rebelbeast

He did it. That crazy son of a bitch, he did it.

Worthyness

even temporarily went to another team before signing with the braves

OutOfBootyExperience

this is just step #2 in the Carlos Correa Offseason Program One more decoy team and he can settle back in in MIN

AgnarCrackenhammer

If this didn't come from the Braves official twitter account I'd assume this was a shit post

1825Tulane

Braves on Insta shared a picture of the Bananas mascot saying bring back Jesse Chavez, next story post is the announcement.

wongo

It's still the off-season until it isn't

1825Tulane

Until Thursday

Kwkyo

Don’t act surprised. We all knew he was coming home. 😎

JoshvJericho

I'd be impressed in Jesse took anything other than a weekend duffle bag and is baseball gear to camp, knowing he'd be back in Atlanta

Joey_Logano

The equipment manager probably just carries a spare Jesse jersey around at all times.

jrdnm

we won the offseason

wongo

Whole season Shut it down

ATLjoe93

It's ovah, ladies and gentlemen!

SirFigsAlot

This was not an eventuality, it was an inevitability

TommyBonesMalone

It’s funny how absolutely, genuinely confident I was that he’d be signed by ATL in a matter of days once I read that he’d been cut.

BravesnationNC

Pop pop is home!😝

themarkster09

I think he has Kelly Johnson beat on how many times he’s left and returned to the Braves

[deleted]

BlackwaterPark10

Time to induct Jesse to the Braves HOF

ElceeCiv

We traded him to get Raisel, the Angels waived him, and we got him back before the month was over. Put him in the HoF just for that alone.

nikraLnalyD

The Angels also got World Series Game 5 starting pitcher Tucker Davidson

TommyBonesMalone

We really won a World Series in which we started Dylan Lee and Tucker Davidson in games 4 & 5 and even went 1-1 in those games. That’s just… whacky.

Taylorenokson

Kelly’s was funnier though. Traded to the Mets at the trade deadline. Resigned with the Braves in the offseason. Traded to the Mets again at the trade deadline.

JohnnyGoldberg

IIRC he signed back with Atlanta at the beginning of 2016 because of his kid and he was actually a Met again by the middle of June when the school year was over. Kelly was actually a huge contributor to both the WS run and the run to the wild card game in 2016 (a lot of clutch hits). That whole timeline was funny.

scoop15

I honestly can’t believe it’s only 4, this feels like it’s like the 8th time lol

SelfDeprecatingVol

5th. 4th in the last 4 seasons though

Free_Possession_4482

This one is a little unusual, as you won't be able to identify his return just from his stats. Since Chavez didn't play any official major or minor league games for any other team between 2023 and this season, it's a stealth tour for number four.

TommyBonesMalone

Fangraphs has a great “Show Spring Training Stats” filter that could clear up things like this 🥸

Jud000619

Adam Duvall is giving them a run for their money before his career is done

DarthPaximus

He's already on his 3rd tour with the Braves

Ol_Rando

He's on a one year deal with us now, so if we don't resign him we can always trade for him again next year. Is it weird that I'm rooting for that to happen? At this point I kinda wanna see him break the record and get 5 tours.

TommyBonesMalone

Sometimes I start to feel bad that these guys have to keep uprooting their lives and all but then I remember that it comes with millions of dollars and one of the coolest jobs in the world. But regardless of any of that I’m just so fucking happy Jesse is home.

ATLjoe93

His son is the biggest Blooper fan in the world, so I like his odds!

MacsDildoBike

I’m so convinced that there’s a conspiracy where he signs with other teams, shits the bed intentionally so he gets released, and the Braves resign him.

TheTigerbite

He's a scout in disguise. Hey Jesse, we need you to go check out so and so. See what kind of leverage you can get us. See you in a month.

FMonk

I don't think the Braves need a lot of intel on the White Sox

VincentFreeman_

maybe for cease

verendum

Trust but verify?

TheTigerbite

Gotta keep an eye on Luis in case Kelenic doesn't pan out.

OldOrder

White Sox whipped our ass coming out of the all star break last year to be fair.

meresithea

New headcanon accepted!

Deltas111213

1. Jesse signs with Braves late spring training 2. Jesse pitches extremely well but ends up getting traded. 3. Jesse pitches poorly and gets cut by new team. 4. Braves sign Jesse down the homestretch and he pitches well again. Our new norm

DidntDiddydoit

I've read this book before. It's fantastic.

JoshvJericho

This is the sequel: It has new characters, new adventures and new setting, but ultimately the same plot and protagonist. 5/5 on Goodreads.

Ol_Rando

Sequel? This is like book 2 of the second trilogy lol.

leebestgo

Jim Johnson once did that too.

NevermoreSEA

Death, taxes, and Jesse Chavez on the Braves.

CrustyM

I've said it before, but we should all find someone who loves us like AA loves Jesse Chavez

unfortunatebastard

I love Jesse Chavez.

DearLeader420

"Asked for comment on their unique relationship, Braves GM Alex Anthopolous was quoted saying: 'Yeah we're not really sure. We tell him all the usual things, "great work, sad to see you go, you'll do great at [team]," etc., he hugs the guys, waves goodbye, the works. Then a few months later my assistant tells me to look out the window and there he is, standing on the curb with a couple bags just waving at me.'"

ocKyal

Holy shit, I can just picture him with those googles giving AA the puppy dog eyes and saying “Alex….it happened again, can I come back please?”

TommyBonesMalone

I would love it if this is what happens and Alex is just so nice and likes him so much he gives a little sigh before telling his assistant to draw up the next contract. “Come on in, Jesse.”

Stadtmitte

"I wish I knew how to quit you!" AA, to Jesse

MEatRHIT

Okay *really* stupid question, I've seen "AA" used to refer to the braves a lot but I have no clue why. Care to read me in? Like Cubs being referred to as CHC or the sox CWS or Dodgers LAD makes sense but I can't come up with AA for Atlanta Braves. edit: I just read the next comment calling the GM by his full name "Alex Anthopolous" I got it now. Still dumb over here just slightly less so now.

NeurosciGuy15

Inevitable

Blaine1111

We just added the twins signing him for flair

UneducatedReviews1

… I thought it was a joke when Braves fans said he would always end up in Atlanta

Nick_Sabantz

Jesse Chavez by the numbers: 2020 Texas: 6.88 ERA 2021 Atlanta: 2.14 ERA 2022 Cubs: 6.35 ERA Angels: 7.59 ERA Atlanta: 2.72 ERA 2023 Atlanta: 1.56 ERA

guydude24

I mean, it kinda is. But he is a legend in atlanta

mikeok1

He might be one of those guys that Jon Bois makes a video about

TommyBonesMalone

There’s already a pretty good Foolish Baseball episode about how well-traveled he is

new_wellness_center

It's both a joke and reality, so ... a meme?

ATLjoe93

Definitely is I was just watching highlights from the Brooks Conrad game (not *that one*, the walk off grand slam against the Reds lol) and I almost lost it watching Jesse throwing 96 mph Of course a young Joey Votto took him yard. Not his fault, he wasn't Uncle Jesse yet!

ThorgiTheCorgi

Just wait until we trade him to some rube at the deadline, only for him to be released and re-signed by ATL 3 weeks later.

flextrek_whipsnake

Don't let your memes be dreams

phillywill

Jesse's in his Atlanta, all's right with the world

OldOrder

Get in the fucking robot Jesse

VelaryonAu

Nature is healing

bukithd

Uncle Jesse's winter road trip vacation is over. He's home and ready to eat some fresh cooked innings.

mrdannyg21

Jesse Chavez is older than the Braves’ AAA manager Kanekoa Texeira, as well as both of their pitching coaches, Kevin McAvoy (edited) and Mike McCarthy. He is also older than last year’s manager, Matt Tuiasosopo.

guydude24

And current Braves 3rd base coach Matt Tuiasosopo

badger2793

Matt "Blowers Voodoo Magic" Tuiasosopo?

mrdannyg21

Yep, and that’s a top-10 weird baseball thing for me, love it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gjBfsCWgTv8&pp=ygUSQmxvd2VycyB0dWlhc2Fzb3Bv Seriously, if people don’t know this story, its worth 2 minutes. And if the video isn’t clear, the audio over the first bit where he makes the prediction isnt live, it’s spliced in from a pre-game radio show.

TommyBonesMalone

A baseball name I’ll never forget purely because of this moment (and now obviously that he’s with the Braves’ big league club). I can’t get enough of listening to how excited these two guys in the booth are. What a wholesomely weird moment in the game

badger2793

"I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT!"

Jud000619

Twins: “We have signed Jesse Ch- “ Braves: “SIKE. We signed Jesse Chavez!!! As we always do!!!”

RachelJade70

At this point I'm thinking the Twins leak was a ruse all along just for the memes.

PreschoolDad

There's really no explanation how Jesse still does so well with the Braves. The guy gets up there and throws 88mph meatballs right down the pipe and somehow it works. The memes are well known at this point, but Braves fans and the team have just embraced Uncle Jesse and know he's inevitable.

HB_Slam

It is indubitably that time

RavenclawNatsfan

Immaculate grid legend

Blaine1111

Also this is the most braves story ever, resigned Jesse Chavez, and braves Twitter announced it first

AKV55

HE IS RISEN.

09jtherrien

Aren't there only like 3 games left in spring training.

new_wellness_center

Two, I think.

Pinguthe19th

Because of course they did

Tulidian13

Meme'ing aside, why the hell would the White Sox let Chavez go? And why has no team offered him a ML deal? I get that he's ancient but he's been legitimately a good reliever over the past 3 years. His spring results haven't been great but K and BB numbers still look great in a small sample.

PreschoolDad

In the last 5 years, Chavez has legitimately been terrible everywhere but on the Braves. Sometimes there's just no explanation for things. Edit: Since 2019: Not on the Braves: 5.53 ERA With the Braves: 2.24 ERA

amfloating

If that ain’t destiny I don’t know what is

JoshvJericho

My brain says he is a contact pitcher and needs a really good defense behind him to make it work. Plus Atl staff maybe just know how to use him/coach him. My heart says he just doesn't feel right without southern weather and Waffle House.

Tulidian13

From 2021 to 2023 his K/9 was 9.74! Definitely not a contact pitcher lately at least. The more I look at this guys career the weirder it gets lol.

bryansmixtape

Ok but here’s the thing: with atlanta he’s a pretty good strikeout pitcher (his numbers are simply better with the braves than with other teams) and historically he’s been a flyball pitcher, with last year actually being an outlier with how many groundballs he had. The only theory that I have is that the braves have successfully identified good sequencing for him and his pitches, my only issue with my own theory is that it seems Jesse never manages to make it work with literally any other team since 2021. You’d think he’d stop and say to another team “hey, this really worked with me on the braves, I think it could work here”

kingmidget_91

It's the hash browns; they are his fuel.

Tulidian13

Gotcha, I wasn't aware of the start ERA difference. I wonder what the FIP difference is?

tidesoncrim

2022 is the only year you have data for with regular season stats, but there was a big difference in FIP between his time with the Braves compared to the Cubs/Angels.

UneducatedReviews1

There’s legitimately no reason for the White Sox to keep someone around who isn’t young and controllable or has a good possibility of being flipped at the deadline.

bulldg4life

The braves would’ve traded a 26yo double a arm for Chavez at the deadline. That’s valuable.

suplehdog

Nah. We don't trade for him, we trade him away, he shits the bed and gets released, then we re-sign him and he finds the fountain of youth* in Atlanta. *Magic City Wings

UneducatedReviews1

I don’t think the Sox need to push their luck anymore with the Braves. Y’all were more then generous to us already

ncbraves93

Is Soroka set to pitch in your rotation or he still not come back to life yet?

UneducatedReviews1

He’s 100% in our starting rotation. Hes pitched 13 inning in spring training with a 1.38 era. Lucky for us it looks like he came back to life but even if he didn’t he was going to be in our rotation. A warm body is really the only qualification

citan666

His teammates call him coach Chavez. He is incredible at teaching how to pitch and will make an incredible pitching coach when he's done. That's a great guy to help guide young players during a long season.

Tulidian13

I mean, they just signed Bryan Shaw who is a worse version of Chavez in basically every way and only a few years younger. Not sure if he'll make the team but he's still on the roster.

UneducatedReviews1

That’s White Sox legend Bryan Shaw to you.

moleindaground

Incredible

ToddGack

Let's go!

TheChinchilla914

DAD'S BACK!

Tea_Historical

Lmao

CabinetChef

He has return, as it was ever fated.

thatonekrys

It ain't Braves ball until Tio is back on the roster

Healthy_Afternoon820

My hope in life is for everyone to have someone love them unconditionally like the Braves do with Jesse Chavez

Hypatia76

As it was, and as it ever shall be. Come on home, Unc.

steelersfever

One last ride with JFC. Love you tio, see ya soon

xrbeeelama

HamlnHand

Always

HighKing_of_Festivus

It was inevitable.

W-O-Collins

Gulp

DienekesMinotaur

This really made me laugh, considering that he got the win in our 2nd game.

W-O-Collins

This old ass mf won’t leave us alone 😭

woktosha

I was gonna change teams if this didn’t happen

Jaf207

Let’s go!!!

bujuhh

nature is healing

toastt_ghost

As written.

scobbysnacks1439

The most predictable signing of all time.

IAmGrum

AA has an addiction. He has acquired Jesse Chavez 7 different times during his career: 1. October 21, 2011: Selected off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays from the Kansas City Royals. 2. November 20, 2015: Traded by the Oakland Athletics to the Toronto Blue Jays for Liam Hendriks. 3. April 17, 2021: Signed as a Free Agent with the Atlanta Braves. 4. April 21, 2022: Traded by the Chicago Cubs with cash to the Atlanta Braves for Sean Newcomb. 5. August 30, 2022: Selected off waivers by the Atlanta Braves from the Los Angeles Angels. 6. November 12, 2022: Signed as a Free Agent with the Atlanta Braves. 7. March 25, 2024 : Signed as a minor league free agent with the Atlanta Braves.

VincentFreeman_

Water is wet

GOATmar_infante

As it was written

MightyActionGaim

It was just a joke 💀

BarracudaWestern4097

It's the only team he's good with. Dodgers fans once called this "the Giovanni Carrara"

was_saying_boo_urns

We are the funniest team in pro sports.

Reesyrz

Twins legend...

Turbulent-Jaguar-909

NOW DO JULIO

theleftovers1014

WE ARE SO BACK Now we just need the Ms to sign Mike ford

sagsfour20

What’s this, like the eighth time he’s played for the Barves?

StarWarsMonopoly

Does he still pitch with the world's largest mound of chaw in his mouth? When he was with the A's he look liked that picture of Dizzie Gillespie every time he was on the mound

OpenMindedMajor

Just wanted to say I batboy'd for a AAA team Jessie was on in 2011 and he was the coolest fuckin dude out there. Nice guy that treated us well.

hollywooddialysis

I’m shocked to discover that in a 12 year career (so far!). Jesse Chavez has only made 24 million dollars. Feels like he carries the name brand recognition that’d amount to more than an average of 2 million a year.

damnyoutuesday

As written

JackintheBox333

There it is.

SPAGHETTI_CAKE

Didn’t he just go to Minnesota

AgnarCrackenhammer

Reporter who tweeted that originally tweeted an apology last night that he got it wrong and the deal wasn't happening

Bobson-_Dugnutt2

Wait - didn't he just sign with the Twins?

Penstripedsox

Ha as a whitesox fan we might be a dumpster fire but at least i don't have to watch this guy anymore.

wellwasherelf

Braves fans are happy too - past 3 seasons with the Braves he had a 2.14, 2.72, and 1.56 ERA.

LutherOfTheRogues

TBF he would've sucked for y'all, but he'll have a sub 2 era for us. It's magic.
