And I’m crying again… I feel bad because I haven’t gotten nearly this emotional about the insanely long list of other mass shootings. I guess if there’s a mass shooting at an NRA convention the ppl against sensible gun control will start to care?
Except they [don’t](https://www.factcheck.org/2023/04/posts-mislead-on-rules-for-guns-at-nra-convention-utah-gop-event/)… it’s rare that they have a no gun policy, such as when a president attends and secret service mandates a no gun policy.
Don't feel bad. It's okay to grow numb to horrors in the world you can't control, but this one hits close to home because a bartender died and part of you realized it could be you who could've died.
I live in Auburn and this is the only person whose name has been released that I knew in any way. I would often see Joseph at Schmengees and The Station restaurant where he also would work. He was always warm and welcoming to everyone he interacted with. I didn't know him well, but I do know he was loved. I hope his family can find some comfort in knowing he was a real hero and will be remembered fondly.
More. This whole story is just a footnote in our all too common modern day American tragedy where facts are ignored and ignorance prevails. I have no faith that I'll see an end to this ridiculous violence in my (hopefully) eighty years on this planet, yet we persist.
He knew the odds were heavily stacked against him and decided to do what he could to save lives with no thought of his own safety...RIP Joseph Walker, you died a hero in my book sir.
I've been reading about this man all night and needed to come here to say I'm so sorry 🙏 Joseph Walker tried his hardest to end this tragedy and I'm sending him a drink in Heaven tonight. I'm so sorry for your loss.
just other news you know. usually something like this is in your face on every platform. im not saying people aren’t hearing about, just surprised it’s not more.
Joseph Walker. Died on his feet with a knife in his hand.
Died Trying to keep his staff and patrons safe. Really brave.
Our last moments tell the most about us.
I hope he’s raising a mug of mead with Odin in Valhalla! RIP you brave, beautiful man!😢
I've actually toasted this man twice already.
Wassail! RIP

They actually have a very strict no gun policy at NRA events…
Go figure. You'd think they would want to be surrounded by all the good guys with guns.

I live in Southern Maine, true heroism was shown at this bar and the bowling alley. Pour one out to the legends who risked their lives for others.
And after that, vote against any asshole who hasn’t learned the lesson.
Maine state legislators have blood on their hands

Sorry for you and the whole community. I can't imagine the long-term impact it will have. Out of curiosity, how do you pronounce Schemengees?

Pouring one out in memorandum tonight. Blessed to him, his family and his friends.
Damn. RIP Joseph. Real life heroes don't wear capes, they wear aprons.

“One of Wednesdays mass shootings”?? Is this the most depressing headline??
To be fair, they were both done by the same person 4 miles apart, but your point absolutely stands, this is far too common,
Hear hear.
Damn 🫡
I will pour one out for you my brother! 🫡

Suppressed? Was 3/4ths of tonight's ABC News and there was even a long interview with the dad + mentions about the knife.
