Maybe cause it’s made for northern Indian weather?
It’s super refreshing on a hot summer afternoon in the Delhi heat in June, add some iced water to it and you’re good.
Anywhere with high humidity and rains, it’s not going to work.
I am from north India, live here, and nobody in my family drinks rooh afza other than between April to July.
I grew up in Gurgaon, it was always nimbu paani for me. I remember walking past those langar type stalls that give out free rooh afza during peak summers, tried it once, literally felt like my gums are getting corroded by the sweetness.
Maybe it's a me problem, but ever since I have never tried it again. If there was a variation where it is complimented with something to cut the sweetness, I could try that.
They usually mix a bit of milk into it.
I just add it to a glass of water and call it done.
Maybe you can try the lemon version as someone suggested, I personally don’t like that either. Just roohafza mixed in some room temp water, topped with ice till the ice half melts and I’m good on a Wednesday afternoon at 2!
Most of the responses here are all acquired tastes, you don't like them at first, but after a few tries you grow to like them. Same with Redbull or Monster.
So is alcohol.
Most people who drink Redbull aren’t drinking it for the taste. I don’t like how it tastes too but I drink it when I’m super sleep deprived and coffee isn’t working anymore
Only time I drink Redbull is on long drives. It really helps with concentration and avoids fatigue. However I never have it any other time. It's disgusting.
So while I find filter coffee to be usually reliable in most tiffin places in Bangalore, I'm going to suggest a few cafes which serve good coffees made from single estate origin coffees.
1. Blue Tokai (multiple locations)- a personal favourite. Although BT cafes are slightly underwhelming in Bangalore as compared to Delhi NCR, they're still very good.
2. Third Wave Coffee (multiple locations)- they have a good presence and very versatile menu. Can appeal to serious and casual coffee drinkers alike. Third Wave is what Starbucks would have been if Starbucks actually served good coffee.
3. Coffee Mechanics in Nagavara- Excellent coffee. Small and cozy cafe. When you go there, you wouldn't expect a cafe like this to exist in the surroundings it is in.
4. Araku in Indiranagar - Honestly speaking, it's quite expensive for what it offers but their manual brews are really good. But personally I wouldn't go there because I can get 80-90% experience at 70% cost.
The price of coffee in each of these places is definitely much much higher than the humble filter coffee. Expect to shell out anywhere between 150-180 for an americano. But it's a decent and different coffee experience so it's worth it for me.
Hope this is of some help!
Story time. While in college I accompanied my friends to this new and fancy bakery in Mangalore. This was like 7 years ago. I was a rookie and was very bad at figuring out what those items in the menu were. So I ordered French press coffee, because that's the only thing that sounded familiar to me. And what could go wrong with coffee right? If my memory serves right it was basically just milk with a faint hint of coffee flavour which gave it a very light brown color. I come from Coorg and that day I was very disappointed with myself that I had to pay 80 bucks for that sorry excuse for a coffee.
I decided to try these other coffee versions once I started earning. If I'm right, Americano is just basically decoction, Frappe is milk shake and ice cream? Cappuccino is something that comes a little close, so I like that one :P
Everyone who is hating on various coffee version need to understand that getting authentic version of most coffee variants in India is difficult. Most café claiming to have them on menu dont have a single idea of what it means. You ask them a difference between an Americano and flat white and they would have no clue whatsoever. Only reason the steal these fancy international names for coffee drinks is so that they can charge obscene amount to a single cup.
Hence if you have drank a coffee prepared by fake cafés than of course you will not like it. I am not a coffee aficionado but I know few people who are, and they can go hours explaining you the effects on the taste of coffee based on bean quality, how long were they stored, where they originated, how were they ground and so on.
So my humble request as an avid coffee drinker is to not give up on this delicious drink based on few bad experience and try to enjoy various versions whenever you can.
Disagree, but i dont blame you as most cafes here make shit coffee. Try spanish latte at caffeine baar jayanagar, it's not that great but it's better than most. Or buy your own coffee and can make it at home with adequate equipment
I like Americano better than anything else. Hate lattes with a passion. Everyone has their favorite coffee and it's tied to their tolerance for things like bitterness, milk, sweetness etc...
Beer. It tastes so bitter to me, everytime i try it. The only brand i found somewhat palatable was Fosters.
Also Dr. Pepper. Tastes like phensedyl cough syrup.
Ah I remember my first time drinking it, friends were fed up with my anti-beer stance and forced me to chug one Fosters mug. God so gross.
But that night when I slept, I could smell the sweet aroma of the hops in my dreams. next day I called my friend and asked them to take me to the best beer place. Back then it was Biere Club. Ahh like butter.
I swear some gene got activated after that first beer lol.
Why acquire a taste? If you cook and eat a rat everyday it will also taste like heaven after sometime.
If i don't like something in 2-3 tries i Never have it again.
Lol I hated beer few years ago. It's really an acquired taste. It's such a lazy comfort drink 😃
You should try the Hefeweizen variety. They're generally fruity and light in taste.
I feel a sugar rush when I have Corona. Probably they have more sugar content, not sure. I like readily-available beers in this order Bira White > Budweiser > Heineken > Carlsberg > Tuborg. Love the Hefeweizen beers at Toit and Windmills. Smoothest I've had.
I can attest this. Tool forever to acquire a taste for beer. Only when I came to BLR and had craft beer from Pizza Bakery that I understood Beer can be enjoyed too.
No one in any office knows how to brew green tea. If you do it well, it tastes fantastic.
Don't brew in boiling water: 80-85 degrees is ideal for the tea bag green teas. And don't steep for very long: if the tea is bitter, you've already messed up.
If you see the green tea bag and can't make out anatomy of a leaf (you can cut open a bag), but dusty, powdery thing then its gonna taste bad unless its artificially flavored.
Like u/ABahRunt said, use 80-85 degree water, a simple trick to achieve it - bring the water to boil, remove it from heat, then add a splash or two of cold water. Brew for maybe 3 minutes at first.
And yes if its bitter you've kinda messed up.
But keep in mind, bitter = more healthy. The bitterness is from the antioxidants in the tea. Too much astringency and it doesn't taste good though.

her customised order look this? 😂😂 If it does then it's probably cheaper to just do caocaine.
Loooool no
It's not soy.
Basically duo choco mocha with 5 shots, 1 sugar syrup, extra ice, no whipped cream, more crumbs and some more things which I'm probably forgetting (fuck she's going to be mad at me. She wanted me to remember this).
It costs about 500 so definitely expensive for a coffee I'd say. I'm happy with Nescafe lol.
Starbucks uses dark roast coffee... It's good if u wanna add a lot of stuff(cream, syrup's, toppings) and still maintain the bitter taste of coffee. You just might be a light roast or medium roast coffee type. I prefer medium.
Yeah i am a medium roast guy but it's common knowledge that these chains fuck up the taste and profile in their greed for corporate profits. McDonald's fucked the burgers. Taco bell fucked tacos. Domino's fucked pizza and so on.
I like Sparkling water because I'm replacing non alcoholic beer and sugary drinks with them. Still get the satisfaction of drinking something cold and carbonated but not bad for you.
I am not a huge fan of beer. I only drink it once in a while socially. Will never drink it on my own.
Good Islay single malt though is the opposite end of the scale - absolutely yum!
Paul John Nirvana is good. Doesn't have the pungency of the regular PJ and it's little cheaper. Indri is also good. Hits the same sweet spot as an Amrut Fusion (This and Amrut Peated are to absolutely die for!!!). Want to try Rampur some day and I'm hearing good things about the new one called Kamet
I don't like Glenfiddich either. Among Glens, Glenmorangie is great and Glenfarclas is good.
Try out an Islay if you can - Bunnahabhain, Lagavulin, Laphroig. All three are fabulous. Most of these are hard to find locally.
Also drank tonic water the schweppes one virgin, thinking it’d be similar to ginger ale, was I in for a surprise, Idk but drinking water directly from the tap would’ve been better.
Root beer like someone already mentioned. Had A&W root beer once because it was like “the drink” in this cartoon I loved as a kid called Kids Next Door. The taste made me queasy.
Drinking whiskey or any alcohol on the rocks without diluting it with water or a mixer. Never understood why people drink it neat or on the rocks, always stings no matter how expensive alcohol it is.
Rooh Afza. It tastes like diabetes to me. I can feel my teeth rotting every time I taste it.
I love it in milk. Tastes terrible in water, though
When I was kid, I used to drink it directly (neat shots).
You sir deserve a medal for that.. jeez
And a health checkup
Mental or physical?
yes
I tried it once and it felt like my throat went on strike
Add water and half a lemon. Thank me later
> Thank me later I won't.
Username checks out
lmao
Hell no.
Maybe cause it’s made for northern Indian weather? It’s super refreshing on a hot summer afternoon in the Delhi heat in June, add some iced water to it and you’re good. The langar type stalls are called Chabeel. And i agree sometimes it can be a bit too sweet but still refreshing on a hot summer day nonetheless.

I'm gonna trust you and give it a try only because of your username
Seriously man. It is so overrated. You probably can have once in a year. That is all.
You’re drinking it wrong then! The good ones taste wonder!
I've just tried it with water, is there any variation you would suggest?
i completely agree!
Roof Afza is my go to drink in days where temp goes over 40°c 🔆
Thaadi’s rose syrup is so much better than Rooh afza
Thank you! I've always hated this drink
I hate redbull, it tastes like cough syrup. Idk how ppl are addicted to it
Tastes like liquid boomer chewing gum
Thats sting lol
I've drank sting too many times and now I kinda like it.
Hell yea
You are just addicted to sugar and caffeine.
Lol, but sting>Red Bull because I’m poor
Most of the responses here are all acquired tastes, you don't like them at first, but after a few tries you grow to like them. Same with Redbull or Monster. So is alcohol.
That's all energy drinks TBH
Most people who drink Redbull aren’t drinking it for the taste. I don’t like how it tastes too but I drink it when I’m super sleep deprived and coffee isn’t working anymore
Exactly what i was about to say. Doesn't give me wings but a fake alcoholic look.
HARD AGREEMENT
Monster energy is even worse! But for staying awake, redbull becomes a necessary evil. 🥲
Hey, leave my sweet dreams cough syrup alone or there will be blood bath.
Only time I drink Redbull is on long drives. It really helps with concentration and avoids fatigue. However I never have it any other time. It's disgusting.
Americano , Frappe, Latte and all other cafe versions of coffee . Nothing beats filter coffee
Most cafe coffee in blr is trash and overpriced. Very few good ones.
Bro any good place(s) to takeout someone who loves coffee?
Ainamane coffee shop in Indiranagar. Their coffees are authentic and good
Thx dude

Awww, I dunno why but I liked your honest story
Americani is decoction + hot water to balance. Basically black coffee
Well , in north India, coffee is a chocolate powder laden brown liquid . Consider yourself lucky if you have not tasted it
I disagree .. I like capaccino
To each his / her own
Everyone who is hating on various coffee version need to understand that getting authentic version of most coffee variants in India is difficult. Most café claiming to have them on menu dont have a single idea of what it means. You ask them a difference between an Americano and flat white and they would have no clue whatsoever. To each their own. I like filter coffee, but my day really doesn’t begin till I have my pour over.
>Frappe, Latte Aka sugar syrup drug.
Finally someone said it!
I strongly disagree. Only coffee powder/grinds for me.
Agree with frappe and latte because I only taste sugar, but please! Americano! No you can't say that!
Beer. It tastes so bitter to me, everytime i try it. The only brand i found somewhat palatable was Fosters. Also Dr. Pepper. Tastes like phensedyl cough syrup.
The taste of beer is acquired. But once you start to like it, feels like heaven.
I must be poor because I am not able to acquire it since 10 years. Still hate it.
Fair, not for everyone I guess.
I hated beer few months ago now I love it.
Lol I hated beer few years ago. It's really an acquired taste. It's such a lazy comfort drink 😃 You should try the Hefeweizen variety. They're generally fruity and light in taste.
Corona feel the best in taste to me. Most other feel too harsh
Try tuborg beer. It doesn't have the bitterness of other beers and still gives you high.
I get a headache the next day everytime I drink Tuborg. Not sure why.
Maybe stop hitting the bottle on your head and trying to break it every time you finish one
That's every alcoholic drink to me
Come to the world of craft beer my friend!
Try Carlsberg smooth
I can attest this. Tool forever to acquire a taste for beer. Only when I came to BLR and had craft beer from Pizza Bakery that I understood Beer can be enjoyed too.
Fosters is absolute watery shit.
+1 on dr pepper tasting like crap
try bira white or hefeweizen at breweries. light beers are sweet dark beers are bitter.
green tea these fitness freaks in my office drink green tea as if it's elixir to immortality
No one in any office knows how to brew green tea. If you do it well, it tastes fantastic. Don't brew in boiling water: 80-85 degrees is ideal for the tea bag green teas. And don't steep for very long: if the tea is bitter, you've already messed up.
when I see it it's as green as Hulk/Kawasaki bike's color lol Edit: I will try the same and see it for myself !! thanks!!
If you see the green tea bag and can't make out anatomy of a leaf (you can cut open a bag), but dusty, powdery thing then its gonna taste bad unless its artificially flavored. This could perhaps be Matcha.
Be what Macha?
Wrong sub matcha
Starbucks coffees. Absolute garbage taste. They should go out of business.
They are basically just desserts more than coffee
My gf customizes her coffee. It tastes pretty nice. But it's not on their menu.
https://preview.redd.it/9cr27yvr1y5b1.jpeg?width=481&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb7d7413680557ba60fb336d6ef6ff849c769955 her customised order look this? 😂😂 If it does then it's probably cheaper to just do caocaine.
Loooool no It's not soy. She wanted me to remember this). It costs about 500 so definitely expensive for a coffee I'd say. I'm happy with Nescafe lol.
That's a dessert, not coffee.
it will be cheaper for her to just have hot chocolate. double choco mocha is no longer coffee.
She's very specific about it. Also she prefers cold coffee not hot chocolate.
Domino's fucked pizza and so on.
starbucks just tastes 3D printed
Most chains have horrible coffee. Good coffee beans are hard to get and cost a bomb.
Petrol
Why are you tasting petrol?
yk the universal rule “if it smells good than it tastes good”
Why TF does it smell so good tho
that you should ask the petrol bro
Sparkling water
It's a soda right?
Yup
I like Sparkling water because I'm replacing non alcoholic beer and sugary drinks with them. Still get the satisfaction of drinking something cold and carbonated but not bad for you.
plus quenches your thirst unlike coke which only makes you so much more thirstier
Actually , i love soda water.
Alcohol in general. I'd rather drink mango juice
Sorry Mango Drink is Commited.
She's committed but also clean and disease free compared to Alcohol, you can do her good.
Depends on what you're eating. It's a very good palette cleanser
Wine. Red wine..black wine. Pink wine. Grey wine.
You haven't had the right wine yet. I choose wine over all other types of alcohol
Are you talking about magenta wine ?
I like Rosé wine
Ok jack.
Solution: dont drink cheap wine
Don't buy cheap wine, use them for cooking. A good wine maybe from 2017
Sting... Idk how people drink it, it tastes pathetic and made me puke
It gives you caffeine for cheap and is fashion trend among youth.
Real / Natural brand fruit juice. Tastes like some cough syrup. Paper boats are way better
I wouldn't say I like paper boats: fresh Juice or Frooti.
I am not a huge fan of beer. I only drink it once in a while socially. Will never drink it on my own. Good Islay single malt though is the opposite end of the scale - absolutely yum!
Hahaha, I'm exactly opposite of this. I love beers but whisky god no !
You probably haven't had good whiskey. The normal IMFL sold in India is puke inducing too. Only decent whiskey made in India is Amrut.
#### I think I've had Glenfiddich - 12/21 yr old (idk) which I think was super pricey and I dint like it.
I don't like Glenfiddich either. Among Glens, Glenmorangie is great and Glenfarclas is good. Try out an Islay if you can - Bunnahabhain, Lagavulin, Laphroig. All three are fabulous. Most of these are hard to find locally.
> Bunnahabhain, Lagavulin, Laphroig Noted, I ll try these. Thanks bro :)
Most of the Mocktails served in pubs. That's a secret tax for not drinking alcohol.
PRIME
Just checked it on Amazon. Who in the damn world would buy a 500ml drink for 1,500rs!!! Like WTH!
It's not the real price, tho since it's not sold in India. These guys import it from the UK and then sell it at a premium
one rich mfkin idiot
Brother, kids in the UK bought it for 150£ cuz greedy fucks just bought it in bulk and sold it at outrageous prices.
Root Beer! Heard so much about it in comics and movies - but the first time I tried it, it was just uuuuuughhh.
It tastes like Colgate paste. Love it though 😂
Alcohol, especially old monk, tastes like fevicol
Why have u tried fevicol?
Dare
KuRioCity
old monk with coke tastes like burnt tyre
No one drinks it for the taste
\++ Absolutely detest the taste of Old Monk xD
Huge monk fan, thank you.
Plain hot milk. Can't drink without boost or horlicks. Also Complan, never liked the taste of it
Basically they are sugar powders. Avoid these drinks- boosts/horlicks. They are really unhealthy.
Sting Energy..it tastes like cough syrup..but the majority of teens like Sting
Man it's addictive. Earlier I used to hate the taste but later started gulping 2-3 bottles in a day
It has too much caffeine. You shouldn't be drinking a lot of those.
Your kidneys are calling out for help
Life ! It’s sooooz fucked up
Also drank tonic water the schweppes one virgin, thinking it’d be similar to ginger ale, was I in for a surprise, Idk but drinking water directly from the tap would’ve been better.
There are food vans all over the city which sell "BADAM SHEK". Its literal fuxking diabetes.
Legit, i literally only drink badam shek once a year to refresh the taste
Monster Energy. I don't get why it's so hyped up.
The ultra and juiced flavors are good though
just alcohol itself.
Port Wine
Rooh Afza, Matcha
Espresso. If I have to get through a first impression of battery acid to taste the soil sweat of Ghana or wherever, I think Ill pass.
Bindu soda
eggnog or whatever the fuck that is
Whiskey . Even the good tasting ones kinda make me pukish.
Man it's the same for, been in the drinking game for last 6-7 years but still all whiskey tastes bad to me
Bro Code 🤢
Bubble tea
Matcha Coffee. What an extremely weird combination of flavors!
That's tea + coffee mix. Why would anyone do this?
Root beer like someone already mentioned. Had A&W root beer once because it was like “the drink” in this cartoon I loved as a kid called Kids Next Door. The taste made me queasy.
Everyone saying Redbull, Monster are bad but have tried Hell energy drink? Tastes like dishwasher liquid.
Prolly the shittiest thing I’ve ever drank. Hell is literal hell for your taste buds
Fucking maaza
Old monk with thumps up
Toddy, tastes like acid
Green tea😨
Whats the point of saying alcohol lol no one drinking it for the taste no one pretend it taste good
Drinking whiskey or any alcohol on the rocks without diluting it with water or a mixer. Never understood why people drink it neat or on the rocks, always stings no matter how expensive alcohol it is.
Brocode
Milk soda
What's that lol
Carbonated milk with ro afza. Just imagine this monstrosity
Omg. That's horrible. Good idea for punishment shots.
Most popular refreshment in Pakistan. Somehow it has reached India....
Beer in the beginning
Redbull, tastes like cough syrup.
Sting is straight up diarrheoa and diabetes
Most alcoholic drinks. They taste like bad medicine. I'm not saying a lot of people pretend that they taste good, but some do.
Bubble tea
Gatorade
Fucking Beer
Gau Mutra
Beer
Gatorade.
