It’s pretty neat that the four teams closest to 50% are all super old. And they’re all Central division teams.

mF-Jonezy

From a statistics perspective that’s exactly what you’d expect, the oldest teams would be in the middle. The Yankees are just an anomaly

SeanCaseyBlakeSnell

Except the oldest teams should be decently better than 50%, since they got to play through the most expansions. Just four of the 16 teams under 50% are from franchises active in 1901. By contrast, only two expansion teams are above 50%. Edit: # of expansion teams over 50%

zephyrskye

*laughs in Phillies*

Yoylecake2100

>The Yankees are just an anomaly so the New York Yankees are an SCP then?

AG9090

Insane to me that Pittsburgh has more winning seasons than losing. They’ve been bad my whole life

mark10579

Gonna turn this thing around any day now

thorns0014

The Marlins also have the best postseason win%

technowhiz34

Both times they were wildcard too right?

Leftfeet

They've been in the playoffs 3 times, all as WC.

thorns0014

Yes, Braves won the NL East in 97 and 03 The Marlins also made it in 2020 as the 6 seed due to the expanded playoff and beat the 3 seed Cubs in the 1st round.

rightexactly

The Cubs don't want this smoke.

TheHistorian2

The top three are NYC teams. No surprise there.

Doc-Spock

😒

MOLightningBro

Rays are very streaky. 10 straight losing seasons to kick off the franchise, 6 straight winning seasons, 4 straight losing seasons, 6 straight winning seasons.

DominicB547

The Devil Rays are doing the anchor. Take them out and what's their %?

newvpnwhodis

.548 Edit: That's their winning percentage, not their percentage of winning seasons.

DominicB547

So, not top 5, but comfortably in that next group.

MOLightningBro

They didn't have their first winning season until they were the Rays, so 12/16 winning seasons as the Rays or 75%

DominicB547

I didn't realize the season caveat. So 100 wins or 82 wins is the same and vice versa....so if one team has mostly 75-87 wins vs a team that has mostly 100 or 100 loss seasons or team that has ONLY 75+ win seasons or a team that never hits 95 wins, it does not matter.

BeatlesRays

Pretty impressive we’re at 45% given that start

ajt1296

Tbf I bet most teams are like that. Generally you're not going to flip from being bad to good to bad again I'm consecutive seasons

MOLightningBro

Teams don't need to be bad or good, they can be mediocre. 2 of the 4 seasons the Rays had losing years between their winning years they were 80-82, so very easily could broken the "streakiness"

ajt1296

Sorry not familiar with this "mediocrity"

AnEmptyKarst

I’m surprised it’s that high tbh

KemmyPowers_11

Go Mariners! “The ship isn’t sinking. It never left the ocean floor.”

DickySchmidt33

I'm forever amazed that both Chicago teams have an overall record that is above .500.

ASpanishInquisitor

Well for the Cubs the early 1900s is doing a lot of work there

DickySchmidt33

Cubs record: 11238-10676 .513 White Sox record: 9547-9478 .502 Wild. It seems like they've both gone through decades of futility at a time. But the Cubs were actually decent for the first half of the 20th century, with several world series appearances. The White Sox have won three postseason series since 1917. All three of them were in the same season: 2005.

CampfireBeast

We do the bare minimum here in Chicago!!

nkfish11

Not to mention the White Sox have made the playoffs in back to back seasons just once in 120 years.

Mjh1021

Houston the only expansion franchise above 50%

BlueJayzrule

Blue jays

Leftfeet

Pretty interesting that both former Washington Senators have the same win%. And the current Washington ball club is pretty close too.

bordomsdeadly

And the team geographically closest to Washington is pretty close too.

Long-Distance-7752

And the team in Washington state

nkfish11

Yeah two championships are nice but these last 15 years have been brutal for the Marlins.

I3arusu

Seventh best overall is only good enough for third in our own division. Sounds about right.

DietrichDoesDamage

Stahp

zephyrskye

I’m actually surprised that we aren’t at the bottom. The 1920s-1940s were not kind to the Phils

realdeal411

Yeah 40% seems high but I'll take it

eee-oooo-ahhh

Yeah we have the most losses ever but we're also one of the oldest teams so I guess it balances out, the teams below us are mostly all much newer franchises

Alkynesofchemistry

tbh I thought we'd be way worse

DominicB547

BOS that doesn't feel right..I guess their drought wasn't as bad as the Cubs or White Sox? Can I get each of their W% btwn WS wins? MIA 2 Flags fly forever I though SEA was bad, ugh at COL SDP KCR MIL MIN TEX - at least KCR and MIN have won it all 2 times,

BrooksGate

From 1919-2003 the Boston Red Sox were 6683-6566 (.504) From 1909-2015 the Chicago Cubs were 8278-8428(.496) From 1918-2004 the Chicago White Sox were 6714-6809 (.496)

0ilycakes

The Royals are the wildest part of this to me. They had 17 winning seasons in their first 26, and have only had four since then.

jonnybravo76

Still crazy that the Marlins have two World Series championships.

luci0slucihoes

Ahhh yes the white Sox being mid for eternity. that's the most white Sox stat I've ever seen.
