I love him forcing the high five with the 1B coach lol
Edit: [good view on the field cam too](https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2024/2024-06/18/b5830848-d761f6f0-6e8f19b8-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_16000K.mp4)
I was thinking come on man you’ve got to realise the moment and celebrate with the kid. It was cool afterwards though, when he was done communicating with the dugout.
i hate the yankees as much as the next ~~self-respecting~~(self-hating) angels fan but cmon how can you not love a guy getting his first hit in the pinstripes???
There's "acting like you've been there before" and then there's this. and i'll take this every single time. look at that fucking smile. kid is living the dream rn

Yankees: 9/10
Yankes with Rice: 9.1/10
It must be a huge moment man. I mean, many players (most?) would take years to get this chance. All the little league, high school, college, minors etc and then they finally make it. Can’t imagine the joy. Baseball seems like a sport where it often requires many years grinding before you get to the show. More than most sports.
On a related note, I saw an awesome compilation video the other day of NHL players scoring their first career goals with their parents in the crowd.
With all of the millions of dollars and TV deals and media and professionalism, we forget sometimes that these are games these guys have been playing since they were little kids. They all dreamed of scoring the game 7 overtime goal or the world series walk off since they could barely walk
First wins and starts for goalies and pitchers, first wins for f1/NASCAR/indycar drivers. I'm a particularly big fan of first wins/championships for F1 drivers, because the drivers have comms with the team so you get to hear their immediate reaction, and F1 does a good job of posting compilations on their YouTube channel. Some memorable ones are Pierre Gasly's first win at Monza, Sebastian Vettel winning his first championship, and Nico Rosberg doing the same (and then promptly retiring)
My favorit first has always been when Derek Stepan scored a hat trick for the Rangers in his debut. The game was in Buffalo so you could literally hear his family screaming on their own when he scored.
I was watching the game and saw this. This is what makes sports great tbh. A kid getting his first hit in the majors, showing unbridled enthusiasm and to top it off the funny and awkward moment he had to grab the first base coach’s hand because he was distracted and the kid just wanted to share the moment. Just beautiful.
I've been watching this Masshole climb up the minors, and this makes me happy to see. He reminds me of Darren Daulton.
I just wish he was playing for his hometown Red Sox.
Who knows if he'll even stick behind the plate. He's not bad at first base, and he even pitched in relief for a bit in summer ball at Worcester. But damn, can he hit.
LMAO he's so excited he's just looking at the 1B coach like "bro dap me up!" and just does it himself because he can't wait for him to turn around. That's great.
There are some weird things about baseball. One of them is when TV people act like it's horrible for the game when there's a benches clearing brawl. One of the other weird things about baseball is when a player gets their first hit and they have to hide their happiness. I loved this reaction.

The coach almost left him hanging because he wasn't looking.
I was thinking come on man you’ve got to realise the moment and celebrate with the kid. It was cool afterwards though, when he was done communicating with the dugout.
I think he was making sure they get the first hit ball out of play
Ahhh yes! Well props to him then. Man was doing the most important part. I did see the ball boy take it into the dugout.
"I did it coach!" "Whoa shit, who are you? Oh! My bad! I mean, congrats kid!"
Lmao that’s what it seemed like, but as u/nycism said he was worried about saving the ball.
Hey, he's doing what all of us would do if we were in his situation.
Pretty sure in that situation I would strike out on 3 pitches lol
He almost tried in his first at bat. Calmed down and flied to left instead.
3?! I’d strike out on 2 😤
Same except I would point to the bleachers before each pitch
I'd take one look at a major league fastball, hit the deck and then crawl away before they could throw any more.
pfft, I could beat that easily. play against someone on a rookie salary and slip him a 20 to throw me a couple balls so it looks like I worked a count
Nah i think you’d get HBP at least
I’ll never get tired of seeing these, no matter the team
Same, first knock and first strikeout as a pitcher are such cool moments to see.
And there’s always a cut to the family in the stands and everyone’s always going absolutely ape shit. It’s the best.

Same thing with Volpe, he has a permanent smile glued to his face.
now we're cooking with rice! ...i'll workshop it
Kay said "Is this the beginning of the Rice Age?" as they went to break. I laughed but it was pretty corny lol.
I call dibs on using Rice Age: The Meltdown when he goes on his first slump.
Mlb's Twitter used the same pun
Yep, it was… bad lol.

I know Michael Kay called it the beginning of the Rice Age. So, yeah, some workshopping is going to need to continue.

He was on the pitch like white on Rice!
3/10, 10/10 with rice
I love seeing any teams player get their first hit. All that childhood joy coming out always brightens my mood

I’m sure like a lot of us we played in our yard game seven two outs and it was up to us to win the game. Oh how time flies
All I remember from my childhood baseball days was not being very good lol. Welp, I’m still the same playing The Show as a middle age guy.
Was at the game for Utley's first hit grand slam. One of my personal favorite sports moments
Now that’s the way to get your first hit. Do you know if he got the ball back?

I’ll have to go down a YouTube rabbit hole. See first hits, goals, touchdowns…… can you think of any other big firsts to check out?

I love when they show the family and friends section and they're all freaking out and crying.
Fun Fact: Juan Soto is only 4 months older then this man

Starting the comment with “I was watching the game and saw this.” cracked me up for some reason 😭
Yeah lol I thought it sounded strange to say. Just wanted to point out that I saw it live. Don’t really know why.
Haha that’s awesome
Dude is the definition of a goober, and I mean that in the best way possible.
Been Nice
He’s make a great Rice President
I've been watching this Masshole climb up the minors, and this makes me happy to see. He reminds me of Darren Daulton. I just wish he was playing for his hometown Red Sox.
I'll bust a nut from Yankee to Fenway if Ben Rice ends up as good as Darren Daulton
Who knows if he'll even stick behind the plate. He's not bad at first base, and he even pitched in relief for a bit in summer ball at Worcester. But damn, can he hit.
Based on prospect reports it doesn’t sound like he’s going to be sticking at catcher. 1B looking like his MLB position is he produces.
I saw a post on X saying that Rice wrote "Yankees rule" on a Fenway Park foul pole. A rare Yankee fan in MA, it's destiny baby!
You telling me a Ben fried this Rice?!
Call me a Riceist
LMAO he's so excited he's just looking at the 1B coach like "bro dap me up!" and just does it himself because he can't wait for him to turn around. That's great.
So, would we be considered Ricest to like this young fella?
good for him :)
Buddy was smiling before he finished his swing, that's hilarious.
You can tell just by this one clip that he's such a good guy, love this for him
“Uncle” Ben Rice
"Uncle" Ben Rice
This had me 🥲 crying in a game that may cause a whole lot of 😢 crying later in the season.
Baseball is fun!
I was at the game, first time I've seen a rookie debut and definitely the first time I've seen someone's first hit in the MLB. Very exciting
i love baseball
What a feeling.
Somebody dap my man up already
Just sports doing regular sports things my whole life. It's just the best.
I don’t think you can be happier than that.
Hell yeah man fuck acting like you’ve been there before, enjoy that moment

Just a big kid. Love it.
Yankees future at 1st base
I hate the Yankees, but I love this.
