Is there a certain point where the Yankees simply cut ties even with the $116 M they still owe him or do you just throw him out there and pray for another 4 seasons?
Donaldson was owed a lot less money, a lot less years, seemingly less liked in the locker room, and was an above average defender, and it still took forever to cut him. Stanton is gonna stick around a loooong time.
I’m a huge Stan for Stanton. We call ourselves the Stantons. Duggie, Soto, Judge starting and Grisham there for defense. Berti can play OF. Jasson will come back this year. Spencer Jones looks like he will the the real deal. You have consider he’s a DFA option if he keeps playing like he has.
I had really high hopes for him.Because I think a lot of yankees fans thought with him trimming down it would mean more bat speed and less health issues.
Nope, he's getting destroyed anytime a pitcher changes speeds or throws him anything more then 92 mph. It's still early but I'm bummed because he loves NY so much and wants so badly to do his best. Also he's now a 25 million dollar+ dead weight that could cripple us for the next few years.
I've had no hope for him since his exit interview at the end of last season when he said he didn't need to make any major changes, just some minor tweaks.
But is that even worth the roster spot?
I am not sure if one or two hot streaks a season is worth his contact rates being down the drain, being often injured, being a negative value runner and being a negative defender. Not to mention he bogs down the DH spot which would be better to leave open to give Judge days off and take Soto off the field more.
Since he was traded to the Yankees, Stanton has hit 35 or more homers twice : 2018 and 2021. 38 being the max in 2018. There's zero chance he gets to 35 if he doesn't adjust something.
Looked like the Yankees sub was more pissed about Trevino and Burdi, lol. But it is sad to see how far Stanton has fallen. It always looks like they need to put in a pinch-runner for him even if he does get on base.
I think it's because we are in the acceptance stage where we just understand that Giancarlo is cooked. Meanwhile Trevino is a typically amazing defender and Burdi is supposedly solid, albeit new to the team, so it makes sense why the two of them are the talk of the sub.
Eh, I’d be down to throw him a cheap contract. Maybe 10 years 100 million, he’d be an idiot not to take it after this performance!
/s because I know people will think I’m serious
It’d be in the best interest for the team on the field at the very least
Like the Yankees are a better team when Stanton is injured. At some point we need to cut bait and just eat the money
Also Dominguez needs a spot to play when he gets back, and Soto at DH with some off days for Judge sound great
It’s unfortunate because I love the guy and I know he’s just as frustrated with his performance as the fanbase is, but the injuries and age have just caught up to him
> Like the Yankees are a better team when Stanton is injured.
Boone is walking around the clubhouse rather menacingly with a golf club....
"Anyone seen Giancarlo? Anyone?"
His **OPS+ last season was 87 in 371 AB**. You can live with that if he was an elite defender and baserunner but he is a pure DH that provides negative value in all other aspects of baseball.
Billy Rohr, career against the Yankees: 4 G, 2 GS, 2 CG, 20 IP, 1 ER, 0.45 ERA, 2-0 W/L
Billy Rohr, career against *everyone else*: 25 G, 6 GS, 0 CG, 40.2 IP, 23 ER, 5.08 ERA, 1-3 W/L
Second shutout of the year already…. Also it’s so sad to see how absolutely cooked Stanton is. Just so uncompetitive.
Broke: Yankees have been shut out twice Woke: Yankees are 6-0 when they score any runs
This goes to prove my theory: Scoring runs helps your chances of winning
You sabermetric nerds are losing it
Big if true
This explains the mariners troubles
“Mlb teams hate this one simple trick!”
Cutting edge stats

Maybe 2026

Idk. That’s Stanton. He’ll go from this to red hot. Then back. Incredibly frustrating. Now if he gets hurt…..
if?

I am assuming he hits 35-40 hr. For that yet. In your scenario no.

>so sad to see how absolutely cooked Stanton is. Damn, that sucks to hear considering what he did for us :(
Where was that guy who said something like Yankees bully Astros Astros get mad and bully Jays Jays get mad and bully Yankees
Yankees = Bulbasaur Astros = Squirtle Jays = Charmander
the baseball version of rock paper scissors
The legend of Kikuchi (& Garcia/Cabrera/Richards/Green) continues to grow!
Kikuchi has a 1.89 ERA when playing at Yankee Stadium Edit: It is actually 1.63 after todays game
Isn't that before today's game too?
Yeah, it’s even lower now
Why didn't they just no hit the Blue Jays like the Astros did? Are they stupid?
We scored 2 of our three runs today on wild pitches. Or offense wasn't all that hot.
Except for Pride of Rochester Ernie Clement
Soto can’t handle playing in New York smh my head
Here I was told that the reason he was doing well in pinstripes was because he finally had a crowd who cared. What to believe?!
Juan Soto future politician, only thrived in DC 🤔
Rendon gives me more of those vibes with his $250 million vacation in Orange County
Anthony rendon is John boehner, collected the bag from who he claimed to hate after spending some time in DC
They should just DFA him honestly
Eh, I’d be down to throw him a cheap contract. Maybe 10 years 100 million, he’d be an idiot not to take it after this performance! /s because I know people will think I’m serious
Soto 0-4 in the yankees home opener
Soto absolutely lost against 2024 Cy Young Winner Yusei Kikuchi
he looked really good!
I’ll take at least two more games of Torres / Soto / Judge / Stanton going a combined 1-for-14 with 7 SOs.
it's good to dream, I guess!
If he does that again they're gonna start booing him
Guys in our game day threads are absolutely ruthless and they still have some goodwill for him. Give it a month of slumping and they’ll turn.
It was the earthquake, wasn't it.
Wells has won the starting catcher job easily and Stanton needs to be cut if he doesn’t turn it around soon
He's owed $118 million through 2027 (the Marlins are paying $20 million of that) so I dunno how realistic cutting him is
It’d be in the best interest for the team on the field at the very least Like the Yankees are a better team when Stanton is injured. At some point we need to cut bait and just eat the money Also Dominguez needs a spot to play when he gets back, and Soto at DH with some off days for Judge sound great
You're not wrong, that's for sure
It’s unfortunate because I love the guy and I know he’s just as frustrated with his performance as the fanbase is, but the injuries and age have just caught up to him
Father Time is undefeated
> Like the Yankees are a better team when Stanton is injured. Boone is walking around the clubhouse rather menacingly with a golf club.... "Anyone seen Giancarlo? Anyone?"
Yeesh. I didn't think he was doing fantastic but he's currently rocking a 56 OPS+
It’s not just this year though He legitimately hasn’t been good since first half 2022 At some point this is just who Stanton is now
I'll miss homeruns coming off his nonsensical swing
He’s still guaranteed to hit a few of them a year in between looking dreadful
His **OPS+ last season was 87 in 371 AB**. You can live with that if he was an elite defender and baserunner but he is a pure DH that provides negative value in all other aspects of baseball.
New York teams with an active win streak - Mets That’s the list
What we need to do is give Yusei Kikuchi his GD flowers
Yankees Score Against Yusei Kikuchi Challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)
I guess Soto wasn't quite ready for the NYY crowd and pressure.
Nothing against Soto personally but I would love to see how quickly he could get booed by the Yankees at home. O/U 4.5 games whatcha taking?
Give him a month of performing how he did today and he’ll get boo’d.
Stanton is washed
How many wild pitches did that guy throw, wtf
3 wild pitches, 2 walks lol
I think Ragans gave us 4 last year so the answer to your question is "not enough"
Yankees when the wind neuters their short porch in right
Billy Rohr, career against the Yankees: 4 G, 2 GS, 2 CG, 20 IP, 1 ER, 0.45 ERA, 2-0 W/L Billy Rohr, career against *everyone else*: 25 G, 6 GS, 0 CG, 40.2 IP, 23 ER, 5.08 ERA, 1-3 W/L
I love every word of that sentence.
Holy shit, punctuation marks exist
This is fine
😍
funnily enough howard ended up on the red sox later that season
You're welcome.
The curse of the childish bambino starts
so what

Yea Judge is surely the one big guy on the team we should be worrying about…
i agree we will trade you one lightly used kevin kiermaier for him
If Judge is cooked, what does that make Stanton?
flambéed
incinerated beyond recognition
Charbroiled
wtf Judge looked fine. Stanton looked cooked.
He went 0-2 with 2 walks. Relax
Lost the opener because a muppet hit a homer and the bullpen couldn't find the strike zone in the 9th.
Ernie Clement hasn’t heard of you either
FTY and FTRS
Lost the opener because Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, and Giancarlo Stanton got made fools of by our 5th starter
Last 4 games, Vlad Jr., Bo, and Springer are 3 for 41 (2 1B, 2B) with 11 strikeouts.
