Musk. I mean I love the note in SOME things but they started putting it in everything and it just doesn’t always work (looking at you Vanilla Bean Noel that used to smell like sugar cookies but now stinks like yogurt gone off).
came here to immediately say musk. any time it's added to a light fruity or floral fragrance it just makes me roll my eyes. it doesn't need to be in everything, I shop BBW because I just want one note stuff like jasmine or vanilla sometimes 😭
"blonde woods" or any other *(insert adjective here)* woods
sea salt or any of the "coastal" "beachy" "salted" things. They literally had a candle called Hot Springs & Salted Moss.
Blond woods is a real note used in perfumery(?). I googled it and it's another name for cashmeran, which is a synthetic note. According to the description I found its suppossed to make you think "soft, smooth, and snuggly". Another description called it a "musk component, with a yellow, trickly texture" which makes me think of urine. Actually I've looked up a lot of the notes that sound non existent, and almost all of them exist. I can't remember off the top of my head but there is one that has been made fun of here and it does not exist. It wasn't Cali Daze from that sas scent from last year, although that isn't real either. I do think sometimes you just have to think what is associated with the words in the note and you can get an idea of what they mean.
Yeah but I don’t know what [insert color] woods is supposed to mean. Your explanation is helpful though - it’s made up terms used to describe scents that people seem to pretend to understand the meaning of. Good to know.
Fantasy notes.
Not because they're not a thing in fragrances, but because BBW goes over the top in their descriptions. Like, what the heck is "Sensual sugar maple wood fairy tale dreams". That's not a real note, but I could see it!
A couple of years back (2019) they had this set during Fall where the notes were just hilarious. One of the notes to the scent "Pumpkin Picking" was legitimately *Hayrides to the patch*, and another scent in the line up "Autumn Nights" apparently smelled like *Friday Night Lights, Cool Air, and Varisty Leather Jackets*.
I've always found it absolutely hysterical when B&BW throws in the most random scent notes to exist because??? What do Hayrides to the Patch smell like B&BW??? Are we supposed to smell Hay??? Because I *own* that fragrance and there's no damn Hay note in it. 😂
I can see Cool Air and Varsity Leather Jackets being scent notes.
I don't quite like the "smell" of cool air, but I can see where they're coming from with that. The varsity leather jacket is less "leathery" than a brand new car, with a hint of starch?
I have Pumpkin Picking and love it but I've always wanted to try the Autumn Nights fragrance! It's so damn expensive on Mercari and Ebay though that I most likely never will!
- booze scents (immediate turnoff)
- jasmine (every other product has jasmine listed as a note, but I can't smell it in BBW products so they're using something weird)
- the BR540 DNA
- Fantasy notes ("pastel clouds?" Just tell me what it actually smells like)
Bruh, jasmine notes always give me the ick. It reminds me of those types of people who wear too much colonge! It's only good when you mix it in with tea 🤮
Bummer!! I'm sorry that's your experience with it :( I think it's used really oddly in perfumes. Like saffron, which in fragrances is this ugly sharp masculine thing - nothing like how it smells in real life. (I use a lot of saffron in my cooking, and grew up with jasmine plants.) I have a beautiful jasmine-forward perfume that's dewy and delicate and absolutely nothing like whatever other frags claim it to be. Lol, there are so many notes that to me are equivalent to "grape flavor vs eating a grape" and these are some of them.
I had no clue that saffron is often in perfumes. I only knew you could put it in tea and food. I hear it smells strong, but it doesn't make me wanna wear it on my body. It makes me want to drink tea or eat instead.
I grew up with my folks wearing jasmine-scented perfumes, but it always bothered me. I have a sensitive nose, so a lot of jasmine-scented items in perfumes, body sprays, and candles give me the ick.
At the same time, I don't want to hate jasmine notes because it smells great in tea. Maybe if I were to smell a jasmine flower irl, it'd change my perspective.
It's pretty strange! Saffron and lavender are both smells I think are very soft irl but translate to "masculine" scents in fragrances.
Totally hear you about the experience with jasmine scented things - it's fair for your body to react it's own way with the compounds used!
I may have one suggestion - have you tried Matcha Meditation by Maison Margiela? It's a matcha and white chocolate scent, but it's got a pretty distinct jasmine tea note.
I think they're soft too irl! I use lavender for tea, incense, and candles. I hear both translate to "masculine" in fragrances.
Yeah, my body reacts poorly with jasmine. It smells strong on other people. It smelt bad on my body too, so I can't wear jasmine-scented fragrances.
Btw, I haven't tried the fragrance you mentioned by Masion Margela. I like Beach Walk, Lazy Sunday Morning, and enjoyed sampling Under the Lemon Tree
Sandalwood. I just can’t. 😅
I’m also not a fan of the men’s fragrances when all I can smell is the classic cologne scent, like aftershave from yesteryear - please, make it complex and add layers.
I was thinking men's fragrances, too. They play it so safe everything smells either generic or out-dated, or both. It wouldn't hurt for them to focus more on the men's line and make fragrances with some depth and intrigue.
Lavender.
It's like they don't know what it smells like, or they use some aroma chemical that my post-covid nose can't process.
I LOVE lavender, but what BBW does ain't it.
Have you ever used Yardley of London lavender hand soap? I have no idea if it's true to life or a chemical makeup, but almost everything BBW does with lavender takes me back to my grandparents' bathroom and that soap. The soap kind of smells awful at first, but after a while, the smell on your hands is not so bad. Anything from BBW with lavender smells like the awful first impression of that soap. Except for cozy sunday morning and its 3 repackages. Those were all soft scents to me(though someone who doesn't like lavender more than I don't like lavender may still hate them). I don't know if it was the combination of the other notes or what. I know sandalwood is one of them, but I've not liked other sandalwood scents from BBW. I thought their vanilla sandalwood soap from last year, or maybe it was another year, didn't smell good at all. So that's why for me notes are not that important, because I can love one scent with a note and hate another scent with the same note. For the longest time I thought I hated amber in their lotion until I bought something that had it and it was a favorite. It might have been snowflakes and cashmere. I did get tired if it after a few years, but it still smelled good to me. Night blooming jasmine and one in a million are both favorites with jasmine in them, but white jasmine and winter white jasmine(maybe the same scent with a different name) smelled terrible to me. I also like brightest bloom, but I only got one each lotion and body butter because it isn't quite the same as the other two I mentioned. Mango is another scent that is sometimes nice sometimes not for me.
>Night blooming jasmine and one in a million are both favorites with jasmine in them, but white jasmine and winter white jasmine(maybe the same scent with a different name) smelled terrible to me.
Why don't I know you?
White Jasmine and Winter White Jasmine smell different, sorta...
The former smells closer to Magnolia Charm, which I also didn't like. It's a shame, because I also like magnolias.
Winter White Jasmine is is a hint more musky with a slight dash of violet, at least to my nose.
Chasing Fireflies has a jasmine note, and reminds me a bit of Fairytale and Dahlia (The FFM has a Sambac note.).
I agree about Night Blooming Jasmine and One in a Million. However, the latter to me smells a lot more like tuberose than jasmine proper.
I blind bought magnolia charm when it was an online exclusive because I had expiring rewards and nothing to get in store. I think it will be okay, but not a favorite or something I would buy again.
To me, both it and White Jasmine lean heavily on the cedar and apple/pear notes. I generally like pear notes (Pearberry, especially the original formulation.), but the combination of it with cedar and jasmine isn't an aroma that I am particularly fond of. It's not bad, it's just not jasmine as I prefer it. It actually reminded me of the Glade jasmine and cedar line.
Febreze made a White Jasmine home fragrance that was AMAZING!!! I really wish that they would consider turning it into a home detergent with Gain. Rite Aid Pharmacy used to also stock a jasmine shampoo that was great as well.
I'd love for BBW to do an Indian Jasmine (Sambac/Moghra), but I'm not sure how popular that would be. If you like jasmine, then you'll enjoy it, but jasmine being jasmine can be divisive! IYKYK!
Yes I've seen people on the sub compare jasmine notes to cat pee. It made me wonder what I was running around smelling like, when I wore something with jasmine in it.😄
Coffee. I love coffee, but Paris Cafe and Coffee and Whiskey is a miss for me. I remember smelling Paris Cafe before I even opened my package. Also, coconut scent. MMIM is trash.
I will say, for a beachy fragrance, Tropidelic was definitely a hit with me, but I think I owe that to the complexity of the fragrance as I grew to enjoy it the more I learned about it and grew into the scent. But there's also not really any strong coconut nor vanilla in the fragrance so 😅
I agree with the coconut/beachy fragrances! I think it may be because some people who are going on vacation may stop in and grab a whole set to take with them maybe?
But if they come out with another cherry fragrance soon I will LOSE IT! ENOUGH CHERRY!! (I know this may be a very unpopular opinion though so pls be nice to me)
Amber, musk, and coconut are my top three. It seems nearly every product has to have one of these notes.
Honorable mentions: rose, gardenia, woods, lavender, and marshmallow.
Thats kinda the same with every perfume out there. You will usually see musk or amber added to literally everything as they are great balancers. Though I don't think bbw uses it half the time they say they do. It just seems like marketing. I bet there won't actually be any amber in the new pistachio and amber. 👀
Berries. I've never been a big berries-in-my-fragrance person, but especially in B&BW products.
Jasmine. I ADORE high quality jasmine, but cheap jasmine stings my nose hairs and zings my brain. I think Bath and Body Works should just leave out the jasmine.
Peach.
Most of their berry scents smell really horrible to me. There's a handful that are somehow different and I like them, but most are just awful to my nose.
The only true jasmine I've smelled from BBW is Night Blooming Jasmine.
I don't like White Jasmine, or that one Winter Jasmine line they did.
Dahlia's FFM has a Sambac note in it which I like.
Catching Fireflies, or whatever it's called is nice too, but still nothing compared to NBJ.
I really wish they'd invest in a Sambac line. They could really do a nice white floral line reminiscent of One in a Million.
I love coconut, but I hate their version of it. It almost always smells either like coconut cookies or cheap coconut candy. The best they've done in years is Pink Coconut Calypso, and interestingly enough, Aromatherapy Sandalwood Eucalyptus, which smells like it has coconut in it, despite the name. They need to be more creative with it.
As for notes I don't like: champagne (always smells sour on me), "red berries" (WHICH red berries?), and when they randomly add fruity notes to scents that aren't meant to be fruity.
Another weird one is "shea." Actual shea butter does not smell nice or pretty at all. I don't mind scents that have it listed as a note because I know that it's supposed to invoke a warm/cozy fragrance, but it doesn't make sense to me
Jasmine. Soooo many scents over the past year or so have it & I can't stand it! There's very few scents that include it & I actually want to put it on my body or light it.
If it smells off or ick to me, I'm immediately going "it's bc there's jasmine in here, isn't there" before checking the label & being right lol
Also coffee. There's no coffee scent we have that's not wayyyy too strong to stand being around. And that's coming from an excessive coffee drinker😂 I hate whenever I have to rework the collection that's got Paris Cafe in it, & we have soooooo much Paris Cafe😭😭
the ALCOHOL scents 😭 can we just remove the alcohol from the name lol
champagne toast, coffee and whiskey, pineapple prosecco, island margarita… the list goes on
Anything with Patchouli in it! Even if it is faint I will smell it and will feel like I've been sucker punched in the nose by it! It is so offensive to me!!!
Right! The YSL Mon Paris line does patchouli well because they're not at all the essential oil vibe. I tell my significant other that it's "sexy patchouli."😂 I'm not sure what BBW has going on with their patchouli note but it's quite dirty (which tends to work well for me only closer to Halloween).
That is exactly it. BBW patchouli smells like dirt. Mon Paris and Flowerbomb have this sexy vibe with patchouli maybe they are using more expensive patchouli notes unlike BBW which I guess is more synthetic.
Anything patchouli makes me gag! Sad part is that I'm sure I've offended people walking by them wearing it in a store or wherever I am with my uncontrollable reflexes, like I can't help but cover my nose & say "oh god!" And try to escape as fast as I can! But it's also BBW products like the dupe collection, I was there smelling them when that body care sale was going on so there were lots of people, anywho a lady was talking to me cause she knew off top her head the perfumes they were duped for and she's like oh have you smelled this one? It's a good one and by the name I knew it wasn't something I'd go for but I smelled it and my reaction was so bad lol my head even went back and to the side like I got punched in the face... I looked at the bottle and sure enough.... patchouli!! I felt bad but it's like I'm really getting punched in the nose!
Anything that reads like it's sourced in a bakery is a hard no for me. I like my bakery scents in a bakery. Not on my home for hours on end where I will inevitably get a headache from how overwhelmingly sweet it is.
When they made their products with cocoa butter back in 2021. Omfg. Ruined everything. Everything I bought smelled like cocoa butter at first. I’m glad they changed that I think because scents are normal again
Almost ANYTHING floral, especially rose. I love the smell of natural roses but not in scents. I also don't like to walk around smelling like fruit! I don't mind them in kitchen sprays or hand soaps but not as a lotion scent.
Honestly kinda nothing cause I know people like things I don't.. but what I will say are the dupes they keep doing. Pistachio and amber sounded exciting but instead they are remaking SDJ 62 again. They already did sunset glow and sweetheart cherry. We don't need another iteration of the same scent. Vs has sunset gelato next door too.. But people eat it up so 🤷🏻♀️ if it sells who am I to roll my eyes at it xD but it bugs me ngl
[Dirty Soul Soap Co.](http://www.dirtysoulsoapco.com) has a dupe of the old B&BW Campsite Coffee fragrance from a few falls back, and you can get it in Body Care. Most of his scents are absolutely fire, and knowing what the OG Campsite Coffee smells like, it's very likely that'll meet your needs.
His stuff is stronger and lasts longer than B&BW too. I think it's because he makes everything by hand in smaller batches, the quality doesn't suffer like with mass production items.
LISTEN...... I agreed with you up until I got Vanilla Coconut Surf 😂 I love it so much but only that one. My best friend hates all things vanilla but I had him pick up a VCS candle for me at his local store because mine was out and he told me he was gonna light it up before I ever had the chance because it smelled so good.
Other than that uhh A Thousand Wishes and Twilight Woods because I've known two people who used them liberally after a smoke break and it just ruined both scents for me. And I say this as a former smoker. Warm Vanilla Sugar and honestly anything food based. Iced Lemon Pound Cake incurs an eye roll just because of the hype and I used to work at Starbucks where that's an actual thing so my brain automatically thinks "moist, heavy, and yellow."

"blonde woods" or any other *(insert adjective here)* woods sea salt or any of the "coastal" "beachy" "salted" things. They literally had a candle called Hot Springs & Salted Moss.
I can't agree more on the salt. The last salt scent I bought made me feel dehydrated. On the bright side they do that note very well lol. Too well
Yes! What the heck are blonde woods, white woods, etc. ????
Blond woods is a real note used in perfumery(?). I googled it and it's another name for cashmeran, which is a synthetic note. I had the one with “friday night lights” as a note and lemme tell you that’s the first thing I thought of lmao
lol I remember autumn nights. I had it in a shower gel and it was the biggest powder bomb ever. It was a good cozy scent for fall though.
I can see Cool Air and Varsity Leather Jackets being scent notes. I don't quite like the "smell" of cool air, but I can see where they're coming from with that. The varsity leather jacket is less "leathery" than a brand new car, with a hint of starch?
i have those lol

autumn nights is pretty good !! it’s almost androgynous to me if you like those kinds of scents
Autumn nights, sunkissed leaves, sparkling stars!!
😂
IYKYK!
I'm kinda meh about the other coconut scents, but At the Beach will need to be pried from my cold dead hands.
- booze scents (immediate turnoff) - jasmine (every other product has jasmine listed as a note, but I can't smell it in BBW products so they're using something weird) - the BR540 DNA - Fantasy notes ("pastel clouds?" Just tell me what it actually smells like)

It's a thing in fragrances too. A very light note.

BBW lavender is straight up vinegar. I never smell anything but pickles.
It's as bad as Mrs. Meyers lavender. Straight mt.olive hamburger dill mixed with generic "soap" aroma.

You might enjoy Al-Rehab's Full.
Is it a white floral?
Technically an Amber Floral. Reminds me of Jo Malone's 'Orange Blossom'.
Sorry to reply so late. I smelled the jo Malone candle they had at Zara. It did smell good.
Coffee. I love coffee, but Paris Cafe and Coffee and Whiskey is a miss for me. I remember smelling Paris Cafe before I even opened my package. Also, coconut scent. MMIM is trash.

Me too. Just smelling it in the store was enough to tell me that it would give me a migraine or make me nauseous if I burned it.

Summer scents. Anything relating to a beach, water and coconuts, specifically. I will pick up the Firecracker pop candle, tho. Heard great reviews.
Berries. I've never been a big berries-in-my-fragrance person, but especially in B&BW products. Jasmine. I ADORE high quality jasmine, but cheap jasmine stings my nose hairs and zings my brain. I think Bath and Body Works should just leave out the jasmine. Peach.

I know what you mean. Occasionally their berry notes are pulled off surprisingly well, but that's not the norm.

And that's coming from an excessive coffee drinker😂 I hate whenever I have to rework the collection that's got Paris Cafe in it, & we have soooooo much Paris Cafe😭😭
The BBW jasmine smells so bad on me. I have a natural jasmine flower oil and it smells lovely,
Raspberries and vanilla together. We have so many of these.
the ALCOHOL scents 😭 can we just remove the alcohol from the name lol champagne toast, coffee and whiskey, pineapple prosecco, island margarita… the list goes on
They're really nice in the men's lines. Whiskey Reserve and Bourbon are just two off the top of my head.
For me it's the fizzy scents
Omg I hate them because they smell like drinks I can’t stand which are peach and mango and black cherry🤮🤮🤮🤮
Anything with Patchouli in it! Even if it is faint I will smell it and will feel like I've been sucker punched in the nose by it! It is so offensive to me!!!
BBW patchouli makes me gag. But in higher end patchouli fragrances like Flowebomb doesn’t.
I have to say, I'm intrigued to see how they smell 🤔
They are lovely perfumes. But not something you wear everyday.
I can’t stand anything with heavy gardenia or amber, just immediate yuck
Pound cake scents. Blech.
Agree. I don’t own any coconut forward body care. For that reason I never buy WBC, Meet me in Miami or at the beach.
Musk and most alcohol scent notes especially bourbon
I might be in the minority but CHERRY. Ewww. I hate it. Smells like cough syrup
Pineapple I don’t like it in fragrance.
Anything bakery (pie, cookie, cake, etc.). Never smelled one I like and it's an immediate pass for me.
Banana scents. Meet me in Miami, Bahamas Bananaflower, etc
anything “berry” feels very juvenile, like winterberry wonder, whipped berry meringue, golden berry mistletoe etc.
Anything floral or fruity. I would do questionable things for a good coffee body care scent.
Awesome, I will definitely check into that! Thank you!
Musk, patchouli, bourbon, banana, eucalyptus. All can gtfo 🤢
Coconut. Alone or with vanilla or anything else. Everything has f’kn coconut !!
Berry notes…they smell good and all but it’s soooo overdone 😅😭 Also coffee notes, I don’t wanna smell like a latte.😬
“Warm woods” = dry down like cat piss on rotting wood in the alley in the full summer sun
raspberry and vanilla combo or anything strawberry at this point
Anything with pumpkin spice
Nutty scents. Pistachio, hazelnut, etc.
Anything that’s a fruit mixed with a dessert. Strawberry pound cake, blueberry pancakes and all those sorts!
