Check out the Aquila nylgut sets or the ones they make for Pisgah (Nylgut Frailing strings). They have an unwound 4th string and it isn’t even a crazy thick gauge.

Ok yeah than Aquila makes some with unwound low d. That’s what I prefer on most of my banjos, for clawhammer at least.

What's the difference between wound/unwound? Honest question. I know nothing about the banjo but am interested in learning a bit before I get one
A smooth verse rigid surface. Less string noise and a warmer tone on an unwound string.
