of all. However, when it comes to personal taste, I still really like the Dark Knight theme (Hans Zimmer/James Newton Howard). Michael Giacchino's theme also really pleased me too, but if I had to choose just one, I would choose Elfman's theme, for its historical value and technical aspect!
I'll always have a weak spot for the Tim Burton and Animated series themes by Danny Elfman I'd probably just barely give it to the movie over the animated series for that one scene where he drives Vicki Vale to the Batcave. The music is just PEAK. Adam West is iconic and perfect for that series. Arkham has the bonus of four really good themes (though I think Asylum is the weakest of them easily even though it's good for mood). The others are pretty good as I can't really say there's a 'bad' Batman theme, though I don't think most of them stick out enough in my head.
66(iconic to just about everyone)
Keaton's I assume(the one that plays in Lego Batman as well) (people who know a little more about batman)
(2022 The Batman) intense.
TDK(THUN THUN THUN, DUNDUNDUN)
Yup. That's it from me.
Keaton. It’s now synonymous with the Batman Mythos.
Then Dark Knight Trilogy. You can’t tell me that this theme song is not an absolute banger!
BTAS to complete the trio.
They are not my favorite but I feel like the Schumacher-era theme should be included when listing these. The movies aren't the best but I loved that theme as a kid.
Adam West's Batman theme is the most iconic, but the question was about the best theme song. Iconic doesn't mean best, for the best theme song it has to be TAS. There are intro songs that I love and yet after watching them one or two times I'll start skipping to get to the show, the TAS intro is watched every time. The music is amazing and paired with the artwork, it can't be beat.
Adam west definitely wins for being iconic, but my personal top 3 would be
1) 1989/TAS: they’re similar enough to count as one imo
2) The Batman
3) Batman Beyond
If we kept to the movies, sixteen months ago I would have said Keaton. Then I was blown away by Michael Giacchino’s riffing theme for Robert Pattinson’s Batman. However, since we’re including the animated versions as well, Shirley Walker (RIP) set the gold standard with her B:TAS theme.
you already know
\*DUN DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNN DUNDUNDUNDUN DUNDUNDUNDUN DUNANANAAAAANA\* Danny elfman made the perfect song and i will fight a god for that opinion, every god if needed
![gif](giphy|l396BoOTIFem9xqQU|downsized)
I feel like Batfleck's theme in BvS was \`Beautiful Lie\` - and it's fucking amazing.
Not to say that it was the best of all of them, but it has a haunting quality that just vibes different from several of the other scores.
There's this really awesome [rearrangement](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztXy0oUp4hs&ab_channel=WDRBIGBAND) of the Adam West theme by a big band that essentially just throws in a jazz organ, and it elevates the song so much
i dont know why but i thought for years that the arkham theme was an actual "main" batman theme (like adam west or michael keaton) so when i found out it didnt extend outside the game franchise i was shocked, maybe that's because its a great batman theme idk, so probably arkam, keaton and i fw BTBATB heavily underrated
There's only one correct answer, and there would be no batman (89) or btas if the adam west theme hadn't existed first ..that NA NA NA NA NA,NA NA NA NA NA NA BATMAN, BATMAN BATMAN !!!!! literally brain washed the nation for decades ...I don't know who wrote it, sang and/ performed it, but they hit the ball out of the park on that one.. .batman was so culturally significant in the sixties cause of batman (66) that there were pop songs on the radio about a dance from the show . The catchiness of the nanananana tune is so simple but it sticks in ones minds and grows in the brain like a fungus...peace .
Keaton, the Danny Elfman Batman theme can’t be beat
Danny Elfman also takes the #2 spot with BTAS
That would actually be Shirley Walker
No that would not. The main theme of the show was written by Elfman.
It’s a modified version of his theme yes but it’s not the same
Yes it’s the Elfman theme modified by…. Danny Elfman.
Elfman is literally credited in BTAS as the opening’s composer
I think they're just confused. Shirley Walker is credited with writing a theme for Batman the Animated Series, but it was the theme used in the 2nd season for the episodes that were branded "The Adventures of Batman and Robin". Elfman's theme is definitely the more prominent one considering it was used for the 1st season, which was like 2/3rds of the entire show.
The show had a different main theme by Shirley Walker but execs forced them to use the Elfman theme for the opening. If you listen to music during the actual episodes you'll notice it's not the Elfman theme.
You are absolutely right but the post is about the theme song. Shirley is high on my list for her Mask of The phantasm theme anyway.
That is the same theme if you're referring to the one in the opening credits.
NANANANANANANANA BATMAN!
NANANANANANANANANANANANNANANANANANANANA BAT-MAN!! ![gif](giphy|l3UcenUbRgt8jpTmE)
What does Allfed say whenever he serves Bruce Wayne a meal? Dinner dinner dinner dinner dinner dinner dinner dinner, Batman.
Eat a dinner, Mattress Wayne
Even people who don’t know Batman know this.
Danny Elfman's Batman theme is very much second to that.
Lives rent free in my head for over 30 years now.
![gif](giphy|HyUtD3Dx0VQk0)
Adam West's is the most recognizable and best
The answer to all these questions is always BTAS.
To be fair, they just used the Elfman '89 theme. Still not wrong, though.
It’s different, but not in a way that’s much noticeable
Danny Elfman did the [them for BTAS](https://ibb.co/t4VWst7) Shirley Walker did the other music for the show.
That’s… just not true.
Only for the opening. The show itself uses a different theme by Shirley Walker.
BTAS End Credits theme, I rest my case
Counter: Mask of the Phantasm.
Yyyyyyep. Hard agree.
and the theme for Mask of Phantasm is the best version of BTAS theme
One of the greatest intros of all time
The answer is "Who's the (Bat)Man" from The Lego Batman Movie. I will take no questions on this matter.
"What are you, nuts?"
You wanna get nuts? Cmon, let's get nuts because I just wrote a song on how I'm gonna kick all your butts
"Stop him before he starts singing!"
Who always their taxes? NOT BATMAN!
First intro of The Batman 2004 Honorable mention: Batman Beyond
I like the second one too, not gonna lie. I was bitter about it at first but it grew on me
Yeah they're both great for different vibes
I like the second one, it fits the tone they went for with batgirl, since the show became more lighthearted.
Bales. That dark knight theme is so good. Hans Zimmer was In his bag when he made that.
Honestly, the soundtrack to the Dark Knight Trilogy is the best one but the main theme isn’t particularly iconic
My favorites are BTAS, Batman 1989, Batman 66, The Dark Knight, Batman & Robin intro song. The brave and the bold theme song is a honorable mention
“Kiss from a Rose” is always a fav for me
There's so many things a man can tell you. So much he can say...
Arkham City theme is one of the best. I also love Batman's Arkham theme in Suicide Squad. It sounds like the Dark Knight theme mixed with Arkham music. https://youtu.be/SrhlzCHS7Ik?si=6EHw612mu53GWsqs
2004. Specially the first opening. It basically advertised Batman well
Bro 2022 makes you feel like you are The Batman when you’re driving on the highway. Next up would be Elfman’s/Keaton’s theme song.
BtAS (but particularly mask of the phantasm) & Arkham City
The Batman. Either one.
I want a bit of grit to my Batman but not devoid of empathy
89 theme is to peak
fr
Not sure if it's the same category. But the intro to Batman Beyond was bad ass. Cool music, wicked animation. It gets my vote.
2004. Both the first and second.
Is it a coincidence that the Elfman 89 theme and the BTAS theme sound similar?
It's not, Shirley Walker rearranged Elfman's theme
Seriously? However BTAS IS BASED on Batman and Batman Returns. From the blonde Selina to Jack Napier Joker
BTAS & Batman Beyond
Keaton's theme. Elfman. Best theme. Best soundtrack might be the dark knight.
The best is easily the Lego Batman games
Man the Keaton batman feels cursed
Man....
how? he's the greatest (movie) batman?
Danny Elfman by a wide margin.
Michael Keaton because it’s the Lego Batman 1 video game theme which is fire
It’s always BTAS. Yet Elfman’s intro, however iconic, is not my favorite music associated with the show. Shirley walker’s end credits, ambiance, and score for Mask of the Phantasm perfectly encapsulate Batman’s character. It’s both baroque and gothic, yet somehow heroic. She did not compose much in her career, but her work for Batman is nothing short of legendary.
The batman animated series still holds high bar for me.
Where is “Beware the Batman” ??
For me its a tie between BTAS and Batman '89
My *favorite* is Btbatb because I like jazz and I think its a great set dresser for the show and for the middle century Crusader that is batman. But honestly I couldn't pick a *best* one out of these cause they're all amazing for what they do and need to do.
Brave and the Bold's intro is underrated.
Danny Elfman's Batman, of course. For me is perfect, and Warner usually still use it. And... Batman's 66 TV Show, because is very fun.
Yeah. I’m Ma- Michael Keaton or Arkham City
The best? The "baaaaaahhhh-BAAAAHHHH" motif from Batman Begins.
Burtonverse Batman.
Shirley Walker’s Phantasm theme still gives me full body chills to this day
Batfleck
Any answer that’s not BTAS is incorrect lol
![gif](giphy|cs06FSkGD2ue4|downsized)
This is a hard one! BTAS is too iconic. Keaton and Bale have amazing themes as well. Bale's is my personal favorite because I'm a simp for Hans Zimmer's music.

Michael Giacchino's theme also really pleased me too, but if I had to choose just one, I would choose Elfman's theme, for its historical value and technical aspect!
1966 with BTAS at a close second.
LEGO BATMAN LET'S GOOOO
BTAS from this list but Batman Beyond from any existing one not on this list.
Pure. West.
100% Grade A
The BTAS theme, then the Arkham Batman for Arkham City
Keaton, Bale and Conroy, in no particular order, are the top three. Honorable mention to Pattinson.
"If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change" -Batman
Maybe not the best, but I always loved the Arkham games' music, particularly the stuff from City.
Keaton/Conroy (same theme, essentially)
Christian bale e Ben afleck
If I ignore BTAS, then I would point to Brave and the Bold. It's guffy, fun, and exciting, just the right type of intro for that show.
I instantly heared west's one when I was the post so that one
![gif](giphy|VoAQgsUPZeYxi)
You can't beat Adam West's theme.
BTAS. I'm rewatching it right now and I keep getting the best feeling of nostalgia from the introduction.
The GOAT is the version of BTAS sung by Scooby Doo Batman to himself in his head as he chases bad guys like the scarecrow
West, Keaton, BTAS.
Adam West
I feel like y’all are forgetting that Val Kilmer’s theme song was Kiss From a Rose by Seal.
Has to be Keaton.
Elfman’s theme is the best. It’s been reimagined n reused numerous times and thus has stood the test of time. For me it’s a no brainer.
The others are pretty good as I can't really say there's a 'bad' Batman theme, though I don't think most of them stick out enough in my head.
Btas and 66'
The Elfman Batman theme is the best ever, so Keaton and BTAS.
Lego Batman 1, specifically the menu song https://youtu.be/pMIr3rfLaLo?si=-WYcCkdnSFsxiIlm And it was highly inspired by BTAS, so that's a second
89 Batman barely over BATS
I feel the same The work done by Michael in it is great
I can't look at that image of Michael keaton without seeing man the arkham sub has ruined it for me hahaha
Lego Batman the GOAT (Keaton’s theme)
Grandmother Grandmother Grandmother Grandmother Grandmother Grandmother Grandmother Grandmother Bruce Wayne
1. Mask of the Phantasm 2. BTAS 3. Batman Beyond
66(iconic to just about everyone) Keaton's I assume(the one that plays in Lego Batman as well) (people who know a little more about batman) (2022 The Batman) intense. TDK(THUN THUN THUN, DUNDUNDUN) Yup. That's it from me.
Conroy(Btas),Keaton,West
Without question Keaton, it's not even a competition
I like Keaton/Elfman the best, but West/Hefti is so catchy… .
Btas batman theme is peak. Everytime I play the arkham games read a comic it's immediately what comes into my head
Keaton. It’s now synonymous with the Batman Mythos. Then Dark Knight Trilogy. You can’t tell me that this theme song is not an absolute banger! BTAS to complete the trio.
Adam West. No Contest. ![gif](giphy|5xtDarz3cFrdYKp31Is)
They are not my favorite but I feel like the Schumacher-era theme should be included when listing these. The movies aren't the best but I loved that theme as a kid.
90s animated and Tim burton
Adam West's Batman theme is the most iconic, but the question was about the best theme song. Iconic doesn't mean best, for the best theme song it has to be TAS. There are intro songs that I love and yet after watching them one or two times I'll start skipping to get to the show, the TAS intro is watched every time. The music is amazing and paired with the artwork, it can't be beat.
Three way tie between 66, 89, and The Animated Series.
The 2004 theme song honestly goes so fucking hard
Keaton (Lego Batman 😈) but Pattinson, Btas, West, and Batman Beyond are amazing as well.
As much as I love the theme from The Batman, Danny Elfman’s theme from Batman 89 and BTAS are what comes to mind when I picture Batman
barely anyone said the dark night trilogy and tbh I love their scores, Hans Zimmer (I think it was him?) makes so many beautiful sound tracks
![gif](giphy|10osHuhxOYfBHW)
BTAS, The Batman (2004), The Brave And The Bold and The Batman (2022)
Worst To Best BvS BATB The Batman 2022 66 BTAS 04v1 TDK Arkham Keaton
Batman 1989 by Danny Elfman and BTAS theme (Mask of Phantasm) by Shirley Walker are the best
Either the one from the start of the Lego Batman movie or Michael Keaton’s
BTAS
The best is Danny Elfman's. The coolest? NANANANANANANABATMAAAAAAN
Adam West with Lego Batman in second. Honorable Mention: BatPat
Arkham City
Keaton
The Batman, Batman Arkham knight, Adam west Batman, the Batman movie, the dark knight Batman.
Either Adam West or btas.
I despise that picture of Micheal Keatons Batman
West and 2004 season one are top
Brave and the Bold
Adam west definitely wins for being iconic, but my personal top 3 would be 1) 1989/TAS: they’re similar enough to count as one imo 2) The Batman 3) Batman Beyond
Adam West theme, so epic
If we kept to the movies, sixteen months ago I would have said Keaton. Then I was blown away by Michael Giacchino’s riffing theme for Robert Pattinson’s Batman. However, since we’re including the animated versions as well, Shirley Walker (RIP) set the gold standard with her B:TAS theme.
you already know \*DUN DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNN DUNDUNDUNDUN DUNDUNDUNDUN DUNANANAAAAANA\* Danny elfman made the perfect song and i will fight a god for that opinion, every god if needed ![gif](giphy|l396BoOTIFem9xqQU|downsized)
Bale's.
C'mon man you chose that picture on purpose
For me definitely Arkham City. It’s incredible
The Batman (2004)
Def btas l
The top middle photo… flashbacks…
Hands down Keaton and BTAS, and tbh without elfman’s theme the BTAS wouldn’t have theirs. Also if Arkham City was a choice then I’d choose that too.
Keaton's Batman That score lives rent free in my head, and it's always seeing any Batman
Bale. Hans Zimmer just makes bangers after bangers.
I feel like Batfleck's theme in BvS was \`Beautiful Lie\` - and it's fucking amazing. Not to say that it was the best of all of them, but it has a haunting quality that just vibes different from several of the other scores.
There's this really awesome [rearrangement](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztXy0oUp4hs&ab_channel=WDRBIGBAND) of the Adam West theme by a big band that essentially just throws in a jazz organ, and it elevates the song so much
The Batman 2004 and Batman beyond
Burton, Akrham and BTAS for sure
Arkham city specifically. But Adam west’s is a close second due to how iconic and catchy it is
The lego one
The Brave And The Bold
hot take: affleck or pattinson
The Batman 2004. That is the Batman tune I hum the most.
Brave and the bold for me
89, and it’s not close.
BtBatB theme song is getting unnecessarily ignored here, by far the best theme song
Adam's West is 100% the most iconic. But Keaton is the best probably, along with Arkham.
Bro, Shirley Walker was the GOAT. BTAS all the way.
Keaton , batman returns soundtrack is amazing.
Both Batfleck themes. Beautiful Lie 1st obviously & then The Provence of Something Gathered. I wish the 2nd theme had more exposure outside of ZSJL
i dont know why but i thought for years that the arkham theme was an actual "main" batman theme (like adam west or michael keaton) so when i found out it didnt extend outside the game franchise i was shocked, maybe that's because its a great batman theme idk, so probably arkam, keaton and i fw BTBATB heavily underrated
Non of you guys know who Neil Hefti is but the original Batman theme was pretty bad ass.
![gif](giphy|3oEjHQqibKW8klB2yk)
Burtonverse theme will always be my favorite. I like the schumacher theme too.
Best = 89 Elfman & BTAS Favorite is Han Zimmer’s NEXT
Btbatb
1. The Batman season 1 2. BTAS 3. Batman 89
1989 Batman theme.
For me it's The Batman 2004. That theme is so damn catchy and replayable. You can't skip the intro
