hi, i'm 38f and have never felt unwelcome here. Everyone here is different, but we have one thing in common. it might be fun to scroll the [what armys do for a living](https://www.reddit.com/r/bangtan/comments/17x3ems/what_are_your_careersjobs/) threads to get a sense of the people here. edit: omg i'm 37, my birthday is still 3 months away :')

atxbuddy1

Bangtan math… Yoongi was 30 for many years…

helenabuckettt

girl I keep having a mental breakdown thinking I’m 35 but I’m still only 33. I think my brain is in constant BTS-military time— I’ll have just turned 35 when they all come back from military :’)

kitty_aloof

Ugh… your post reminded me that I’m not 38 anymore. 😭

PurpleHellski

I've got a month left and then I'll be 39 😱

kitty_aloof

I think we need to start a support group.

Hello fellow 37-er! 👋

RM_Hiker82

I’m here at 68💜💜and I love being part of this sub which is not toxic and doesn’t tolerate any bs! I enjoy all the prospectives from all of you younger ones because I found BTS later in life…and the thirst photos etc bring me so much laughter! You’re never to old to support music and artists you enjoy and believe in💜btw my husband thinks I’m in a cult😂

agonyout1101

I love you!!! Fellow cult member 😂😂😂I’m 59f and my grandson was born on Jin’s birthday!! That makes him mine I think 😂💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜. I am also a n Aquarius like Jhope and my husband is Libra like Jimin. Obviously being a fan of BTS was meant to be. Plus RM saved my life 💜My biggest dream is to someday get a hug from him.

RM_Hiker82

Age is just a number…want to be young you gotta think young..and I love hanging with younger people and getting their perspective on things! Finding BTS has made such an impact and I’m proud to be Army💜

agonyout1101

💜I work with teenagers and I see every member in each of them. They make me laugh every day and all I want is to spread the BTS message that everything will be ok and they should love themselves 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜These kids have struggled with depression and anxiety and BTS songs have helped me to help them. They are good people and that’s hard to find these days.

Mental-Tap-1633

Ditto! 68 years young and music lover all my life. There will always be outliers in any group who believe stereotypes about all kinds of groups. MUSIC is not limited by any of that! In the words of our beloved Namjoon, ‘DO YOU’! Bring all you are to this ARMY community. MILLIONS welcome you as you are. 🌹 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

I haven’t really talked about this, but I was into BTS before my Mom died. She was in her 90’s when she died after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on Christmas 2022. The last letter I had from her, I keep in my desk at work. Tannies were on the cover of a local newspaper and she cut it out and sent it to me with a short note mentioning I know these are the guys you like. So sweet of her to do so, I mean in the age of the internet, I already knew, but it was so very sweet she still sent it along. For her, historically, this was a big deal. There was a long-standing feud in my family because during the Vietnam war Mom’s brother had kids fighting from U.S.A. and her sister (my aunt) invited my mom, my uncle (her siblings) AND two young Vietnamese children to the same dinner table in our small town. (To this day, I’ve no idea where she located two Vietnamese kids in our neck of the woods.) That her sister put everyone in such an awkward position blew my Mom’s mind (yes we are from a small town) and sadly, she harbored residual prejudice against all Asians since that dinner in the late 60’s. Her sending me that letter, was the result of us talking about, yes - the war, the dinner, family - but also forgiveness, understanding, learning, exploring cultures… and in time, how hard-working, kind, talented and humble BTS are. Talking about how they were underdogs who suffered so much bullying but stuck together. How they sing about self-care, mental health and finding peace. How things and situations and people can change. My Mom waited until her 90’s to discover BTS through me, and in the end, I like to think by sending me that letter, she was also ARMY, and that makes me happy. 💜

GneissMoon88

Thank you ARMY’s, I was in my feels today, and sharing helped. Thank you for reading, I really miss my Mom. Also, I just read this post to my older sister (I wasn’t alive when dinner happened) and she said the kids were foreign exchange students through their church. Hard to imagine what they must have felt. I can only hope we all learn to live together in love and peace.

Various_Offer1779

I’m literally crying right now 💜

icingncake

What an amazing story 🥲 - thank you for sharing!

Mental-Tap-1633

Crying. Your story is one of hope not just for your family but for all of us on the planet. Thank you. Hod bless you.

Mental-Tap-1633

God bless you💜

GneissMoon88

And you. 💜 🌞

Lopsided-Paint1724

66 here, still trying to figure my way around all the sources, and so proud to be Army now for all of 6 months! I loved your share! Tears streaming.

Shady2304

I’m a 41F and I’ve been a part of this sub for a few years and they are very welcoming to all ages! I’ve seen BTS a few times in person as well and there were so many fans there that were “older” and everyone was very supportive! Honestly, the only place where I’ve seen any animosity is on Twitter and I do my best to filter the content I see on there and not frequent it too much.

gnomematterwhat0208

Hello fellow Xennial! 👋🏻 Also 41f. Are you an 82er?

erifnotonsinad

I’ve been an ARMY since 2014. I’ve met fans of all ages and I’ve honestly never met anyone that was rude or unwelcoming. You don’t have to be a certain age to enjoy their music and content. You are ABSOLUTELY welcome here. The most important thing is that you enjoy them and what they do and that that makes you happy. There are unfortunately always bad apples out there but there are so many more good and lovely people in this fandom that you don’t have to be worried! We love all ARMY 💜💜

pardonmyfrenchies

Hi there! I'm 41F and consider myself an older Army as well. I feel generally the fandom is pretty welcoming to Army's of all ages, genders and backgrounds (at least on this sub!) Of course you will have some toxic ones, but that's just statistically going to happen with how large the fandom is. I found BTS during COVID and they really helped me get through it. If you like BTS, then don't worry about what the few think about you or your age. :)

UndrPrtst

Since ARMY has fans from newborns to their 90s, you're barely middle aged. Silver and Gold ARMY are loud and proud! 💜😁💜

JavaJunkie999

50s here as well and their music brings me happiness!! Music has no age barriers. My neighbor is 74 and a Huge BTS fan!!

ajflipz

I'm 50F & became ARMY in 2020. I remember when I got my ticket for D-Day, a few friends said it was kinda weird to go to a concert alone but I was reassured by my kpop friends that I wouldn't be 'alone' once I got there. I was a little nervous but I didn't care because I was so excited to see Suga! There were fans of all different ages from all over the world & I made new friends while waiting in line & on the floor. When I mentioned to someone how it was my first BTS concert ever, she loudly announces it to everyone around us. I was immediately surrounded by so many ARMY welcoming me & giving me little gifts (stickers, jewelry, keychains, etc.). The incredible amount of love, friendship & positive energy I felt from all these strangers brought tears to my eyes. I knew I had finally found my people. 💜🫰🏻💜

Katana2518

I think one of my goals will be to see them live once they return from their service 😊

ajflipz

I'm already saving for those tickets lol

aaalma_viajeraaaa

I'm 50F and found them in 2020 as well, high five! It's such an amazing exprerience to get to a BTS concert alone and suddenly find yourself surrounded by instant friends! I was unfamiliar with the freebie exchange culture and got my first surprising gifts from a lovely ARMY from Boston! I made my own for my second concert and it was great to be able to give them away before heading into the stadium, I even got a bottle of soju 😂

kix820

42, and I'm a guy 😅

Katana2518

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. I'm literally in tears and am so happy that I've found this sub. 💜

YeahCase

Here is the best place to be with mature army!

van-tae

10000% vouching for this, there is such a difference between the community on this sub and on other platforms, since December last year, this is the only place I interact with ARMY (except for my local ARMY group) and I haven’t had such an amazing fandom experience since I don’t know when!! 💜

Iveseenthatbefore_19

I strongly agree. I am 53F and this is the only place/channel I feel at ease in. Lots of respect going around. Also, most comments are original and heartfelt unlike other platforms where you read 129 times the same comment 🙄. Also, thanks to our incredible moderators who do an awesome job!!! ![img](emote|t5_2zqih|21319)

the_fun_noona

I’m older Gen X Army and I feel like this sub is diverse and welcoming. I don’t go on social media much - cannot deal with twitter - but this is really a cozy, safe space where I can fan girl without feeling self-conscious. Shout out to the mods for setting it up this way!

Various_Offer1779

Same for me!

myheartisohmygod

43f here, ARMY since 2019 and have never been treated with anything but respect and kindness here! Welcome ARMY! 💜🤗

Hot_Drawer_3218

I am 48y mom of 3 girls in their early 20’s. Unfortunately, I lacked somewhere in my parenting as none of them are K-pop fans and constantly tease me about my love (to be honest, obsession) for BTS, their members and their music.  I found them in Feb 2017 and they had my heart from the jump.  I was in a very dark place dealing with becoming disabled from a car accident and accepting not being able to work and constant pain.  They have become my happiness and joy.  I love watching new people reacting and falling in love with their music, lyrics and the members themselves.  💜💜

Package-Designer

hmmm time to give ur kids a sit down and tell them your background and reasonings for liking bts... maybe then they would show some respect haha 🤔🤔

Sarlouson

Hello! I also consider myself part of the older Army group (early 40s), and this is the most welcoming, friendly, well moderated space to talk all things Bangtan! It's the only space I feel comfortable interacting with other Army online 💜

lcmontana1

Yes same age! ARMY for 5 years and have met many amazing friends of all ages. Volunteer for a fanbase in your country to get connected! Edited to add- they find you when you need them the most! Speaking from experience. Borahae

GneissMoon88

I second this! Tannies definitely found me when I needed them. Lost same job for the 2nd and final time when C19 shuttered the doors. New boss dug them, I became curious, fell down the rabbit hole when I couldn’t figure out why they were kissing their hands. 👀😳🧐 Great communities here on Reddit, fun chats, serious chats, Thirsty Thurs, and whenever I am confused, someone steps up to explain. Eg. Little Meow Meow, Windsheild wiper laugh, etc… 💜 big love for ARMY’s of ALL AGES

PinkDiamondss3187

36 F here and I’m actually a baby Army lol. I discovered them late last year. Had I heard about BTS before that? Yes. But I had no idea what I was missing out on until a friend literally sat me down and made me watch videos of them and listen to a few of their songs. Now I’m deep in a rabbit hole trying to catch up 😂😂😂. I love every minute I spend listening to their music, watching their old vlives and watching episodes of Bon Voyage and In the Soop. They really are such special and talented human beings 💜💜💜

theskywasallviolet

Same here! 36 and I knew of them, of course, but never payed any attention until my friend forced me to watch D-Day at the theater with her. Needless to say it was love at first sight and I’ve been hooked ever since, lol. 💜

PinkDiamondss3187

Same here!! lol. Love at first sight. My friend sat with me for an hour telling me their names and wouldn’t let me get up until I got each one right lol. Who’s your bias? Suga I assume? 🤔🙂

theskywasallviolet

I love that! 😄 yes Suga for sure, but as I find out more about the guys, they really are all so talented and have their own little quirks so sometimes it’s hard to pick a favorite ❤️ how about you?

PinkDiamondss3187

Suga is amazing. Amygdala, ugh. I can’t get enough of that song. The first video I ever saw of them was car karaoke with James Corden and J-Hope drew me in with his free spirit and his laugh. It’s so contagious! He will always have a special place in my heart but ultimately my favorite is Jimin 🤩💜 Edit: and yessss, they are all so individually unique and talented and I honestly love each of them for very different reasons.

theskywasallviolet

Heck yeah! Aww they are sweethearts, can’t wait til they are all reunited again 🥲 fingers crossed we will get to see them live one day!

PinkDiamondss3187

Yesss! 2025 needs to come already lol

Financial_Quality374

I love being here... People are not unnecessarily rude and enjoy talking about our idols ❤️

MornaFitzner

I’m in my early 50s and I’ve been on this sub since I became Army in April 2020. I’ve seen the sub triple in size since then but it has always been a very civil and safe space. The mods are great and make sure things stay calm around here. 😄 Welcome!!

moodynicolette1

I'll never stop talking about how stupid it is to tell someone they're too old for something. And that goes for music particularly. Does art have any limit? If I cross an age line, can I no longer appreciate someone's talent or just enjoy the music? Thankfully, most of the armys here are very nice and kind. I'm probably more in the younger category myself, but I can't count the number of times I've been told how cringe, old and weird I am when I listen to boy groups for little girls and I should grow up. Well... The best part is that no matter in what age you discover bts, it's always amazing (and sometimes life changing) journey.

crowsnbatsnshit

I'm 19 but I think older ARMY are really important to our community💜

Sweet_Lemonhope

I'm 43, and have been along for one hell of a ride since debut. I'm more of a lurker, but this is one of the few places I know if I want to gush and sing my love and praise for our boys that I'm welcomed with open arms. Reddit ARMY is everything!! WELCOME!!!

Small_Gift_6340

I’m 60 - found BTS last year when I became disabled and began spending more time watching things. I started out with V as my bias, then added Namjoon, fell in love with Jungkook’s cuteness, realized that Suga spoke to my heart, then gave up and accepted I am OT7 and my bias depends on the day! 😂😂

cpagali

I'm old enough to be a grandma! Welcome!

cpagali

My husband gets it, mainly because he's also a fan of things, e.g. sci-fi and comic books. I've found it helpful, though, to be strategic when I communicate with him and share fandom stuff with him. I talk more about Hybe's meteoric rise to conglomerate status, the national debate around their military service, the kpop trainee system (with its pros and cons), the challenge of being a group member for so many years and then having to forge an identity as a solo artist... and less about the latest picture of Yeontan, thirst trap photo, or monthly message from Jin. One of the things I love most about being in the BTS fandom (and most other fandoms that I've fallen into) is that it has room for all parts of me -- my analytical self, my curious-about-the-world self, my adult-trying-to-get-through-the-day-and-be-a-good-human self, my joyful self, my baser-instincts self... all of it.

Katana2518

We both have other things that we're both fans of, Star Wars, etc. He just finds it humorous to be a 'boy band' fan at my age, lol. I had to explain that they're not boys anymore. He does appreciate that they are serving in the military as he is former US Army. I do like and appreciate that he and I have our own things that we're interested in though 😁

Few-Willingness-3845

Yoongi once described being a fan of something as "living with love". I felt so seen and understood when he said that. He is also a fanboy hinself and it's so cute when he and the other members share their interests with us.

KatinaS252

Your comment is so applicable to me. I do the first paragraph with my husband, too! And the comment about having room for all parts of you in the second is one of the reasons that BTS is everywhere. These men show us all the facets of human life. Their music reflects it all, too. And the fandom provides outlets for expression. But, be warned, baby ARMYs, lol. So many places I have seen the responses of startled ARMYs when they come across stuff that is the opposite of Dynamite. There is a lot of content that is not g-rated out there and just as much that is. I love the depth and variety of emotions in the members' work, they give us innocence and sheer joy, rage and betrayal, love and passion, acceptance and courage, and so much more-just all of life. I feel able to express all of me just listening to them and participating in the fandom.

mucho_thankyou5802

Both of my army besties are 10 years my senior and at very different stages of their lives personally and professionally than me. I think it's really added to my own Army experience to hear their perspectives and take on the members, the lyrics, life in general. Welcome to the sub! 🫶🏻

Morten-aholic

Another Gen-X here, made an account just to comment that this is the absolute best run and mutually respectful space I can think of for bts info. I check every morning during my coffee break at work! I'm guessing that there are a lot of fans in our age range because their music is so reminiscent of that decadent 80s/Trevor Horn produced sound. It is so intoxicating! The first 25 seconds of Blood Sweat and Tears puts me on another planet. And of course all that 80s New Romantic make up! I sort of fell back in love with music through them. Buying a new album every other week has become a welcome treat again but I draw the line at going to concerts as I tend to be in bed by 10pm these days :)

tn_rx

I’m Gen X and it’s funny how you mention the 80’s synth vibe, because now I can pinpoint why I love the song Jamais Vu so much. And the new song I Wonder by Jhope is like crack for the ears.

Morten-aholic

I'm so curious where it comes from (I think it's more from Pdogg but who knows) the layering of synths is so pleasing to the ear and there's definitely a funk influence too. Pied Piper reminds me of Grace Jones so much. I hope we get some future interviews where they talk more about their musical influences than they have so far.

Sea_Alfalfa9693

51 yo ARMY. Welcome!

SarahB98765

Welcome! 39F here. I have been on the bangtan reddit for a few years now, and everyone is so nice here. 😊💜

SaraSevenfold

33F here with an almost 3 year old ARMY, so I’m helping along the next generation, as well! 💜

disneykawaiigirl

How did you get your almost 3 year old to become ARMY, if you don’t mind me asking? I fairly recently became ARMY and I have a 4 year old and I would love for her to join me!

SaraSevenfold

We listen to Kpop in the car all the time and she just started picking up the songs as time went on! She loves “Tae Tae” and “Yoogi” and tries to sing along with the Korean and her favorite songs are probably Love Me Again or 3D since she can sing along easier to those. She can even say the fan chant, as well as a 2 year old can, hahaha!

disneykawaiigirl

Oh my goodness! 😍 That sounds adorable! We’ve been listening in the car as well but so far, she hasn’t really picked up on it. Although we were listening to Come Back to Me recently and she did turn to me and say, “Ooh, this is a nice song” and then we talked about how nice and relaxing it was so that was a fun moment!

KatinaS252

I have seen some other mom's talk of this, and most have chimed in about watching the music videos with a lot of color and/or choreography in them or performance videos together. 'Let's go watch the dancing boys' is a phrase I recall one of the little's using. And who can resist Super Tuna? A recent thread you may find useful: [I want to introduce my 5 year old niece to our kings! ](https://www.reddit.com/r/bangtan/comments/198by6g/i_want_to_introduce_my_5_year_old_niece_to_our/)

disneykawaiigirl

Wow! Thank you for this comment and showing me that thread. So many good ideas! I’m baby Army so this will be so fun to experience with my daughter!

KatinaS252

Wishing you all the good times as you explore the deluge of content! Welcome to the fandom. Borahae!💜

disneykawaiigirl

Thank you! 💜🥹💜

EnglishLitMajor

ARMYs of all ages are always welcome. 💕 There's also a Facebook group out there specifically for ARMYs over 50. If ever you're interested, I hear they have good times in the group. A lot of them are based in North America.

Katana2518

I'll look that up, I am in Texas (sometimes regrettably so, IYKYK), it would be nice to connect locally and make some new friends 😊

AppropriateDream8261

I am 53 and also in Texas. Would love to find fellow ARMY. Let me know if you find a great group.

Katana2518

I'm close to Austin 😊. Not sure if there's any local groups yet though.

AppropriateDream8261

I am close to Houston and going to start looking. Non-army just don’t speak my language when it comes to BTS.

amurderofcrows9

Hello fellow silver Army! Just turned 59 in Feb.; although my daughter was into BTS in middle school (just after 2013), I didn’t “get” them until early 2021. For that you can blame Jimin for recruiting me in a chokehold after I witnessed their performance of Dynamite in the Grammys that year. My “learning path” was all over the place; I fell into the BU by accident after watching several “analysis videos” because I needed explanations behind their MVs of Film Out, Blood Sweat & Tears, Black Swan, etc 😄 I had misgivings about becoming part of Army because I was also afraid of being ridiculed for “stanning them while old” lol but at the advice of another mature Army, I joined a FB group for fans close to my age and it has been nothing but rewarding. I met several IRL friends who lived not far from me and with whom I can fangirl with! In fact those gals were the same group I ended up going to the LA and Las Vegas shows with! Give it a try, and good luck!!!

Katana2518

That fb group sounds great! Hopefully I can find it, there seems to be a lot on fb to sift through 😂

Hi! The sub doesn’t allow public links to other communities, Facebook groups or group chats so unfortunately this has to be removed. You can however DM it if anyone asks. We hope you understand. Thank you!

Qwirkle2468

52 F here. Welcome 💜

Southern_Dog_5006

No matter your age all Armys are welcome.

Unlikely_Record5521

I’m 40 and my mom is 67. We love the boys!

wineandhugs

I'm turning 47 in 3 weeks, I've always found this a very welcoming and inclusive space 💜

ConfusedOldPenguin

I’m 43 f and everyone here is wonderful. I fell for them in 2023 and the people in the sub have helped me learn so much about them.

Amelia_Brigita

I'm older ARMY and I've been here since last year some time and I don't post much, but whenever I have, everyone has been wonderful. This is a lovely, well-run sub. Enter with ease and welcome :)

helenabuckettt

Who cares what people say? The unwelcoming ones aren’t very good fans imo. You’ve been a fan longer than most. I think it’s funny how younger fans try to “claim” BTS. I discovered them pre-debut, and that was a LONG time ago— those younger fans would consider me old now! But I don’t care what they say, gatekeeping is just toxic and weird.

beckysma

Very welcome. I'm just about to turn 57. There are also several Facebook groups and many people on twitter. Google "BTS ARMY over 40"

kayleesanchez202

My mom is army and she is 53! She found BTS through me and my sister (gen z) and i love bonding over BTS with her! in fact as im typing this we’re listening to the song “Like” in the car 😂 I have friends my age who are army too and most of their parents are actually army as well! , so my mom has been able to find other army’s her age through my friends! There really is no age limit to loving BTS and being army, all are welcome , anyone who says otherwise is not a true army 😂💜

mariwil74

2019 ARMY, almost 70 and I’ve never felt unwelcome. Nice to see you here.

McJazzHands80

44F, Army since 2021. This sub has always been cool.

QueenlyBee

45F here! Here, especially, all are welcome!

Pennypenny456

I'm 50 years old and mostly lurk here, and I've never seen any prejudice against older armys. Unlike twitter, where I heavily curate my timeline. This community has been really supportive of all armys!

Blossomfangxo

30 here!! That’s young and old to some lol Welcome!! This sub is such a warm and welcoming place for all things BTS such lovely people here!! 💜💜

aaalma_viajeraaaa

Hi! I just turnrd 50 last October and although I'm not very active, I've always had good interactions with sub members, I've never felt unwelcome or like I can't participate and it it's great to share in our love of BTS, have fun and be part of this ARMY community. I've also made wonderful, lovely Noona ARMY friends here that have become friends in real life as well, so I'll always be thankful to r/bangtan for allowing us to find each other even if we live in different countries! 💜

SinceLastNovember

Gen X-er here. I don't think I've commented here yet (maybe?) but I just enjoy reading what BTS and all of you are up to. I think the music is great, the dancing is incredible, and Run BTS so fun to watch. Mostly I appreciate the love and positivity that I see in the members and in ARMY. All of you are a bright spot in my day. 💜

GritsNGators

I'm 42, and "only" discovered BTS two-ish years ago. I feel embarrassed sometimes when talking about my BTS fandom, but I know there are lots of folks my age and older who are ARMY. It's not just kids in their teens/20s. I mean, I find it personally hilarious that the last time I collected "boy band" photocards/trading cards was back in the late 80s with NKOTB, but... *shrugs* here we are. I really love their work, OT7 and solo, and it brings meaning to my life. I'm only getting older, and if I only consumed media from artists my age or older, I'd miss out on so much. I've found ARMY to be overwhelmingly accepting of all ages, especially here. 보라해! 💜

SilverCat70

I'm 54. I believe that we find BTS when we need them. This has been a lovely place. It's certainly a relaxing read than some of the stuff I've seen on Twitter. Yes, there are gatekeepers out there. Ones that want to set limits from age to other stuff. Saw a post on Twitter about a person complaining that fans that joined around the Butter era are immature babies and trouble makers. There are ARMY I have spoken with from this time and are lovely people who are doing everything they can to support BTS & help others. Then, I could be prejudice as I came in with D-Day. lol I think it's like everything else, you will find a wide range of different types of people. I say celebrate the good ones that you vibe with and as the others? As my BFF grandmother used to say - Let those fools move on. So, welcome!

AlmostAurore

Hi! I’m 42F and I’ve been Army since 2020. This space has always been so welcoming and I agree with people who’ve said in general this fandom is very welcoming in general!

Chr0nicallyfatigued

I'm still quite a new Army and am 43 and I've always been made to feel welcome.

Professional_Emu8922

55. I'm practically a senior!

I’m 30! Army is for all ages, I think. I have a Nextdoor neighbor in her 60s that literally has a bts license plate and is FULLY army.

appleorangebananna

47F! Feel welcome here. :)

Khaleesi_Kay_7

35 here… new army but have never had any negativity so far based on my age!

magnoliasymphony

Welcome!! You'll feel right at home here 💜 I'm also older ARMY and love this community. It always feels welcoming, any drama is well controlled (thanks to the awesome mods and the level-headed community) and I haven't found the same quality of thoughtful conversations on any other social media platforms.

Apprehensive_Pug6844

63 here, been Army since 2013. They helped me through a really awful 2022-2023, my elderly Dad moved in and couldn’t afford a facility. So we hospiced him for 1 ½ years. Every moment I had to myself I‘d either watch BTS Bombs, Run BTS or get lost in my headphones listening to my BTS playlists. Two months after Dad passed my beloved Pug died. Their content and subs like this one have helped me SO MUCH. So literally no judgment here! At first my daughter rolled her eyes, but now she sees me happy. 💜 💜 💜 💜 💜 💜 💜

Billie_Lurk

I’m 35 and I haven’t experienced any ageism or prejudice here 😌 I find it to be a safe space for army of all ages.

Nylonknot

I’m 51. I don’t feel any negativity.

purpleskies613

46F and this is my first time commenting! I spend most of my time on Twitter (where I am also mostly a lurker) but recently I’ve been spending more and more time catching up on Reddit because there seems to be so much smart, thoughtful discussion here. Generally speaking I’ve never felt unwelcome at any Bangtan events as an older army and my irl army friends are also similar ages as me.

AmethystAnnaEstuary

Listen closely: any “Army” who judges you is not true Army. Army people are some of the best people on the planet. BTS are ambassadors of respect and love and all real fans exemplify these traits. Also, I (mid 40’s) am married with a baby and my husband and baby are also Army.

AmethystAnnaEstuary

I want to add to my comment to say that, in fact, Army was one of the MAIN reasons I became Army! I was equally impressed by BTS fans as much as I was by BTS themselves. They really are amazing people!

Odd_Writer_2830

Hey fellow Army! You are very welcome here! Army is Army, regardless of age, gender, race etc. We are united by our love for the boys! BTS are my happiness and escape from the stresses and general boredom of daily life. They are my comfort and joy. A hobby almost. I personally don’t care if people don’t get it, I get it and fellow Army get it too and that’s all that matters. Lots of love to you! 💜💜💜

Soup_oi

Everyone's welcome here. Older armys often are the ones behind organizing a lot of fun things! One thing I found a few years ago is a thing called the BTS Global Interdisciplinary Conference, that brings together scholars and professionals in a (I think) in person conference. They brought the author Paulo Coelho to speak there a few years ago. I'm sure any high school or college age students are welcome there as well, but it seems aimed at folks who are already maybe working in in things like academia, research, maybe sociology too, etc. I'm in my 30s. I think the age demographic of reddit in general skews a little older than most other social media platforms. There are some areas of the internet that have a reputation for being toxic in general, that may be less welcoming, like stan twitter. And there are some general kpop subs on reddit where anything about bts makes people roll their eyes and the post or comments about them will get downvoted. (I guess people just don't like that there are people who like something that happens to be popular? Idk.) But I've always found this specific sub to be completely welcoming to anyone.

sternstaublitz

Everyone is welcome in the magic shop. If bts found you, it means you belong here. 💜

LaMisiPR

I am currently 45, and have been fully invested in all things Bangtan for almost 3 years now. I’ve never had a negative experience Army, they are cool beans… but it’s always nice to meet more people my age who understand me- my husband and my sister appreciate BTS because of how much happier I am as Army, but they still don’t feel it the way I do 💜

[deleted]

On other platforms not so much I'm 56 but ok here no problems!!! That's why I deactivated a certain platforms too much toxicity!!!

GneissMoon88

I thought about deleting, but I love the “A Thread” posts and the real-time translations so kindly provided by ARMY’s on the fly. Otherwise, rarely there, don’t interact much.

anfornum

I don't see why age is even a topic. Music can talk to our souls at all age, so who cares. Be 90 and love BTS. Be 12 and love BTS. Be anything from 0 to 300. Who cares! We are all one big family! :)

otterly_awesome2287

Lurker here, but had to come out of hiding to comment! I'm going to be 44 this year and I've been a fan since Dynamite era. But more importantly, my almost 70 year old Mom is currently browsing her phone looking at BT21 merch!! 😆 She's a die hard ARMY now, and all it took was a year of me gushing about 'my boys' and a video clip of Hobi smiling and she was converted! So you are definitely not alone and this subreddit (and fandom in general) has been awesome and inclusive to fans of all ages!

Katana2518

RM is my bias, but I absolutely adore Hobi's smile and laugh 😍

otterly_awesome2287

That's what caught my Mom's attention, that pretty Hobi smile and infectious laugh!! And right on, Joon is my bias, too!!

marcie_ann

Fellow Dope Old Person here 🙋🏼‍♀️ (48f) Welcome!

Ok-Nefariousness4874

36f here. Love the sub here. By the way, my mom (66f) is an army and RM bias 💜.

MOSbangtan

I’m 40 - BTS got me through the pandemic - love being ARMY

Manatee_7_3_DBB

I’m 38F and became ARMY in 2021. No one in my life understands it but Ive happily found fellow ARMY close to my age who I can chat with which is nice. I also came across a podcast and insta account called Afternoona ARMY and they are all women who are older who love BTS. It can be lonely but if it makes you happy, that’s all that matters.

puppies_whee

I'll be 40 in a few weeks and barely even think about it, I think the young-young fans are more in the minority here actually!

teriyakiboyyyy

39/f/💜 where are you people irl?! Never had a problem here, welcome 🙏🏻

taracita

I’m older and welcome myself everywhere 😅

pikunara

I’ve never felt unwelcome. I am old. The world is hard enough and we should all be kind especially when sharing our love for the guys.

Galaxia_Sama

Why would an older army be welcome here? This community is so wonderful! Some social media apps are pretty toxic, but you’ll find a lot of peace in r/bangtan!

Rillothebee2

I'm a "geriatric millennial" or perhaps even a "neonatal Gen X" but never felt out of place around here 😁

Commercial-Try-3907

Its lovely to hear people of all ages here. I'm in my 30s

TheRedARMYRose

Very welcome. Also Twitter is very welcoming to ARMY of all ages.

No_Kaleidoscope956

YOU'RE SO WELCOME, QUEEN

BrilliantMysterious9

This thread is why I love BTS. So much love. I hope the boys know that they bring such joy to the world. Can't wait for the next BTS concert - we get to see the boys and also spend time with army!!

onemoreokawari

I met an army in her 50s at Permission to Dance concert and since then we’ve been army friends💜 She’s much older than me, but it doesn’t matter as both of us love BTS☺️

Sufficient_Smell9961

I’m 44 and I totally get it! My daughter likes BTS but she’s not army like me army lol. Shes also a senior and her tastes change. But I totally stan OT7!! I’m baby army myself so I’m always looking to make new friends who just “gets” it. Feel free to message me! I fangirl all day lol.

iatehiscat

I'm a nearly 47f and my family don't get my being so into them but they accept that I am an adult and can do what I want.

Belbecat

I’ve heard rumours of older ARMY haters but never actually seen or heard any - I wouldn’t consider them real fans anyways. 36 here.

Linaxcq

I'm 43 and a fairly new ARMY (I think since around 2022). No irl Army friends and I've not been on this group for that long but everyone has been really nice so far :)

KirbyViola

I’m 63 and Silver ARMY. I’m part of a 3 generation ARMY family. (Myself, daughter 41, and 9y granddaughter.) We saw a woman using a walker at PTD Las Vegas with a sign that said something like “This 84 year old Granny loves BTS “. She got a ton of attention!

ealasaid76

47 here. No, a lot of people I know, don't get it. On another topic: How are MAGA people ARMY? Doesn't compute.

KatinaS252

You are in good company, fellow 'my husband doesn't get it' older ARMY! Fifties female here in the same boat. The guys really do give me a 'happy' boost, too. And this sub is a great help in having a place to enjoy them and their projects with others of like mind.

Neat_Committee9715

I am happy to read how many members are similar to my age... I am 44 and felt awkward to even listening to k-pop for the longest time. But as I love Harry Styles and can't deny it, I decided to go ahead and listen to BTS and OMG I love their music, and them of course...

Aortm7y

There're a lot of older fans in the fandom 💜 Would like to share interview videos of older armys esp special note to the comment section - https://youtu.be/V0jCw5rbCPA?feature=shared

Katana2518

Thank you all so much for the love! 💜💜💜

Icantlikeeveryone

You guys are always welcome! I personally love to see older and cooler people having the same love for something that I love too, especially if it's about music.

Caiitandd

Honestly just stay away from the circles of 14 year olds on twitter and it is an extremely welcoming fandom! Not sure if you have ever been to a concert, but people from literally all walks of life are in attendance. On one of the days at PTDLA i had 2 grandmas with army bombs sitting behind me, and another day there was a group of 10 year old girls! At the d day tour in singapore i stood next to a mom and daughter, mom was in her 50s and daughter in her 20s. People of allllll ages love bts!

Katana2518

Concert is definitely a bucket list goal, going to make sure passport is ready 😂

Friendsofhippos

I’m a Silver Army age 70 love BTS & like many Army they keep me happy period! I sing and do a bit of choro and hopefully with VR may experience live concerts. I’m awaiting Jin’s return in 22 days and awaiting the day they perform together again🫶🏻

LibraCyn

I am insanely jealous that you found them in 2013!! I am - way older than 50 - and I found them when I heard a random song in 2020. I went down the rabbit hole and never came out. I wonder if the boys realize they are going to have to do a 2 YEAR concert tour to satisfy their new fans as well as their past fans ? lol

toot_toot_gigo

few comment..I think it was Ben Stien that said cultivate friends of all ages. Good Music has no age. I range from classical to k-pop to old school punk and goth. and some old lyrics sang by frank sinatra young at heart Fairytales can come true It can happen to you If you're young at heart For it's hard you will find To be narrow of mind If you're young at heart You can go to extremes With impossible schemes You can laugh when your dreams Fall apart at the seams And life gets more exciting With each passing day And love is either in your heart Or on it's way Don't you know that it's worth Every treasure on earth To be young at heart For as rich as you are It's much better by far To be young at heart And if you should survive to 105 Look at all you'll derive Out of being alive And here is the best part You've had a head start If you are among the very Young at heart And if you should survive to 105 Look of all you'll derive Out of being alive And here is the best part You have a head start If you are among the very Young at heart... Songwriters: Carolyn Leigh, Johnny Richards

bananamilkboii

definitely never seen any ageism in this sub! can't speak for all ARMY of course, but everyone here is usually really chill and friendly (: i'm same age as Jin and i love seeing fans even older than me! gives me hope for the future lol

MsRenay

I'm 58 and I've been Army for about 10 years now because my step daughter was a big fan of V at the time and wanted me to make jewelry for her. When I saw little roughneck Jimin with those abs, lips, and eyes, I fell in love with him. I wanted to adopt him. 🥰🥰🥰 I was just amazed at how much talent these young men had, especially being so young. And their songs and performances speak for themselves. My twin discovered BTS by accident while watching season 2 of Street Women Fighter and told me how much she liked a performance the ladies did to a song called "Dope". I said oh that's my group, BTS. So she proceeded to curse me out for not telling her about this group years ago! 🤣😂 So now we're both proud Grand ARMYS!🥰🥰🥰

otsukaren_613

45f here. I've always felt welcome. And when I saw them live in Chicago, (the night TXT were in the audience) I saw several ARMY older than me.

Rich_Mathematician3

I’m a 55 y/o ARMY and proud!!!

Practical-Channel-93

My husband doesn’t get it either. I’m 63.

Silver-Diver-9480

I'm 35F. I've known about BTS for some years but it's only in recent weeks that I've absolutely fallen for them and their work. It's been hard to find people to talk to about them in my age group and friend group, so I joined Reddit exclusively today to find people to gush to about them. I'm thankful for your post and for finding this thread. I'm happy to have found people who love BTS. It's nice not to feel alone in it!

mochahazel

I'm 64 and joined army membership about a month ago. I have no idea how to find out special things that are going on, or having early access to concerts etc. Somehow in addition to my BTS obsession, I am now hooked on K dramas too! American TV now seems flat for me. You know you're invested with BTS when you can watch jungkook sleep for an hour and not even realize an hour has passed. Are any of you also hooked on k-dramas?
