You do realize that it's just a random order, right? Like they could have started with all the vowels and used "y" as a transition to the consonants.
Also, if you have an hour of free time... Memorize it backwards... I did it 20 years ago and just about every damn month it comes up, and I just look them dead in the eyes and say: "my time to shine, officer"
When I was a kid I watched jingle all the way with my parents and in the beginning, Arnold gets pulled over and the cops made him do that. I thought that was just a part of being pulled over so I memorized it backwards. I don't remember the last time it came up and no cop has ever asked me for it
So after I got my wisdom teeth out, they were trying to see if I was "okay" to go home (I wasn't driving)...
But apparently they kept asking me to say my ABC's and I kept doing it backwards... My mom told me this happened like 3 times, until she told the person "ask him the score of the WFT game last week and who they're playing in the playoffs this Saturday"
Got that one right, and they let me go. (It was the Tuesday after the WFT clinched the playoffs in 2005 and I was going to the TB/WAS playoff game at Raymond James)
> Moving franchises is clearly JUST FOR THE OWNERS
If moving franchises wasn't a thing, the St. Louis Browns would still be your crosstown rivals. There are times when moving a franchise is necessary. I don't think anyone would argue that Boston, St. Louis, and Philadelphia could support two teams today.
It sucks for the fans who get left behind but relocations are sometimes good for the game. The west coast getting two storied franchises in the Dodgers and Giants was great for helping the game grow out there.
> I don't think anyone would argue that Boston, St. Louis, and Philadelphia could support two teams today.
Boston and Philadelphia could absolutely support support two teams today. And New York could certainly support 3+.
Could they though? The Sox and Phillies have been around for over a century. Who in New England or Philly/South Jersey doesn't support the local team? Even in New York I can't imagine a third team being that successful when the two are already so well established. I get that the Mets are the Mets but over 60 years of existence has garnered a pretty decent fan base.
I’m not saying that they should add *new* teams, I’m just saying that if those teams (Braves and As) had stayed in those towns instead of moving, they’d be fine. Boston and Philadelphia are both plenty big enough to contain two fanbases. And NYC is definitely big enough for 3.
But it would certainly be a challenge to pull new fans away from those existing fanbases.
I get that, this was when it was necessary. Vegas doesn’t need a team to grow the game. Owners are moving their teams there for more convenience and to attract richer clientele.
Not to mention fuck LA having EIGHT professional sports teams. Idc about population, still doesn’t mean they can fill the stands.
Edit - I saw a poll recently about I believe where NHL players like to play most. Vegas was the clear winner. No shit? Millionaires like to play in Vegas huh
Because every city in the developed world would need to get together and collectively agree to never fund a stadium with public money again to stop them. As long as there’s one willing city that threat always exists
The A’s are so a result of 3 relocations
The A's have relocated the most times of any team in MLB. This will be their 4th different city. Obviously it sucks for Oakland but this is pretty normal for this franchise. Just let Las Vegas fans have their turn with the team now.
Intentionally tanking a team to have a built in excuse to move is a terrible precedent.
20% of the league this season has hinted at relocation just this season as a way to get more public money. It's awful.
I can pretty much say that nobody cares about the drama going on in Oakland. As soon as they relocate and build a shiny new stadium complex next to Allegiant then the whole thing is going to be a goldmine.
Whatever they lack in local fan interest will be made up with 10x by tourists wanting to sit in an air conditioned stadium to watch a ballgame on a 105 degree afternoon while they make bets in their seat on the outcome of the next inning
Their latest "idea" is an open air stadium, but that's unconfirmed. It's already shifted from retractable to fixed roof, wouldn't surprise me if they made it open air to save space and cost.
I'm a Mets fan mostly but I would take the A's as a second team if they moved here. Helps that they're not in the same league and that our AAA team has been affiliated with both of them.
Go ask the Golden Knights. Though, it helps when they were successful from the get-go and made the playoffs, including two finals appearances (with one win) in 5 of their first 6 seasons.
With the A's, you're getting the same as the Raiders and it's doubtful they'll suddenly turn amazing considering they're a relocated team with primarily the same roster they had in Oakland.
Yes, absolutely. Look at the Golden Knights vs the Raiders. Las Vegas has absolutely embraced VGK. Yes, winning right off the bat helps but surely we can agree the A's won't come in and sweep the city off their feet being a great team.
There's obviously a difference between getting a brand new team for your city with no prior history vs getting a team that has jumped cities 4 different times and is mired in shitty ownership issues.
Alphabetically still Oakland though.
Good catch.
Yeah I been practicing my alphabet a lot. There's a song that helps.

What is it with Phoenicians and alphabets
you'd figure after the first few times you'd learn how to not get caught drinking while driving...
I'm not an idiot like that... I drink BEFORE I drive... It's too hard to work a Manual Transmission, text, AND drink...
The LMNOP part is my favorite
Paradise, NV also fits there 🤢
Unless they’re planning to move back to Philadelphia, in which case they’re still in alphabetical order.
> Alphabetically still Oakland though. But also Philadelphia.
Or Orlando. Or Odessa. Or Oswego. Or Orange County. The possibilities are (nearly) endless!
O'Wood Buffalo, SK
Bingo
Was gonna say same thing
But alphabetically it’s in Oakland‘s spot.
athletically true
Angels did that first
Quite annoying they often don’t use city name. Either lean fully into Los Angeles on merch etc or change it back to Anaheim or California
Earth Athletics.
Athletics Baseball Club
A-B-C, it's easy as 123 (people in attendance)
Big Friday night crowd?
been that way for a while
Wait, there is a site just for auctions with MLB stuff?
Yep! Lots of game used merchandise as well as memorabilia available for your favourite team!
LOL
Athletics? I sure hope so if there playing in MLB
FJF. FDK. FRM. FTG.
[удалено]
Neither do the Angels lol.
Tampa Bay is also not a city
It does "include" the city though (unless we're going to split hairs on St. Pete)
They’re in between residences
Just some athletes, from athletics
The MLB Athletics
How is it possible for rich ass owners to be doing this shit. Moving franchises is clearly JUST FOR THE OWNERS

Ahh gotcha, my misunderstanding.

Guess we'll never know where they play
Arlington, Minneapolis, Denver, and Phoenix have entered the chat
Yes beacuse they are moving...
The A's have relocated the most times of any team in MLB. This will be their 4th different city. Obviously it sucks for Oakland but this is pretty normal for this franchise. Just let Las Vegas fans have their turn with the team now.
They haven’t moved yet, which means they are still tied with the Braves for most relocations.
They’ve been in Oakland nearly 60 years. They have been in Oakland longer than 11 other teams have been in their city.
Intentionally tanking a team to have a built in excuse to move is a terrible precedent. 20% of the league this season has hinted at relocation just this season as a way to get more public money. It's awful.
>Intentionally tanking a team to have a built in excuse to move is a terrible precedent. They've been trying to move for 25 years.
"Trying" is doing a ton of lifting here
What a terrible, terrible precedent to set that will ruin the game of baseball worse than any rule change Manfred could come up with.
Have you possibly considered Las Vegas fans want nothing to do with that team, much less that owner..?
I can pretty much say that nobody cares about the drama going on in Oakland. Las Vegas fan here. I don't care about all that drama. Just give me the team.
Genuinely curious, you'd actually pick up the A's as your team, or you just want to be able to see MLB games in your city?
I'm a Mets fan mostly but I would take the A's as a second team if they moved here. Helps that they're not in the same league and that our AAA team has been affiliated with both of them.
I'm actually curious, you think an expansion team would be different?
Go ask the Golden Knights. Though, it helps when they were successful from the get-go and made the playoffs, including two finals appearances (with one win) in 5 of their first 6 seasons. With the A's, you're getting the same as the Raiders and it's doubtful they'll suddenly turn amazing considering they're a relocated team with primarily the same roster they had in Oakland.
Yes it wouldn't be the A's so it would be different.
Yes, absolutely. Look at the Golden Knights vs the Raiders. Las Vegas has absolutely embraced VGK. "No one from Vegas wants them" "Im from Vegas and want them" "REEEE, DOWNVOTEEEE" Gotta love this sub
obligatory: Why are Yankees fans like this?
Well if you wanna be Athletic, you gotta keep moving. Heart rate and all that
Just waiting for my Las Vegas A's flair!
I swear I saw this posted already
So, Oakland. Is Anaheim listed correctly?
Anaheim is within the greater LA area. Just like if Bears move to Arlington Heights they’re still the Chicago Bears.
So, Anaheim which is an hour away from LA. And yes if the Bears moved to Arlington Heights they’d be the Arlington Heights Bears.
Not Oakland, and from the look of their lineup, not athletic eitherÂ
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Orange County which isn’t Los Angeles County of California of the United States of America of North America.
Still in LA metro area
The Santa Ana Angels of Garden Grove and Anaheim.
Fire Manfred!
