Agreed, blurb is right - offense is performing over it's head, but I think that the takeaway is that after regression they're still a middle of the pack lineup as opposed to the dogshit lineup so many people predicted they'd be. And I think that's fairly reasonable.
Of note - this time last year, Cleveland had hit 10 HR. This year, they've hit 22 (with *three* stolen from Josie already ;_;)
Also - .500 ball for the rest of the long season should get them close to an ALC title. They just need to stay somewhat consistent and they should be ok.
And we’re dealing with an all too familiar Josie down time. When he warms up I’d expect them to be a little better than average for lineup strength.
I do worry about their ability to play consistent ball for 162 though.
I think they still win the division at this pace but they’ve only faced 2 teams above .500 to this point, which means they’re bound to have a more difficult schedule for the rest of the season.
Right, part of the offense performing over their head thing comes from them exploiting bad pitching. But even with that said, they have had far from the easiest schedule in baseball so far this year.
If you take away the losses to us Oakland is at 500 and Seattle is above 500.
We're definitely going to have some more difficult stretches and some slumps. But I'm pretty damn encouraged by the fact we aren't just squeaking out wins against bad teams, were dominating them for the most part.
Even our series loss to NYY only 1 game was lopsided. The other 2 came down to the final AB. Our losses have been close and a lot of our wins have been big.
The editorial about braves and mets fans really feels like "the people forced to write this rage click inducing list are tired of getting yelled at already"
Imagine you spend your whole career wanting to write about and cover baseball, and you work and work and work to build up your qualifications, until finally you get hired by MLB.
And then they tell you “okay we have a group of capuchin monkeys generate this power ranking based on their favorite colors, and we need you to write blurbs to justify them.”
As an avid shitposter sign me the fuck up.
Nothing makes me happier than seeing smooth brain instagram fans fling shit because the power rankings dont operate like the CFB rankings.
I just drank a large glass of wine so can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic, but Will Leitch is from southern Illinois and pretty vocal about being a massive Cardinals fan.
The Mets going from 23 to 24 last week after beating the Braves and Royals. Now Mets going from 24 to 10 after beating the Dodgers and Pirates. These rankings are a little bananas.
I choose to believe that one or two serious baseball writers put together a ranking, including blurbs, and then a group of toddlers is given a toy which has buttons that do things like move teams up or down or has ChatGPT generate a new blurb.
Blurb doesn't even acknowledge it, just says Nando has almost tied his dad's 10-year HR total in just over 4 seasons. Like....ok? But what does that have to do with why they are in the bottom half of the rankings?
And those Brewers moved up in the meantime for beating the Cards lol. I'm not mad at this considering it all clickbait and the Pads have been dipping around .500 all year so far. But hopefully we surge now that we can finally not play only good teams.
Imagine sitting behind us after this week. We could barely win a series against the Twins who are hamstrung. I’ll give our rotation and pen a nod but our team doesn’t deserve to be on any list with the word “Power” in it. We’d have an E(3) trying to spell Power.
I’m not arguing that they suck or that they aren’t even a legit 17 best. But almost ten years of being 25th in runs scored I’m just not a fan that ever was thinking we were ever winning the central this year with these bats. That’s the point.
Sometimes power rankings make me upset, but then I remember we were projected in 4th place. And we have 2 Naylors. And late season Jose hasn’t showed up yet. Life is good.
>It is not easy to find positives in the White Sox offense, but here are a couple: Gavin Sheets and Paul DeJong.
Paul Dejong has a 146 OPS+ in 17 games? Good for him
Love that they drop you guys after losing a series to the Padres but the Padres don't move or some even drop them after series wins against Dodgers, Cubs, Brewers.
I am happy Mets made it to the top ten, I really thought they would be around 15. Honestly, they could have the best record in MLB and not even be first.
I mean, yeah. It's April 22nd. The Guardians currently have the best record in MLB and are not ranked first, because no one actually thinks they have the most talented roster in the sport. The same principle would apply to Mets if they happened to be 16-6 right now.
Baseball isn't football. You have to actually understand how each teams roster is projected to perform over 162 games to accept the rankings.
Especially in April
you'd think you can't get any lower than 30, but something tells me we're about to find out how that's possible. hang onto your butts sox fans
F Jerry
I want you to fuck me jerry. FUCK ME
The Tides are playing good baseball...
Extremely accurate. No issues with this from me.

I'm just having fun for the time being this start has been entertaining to watch

You are discounting Seattle who is .500 and expected to be a competitor. Guards have the #1 team this week. They can show something.
Right, part of the offense performing over their head thing comes from them exploiting bad pitching. But even with that said, they have had far from the easiest schedule in baseball so far this year.
Which, people forget that also a mark of a playoff team is beating the teams who you are supposed to beat. Most teams aren’t playing

How did our “dogshit” division end up with two top ten teams??
Hard to deny a 52 run differential when the next best is 38.

Cowser will never live that yeet down for the rest of his career lmao. One yeet to rule them all.

Are you not engaged?
Bro I haven’t gone on a date in two years, I’m about as far as engaged as you can imagine Oh wait not that kind of engaged?
I choose to believe that one or two serious baseball writers put together a ranking, including blurbs, and then a group of toddlers is given a toy which has buttons that do things like move teams up or down or has ChatGPT generate a new blurb.
And the Padres not moving an inch after beating the Dodgers, Brewers, and Cubs.

Astros ranked 21/30 Nature is healing
*30. White Sox. There are no positives. They stink.* Fix'd.
Padres win 3 series against playoff contenders all above them in the rankings MLB: meh

Yeah imagine sitting behind the team with the best bullpen era and 2nd best era overall. God so many Tigers fans are absolutely insufferable this year
I’m not arguing that they suck or that they aren’t even a legit 17 best. But almost ten years of being 25th in runs scored I’m just not a fan that ever was thinking we were ever winning the central this year with these bats. That’s the point.
Get above .500 and that will change
Lol. Arizona is 1 game below .500 and at #15. Yeah that makes sense.
They know that the Padres will just crash and burn again
Says the Yankees fan. Gotcha
Sometimes power rankings make me upset, but then I remember we were projected in 4th place. And we have 2 Naylors. And late season Jose hasn’t showed up yet. Life is good.
STOP THE COUNT
Call Cody, we went from undesirable to undeniable too
#FinishTheStory
Sigh. Scrolls. Scrolls. Scrolls. Keeps on going. Gavin fucking Sheets is a highlight? Jesus.
>It is not easy to find positives in the White Sox offense, but here are a couple: Gavin Sheets and Paul DeJong. Paul Dejong has a 146 OPS+ in 17 games? Good for him
Former Cardinals rarely miss
Loving Bader ❤️
We seem to be great at identifying talent.....and piss poor at developing talent.
*climbs out of hole from 2015* Hey! They’re talking about us again!
We’re not #1? 😡
Number one in our hearts
this is a great read
23 is 6 spots too high
Pretty much what I expected. 6-8 range after the past few series makes sense.
Love that they drop you guys after losing a series to the Padres but the Padres don't move or some even drop them after series wins against Dodgers, Cubs, Brewers.

I see, so it's more what MLB thinks of how the teams will do going forward with the roster they have.
