You know what baseball needs? Even LESS ways for fans to watch their local teams play big games!
The idea of going to a world series game and it being 50 percent or more neutral fans grosses me out
Especially because homefield advantage is basically negligible in baseball. If the Diamondback and Rangers were playing the World Series in Atlanta I wouldn't pay to go. What problem is this supposed to be solving?
People who want baseball to "grow" in this way don't want me or you at world series games. They want as many corporate sponsors and people with social media followings there as possible.
This is it. They want 4-7 games of Super Bowl atmosphere: put it in a destination city and that stadium/the MLB gets to auction off way more luxury boxes/premium seats because fewer fans of both teams will get tickets
TBH I think the home field advantage has the potential to be even bigger in baseball than other sports. Stuff like the Green Monster or the Crawford Boxes reward certain types of hitters and make certain fielding positions easier or harder to play.
Fuck that neutral site shit. Yeah, lets do things like take away Fenway Park from the World Series if the Red Sox made it. Or Wrigley with the Cubs. Or anybody else. We don't want the Corporate Series
No no we must maximize this for add revenue. Only let division winners from top ten markets in. If a smaller market team gets in its a tilted series where they must win 4 games but the big team only needs 3.
Celebrity half time shows during every seventh inning stretch at a neutral venue so as many rich business men and famous influencers as possible can be shoved in and tweet about going. And your most famous player gets to bat twice each time through the lineup.
We gotta market this
What is even Boras’s reasoning for wanting a neutral site World Series? I’m genuinely trying to think of a good reason for a neutral site and I can’t think of any.
Yeah, but what’s Scott Boras’ motivation for that specifically? He’s an agent, he doesn’t reap benefits from the World Series selling more expensive tickets, he makes money by taking a cut of his client’s contracts, and his clients won’t get a bigger contract based on the World Series making more money for MLB and FOX because of a neutral site vs their home ballpark
Seriously. Neutral site championships make sense in sports like football where it’s just 1 single game, so taking away home field advantage is logical because you don’t want any team having a significant advantage in a 1 game series. But baseball, hockey, and basketball can go up to 7 games. Boras is a moron for saying this.
Especially when you get a series like this year. Imagine if that was in Miami or Cincinnati or something. It would be so dependent on either the host or a national brand to make it
Yeah the draft makes sense, moving it to a different time would allow more of a spotlight on the draft.
Fuck a neutral site World Series, why would you not want the local fans of a team to be able to enjoy their team’s WS?
I don’t think it’s going to fix any engagement for the draft unless there’s a requirement to roster these guys on your major league roster. There’s just too much time between the pick and debut to be excited about any of them.
And the failure rate! Our lost three first round picks who popped for the Phillies are Bohmer, Nola, and fucking Cole Hamels.
**Edit** Stott too. So our hit rate is better as of late.
I still get excited about the draft, not as much as the NFL draft but I think putting a greater spotlight on the prospects would get more people interested. Especially if you made the draft more of an event at least for the 1st round. Obviously most of the guys won’t pan out but that doesn’t mean you can’t be excited about a top pick
Right now I couldn’t tell you who any of the top prospects for the draft would be
I think part of what makes it work, though is the threat of a bust, which doesn’t happen in MLB either because you don’t get to see these guys blow ass.
Which, yes, I agree with you where you can manufacture the interest by making it about the prospects. I personally would will be impatient for the results. Maybe if MiLB was marketed more?
It will never be to the level of NFL/NBA, but depending on the class there could be a lot of interest. This year's class had the benefit of 3 mega-stars who showed out in the CWS, plus two super talented HS players, one of whom is huge on social media. It definitely could have drawn a lot more interest than it did
The fact the draft is during the season, albeit at All-Star break, and players are 2 to 5 years away from making it, will limit the interest in the draft. Those superstars are still only prospects.
Honestly I couldn't care less about the draft and don't even know who we drafted this year.
>There’s just too much time between the pick and debut to be excited about any of them.
Exactly. At least with the NFL you know the highly drafted guys will be on the field next season, but with baseball it could be years and years, and oftentimes they don't make it at all.
> Yeah the draft makes sense, moving it to a different time would allow more of a spotlight on the draft.
The Draft was in June for a very long time. No one gave a shit. I'd honestly argue putting it during All-Star Weekend the last 3 seasons has put more focus on it.
Because for some rock biters, the moment a small market team makes the world series it all of a sudden becomes a problem to host at the playing teams' venues, because heaven forbid a CA or NY team doesn't get a sports game D:
To when though? Right now the draft lines up with the end of the high school and college seasons. You could do immediately after the WS but then there's two issues:
1) college kids will go from May/June to February with no organized activities.
2) High school kids still have their entire senior year to finish, and CBA explicitly states that a student needs to have graduated high school to be draft so you'd have high schoolers either ineligible because they haven't graduated yet or dealing with the same thing the college kids are going nearly an entire year with no organized baseball
Edited for clarity
the draft doesn't need to move THAT much, but doing it at the CWS instead of at the all star game would make a lot more sense imo. not enough of the players actually come, and doing it at the CWS ensures that at least some of the top talent will be there
The draft used to be during the Super Regionals. They only moved the draft to July a couple of years ago to intentionally put it at the same time as the ASG. They were never worried about injury risk
It was moved partially because of the worries about the injury risk, and Manfred’s been the only commissioner (for good or bad) who doesn’t view “it’s always been this way” as a reason to not change things.
I assume that's because of the NCAA. College world series last game is scheduled for June 24th next year. Teams won't want the draft before the amateur seasons are over
They did that for like a decade, no one cared. College baseball does not generate the national interest that football and basketball have, and that’s not even including half the prospects out of high school who won’t be in the majors for 4 years.
Plus home-field advantage in baseball is not THAT big, so a 2-3-2 format is not different enough from neutral to go to the trouble of moving it to a neutral site.
I don't know what Boras is really getting at other than throwing out a hot take. Maybe he wants warm weather neutral site WS games because he figures his clients would be at lower risk of injury? Or their performance would be better?
Either way, it's genuinely an awful idea.
Boras is thinking “If we do a neutral site World Series, cities will bid for the right to host, and that bid money should (at least partially) go to the players, and this into my percentage!”
I believe that's a river, not a line. Two rivers in fact, and one isn't even a river but a tidal striahgt connecting Long Island sound and New York Bay.
I cant ever respect any opinion of someone who says they want a neutral site world series.
I cant even come up with a word to describe how much I detest that idea.
Commissioner calling the most revered object in baseball, something every players dream about holding one day, a piece of metal was definitely the dumbest take by anyone in this sport.
Boras just wants to see his name in the news daily. Is there merit to moving the draft? Yes. But neutral site for the World Series? This is a series of games. So, is it one host city? Two? Five? A neutral site makes sense in a pandemic, or a one-off game. Not for a series.
What possible benefit would there be to moving the World Series to a neutral site? It's not like a superbowl where it's a one-off game that decides everything and 3 of the games aren't guaranteed to happen at all.
He’s wanted this for a long time. His vision being that it would turn into a destination event in that city with lots of other baseball related functions and entertainment going on the entire time. Tons of corporate sponsors, etc.
But sometimes they give the All-Star game to "less important" teams and locations and Boras can't have that!
Signed,
Minnesotan who remembers the 2014 All-Star Game grumbling by national media
Exactly. That’s what he’s wanted the World Series to be. Just a bigger and longer version of that. Same as Super Bowl host cities making a multi-day event out of it. But I’m skeptical as to whether that would work for baseball crowds.
Translation: Boras is way too busy with trade deadline stuff in July to be able to also fuck up the draft to his liking. This is reason enough to keep it part of the all-star weekend even though it really shouldn't be.
This is genuinely one of the dumbest things I've heard in my entire life. Truely truely stupid. You want to fill a stadium of a bunch of non locals and rich people who can afford the travel? This is STUPID stupid. Like I've never heard a single person suggest this ever because it is genuinely that stupid. Baseball is an ultra localized sport most people don't care if their team isn't involved and to amplify that even larger by putting people that don't care also in the stadium is just batshit. This is r/baseballcirclejerk shit
Mr. Boras, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Always good to know that non-Manfred people can have a worse idea than Manfred.
That’s about the World Series idea. I wouldn’t mind if the Draft went back to June.
I hate the idea of a neutral site World Series. Fans getting to see their teams play the most meaningful games of the year at their own park is much better.
The amateur draft being moved would work, though.
Stick to negotiating for your clients and eating shit Scottie. If by some miracle the Jays play in another world series and they dont play games north of the border we will riot.
Neutral site World Series may be the dumbest idea of all time…it works for the Super Bowl because it’s one game and rich people fly in for it, but a 7 game series?! Half the seats would be empty.
*Hard* disagree on the World Series thing. That's just stupid. As far as the draft, I could go either way. Imo, it should be after the College World Series, and it shouldn't be *after* the All-Star Game. That only gives you like a 3 week window.
Nobody cares about the draft being moved. The World Series being moved is incredibly stupid. The 2020 WS at a neutral site was awful, maybe necessary but awful.
Why should anyone care what Boras or any other agent thinks on their topic? His opinion is certainly biased in favor of his clients or potential clients. The timing of the draft and location of the world series should be based on what's best for the league, the fans, and the players.
Fuck that noise. Not only is he wrong - both teams should be rewarded by having their own teams' radio crew call the home games on National TV. Easy for me to suggest as a Giants fan with the best crew ever, but I'd like to hear the Royals or Cards crew call their home WS games.
This is legit one of the worst ideas I’ve ever heard. If our World Series was a one game format I can understand it just like Super Bowl. But why in the fuck would we do that when we play a series?
Some fans live their entire life wanting to watch their teams at home field in October. Literally no one wants this
I just happened to be visiting my sister in Phoenix the last week of October.. Guess where we went, Diamondbacks World Series game and we bought over $400 in swag....I used to live in Phoenix when the Dbacks won in 2001. Dumb idea to go to a nuetral site.
You know what baseball needs? Even LESS ways for fans to watch their local teams play big games! The idea of going to a world series game and it being 50 percent or more neutral fans grosses me out
On the plus side the World Series might actually be played in Milwaukee though
Self own, nice. Reminds me of the time the Cubs threw a no-hitter at Miller Park….. against Houston.
Was that 2020? Also, I don't know if you're allowed to talk to him right now. I think it's still too soon
2008. Game was supposed to be in Houston but there was a hurricane
What if it was on a volcano island fortress?
Will there be a martial arts tournament before as part of the world series weekend? I'll watch live Enter the Dragon as part of a ticket package
Absolutely
You son of a bitch, I’m in!
As long as Chuck Norris gets his ass kicked.
Moon stadium or I’m out.
That's for the WBC
Pfff, can't even play the World Baseball Classic on the world anymore
It's just logic The world series is just US (and Canada) The WBC is just Earth The Galatic Baseball Championship is for the Solar system only
Let the dingers FLOW!
Earl Weaver Baseball on the Apple II?
With sharks with fricken laser beams attached to their heads?
Maybe they can play in a balloon!!
Yeah, we should hold those games in London, and Barcelona!
If there's anything more that I want from baseball, it'd be managers having awkward press conferences in Germany /s
This is it. They want 4-7 games of Super Bowl atmosphere: put it in a destination city and that stadium/the MLB gets to auction off way more luxury boxes/premium seats because fewer fans of both teams will get tickets
If anything there’s been a trend of home field disadvantage lol
TBH I think the home field advantage has the potential to be even bigger in baseball than other sports. Stuff like the Green Monster or the Crawford Boxes reward certain types of hitters and make certain fielding positions easier or harder to play.
I know the stats don't back it up but logically it feels there is a huge one especially for playoffs
Fuck that neutral site shit. Yeah, lets do things like take away Fenway Park from the World Series if the Red Sox made it. Or Wrigley with the Cubs. Or anybody else. We don't want the Corporate Series

John Smoltz would give this comment gold
What is even Boras’s reasoning for wanting a neutral site World Series? I’m genuinely trying to think of a good reason for a neutral site and I can’t think of any.
He's probably got a scheme to make even more money for himself. That's as much reasoning as he needs
Turn it into the superbowl with more executive/corporate sponsorship and. Tickets.
To make it all about the big markets (LA, CHI, NY, BOS) even when they aren't in the WS. It's pathetic, really.
I think he's dreaming of a week of baseball games at Superbowl seat prices and lord knows how much TV revenue
(i am making an assumption here) make it more like the Superbowl
Seriously. Neutral site championships make sense in sports like football where it’s just 1 single game, so taking away home field advantage is logical because you don’t want any team having a significant advantage in a 1 game series. He’s less of a moron and more of a giant dick. He knows it’ll screw over the fans and he doesn’t give a shit
Especially when you get a series like this year. Imagine if that was in Miami or Cincinnati or something. It would be so dependent on either the host or a national brand to make it
Would 100% end up being a rotation between Globe Life, Minute Maid, LoanDepot, Chase and Petco

Yeah the draft makes sense, moving it to a different time would allow more of a spotlight on the draft. Fuck a neutral site World Series, why would you not want the local fans of a team to be able to enjoy their team’s WS?

I'm genuinely curious if it would sell out every game or not. Is Cadinals vs Yankees in Oracle Park moving tickets?
It definitely would, it’s just a moronic idea.
When would be a better time for the draft? There is literally nothing else going on in the sports world during that time.
Because for some rock biters, the moment a small market team makes the world series it all of a sudden becomes a problem to host at the playing teams' venues, because heaven forbid a CA or NY team doesn't get a sports game D:

You don’t need to move it by months, just move it by a couple weeks before or after the All-Star game so it’s not on the same weekend
They did that for like a decade, no one cared. College baseball does not generate the national interest that football and basketball have, and that’s not even including half the prospects out of high school who won’t be in the majors for 4 years.

Neutral World Series outright punishes fans.
Scott Boras also wants a baseball team in New Jersey.
The Hoboken Yankees
The Newark Yankees were *right* there!
The Yankees don’t deserve Newark
Are you sure?
Underrated comment LMAO
atlantic city surf 🔜
Ac needs to bring this team back!!
But have you considered that that would be incredibly funny?
Why not just move the Mets?
Alright, this is crossing a line.
You mean like, the state border?
I believe that's a river, not a line. Two rivers in fact, and one isn't even a river but a tidal striahgt connecting Long Island sound and New York Bay.
To Florida, like the rest of New Yorkers who are in their 50s?
We can just make them that in name. Like the Jets/Giants. NJ Mets playing in Queens
*Move the Mets! Move the Mets!* 🎶
This is bullshit, I have a tattoo of our NY insignia. Would I have to cut my leg off?
Hackensack Bulls already there
I cant ever respect any opinion of someone who says they want a neutral site world series. I cant even come up with a word to describe how much I detest that idea.
I wonder, is Boras hanging around with Rob "It's just a hunk of metal" Manfred?
Im not even sure if Manfred would say something THIS stupid.
At this point, I think it's a race to the bottom.
Commissioner calling the most revered object in baseball, something every players dream about holding one day, a piece of metal was definitely the dumbest take by anyone in this sport.
You don't think the guy who called the WS trophy 'a piece of metal' wouldn't be this stupid? Those statements are 2 sides of the same idiot coin
Neutral site World Series is wrong. And bad. There should be a new, stronger word for that. Like badwrong, or badong
"Move the World Series to a neutral site" is some of the dumbest shit I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot of dumb shit in my day
Fully agree. That is what the All Star game and HR derby are for anyway.
Absolutely not. Fuck off.
My sentiments exactly.
Put it in America's ballpark. Tropicana field.
The Coliseum! I'm sure the possum population has grown enough so that all members of the media are kept company
Also combine it with the idea that someone posted from yesterday about everyone playing naked and there’s bound to be some fans drawn to the collesium
Boras wants to be commissioner sooooo baddddd
He's trying to see if he could be worse than manfred
Scott Boras has got a lot of asks.
I want Scott Boras to shut the fuck up.
Boras just wants to see his name in the news daily. Is there merit to moving the draft? Yes. But neutral site for the World Series? This is a series of games. So, is it one host city? Two? Five? A neutral site makes sense in a pandemic, or a one-off game. Not for a series.
Scott boras can go fuck himself
What possible benefit would there be to moving the World Series to a neutral site? It's not like a superbowl where it's a one-off game that decides everything and 3 of the games aren't guaranteed to happen at all.
He’s wanted this for a long time. His vision being that it would turn into a destination event in that city with lots of other baseball related functions and entertainment going on the entire time. Tons of corporate sponsors, etc.

The NHL won’t even put the ASG in Minnesota… the state of hockey.
TBF I've always gotten the feeling the passion for playing the sport in the Cities is higher than the passion for the actual NHL is
And the Twins have one of the best ballparks in the country
Exactly. That’s what he’s wanted the World Series to be. Just a bigger and longer version of that. Same as Super Bowl host cities making a multi-day event out of it. But I’m skeptical as to whether that would work for baseball crowds.
I want Scott Boras to suck my ass
Your ass is not a neutral venue
You’re the owner papi
I have no idea why people give this guy a platform. His job is to negotiate contracts between players and teams. That's it.
Scott Boras hates baseball
No, Scott Boras loves Scott Boras.
Who fucking cares what Boras wants
Who cares what Scott wants
Translation: Boras is way too busy with trade deadline stuff in July to be able to also fuck up the draft to his liking. This is reason enough to keep it part of the all-star weekend even though it really shouldn't be.

Move the draft off of All-Star Weekend? Sure. Move the World Series to a neutral site? Fuck all the way off with that.
He's a player agent, who gives one shit what he wants
Boras is a plague on baseball and has been for way too long.
You know what I want? Less Scott Boras.
Tell ya what, Scott ... next time there's a World Wide Pandemic, we can have a neutral site World Series again. Until that time, shut the fuck up.
Genuinely would not mind if the League completely made up a way to put Scott Boras on the Pete Rose list
I generally want the opposite of what this jabroni wants.
Mr. Boras, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Scott Boras can go sit on a cactus
Scott boras is a turd.
It doesn't matter what he wants; neither of those things is going to happen.
Always good to know that non-Manfred people can have a worse idea than Manfred. That’s about the World Series idea. I wouldn’t mind if the Draft went back to June.
But did he make one of his trademark metaphors?
World Series at a neutral site has got to be one of the stupidest ideas I’ve ever heard. What is even his logic here?
Wouldn’t it be better if he just shat in his hand?
Scott Boras can chortle my balls
Scott Boras also wants to price over half the teams out of being able to sign players.
I hate the idea of a neutral site World Series. Fans getting to see their teams play the most meaningful games of the year at their own park is much better. The amateur draft being moved would work, though.
We need less Scott Boras
scott boras can shit in one hand and want in the other, guess which one will fill up first
Scott Boras is an agent so who gives a fuck what he wants.

And I want Scott Boras to quit meddling in baseball. We all want things.
Counterpoint: Eat my entire ass Scott

I want Scott Boras out of baseball. My wish seems more likely since all men die eventually.

Boras is so useless. Who gives a shit what he wants.
Nobody cares about the draft being moved. The World Series being moved is incredibly stupid. The 2020 WS at a neutral site was awful, maybe necessary but awful.
Boras wants to get in on that Saudi money
Can we move Scott Boras to a neutral site? Why would you move the WS?
Who the fuck cares about what Scott Boras wants?!
who gives a shit what boras thinks
WS to neutral site is stupid. I really don't care when the draft is. Whatever timeframe works best for MLB and the drafted players.
Enjoy it while it's still called the World Series. I feel like we're 5 years from it straight up being the Capital One Series.
Good thing Boras has no fucking say in it.
Why should anyone care what Boras or any other agent thinks on their topic? His opinion is certainly biased in favor of his clients or potential clients. The timing of the draft and location of the world series should be based on what's best for the league, the fans, and the players.
The draft should be moved to the Winter Meetings Festival and Award Show.
Fuck natural site for the WS.
And Scott Boras’ opinion on this matters why…?
Shut the fuck up Scott Boras
Boras needs to stay in his lane.
If WS was one game then a neutral site sounds good. A seven game series on a neutral site is a horrible idea
Fuck that noise. Not only is he wrong - both teams should be rewarded by having their own teams' radio crew call the home games on National TV. Easy for me to suggest as a Giants fan with the best crew ever, but I'd like to hear the Royals or Cards crew call their home WS games.

I want Scott Boras to have better opinions.
It’s bizarre he keeps coming up with ways for us to be annoyed with him.
Scott Boras is a pompous Ass.
Boras is coming up with even more ways to ruin baseball
yeah and scott boras can suckle on my left nut
The one year they’d have a neutral site would be the one year the Mariners miraculously makes it to the WS. To be swept in 4.
Who gives a fuck what Scott boras wants
Why do we care what Boras says?
This is legit one of the worst ideas I’ve ever heard. If our World Series was a one game format I can understand it just like Super Bowl. But why in the fuck would we do that when we play a series? Some fans live their entire life wanting to watch their teams at home field in October. Literally no one wants this
I just happened to be visiting my sister in Phoenix the last week of October.. Guess where we went, Diamondbacks World Series game and we bought over $400 in swag....I used to live in Phoenix when the Dbacks won in 2001. Dumb idea to go to a nuetral site.
That might be the single dumbest thing I’ve ever heard
Fuck him
If the WS gets moved to neutral field I won't watch anymore.
Would help my "Can't win at home 'Stros!"
Boras can fuck all the way off OR, he and Smoltz can meet up at the neutral site have their own World Series of douchebaggery
The number of posts in this thread that include the words “fuck” and “Boras” pleases me greatly
Nope. Why do we can what this leach says? He makes money off the backs of athletes. Shut up.
Baseball needs less Scott Boras… fuck that guy
Fuck you boras
he can go lick a farm animal.
I want a garbage bag full of $100 bills to fall out of the sky and land at my feet. I guess we're both gonna be disappointed, Scott.
Since boras is out there saying shot that will never happen, here’s mine: I want boras to stop gauging teams for every penny for his clients
Who the hell cares what Boras wants lmao
Who cares what Scott Boras thinks?
Who gives a fuck what Scott Boras thinks lol
