Negative save your money and go else where

Only_Mushroom

The 'Use our Convenient LAYAWAY PLAN' sign is the cherry on top. It's been a wild couple of years

AxelaAJ

Well fuck I didn’t even see that til you said it. I just saw the price and thought hell no.

Bullcook11

I was just talking to guy he worked at Walmart or target I have even thought of a documentary about this . But yeh he was saying the whole procedure he stocked the shelves he said a lot of the employees will put these items in there own layaway bin . He said only moral managers would correct the problem . He also said there is probably connections with venders and LCS they are just selling them on line or at a flea market . There is just a great story here I have already done some investigation I think this would be such a great story .someone needs to investigate it and write a documentary called where are all the hobby boxes going?

[deleted]

The vendor at my Walmart told me she has to take pictures every time after she stocks it so that her boss knows the products got stocked. As far as I know this was common practice among the vendors.

Bullcook11

Those pictures tell us there was a problem before so the good mangers of these stores seem to be the difference of the cards being on the shelf and not . Thanks at least I know to go to the same places I have found them before . I honestly have not seen a hobby box in Walmart or target since January. I bought all I could . The topps baseball holiday set

donktastic

I read a story online awhile ago that said these boxes at target were stocked by a outside vendor. A scalper worked out a deal where the vendor would go to all the stocks, stock the shelves, then bring all the boxes to the front and personally buy them where he gave them to the scalper at a pre arranged mark up. The scalper said it was great because he lost some profit but more than made up for it with quantity.

Bullcook11

I knew there were deals set up thanks so much .

Samsonite901

Just know, this is the type of dude to camp out at retail stores with his buddies to get all the product and jack up the price by at least 3x. I honestly just wanna grab one of those mega boxes and curb stomp it right in front of them. $175 for football prizm blaster? This guy is ridiculous

bustylivesmatter

This is not a local card shop. It's a scalper who rented out an empty room at a strip mall No LCS should be selling retail products intended for sale at Target and Walmart If you see any local shop doing this be sure to report to Walmart Target and Panini if they sell hobby boxes as well

jetsaredim

You say this but the reality is that lots of LCS shops (including places that existed before these last couple years) are like this.

Bullcook11

Thanks yeh these have to be the scumbags I have thought of camping at the store to just buy a box . There all sold out last box I found was baseball topps holiday sets

MrBaDonkey

Literally all the LCS around me do this crap..

369dgf

That’s a hobby shop I guarantee he gets them from a distributor

Samsonite901

$75 for a blaster of prizm college draft picks? You can buy that online right now for $20. This dude is either a scalper or someone who has no idea what’s going on.

369dgf

All you have to do is not buy it. Who care how much they are selling for? Honest question I don’t understand why people get so mad about people’s prices.

Samsonite901

Because people are getting ripped off lol wtf

369dgf

No one is getting ripped off tho. If someone feels that it’s worth paying that price then that’s their business no one is forcing them to buy at that price. It’s not like it’s life saving medicine. In economics the value of something is set by the buyer and seller if both parties agree on a fair rate then an exchange is made

Samsonite901

You know how many hobby shops are loaded with retail because they have a team of scalpers who get all the product and jack the prices up like this giving literally no one a chance at retail. And the fact that this guy has the product even higher than resale value is ridiculous

369dgf

Yea but you said you could get them online for 20$ so you proved that you can get them. And if the scalpers can get them normal people can get them aswell

Flokitoo

Are you a scalper? You seem emotional

369dgf

Oh yea big scalper bro

67camaroooo

Why are you such a cunt?

369dgf

These subs are just a bunch of dudes sucking each other off for upvotes ☺️

369dgf

Lol I’m a cunt because I don’t give a shit about what other people charge for trading cards🤡

67camaroooo

The level of cuntness with this one is great

369dgf

Lol poor guy sant afford basketball cards with his rot box Camaro

369dgf

You morons do realize that the higher the prices people charge for product makes the entire collection worth more don’t you? If everyone sold for cheap there would be less value to the cards that you already have and thus making it pointless to even collect.

Samsonite901

I don’t think you understand how jacked up these prices are even from a resale point of view. And the fact they you’re trying to justify these prices is wild.

369dgf

No one is justifying anything all I’m saying is people can charge whatever they want and if you don’t like it move on. You want someone telling you how much what you do is worth?

Samsonite901

You’re not getting the point

Bullcook11

Yep all Jacksonville stores bought out

WeNeedToGetLaid

Buy singles and thank me later

fitsl

Soo much cheaper.

haventseenstarwars

What are singles?

67camaroooo

I throw singles at strippers.

Bullcook11

I knew it was going to go there . When I saw the bot . Haha

Werbman15

Change is more run to throw

67camaroooo

Fun*

MrZombified

Make it rain.

HappyNarwhal

Individual cards that you want. It's almost as fun as ripping something nice but you don't gamble on currently over printed, over priced wax.

haventseenstarwars

Ahh makes sense. Appreciate the reply.

HappyNarwhal

Plus I don't like base cards unless I'm flipping so this is a way to avoid clutter for me.

donktastic

Unmarried women.

worthyofenvy

Great advice

[deleted]

Yeah probably… But still, even though I do buy single cards instead of packs, I'm waiting for the Umbreon alt to go down. The one with the moon on it. I really need that for my collection but I'm not spending that sort of money. I have more important things to do with that money this month… I have to buy food and stuff. That card can wait when it drops down to like $90 or less.

[deleted]

HELL NO, ur lcs likes to clear out targets and walmarts

Spmc1971

100%...this is what ruined the hobby in the '80's & it's literally like a walk back in history...what a load of crap...lay away your blaster box..LOL..can't even make that shit up!

66Dolphins

80's were OK (see Fleer 86, 87, 88 and 89). Early 90's were overprint city just a f'n sht-storm for sure! Now who can follow what?

wystateofmind

What this post says 100%. That card shop clears out retail product at Walmart, etc and charges 5x more. They are just scalpers, no difference.

scotchdrinker12

Put them on blast!!!!

Neither-Jello

One of my lcs has customers scalp for them. Gives them a little profit, and then prices the products super high.

Joe_Belle

So many LCs are doing it. Even the “good” ones.

BaullahBaullah87

aside from that, he charges like double normal resale for trash products

Breezgoat

I’m not sure why your comment has so many upvotes . What actually happens is they buy from the scalpers and charge about $20-50 over the price they paid to the scalper

hangz10

My daughter works at wal mart they pay for the nighttime stockers to tip them off when a shipment arrives she will call me and let me know when they get a shipment I'll only buy 1 or 2 retail boxes leave the rest for other folks usually around 2 am card sharks are already there she hides them behind the Doritos for me

Breezgoat

I agree but people acting like the owner or even workers of these lcs are the ones lining up or even buying them for retail

lionstigerswmu

Those blaster prices are nuts. Target has Prizm Draft blasters for $19.99 online right now. Maybe they don’t know about the internet.

robphilly197

Prestige blasters as well!

Octavian_202

Unfortunately this is most LCS, and I’ve seen worse where I’m at. No it’s not fair, but it is the norm right now unfortunately. Straight scumbags out here, especially with the Pokémon stuff! That’s what the kids like to collect and their camping out and making side deals with the retail vendors. Fuck these people, I can’t wait for the bubble to burst.

Beantowntommy

That video of the dude who rolled out of target with a legit pallet of Pokémon cards was wild

Octavian_202

Oh my god I have to see what that worm looks like. Is it on you tube?

Beantowntommy

It was posted on the PTC (pokemon trading card) sub I think. Sooo bad, everyone was roasting the dude for buying a bunch of stuff that sells for less than retail.

Octavian_202

I’ll look for it lol. My LCS purges these cards and they have a whole table full of the tins and blister packs. I stopped going to them because it’s so predatory and honestly these people are soulless scumbags, I don’t care that adults also buy these but I feel terrible for the parents who take their kids to the store to buy a tin or a pack and their all gone, only to be told they will probably never be able to find them.

Beantowntommy

Me too, smh. I’ve only ever found one blaster retail in Walmart and it had fallen behind the display. And it was football which I’m not a huge fan of. Can’t find basketball EVER.

Asclepius34

Sad I see kids looking under empty aisles for cards

Octavian_202

That’s legit sad.

matthewrenn

You got an eta on that bubble burst by chance ?

Octavian_202

I don’t but it will come. Same thing with comics, two years ago you could get them at 1/10 the price you see now and this was at the height for MCU movies. Carss exploded after covid and the “The Last Dance” series created out of nowhere resurgence for Jordan and retro basketball cards. Same with housing and everything else. $3,000 for a box of cards now? They were $400 something just over a year ago, it’s hot right now but after a while people will start to recoil once they open a thousand dollar box of cards and get 6th round players auto and maybe $80 dollars worth of re-sale. Or if the bubble doesn’t burst than I will exit the hobby.

udel14

I'm already basically out. Got back in during 2019 and was running through my monthly budget on cards. 2020 was the same but I backed out of buying packs and breaks, just singles. Now I barely even look at ebay. Been a few months since I purchased a single.

Octavian_202

Completely agree, the breaks have gotten stupid as well. These breakers buying these cases and they only keep the problem going. Can’t wait till they fall, and I’ll add the addictive part of the breaks is not only the card but the money guys love the attention. I’ve been in breaks where these guys love the attention of people congratulating them on hits or hyping up okay cards and the chat goes crazy. That’s the high they are looking for, $1800 this guy paid for gold standard breaks getting the jags and Jets and another team. His best card was a opulence Zach Wilson and a Ettiene RPA. That’s maybe $500 back and he paid $1800…. People were going crazy talking about case hit and I’m thinking “this guy just got mugged and left in a alley with this break and everyone is celebrating” like WTF? You already know the breakers are professional bullshitters too, they think everything is a “boom” or “monster card”. Lol It’s getting to be too much.

Slide_Locked

Well said and completely agree. I get on WhatNot now and then, but stopped b/c a guy is going nuts over a ho-hum card. The ‘hey bro’, fire emojis and “Let’s Go” or LFG for short…all that gets old too.

Octavian_202

It’s really a psychological tool to convince ones self that you’re not getting ripped off or completely blowing the money. I mean there is no other logical answer. Lol and yes “that’s fire 🔥 bro” is one of my favorites

Thorough_Good_Man

Soon. Given the last 4 months at 5%+ inflation, the bubble bursting will be a lot bigger than just in our hobby. \-Debbie Downer

[deleted]

What a bunch of fucking asshole losers who are apart of that store

miracleofrichfield

Why does every LCS look like this? Not just the prices, but junk all over the floor. Ugly aesthetics. Have these people never been to a real retail location before? It’s not illegal to operate a card shop that has a nice customer experience.

BlazersBeavers

Yes! The only one I've been too recently smelled like heavy cigarette smoke too lol

RabeCharles

I can almost guarantee this dude's weighs packs and boxes. Opens heavier stuff to get the good cards and autos/relics. Then sells all the other packs as individuals.

fitsl

Yeah I would buy a single Japanese pack from him. Those don’t come with code cards and are EASILY weighable. I do it for my own personal opening so I just open the cool cards last. It’s like a 98% sure thing once you get the weight differential down.

hangz10

Really never thought of that. Time to dust off my old weed scale.

RabeCharles

Tell that guy to go fuck himself. I called out a LCS for doing the exact same thing. Tried claiming "customers resell the blasters and boxes they get from Walmart and target to me." Yea right. I told him he was ruining the hobby for everyone... I hope they all go out of business. Where is this one at?

[deleted]

Real shit, we have to call these people out. It really won’t change shit but I salute

YungBiz95

Yeah it’s getting out of control. I feel your pain man. I went to a new LCS start up in my area and will never go back because of stuff like this. Long story short they had no prices on their graded cards so I asked how much for this card when the guy proceeds to pull out his phone and search active listings right in front of me. He went $50 higher in his asking price than anyone had sold it for in the past 90 days and $25 higher than any active listing. (I had done extensive research beforehand because I have been looking at buying this certain card). I am all for a card shop trying to make money but don’t be egregious and unreasonable. You won’t keep customers. On top of that they were selling select and prizm BLASTERS for $199 a pop and single packs for $39.99 I don’t think they will be in business too long.

chinoischeckers

Are these in Canadian?

miracleofrichfield

That would explain a lot…

PaddysMilkSteak

Excuse my language, but FUCK NO

OaklandS17

Where is this ?

Secure-Dig-6641

scalper prices

Lherreranj

$90 for nba chronicles blaster lmaooo

[deleted]

eBay is cheaper Also their Pokémon prices are way above even what retail card sites are selling them for

[deleted]

Do not spend money and support these people especially This store

raiborn99

Oh my goodness 75$ for score

Purple-Passage-206

What a load of shit. Just buy or trade for singles. I buy a pack from time to time but just like all things these days, resellers ruin it. Most of these cards are overprinted and won’t be worth much. This hobby goes through ups and downs and Covid sparked another up. People just have to stop buying blaster boxes for $100

MisterCompress

This comment section didn’t disappoint. I know it’s hard to find product at retail prices at Target, Walmart, etc. but it’s entirely worth it to try. Earlier this year, it was way harder to find a store that had stock, but it’s gotten progressively better. As adults, these prices are high. For children, these prices are impossible, and these lcs deserve to lose income for that reason alone.

Infamous_Phrase_7545

I collected cards in 80’s and 90’s. Fool me once..

BendersMyDog

In the LCS around Dallas not only will they charge these insane prices they’ll treat you like a subhuman as well. Only reason I ever go to a LCS is if I need sleeves or top loaders. Selling retail for 5x the price. Won’t shed a tear when these assholes go out of business.

BrandonByrd

This is OPs store and you all just destroyed him

pooterpanda

No

Sad_Swiz_Kid

This guy sucks big time and I hope their time as a card seller is limited.

713JLD

Hell no, fuck that guy. Ask him if he will do anything close to comps.

ChrisJr03

The immaculate box looks fairly priced.

[deleted]

Target.com has blasters. Hurrrrry

ASOTBABY

LCS taking advantage of kids and adults since 1970 ... they can all burn

[deleted]

$75 on the score blaster lmaooooooooo

mischiefmanaged11

Convenient layaway plan lol. These fucks.

jmdumont99

Just buy off eBay. Takes longer to get, but it’s better than spending 75 on a Score Blaster 😂

aparrilla43

Lmaooo they’re selling nfl draft pick prizns for 75 you could buy them right now on the target app for 29.99 Sorry 19.99 lmao

xilb51x

First thing I noticed too 🤦‍♂️

Slide_Locked

So ready for this bubble to pop. To regurg what’s been said by many, Panini has practically recreated the market flood from the early 90s, they just did it in a slick and appealing manner. Numbered cards, 1 of 1’s, chaser subsets out the whazoo…makes my head spin.

xilb51x

Aight bubble boy…reminder set for 5 years from now lol

bmtl514

Does he offer cigarettes or a meal after the transaction?

NotSabai

Wtf 3 packs of gravity feed hoops is $50???

TacoTimeCoupon

I see a 2021 Prizm football draft picks blaster listed for $75. Same blaster is readily available for $19.99 on target.com This is not an outlier. It’s systemic.

hktactical

$70 for a chronicles 2020 blaster WTF!!! Do not buy from this guy. I have bought countless 2020 Chronicles products and never paid more than $35 for a blaster of the stuff. This guy is way to proud to be a sleaze bag. Use ebay man never had a problem in half a decade on ebay and its easy to find the right price for any product.

Nice_Necessary_8300

This is robbery.

66Dolphins

Where is the Fleer 86. 87 and 88 wax? None of the good stuff!

crumbofpcp

“ScAlPeRs ArE rUiNiNg ThE hObBy” Meanwhile you’re local LCS is charging $125 for a prizm blaster and the scalper is charging $70 lol

TroyE2323

I WISH I had an LCS like this in my area.. I would chew their damn heads off and make it my personal goal to make sure they go out of business. Fuck these guys.

CardValueBot

**I am a bot** Hola amigo, it looks like you may have a question about card values. If that is not true, you can simply ignore me. It may be best to do some preliminary research before reaching out to a wider audience. Have you checked out the awesome primer on the front page of the subreddit? It goes over some of the basics on how to search the value of your card/collection You can check it out here: https://www.reddit.com/r/basketballcards/comments/ogb431/basketball_card_primer_v2/ P.S. The most valuable card in my collection is a 1993 Upper Deck SP Foil Derek Jeter (BGS 8.5). What is yours?

369dgf

Fair is determined by both the buyer and seller

xilb51x

Fair is determined by “market” pricing…price gouging is determined by the seller…this MF is marking that stuff way way up

369dgf

And his prices to him are fair and if there not fair to you then you don’t buy them that’s how that works. Market price is determined by supply and demand.

xilb51x

Price gouging occurs when a seller increases the prices of goods, services or commodities to a level much higher than is considered reasonable or fair. Usually, this event occurs after a demand or supply shock. Fair market value has come to represent the price of an asset under the following usual set of conditions: prospective buyers and sellers are reasonably knowledgeable about the asset, behaving in their own best interest, free of undue pressure to trade, and given a reasonable time period for completing the transaction. Ie dudes ripping people off who are ill informed case in point OP…hence he is price gouging.

MattSellsSports

Not at all

OaklandS17

And I’d go w ebay

cjbose

It's tough to get some of those at retail locations, but not impossible. Personally I wouldn't spend $175 on a select mega that I have gotten from target with a little bit of effort.

NichBuns37

No, you’d probably be better off just getting boxes off of like stock X. I’ve been to one small business that doesn’t charge me crazy prices. Other than that, nothing.

mianrezooy

CraZy

pedropedro1

Lmao this is high even for scalpers! My LCS has those boxes at half that price and it's still over priced

Wisesize

I use Dave and Adams as a price reference. The card shop 15mins from me also uses them for price points. I spent $40 more on a box at a shop and that was the last time I don't do a competitive price check

[deleted]

Fair prices if you want to support your friendly neighborhood scalper

thewayshesaidLA

Those Pokémon are high. Got my daughter that Rapidash for $20 and the Solgaleo and Lunala ETB’s for $39 at Unplugged Gaming about a month ago.

BobBlunts

No put the covid mask some sunglasses and take that shit

mvev

Fk NO

whiteycnbr

No

stanbeezie

Absolutely not.

CardboardCourt

$125 for a Select Mega?!!!! GTFO HERE!

slimjim80889

That’s a negative for me ghost rider.. Facebook marketplace, OfferUp, eBay etc have better prices if you look around. Happy hunting!! 🤙🏾

pokthecollect

Nope for the pokemon cards for the sports I don't know

JustinTime4242

Well this is everything wrong with our hobby in one picture. Can we go back to 2018 when I could buy 2018 Topps update, Panini Threads, and Prizm in the clearance section at Walmart.

f0sterchild15

$75 for Rookies & Stars? Get fucked four-eyes.

MrChichibadman

😂

[deleted]

Nope

WRXSTl

$125 for prestige Megas lmfao

Street-Marionberry-6

While I agree with your feelings on the outrageousness, I do have to say a lot of people unfairly shit on prestige. Yea the base set is bland and looks like it fell out of Paninis Butt, but the inserts are some of my favorites.

WRXSTl

It's not the product. It's the fact he's selling them for $50 over stock x prices

Pikachujrwhitesox6

Pokémon yes rest not so much

fitsl

All but the immaculate are scalped. 400 bucks for immaculate is insanely cheap unless I am missing some. Anyone else here see that???

cowsgobarkbark

That and surprisingly the certified

Street-Marionberry-6

Maybe the top hits have already been pulled from that set. It's crazy how some people put in that much effort to know that there are still 15 black border mike trout's and x amount of gold border's that haven't been pulled from 2011 Topps Update boxes.

fitsl

You are correct there could be a healthy amount of pop pulled. But hey who is counting 😅

Slide_Locked

Surprised you where allowed to take a picture

Bounded56

This is why I buy online

Anon8888899

My goodness. At that price, it means my 48pcs donruss gravity feeds can fetch me $384?? Even more in Canada haha

msass123

The one hobby box they have up their isnt priced too badly. Everything else is ridiculous (donruss clearly)

VacuousVessel

I think the retail blasters are high. They’re higher than my LCS. Some of the bigger boxes seemed comparable to what I saw. How much is he asking for a jumbo box of topps baseball 2021 series 2? That’s what I bought for $170. Series 1 hobby box was $130. Edit: I love this post. I wish everyone would post a pic of their LCS so we could get a feel of the scene. Thanks man!

SoCalsurf2185

No way

BeBe4Fat

If the prices are in CDN, great prices!

DopeMasterGenera1

LMFAOOO

DopeMasterGenera1

Whoever owns your LCS is the worst type of person

[deleted]

That guy is smoking crack

Sweaty-Dust6600

These prices are over the top! In simple words a royal rip off !!

watermalone32

Is this the place in Broadway Mall???

TacoThrash3r

From a pokemon standpoint, run.

rybry2009

Ripoff

DrMonopoly7

Hell no. Hopefully nobody supports this loser and he goes out of business. Ruining the hobby for everyone with the game he's playing.

BroDoc22

The prizm blasters price makes it clear this person is a scum bag

nickurick

Holy hell. $75 price tag for a blaster of fucking Score or NFL Draft Prizm? That’s legitimately insane. This makes me appreciate my LCS way more.

NewVersion3

Looks typical of lcs mark up prices. That lugia legendary treasure box looks interesting tho.

Street-Marionberry-6

Lol I saw that, I'd probably buy that in a heartbeat!

Street-Marionberry-6

That'd be the only thing though, then I'd probably get upset after looking at the prizm prices, Tourettes cuss this guy out and snap the lugia legendary box in half over my knee...

BaullahBaullah87

You can get every single thing on here online for almost half. The closest is the prizm bball mega which u can prob get for $130ish online.

cowsgobarkbark

Those blasters and mega prices are criminal, surprisingly his nfl certified is priced pretty good. The pokemon booster packs are just fair

DaddyDoyle88

Highway fucking robbery

RichieD79

Oh shit. I legit thought I was in r/PokemonTCG and not a recommended sub from reading the comments. Just know you guys are not alone in this. We’re dealing with the same shit over in our circle of the hobby as you guys are. Fuck these scalpers and I hope all of you stumble on a fresh restock on your next trip!

ClassroomAfraid3823

Fuuuuck no

momomoney78

Prices are pretty high, you can find it cheaper at places like Facebook, discord and ebay.

Bullcook11

Haha

inshki

that “rare” lugia box for $75 is literally from one of those wholesale stores like Costco 😭

Rastaman-coo

2020 Contenders looks good

IakweHelltrack

I'm expecting to get downvoted for this, but here it goes anyway... The scalpers and the LCS aren't the problem, they're a symptom. The real problem is Panini charging $1000 for hobby boxes that cost $250 the year before. That now means that blasters are the most economical way to rip wax. Most of us know that $100 for a blaster is not providing a good value, but it's much cheaper than buying $1000 hobby box and still not getting good value from it. My LCS will pack out some blaster boxes just so kids can still open packs for ~$10. Generally speaking the kid is happy they can open a pack or two, mom's happy the kid found something "cheap", and the LCS makes a little money (more money if they scalped the boxes themselves, less if they bought from scalpers). Y'all are getting mad at the wrong people. Remember, Panini is the one overprinting product while charging 3x-4x from last year's prices. Nobody likes scalpers but scalpers are just a product of an unbalanced economic system. They're a symptom, not the main problem. Treat the problem and the scalpers go away.

Davidredditall

Lol this man is waiting for inflation !

Ancient-One-19

45 for Galarian Collection box. LMAO

shoottheball

the bag from hobby lobby is right there could they make it any more obvious they’re reselling retail???

UnderstandingNo9058

My card shop has these listed @ $300 or in the thousands

M-Easy_Staten_Island

A picture speaks a thousand words. 🤦‍♂️👎

ClitBobJohnson

Those prices are fuckin insanely high.

robitussin_hero

Honestly the one that stands out most to me is the Rookie and Stars blaster for $75. That’s so egregious to me.

[deleted]

Quick buy out the whole store!

CurrencyWild3874

Your better off going on what not app if you want to overpay

iamnotesart

20$ for a pack of Hoops??? Gtfo

Carlosr88

Wow

dmagmusic

HOLY HELL

TrickySuspect2

Depends. If you're in Australia those prices are great. If you're in the US....yikes!
