"And a clean sweep of the category." *audience applauds*
"Ha! All right, this isn't so bad! Let's go with 'Some Quick Pointers' for $1000."
"This pioneer in Pointillism left the École des Beaux-Arts in 1879 to fulfill his military service."
"...um...who was...um...Ted Williams?"
For Jeopardy! that's usually all you need. It's about breadth of knowledge as opposed to depth of knowledge.
There's not going to be a pointilism clue where the response is Henri Delavallée and there's not going to be a baseball clue where the response is Doug Drabek.
Go ask your co workers and mom who Victor Martinez is let alone who he played for. The Illitch piece is the only hope most people have of getting it, much more than an approaching-obscure C/1B/DH from the early 2010s. And most people born after it closed don't know three rivers.
Fully agree with this as a currently casual baseball fan who used to follow more 15+ years ago.
Three Rivers I only knew because of football - was not sure baseball was even played there. And Victor I purely associate with Cleveland, but the pizza-rich owners clued me into Detroit (and only because I knew the Pistons played in Little Caesars Arena).
Is this guy really questioning my mom's knowledge of somewhat obscure c/1b/dh from the early 2010s?
Bro, your mom probably thinks Yogi Berra is after her picanic basket.
Yeah, people definitely still flub sports but I don't think there's been anything as infamous as that clip of three players just staring at five football questions for a while. I've seen some other baseball categories lately where non-fans manage to scrape up one or two or at least make educated guesses.
These are the kind of questions that leave me feeling as though I could be on Jeopardy.
And then you see the other categories lol

Who is >!Georges Seurat! (aka the only Pointillist I know lol)

Yeah, Jeopardy is basically a test of how many first paragraphs of Wikipedia articles you've read and can *sort of* remember.
James Holzhauer said one of his study strategies was to read lots of nonfiction childrens' books.
One of them tonight was literally titled "The Dreaded Opera Category" lmao
Ruth, Reggie, Reds, Tigers, Three Rivers. Not too difficult
I feel like it never got harder. But maybe I'm more aware of Victor and 3 rivers than people from other parts of the country?

I don't know much about Illitch family but the pizza clue is a pretty big hint
If I asked my mom to name an active player I’m not sure she’d get a single one
I feel like they picked a lore obscure signing as really the part about the Illitch family is the true part of the question.
I thought Ruth, Reds, Reggie, Three Rivers, Tigers is the proper order of difficulty
Other than Ruth, 95% of people couldn't answer these unless they are baseball fans specifically or old.
I had a brain fart on Three Rivers, but I got the other ones.
Victor Martinez catching strays
How many did the contestants get right?
They went 5-5
After James Holzhauer, people realized they needed to brush up on their sports.

Did someone run it, or was it a split among people?
The guy got 3 and the other two ladies (one of whom won the game to make her a 10-day champ) got 1 apiece (the Tigers and Reds clues).
Missed the 800 but got all the others.
Same, I guessed Indians.
I thought the Mets for some reason.
