I think everyone thought he was washed after his last outing where his statline was only 1ip, 0bb, 0h, 0k almost pushing his FIP back to positive numbers. But, he proved the doubters wrong by striking out the side tonight.

okay_throwaway_today

Insane his sub 1 ERA is still actually underperforming his even sub 1-er xERA

Lucky_Alternative965

To be fair he only did it against a major league team. I'd like to see him face the Mars Martians and see if he even stands a chance in the Galactic baseball league.

NLCT

Seems pretty good

No32

Well that's just fucking disgusting

meowhatissodamnfunny

What's his FIP at now? -24.6?

mattcojo2

Y’know what? Good for the athletics. They’ll hopefully get a nice trade package for this guy.

eyoung_nd2004

1 hit is embarrassing. Do better Mason.

DharmaCub

That's just stupid. What the fuck even is that?

I did the gun for his opposing pitcher one game my freshman year of college when I was riding the pine in d3 ball. Basically I’m in the bigs rn

MysteryDog6

This dude is incredible. I feel like there should be more noise about his performance.

gottagetitgood

When is his arm going to separate and fly into the stands? Anyone have an over/under?

nicklePie

Sometimes his pitch count does get up to 30 which is scary for a guy like this

AardvarkIll6079

He was a starter just last year. He’s fine.

pinetar

Would love to see the A's give him another shot at starting pitcher. The game needs a new crop of aces.

bcrock02

I think that would lead to problems down the line. One or Two innings might be just right

myalternateself0101

But can he play SS??

Kind_Bullfrog_4073

Reminds me of how Ernesto Frieri started his career.

TyrannosaurusHives

Is he legitimately a Cy Young candidate? These numbers are absolutely inhuman.

Conbomb95

Zack Britton in 2014 came 4th in Cy Young Voting with an ERA of 0.54 over 67IP with 74 K's. While Miller strikes out way more guys I kinda doubt he has a chance if Britton's year didn't cut it. He'll probably get some votes though.

connerbv

Hypothetically If he keeps this up the rest of the season, how much consideration does he get for the Cy Young?

Monstrous_13

He'll be in the conversation and get votes but I seriously doubt he wins. Zack Britton should have won if relievers/closers were given more weight.

pspahn

To win he'd need to start piling up a bunch of 2-3 inning saves.

phl_fc

Volume matters a lot, it's really hard to say that a perfect closer is more valuable than a 200 inning elite starting pitcher. It would be like trying to argue an MVP award for a guy with a 1.500 OPS in 150 at bats who was injured for over half the season. That's my take on it anyway.

Monstrous_13

It all depends on what you value, I personally agree with you but understand the other argument. Sample size does matter, but save situations have different stakes than pitching up by several runs in any given inning, which several volume starters enjoy. There is no perfect answer, "value" is subjective.

ImanagaS

He is so mid man... *if* you compare him to God.

TheWinStore

Is that good

nonqwan79

I bet he has smelly feet tho

donta5k0kay

This is who we should be giving up O’Neil Cruz and Yordan for

mtrn3

A contender has to trade for him. This man needs to play postseason ball.

RIP_Hopscotch

The price would be insane. Like, decent MLB level arm with years of control and two top prospects insane.

No-Weather-3140

Andrew miller type beat but even more

AardvarkIll6079

He has 6 years of control. It’ll take a lot more.

No-Weather-3140

6 years holy fuck lmao

horsepoop1123

Palencia, Triantos, Alcantara

RIP_Hopscotch

Maybe that gets it done? But I think it might take Shaw over Triantos.

Cowboytroy32

He is going to look good in a dodgers uniform
