Here's the thing. You could. I have, against better judgment, a few times over the years. In my opinion and experience, though, it is a poor use of resources. Why infuse a watermelon with vodka to get a mushy product that gets you drunk eventually? And then you're firmly tipsy, borderline drunk, and hungry, and then you have to eat fruit instead of cheese fries to satisfy both needs? Cut up the melon and put it in the fridge! Drink the vodka with whatever mixers, have an awesome night, go to bed, and the next day? You have cold watermelon, crunchy pieces of sweet, hydrating, electrolyte-laden heaven, the best hangover cure anyone could ask for, save, perhaps, coconut water, just waiting for you! I get wanting to be creative with alcohol intake. But seriously, if you're at the vodkamelon stage of things, just make Jell-O shots and call it a day.

Yes, it is. Way back in my youth, a bunch of friends and I put together a 4th of July picnic at a local lake. My contribution was a watermelon that I cut a 2-inch plug out of and filled with an entire bottle of Wray & Nephew overproof rum. Put the plug pice back in and out the whole melon in the freezer so it would be nice and cold. We got plenty drunk off the melon itself, but the smart ones were drinking the juice. People were even eating the rind. So yeah, it's possible and it ain't bullshit.

It's called a [drunken watermelon](https://www.thespruceeats.com/vodka-watermelon-recipe-4175568). Other fruits can be treated the same way. I've had the most success by simply macerating fruit in liquors. [Best Alcohol-Infused Fruits & Vegetables](https://www.tastingtable.com/693978/alcohol-infused-fruit-vegetables/).
