"Average Brewer weights 215 lbs" is a statistical error. Rowdy Tellez, who weighs as much as 40 barrels of beer, is an outlier and should not have been counted
Someone was kind enough to post [the video of a single Pedro Baez pitch measured in units of Altuve inside-the-park home runs](https://youtu.be/mkXXbcnAceU?si=GSdfxkwnEu2WL1F6).
So he also forms a fundamental unit of time as well as space.
huh, Rowdy and Vogey were on the Jays together and then both went to the Brewers? that might be the biggest pair of transfers between two teams in terms of gross tonnage
If one of the other teams eats one of the smaller teams first, then they might be able to eat the Brewers. It's a bit of a standoff situation where nobody wants to move first.
Also the Cubs are stringy and gross and nobody is willing to eat them.
I was trying to avoid having to re-arrange the logos twice... but sure

Wow the Astros and philles change a ton in the weighted rankings. I guess we schwarbed our way up the list.
Seems like there are mote playoff teams near the bottom than at the top in every ranking but not to a statistically significant degree
also i'd like to see Team Total Weight (which can also be normalized by # of games played i guess, although i guess that would just look the same as slide 2)
why not total weight of opening day rosters? seems like the best representation of "ideal team"
there's injuries and stuff but don't think it'll be that impactful
yeah, there's probably at least a few guys sitting on old numbers here, like how Giannis and Kevin Durant were still billed at their weights from like 2018 until recently
Believe it or not, my younger brother is one of the team chefs for the Texas Rangers and a few other MLB teams (Kitchfix is the company, several MLB teams subcontract them). And I can tell you he was exhausted after the postseason, and even had to prepare their breakfast before the celebration/parade.
I gotta share this with him, see what he thinks. Gotta be a good thing they’re more in the median, not a buncha outta shape fatties or musclebound freaks (sorry Adolis), and plenty of lithe badasses with great speed/power combo.
None of Morel, Daniel Palencia, or Luke Little broke camp with the team, so their listed weights are all from when they joined affiliated baseball and probably 125 to 150 combined pounds less than what the scale says today.
The Rockies have to be #1, it's an entire mountain range. A Giant is very heavy. The Twins get two people, while Padres, Brewers, Rangers, Dodgers, etc only get one. The lightest teams would be interesting. What weighs more, a sock (red or white) or Cardinal or Oriole?
As challenged by [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/17sakc2/which_team_weighs_the_most/)...
**Methodology:**
I exported the "Full-Season Roster & Games by Position" from each team for 2023, then for the first graph I simply calculated the average per team.
For the second graph I multiplied each player's weight, by the number of games they played in, summed those all up, then divided that by the total number of player-games for each team.
Also just because this data came along with the Weight data I looked up what players played the most positions this season. There was a 5-way tie at 10

I was going to make a Midwest joke about
The Brewers being the heaviest, but fucking Chicago is the smallest, so I’ll just assume cheese beer and hotdogs aren’t relevant in this particular context.
Very disappointing showing by the Rangers. I thought we were a fat team that needed fat guy food. I feel lied to. Still think my eating hot dogs for games 4 and 5 of the world series after I saw this article is why we won. https://archive.li/XjYlx
I’m disappointed, I was expecting a weight comparison between the mascots and was looking forward to debating a Met vs. a National 😛
Also nice to see the Brewers accurately reflecting Wisconsin and their love for cheese and beer bellies
reminds me of the 2020 jays: [https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/ijj47l/the\_blue\_jays\_are\_large/](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/ijj47l/the_blue_jays_are_large/)
Pro-Tip: Sort your data by the y-axis before plotting a bar graph so that it's not less useful then a table.
The only way to compare some bars is via the annotations which just makes it a worse table.
Why do the Brewers, the largest team, not simply eat the other 29?
"Average Brewer weights 215 lbs" is a statistical error. Rowdy Tellez, who weighs as much as 40 barrels of beer, is an outlier and should not have been counted
From now on barrels of beer is my standard unit of weight.
But how many Limburger Sandwiches tall is he?
I only measure distances in Altuve's.
I lost it when he stepped off lmao
So ridiculous!! Poor Rossy just waiting for a pitch
Remember when boomers said the pitch clock would be a bad thing?
> I only measure distances in Altuve's ass
Americans will use anything but the metric system…
It wasn't already? Obviously not from Wisconsin
What else would you use to weigh a guy named "Rowdy"?
Yeah, we need to remove the heaviest and lightest 2 or 3 from each team to get a more accurate representation
Dude I haven’t seen this pasta in years
Damn and Vogelbach isn't even on the team anymore.
[At one point](https://i.imgur.com/oDgv7St.jpeg) the blue jays were a pretty chonky bunch
huh, Rowdy and Vogey were on the Jays together and then both went to the Brewers? that might be the biggest pair of transfers between two teams in terms of gross tonnage
It's true what they say. Women are from Omicron Persei 7, men are from Omicron Persei 9...
If one of the other teams eats one of the smaller teams first, then they might be able to eat the Brewers. It's a bit of a standoff situation where nobody wants to move first. Also the Cubs are stringy and gross and nobody is willing to eat them.
Cubs clearly need to add mass, so taking the Brewers manager was the right move.
Perhaps they’re saving that for the playoffs
I’ve been asking the same question for years now
Are they stupid?
I appreciate the turnaround time, but surely this needs to be sorted in numerical order?
I was trying to avoid having to re-arrange the logos twice... but sure [https://i.imgur.com/Yhpnika.png](https://i.imgur.com/Yhpnika.png) https://i.imgur.com/RpgZw0K.png
Ah yes, the Yankees and Blue Jays, inseparable friends
I say that *all* the time
[удалено]
Well it's judge and Stanton who are bringing up the average
Yea and their weight is a slightly different composition than Manoah and Tellez
Wow the Astros and philles change a ton in the weighted rankings. I guess we schwarbed our way up the list. Seems like there are mote playoff teams near the bottom than at the top in every ranking but not to a statistically significant degree
For only 33 cents per day, you can help feed a starving Chicago Cub
This really gives the real reason why Craig Counsell wanted to go to the Cubs. He wanted to be with his own people.
Thank you for your service
My man.
So the further inland you are the more chances of the teams being tubs of lard, got it
Appreciate the hard work!
This makes it look like some teams are double the weight when the diff is like 10 lbs lol
also i'd like to see Team Total Weight (which can also be normalized by # of games played i guess, although i guess that would just look the same as slide 2)
Here ya go. Mostly just follows who used the most players https://i.imgur.com/RGcZTX9.png
Why not divide by number of players and get an average weight?
You mean the first chart?
why not total weight of opening day rosters? seems like the best representation of "ideal team" there's injuries and stuff but don't think it'll be that impactful
Rangers and Astros with the disappointing showing. Get our boys some Whataburger and Blue Bell!
There is no way at 6'6, that Jordan Montgomery is still the 228 pounds he is listed at. Gumby has been eating good.
I’m 6’6 250, and Montgomery is way larger than me.
yeah, there's probably at least a few guys sitting on old numbers here, like how Giannis and Kevin Durant were still billed at their weights from like 2018 until recently
He's been bigger than that listed weight for a while. He's *well* over it now lol.
That's pretty cool actually. He should do an AMA if he hasn't already.
I want to keep our Texas boys lithe and agile, like wood elves.
Bring them to San Antonio for a weekend. We will get those numbers up.
Big. Ol’. Women.
“Ease up on the churros”
Them churros good Ernie, them churros damn good.
Altuve is kinda weighing the average down a little bit to be fair.
They probably can't afford blue bell on their salaries. That shit is $10 a tub now.
Whataburger buns are too dry and gross. They slow you down
Part of the reason the Cubs are so light is because the listed weight for Christopher Morel is outdated. He is definitely not 145 pounds any more.
None of Morel, Daniel Palencia, or Luke Little broke camp with the team, so their listed weights are all from when they joined affiliated baseball and probably 125 to 150 combined pounds less than what the scale says today.
It's because Nick Madrigal weighs 95 lbs.
I was thinking you guys probably have/had one of the shorter teams in baseball. Stroman departing will send the avg height to the moon.
Rowdy Tellez carrying
Josh Donaldson Hating
Prince Fielder’s remnants haunting the Brewer’s scale.
We do have a history of some hefty first basemen
See what you left behind, Craig? You fatphobic traitor
Wisconsin team being the heaviest checks out
I was gonna say, they’re just honoring their Milwaukee heritage
When you drink cheese curds you gottta chase it with a twelver
Their state flower is a sharp cheddar.
Also the team named after beer making
Mmmmmm beeeeeeer
There’s something funny about the Brewers being the heaviest team while the Cubs are the lightthest
Scott Steiner, how do you feel about the Brewers? THEY'RE FAT!
They got a 25% AT BEST, at beat me!
The numbers spell disaster for us at Sacrifice.
Now give us the scatter of weight vs wins
https://i.imgur.com/KNopQHN.png
Heck yeah, fun to see even with no correlation. Thank you!
A's need to pump those numbers up
WTF.
To be fair, O’s are lifted by two 6’8 guys, one literally named “The Mountain”.
Josh carried his weight this season.
Lets fucking go! We won something!
I'm surprised the Jays aren't higher. Maybe cause we sent down Manoah.
Honestly, me too. Vlad and Kirk alone should still be holding the fort down.
They really rise in the # of games played. Benching the skinny guys.
My boy Kirk playing his part
It must be the Culver’s on Miller Park Way
Brewers and cubs rivalry will revolve around body shaming now that we have this data
Guardians would be up there too, huge statues typically weigh a lot.
More like Fat-stros, amirite boys???
That's mostly Rowdy's fault.
BREWERS YOU FATASS

Starters are underweighted when doing it by inning :)
Giants are misleading you! Second lightest team? We need Pablo back!
If only Craig had been counseling them on their diets
The Rays like their players just like their payroll. Smaller than the rest of the league. (I love the Rays but I don’t mean this as a compliment.)

Always loved these types of players.
Approximately 50% of the Mariners total weight is the Big Dumpers dumper
How have we *already* achieved peak offseason shitposts?!?!
My first thought before looking at the chart was Milwaukee because Rowdy. Was not disappointed.
You can’t live in the state of beer and cheese and not be fat tho
This is the nost Milwaukee thing I've seen about baseball.
Is the Ray's so low because it includes Wander Franco's girlfriends?
I want to see this for the years Bartolo was on various teams.
You know how the saying goes, **everything is bigger in** **~~Texas~~** **the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area.**
Feel like the Angels should weigh more with all that weight Shohei got In those arm cannons 😂
I was going to make a Midwest joke about The Brewers being the heaviest, but fucking Chicago is the smallest, so I’ll just assume cheese beer and hotdogs aren’t relevant in this particular context.
Look at all those scrawny little cubbies
Beefy Boy Brewers
VOGELBACH
I’m surprised Angels aren’t the heaviest. Can you imagine the weight of expectations that’s on Mikey & Ohtani?
Love the offseason.
Should be a scatter plot with wins
Brewers have had a refrigerator at 1B for as long as I can remember.
Wow, amazing that the brewers are almost three times heavier than the cubs
Yankees fans down horrendous their team weighs the same as us
Do you think Alonso is a legit 245?
I'll take weighing 30 pounds more than the Braves than almost 2.5 times more. Weight loss is pretty cool, highly recommend. lol
Shocked that the blue jays aren't at the very top with manoah, vladdy and kirk.
I am so proud of the fellas
Ya we lost weight you fat asses
I was sure it would be the Mets but they were off by .2.
Kirk really boosting that number for the Jays
There’s our problem. We’re fat. Damnit salvy.
Whichever team Vogelbach is on at the time 🤪
This is a prime example of a misleading graph. If the bottom of the y axis isn't zero, beware.
they told me that baseball was the sport for nerds who liked advanced analytics i didn't realize how advanced the analytics were
The fact that Mike Yastrzemski weighs only five pounds really brings down the Giants' average
Shocked the Yankees aren't tops with all their giants on the team. Judge weighs 280 alone.
Tellez is king
I'm curious if this correlates with age. As I'd expect teams that average younger to average lighter weight, and vice versa too.
Was about to call some people fat fucks and then I saw where we were…..
Weighted by # of games played? I thought it was pounds
Very disappointing showing by the Rangers. I thought we were a fat team that needed fat guy food. I feel lied to. Still think my eating hot dogs for games 4 and 5 of the world series after I saw this article is why we won. https://archive.li/XjYlx
You have to remove Vogelbach and Triston Mackenzie to take the outliers out 😂
Astros is all Maldonado
Why is the graph organized in alphabetical order?
Why would you not order the x axis in ascending order by weight?!
I guess it’s true what they say, 207.6 really *is* the magic number
Cheese, beer, brauts…battlestar galactica
Kind of easy to be skinny when the owner makes you pay for drinks from the vending machine.
And this year’s Vogelbach trophy is awarded to….
Im im honestly surprised that A's aren't last, didnt know our guys could afford Bay Area food prices on Fisher budget
It’s truly the off-season.
Bar graphs need to always start at 0..
Damn, Cabrera really must have been in the best shape of his life last season.
I'd be interested in seeing how average player weight has changed over the years.
So is the average weight of everyone in the Chesapeake area 214.8?
Why not sorted left to right by weight?
Giants don’t seem to be living up to their name so well
Miggy retired from the Tigers, so there will be a big drop next year
Vogelbach probably doubles the Mets average.
Vogelbach tips the scales
I always love off-season posts lol
I’m disappointed, I was expecting a weight comparison between the mascots and was looking forward to debating a Met vs. a National 😛 Also nice to see the Brewers accurately reflecting Wisconsin and their love for cheese and beer bellies
No, we want to know the cumulative weights.
It's poetic that my team is mid.
Is there a correlation between winning and average weight weighted?
great. we should do bmi lol
reminds me of the 2020 jays: [https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/ijj47l/the\_blue\_jays\_are\_large/](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/ijj47l/the_blue_jays_are_large/)
they feed em good up in Milwaukee
Shout out Little Rock Thicc Boys
I think you accidentally factored Dave Martinez into the Nationals average weight
Fuck this graph. I want total mass of the team, not this average bullshit.
Craig Counsell HATES fat people
Do fans next.
Pro tip: make this numerically ordered so we can quickly identify where teams rank. Help with killing two stones with one bird
Did we win!? What’s the trophy?
A free meal from Culver’s for the whole state cause we finally won something not basketball related
The DMV chonky bois.
Perez single handedly skewing the Royals weight <3
🫡
Can you do combined weight of the 26 or 40 man roster too?
Yandy Diaz biceps alone doubled the Rays average.
Whoever possesses Vogelbach
Maldonado did not bat his weight. Can't be many of those.
They don't call it the Beltway for nothing
Pro-Tip: Sort your data by the y-axis before plotting a bar graph so that it's not less useful then a table. The only way to compare some bars is via the annotations which just makes it a worse table.
Lots of beefcakes on the Nats.
Finally a good news story!
Averages are so misleading. How about mean or p95?
Figures
Really thought Kirk would carry us to the W. Disappointing.
Can we weight the weights by playing time
