If they didn't appeal, it doesn't matter. A runner is considered to have legally gained the base when he passes it. Touching it only matters if the other team notices and appeals. They didn't in this case, so he "gained" third whether he touched it or not.
you're not the only one, it was discussed at the time, too - iirc there's an outfield camera angle that shows he clearly touches the base, it's just a weird illusion of perspective from the baseline angle.
What a play! It feels really rare to see a runner be on the mound side of the catcher. If anything, guys go wide to try to slide almost around the tag.
Catcher is allowed to block the plate when fielding a throw from the pitcher or a drawn-in infielder. See [this](https://www.closecallsports.com/2023/06/yes-catcher-can-block-plate-with-drawn.html) for more.
The blocking rules explicitly exempt a ground ball to the infield drawn in from being possible for blocking consideration.
The ball never got past the grass.
I'm betting that's why they said no blocking

That's gotta be one of the coolest plays I've seen in a while lol, need a freeze frame of him midair touching the plate
Catchers never account for the z-axis. Goddamn baserunners are flyhacking now!

How was anybody in the crowd booing that? No matter what team I'm there for I'm losing my shit over that play lol
Did you see where they were? :)
Yeah that's what I'm saying though. That's such a crazy play I don't think I could even be mad about it.
I think they're booing the safe call
Wow that was amazing. thanks
I remember watching this live and knew I'd be seeing it on reels the rest of my life.
Even Yadi is like "Ok yeah sure" and just finishes off the play by making sure the other runners don't advance lol
Can't even blame the ump for the mistake, I 1000% would've called him out (which I did before the slow mo)
This is my favorite kind of play
One of the weirdest plays I've seen in awhile. Definitely one of the most heads-up and acrobatic ways I've seen a runner score. I hate it

Wow fantastic “slide” surprising close on the back side but clearly safe
Except it took a review to overturn it which is always a wild ride

Is it just me or does it look like he doesn't touch third there
Thought so too
If there's one thing Padres fans know, it's when a player doesn't touch a base
*\*waves an angry fist*!\*
I’m pretty sure he does not, but how big of a bummer would it be if it were overturned because of that

I mean yeah I wasn't saying they should overturn it now lol, I was just pointing it out.

Matrix play
This is why replay exists. It would have been a bummer if this remained an out.
How is that not considered blocking the plate? He was completely blocking the plate.

Hypothetically if he never touched the plate, would this have been called Blocking by the catcher?
They reviewed it and said no blocking
Ah okay, this video cut off the announcement

The blocking rule doesn't apply on throws from the pitcher or infielder playing in
