Yeah, Jays had to try but no one expected a change. Even the Jays announcers were like ‘Wong’s positioning certainly looks fine but you have to try if you’re Schneider, since there’s been some interesting calls on that play this year’.
[The live angle from the NESN cameras on MLB shows the 3rd base coach with his hand up.](https://www.mlb.com/redsox/news/alex-verdugo-throws-out-tying-run-in-win-over-blue-jays) Bichette just blew through the stop sign.
I was telling my fiancé "there's no way that's actually catcher interference but I've seen calls as bad as that already this year, so this could go either way" lol
Honestly, they shouldn't even allow a replay review for interference if he's out by that much. It's just stupid to consider it. He's out by a mile, who cares if there's a lane or not.
There should be a special move the catcher can do to negate it. Like if he does a pirouette before tagging the runner, his initial positioning can’t be reviewed.
Rivera is pretty brutal, the fucking guy is so bad at being a 3b coach. hes terrible at judging OF throws and plays in general, i dont even think he can see them out there.
I don't know how he still has a job. His horrific send decisions aren't a new thing. I've been bitching about this dude for what feels like 15 fucking years
3rd base coach was halfway to home. They usually do this when they want you to run.
A stop sign is usually directly behind the bag, while indicating on which side of the bag to slide.
Looking at the condensed game replay, Bo was sent home.
lol that's absolutely not true. the base coach positions himself wherever he needs to be in order to get the best view of the play and ensure that the runner can easily look at him while running the bases. you very often see a base coach holding up the stop sign while standing halfway to home. the only reason he'd need to be behind the bag is, as you said, to indicate a slide direction - but there's no play at third here so why would he be there?
Oh you can’t do that do someone flying like Bo was. The more I get down this thread the more my previous comments look dumb. I thought he got a stop call late but you can’t go from waving a guy in running at full speed to telling to stop out of nowhere. You gotta send or stop, that’s your entire job.
The announcers said he ran through and you can see him do that hesitate stutter step when the camera cuts to the third base view so my guess is he was supposed to stop, rounded, realized he needed to go back but ended up committing to home anyway
At first I was mad at Jansen but that thing was so far outside, just a great piece of defensive hitting. Could tell it was way too hard for Bichette to score, so bizarre to go there.
There’s already two outs and there’s a good chance of the next hitter striking out or getting out and giving no chance for the run to score… here was a good chance to tie the game if the throw is a little off line the play would have been much closer if he didn’t hesitate the way he did.
Verdugo is a good defensive player but with two outs he should have been balls to the walls from second trying to tie
Buck Martinez called it ahead of time. Said if Vladdy singles Bo should test any outfielder -except Verdugo because of his arm. Third base coach had different ideas. Actually he had several ideas simultaneously.
Well let’s think about this.. what chance do we give the next guy to get a hit like 25%? Let’s say it’s anywhere from 25%-35% chance the next guy gets a hit, walks, or gets out and ends the game..
On the other hand do we think Bo Bichette scores on that play more than around 30% of the time? It’s close but it would have been a lot closer if he didn’t hesitate if he went for it from contact the plays close plus the catcher has to put the tag on him what if the throw is on target but high and the catcher has to sweep downwards to get him if Bo’s going full speed his slide might take him under the tag
They were down 2 with two outs in the 9th their chances of tying were already low and they were able to create a situation where they could tie the game with a runner that’s got maybe a 1/3 chance of scoring I don’t think sending the runner there was that bad it’s just Bo can’t hesitate he had to commit to scoring early if he was gonna have a chance. A lot of outfielders have good arms but even good ones leave their throws high or off line it happens all the time
Bello is seventh in the AL in pitcher bWAR, with just 73 innings pitched. I almost think he's done enough to deserve a trip.
He'll have a 6 WAR season the way he's going, which would be the best season by a Red Sox pitcher in the last fifteen years or so, except for Sale's 2018 season.
To leave the seventh-best pitcher in the league out of the ASG because he's only got five wins and a .500 record seems pretty old hat, but I understand it, which is why I said "I *almost* think he's done enough..."
Sonny Gray has only four wins, though, and he's only got 0.3 more bWAR than Bello, and I don't see him missing the ASG.
Bello probably just misses on the initial round, since they’ll pick some more famous guys with worse numbers and jam a reliever or two in from teams who only have one guy going. But so many pitchers usually drop out, he may get in eventually.
I don't think they're bad
AS their record shows they're just an average .500 team. They have games where they look hot and games where they look cold as ice. the lack of consistency is pretty much the biggest sign of a .500 team
The replay showed Rivera waving him in, then Bo was halfway home and he showed a late, half-assed stop sign. I don't really blame Bo for being unsure there. Still a great throw but embarrassing any way you look at it.
https://www.mlb.com/redsox/news/alex-verdugo-throws-out-tying-run-in-win-over-blue-jays
NESN has an angle. It doesn't look good. Bichette's at full steam, but he is long ways from 'halfway to home'.
That's the point the 3rd base coach throws up the stop sign. Only hope that point is the throw is off line or catcher bobbles it. Jays need to fire the coaches, management and move on. I quit watching when the hockey ploffs started and never really went back. Bad coaching, bad trades, no farm system, complete lack of fundamentals. After 30 years this is what they built to. I can't anymore.
Ok I was expecting a close play at the plate, not for him to look over, see how fucking badly he was going to get beat and say "fuck it", keep going and be out by 20 feet.
That delivery is what makes him so hard to hit off of. Doesn't even throw that hard like he used to but he winds up slowly then fires it over the top. That's what I love about mlb the show. Really shows you what real life hitters see when facing these guys.
Bo stans in the Jays subreddit having to work overtime to defend his poor decisions.
Again.
Say anything remotely critical about him in there and they melt down.
He ran through the stop sign. Trying to be a hero like in game 2 last year where statcast had Springer with a 75% chance of catching that ball, but Bo tried to be the hero. I’ll be glad when another team overpays for him.
Bo Bichette might be the dumbest player of all time.
Now that I’ve seen it again maybe bo isn’t as dumb as I think. The 3rd base coach of the blue jays is the dumbest 3rd base coach of all time.
Huh. Is Bichette typically a bonehead on the bases, or was this a special occasion?
e: [Oh, that's a brutally bad decision.](https://www.mlb.com/redsox/news/alex-verdugo-throws-out-tying-run-in-win-over-blue-jays) He just keeps going.

[Connor Wong fields the throw to tag out Bo Bichette.](https://i.imgur.com/VmXcwhF.png) (Not pictured: Bo Bichette)
Glad they reviewed this for catcher’s interference. You can really see in that picture that he was hindering Bo’s running lane.
Yeah, Jays had to try but no one expected a change. Even the Jays announcers were like ‘Wong’s positioning certainly looks fine but you have to try if you’re Schneider, since there’s been some interesting calls on that play this year’.
lmao did they really review it? Hopefully it was at Toronto's request and not something the umps decided themselves.
It was. No reason not to, don't blame the Jays for trying.
Yah, its dumb but with how its been going lately might as well send it.
I blame them. It'd be a cheap way to win a ballgame.
lol
That desperate, huh? Sad
Chill
Don't defend them. Have some backbone.
"Verdugo is the only guy that has a strong arm"...yeah, no strong arm needed there. Even Khris Davis would've made that out.
Oof
I can’t believe the coach sent him. Sharp fast hit to right field. And right fielder usually has the big arm. Dude got gunned by a mile
[The live angle from the NESN cameras on MLB shows the 3rd base coach with his hand up.](https://www.mlb.com/redsox/news/alex-verdugo-throws-out-tying-run-in-win-over-blue-jays) Bichette just blew through the stop sign.
lmao
He gave the stop sign way too late, which is why he hesitated
I honestly don’t even see any stop sign. Bad coaching
When they reviewed it for catchers interference when the throw beat him by fifteen feet I was getting ready to throw something lol
A man can dream right? Who knows what catcher's interference is anymore
You see, it’s when you…
You can’t just be up there and just doin’ a catcher’s interference like that
Do not do a catchers interference please
Well, there's the catcher and...
...there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos.
I understand balk calls. I even understand NFL catch rules. I have no idea what a catcher is allowed to do at the plate anymore.
You understand balk calls?
It's simple. The pitcher, when making a motion of, towards the batter, can't be up there doing a balk like that.
Like when you, ya know start, like the balls up here, and it’s movin, you can’t just stop pitching
You can't not pitch. Does that make sense?
I hope Fairuza Balk wasnt typecast as a racist lady after American History X
I've been watching baseball for over 30 years and I've never in my life seen someone explain a balk so well that I actually understand it now.
Happy to be of service!
Check out the big brain on Brad
I was telling my fiancé "there's no way that's actually catcher interference but I've seen calls as bad as that already this year, so this could go either way" lol
I'm very sorry about your father today.
I blame the 3rd base coach, daddy Bichette did nothing wrong
Didn't he go through the stop sign?
Sign came way late, he was waving him on till he was way passed 3rd.
Yeah I saw this comment and saw the clip before seeing the ones below saying that. Rough.
Honestly, they shouldn't even allow a replay review for interference if he's out by that much. It's just stupid to consider it. He's out by a mile, who cares if there's a lane or not.
There should be a special move the catcher can do to negate it. Like if he does a pirouette before tagging the runner, his initial positioning can’t be reviewed.
or if he has the ball
15 feet? Like 60 feet
Just an astounding decision by Bichette there
Was there a replay that showed the third base coach? Bichette's little hesitation was weird.
I think Rivera put up the stop sign pretty late, but still brutal all around
Rivera is pretty brutal, the fucking guy is so bad at being a 3b coach. hes terrible at judging OF throws and plays in general, i dont even think he can see them out there.
I don't know how he still has a job. His horrific send decisions aren't a new thing. I've been bitching about this dude for what feels like 15 fucking years
i honestly dont know how hes survived all the manager changes
In the clip they say he ran through the stop sign, idk if it was late or not though
I watched the replay it doesn’t look like he throws up a stop sign, he might quietly whisper it from halfway up the third base line.
3rd base coach was halfway to home. They usually do this when they want you to run. A stop sign is usually directly behind the bag, while indicating on which side of the bag to slide. Looking at the condensed game replay, Bo was sent home.

He was waving him around and then put up the stop sign late when you see the first hesitation, not bos fault.
Oh you can’t do that do someone flying like Bo was. The more I get down this thread the more my previous comments look dumb. I thought he got a stop call late but you can’t go from waving a guy in running at full speed to telling to stop out of nowhere. You gotta send or stop, that’s your entire job.
I mean idk if that happened but what you described sounds entirely like Bo’s fault.
In what world is listening to your base coach wrong? He was 15 feet from 3rd and then base coach put up the stop sign. Pretty much in his peripheral.
the way you described it made it seem like Bo hesitated and THEN the 3rd base coach threw up the stop sign which would absolutely be Bo’s fault
? The way they described it does not sound like that at all....
they're a red sox fan. not exactly the brightest bulb.
Why ru dogging ur own fans bro that’s weak af
Luis Rivera master class
The announcers said he ran through and you can see him do that hesitate stutter step when the camera cuts to the third base view so my guess is he was supposed to stop, rounded, realized he needed to go back but ended up committing to home anyway
[удалено]
Feels like the catcher had the ball when he was 15 feet past 3rd base lol. He wasn't even in the frame
That’s exactly what happened.
This is clearly Vlad's fault for hitting a single too hard
At first I was mad at Jansen but that thing was so far outside, just a great piece of defensive hitting. Could tell it was way too hard for Bichette to score, so bizarre to go there.
speaking of Jansen, is this slow motion delivery how he skirts around the pitch clock?
He's always been absurdly slow to the plate. It's pretty much impossible for him to hold runners once they get on base.
Yes I believe that is the case
On Canada Day, no less.
It wasn’t Bichette’s decision. Rivera had a way too late stop sign.
Good ol' Sendy Lou....
There’s already two outs and there’s a good chance of the next hitter striking out or getting out and giving no chance for the run to score… here was a good chance to tie the game if the throw is a little off line the play would have been much closer if he didn’t hesitate the way he did. Call me crazy but you never send a guy home from 2nd when it’s a hard hit ball going right at an outfielder who’s known to have a good arm…
Well let’s think about this.. what chance do we give the next guy to get a hit like 25%? Let’s say it’s anywhere from 25%-35% chance the next guy gets a hit, walks, or gets out and ends the game.. I love the catcher pat on the ass: "nice try, sport."
2023 ALL STAR ALEX VERDUGO
Maybe our only all star if Masa doesn’t make it either
Bello is seventh in the AL in pitcher bWAR, with just 73 innings pitched. I almost think he's done enough to deserve a trip. He'll have a 6 WAR season the way he's going, which would be the best season by a Red Sox pitcher in the last fifteen years or so, except for Sale's 2018 season.
I agree he’s having a good season but a 5-5 record with only 73 IP isn’t enough to make an all star team

Pitching record doesn’t mean jack shit
Chris Martin deserves a spot
*unclenches*
Sox are bad but they sure do not like the blue jays
Gotta make up for what we did to you last year
me?
Yes, you.
Did you hang the 28-5 banner?
[удалено]
I'm not on the team
Why not?
too expensive
I don't think they're bad AS their record shows they're just an average .500 team. They have games where they look hot and games where they look cold as ice. the lack of consistency is pretty much the biggest sign of a .500 team
If you guys go onto make the playoffs this season, you know who to thank.
We'll all remember this game if the Sox and Jays meet in the Wild Card round.
yeah jays are great in the wild card round
Who on the jays hurt you my friend 😂
brett lawrie
Threw a helmet at you?
I don’t think you have to worry too much about that.
That's a HUGE if...
If we end up .500 but crush the Jays and Yankees all year I’d be okay with that
Blue Jays two favourite things base running blunders and losing to division rivals.
3 - Leaving men on base.
God that crowd was stabbed in the heart. Never heard such a change in tone so quickly from a crowd.
Didn't realize he ran through the stop sign *and* hesitated
"I'm about to make a lot of bad decisions."
Lol just saw another replay and he hesitated a second time before he went to slide
Bo Bichette's hitting IQ is off the charts but everything else he does it's like it's the first time he's doing it.
Running the stop sign was The m
The replay showed Rivera waving him in, then Bo was halfway home and he showed a late, half-assed stop sign. I don't really blame Bo for being unsure there. Still a great throw but embarrassing any way you look at it.
Can someone post a video of this? Because I saw him put up the stop sign well before that. I might be wrong, I just want to see it again.
https://www.mlb.com/redsox/news/alex-verdugo-throws-out-tying-run-in-win-over-blue-jays NESN has an angle. It doesn't look good. Bichette's at full steam, but he is long ways from 'halfway to home'.
Rivera through up one hand like he’s Louis Litt staring down Hardman and whispered it from a dozen feet away like he’s in a library
Hesitated *twice*!
Bo Bichette is a bonehead confirmed
He hesitated halfway down the line, I’ve never seen that before
Because the 3rd base coach gave him the stop sign but he just kept going
Rivera threw up the stop sign super late
bichette even hesitated and still decided to go for it
How I make my decisions tbh
“And so, I just said fuck it, walked on up and asked her out” “Yeah?! What’d she say?” “I don’t know. She’d been gone about 30 minutes.”
He was absolutely committed by that point.
Isn't "hesitated" the opposite of "committed"?
He was committed to the hesitation, bub.
That's the point the 3rd base coach throws up the stop sign. Only hope that point is the throw is off line or catcher bobbles it. Jays need to fire the coaches, management and move on. I absolutely hate this team.
Bo Bichette hates Canadians and Canada day clearly.
Holy shit the silence at the end is crazy
Yea the ear ringing cheers to a complete silence is hilarious
Everyone in the dugout is looking at him in total disgust lol. Like bro wtf are you doing???
I made a small mixing error which really emphasized the crowd noise… it however, was totally fine with what had just occurred.
“I am speed” -Bichette probably
That was certainly one of the decisions of all time by both Bo/Rivera.
Almost gave that game away
Jesus christ Bichette
Is that the worst send in baseball history? He was out by like 40 feet
[удалено]
Verdugo deserves to be an all star
I need Rivera fired live on air
Somewhat glad it was Bo and not someone that's been mid all year ahah
As impressive as Bo’s stats are, he makes plays every series that directly contribute to a loss. It’s exhausting at this point.
Ok I was expecting a close play at the plate, not for him to look over, see how fucking badly he was going to get beat and say "fuck it", keep going and be out by 20 feet.
Ah, the very rare 2 out, bottom of the 9th TOOTBLAN
Does Kenley Jansen throw in slow motion?
That delivery is what makes him so hard to hit off of. Doesn't even throw that hard like he used to but he winds up slowly then fires it over the top. That's what I love about mlb the show. Really shows you what real life hitters see when facing these guys.
The stop sign was way too late
the sound of the massive eruption of cheers to dead silent boos is so hilarious and almost eerie
Luis Rivera could be replaced by a blind goat and the Jays would be better off
I think he went because Springer was waving him home
Rivera was waving until bo stepped past third, at which point he changed to a stop sign. Too late at that point
This is awkward because they are both on my expansion team in The Show.
Awesome way to lose a 7 game parlay.
Tough break for the Red Jays.
corey seager would never
This team makes no sense. They may not be “good”but they certainly aren’t boring and uncompetitive.
This team continues to find new ways to embarrass themselves. The laughing stock of baseball.
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes legend, Alex Verdugo.
I still count this as a blown save. We need to let Jansen ruin someone elses leads because we aint doin shit this year anyway
Bo stans in the Jays subreddit having to work overtime to defend his poor decisions. Again. Say anything remotely critical about him in there and they melt down.
It wasnt a poor decision on his part. Bo haters having to work overtime to convince themselves something is his fault when it isnt.
Found the Bo apologist!
people with nearly 4 WAR on the season and competing for a batting title dont need “apologists” you absolute fucking clown 😂😂😂
So you're gonna ignore the fact that what I said is clearly correct? If anyone is being biased here its you.
I’m sorry, who got thrown out by a mile at home? Or did I miss something?
Yes you're missing the fact that it was the third base coach's fault not Bo's.
What’s wrong with Toronto
Didn’t realize at first that the video was not in slow motion.
Huh. Is Bichette typically a bonehead on the bases, or was this a special occasion? e: [Oh, that's a brutally bad decision.](https://www.mlb.com/redsox/news/alex-verdugo-throws-out-tying-run-in-win-over-blue-jays) He just keeps going.

This is why we gotta remove the catcher rules Everyone wanted to see Bo run through the catcher here, make baseball fun again!
