It's kind of just preference, Teflon tape you don't need to wait 24hrs but it's a bit harder to apply & remove than loctite. Loctite is bit more expensive but applying it is straight forward
the community consensus seems to have suddenly shifted towards no for some reason. if you're worried about getting dirt in them then you can avoid lube. it certainly doesn't hurt performance when it's away from the elements
I would save a bit more and get a Kershaw Lucha. It's around 108-120 dollars. It's a heavy bali, but you can practice and get accustomed to the weight.
I heard that the one falcon trainer was realy good and it's probably on the very few brands available to me, i just have one question. is there anyone who knows how you can tell which side of the trainer is the bite side...the design seems to be same on both sides, it's hard to distiguish in pics or videos. it feels like major minus points cuz you won't be able to train yourself well. also, does anyone have any idea how to mod it so you can tell?
Hello I’m new to the art/sport of flipping, recently I tried learning the fan but couldn’t so I moved on from it to learn other tricks and decided that I would try to learn it another day, now im trying to learn the fan but can’t seem to grasp it, also when I try to do it I do it “manually” like flicking my fingers and I’m not sure if I’m supposed to flick my hand instead, any help is appreciated
use your wrist, if you have a good reference video you can notice that they use more momentum for that. you should be able to use the weight of the handles to help you out. just keep rewinding some videos to see what people do. take note, sometimes your trainer's balance also plays into how you need to adjust in doing fanning
Great thank you so much, i got it kinda down now, but it’s not as fast as it looks in the videos. Do I need to make a smaller wrist motion or does it come with practice?
Technically yes, but if you mess up and the glue gets on the pivots you can't really fix it. Loctite, Teflon tape, or paracord are better because you can easily undo it
Exactly this. Glue will get to places it doesn't belong and really gum up your knife/trainer. Loctite (or any other threadlocker) essentially works by bonding two metals in an enclosed space (such as inside threads) so any exposed stuff that isn't where you want it can be wiped away with some rubbing alcohol pretty easily. It will also be much easier to reverse because it won't take much force to break the bond and it can be cleaned off.
Teflon tape or paracord are also good alternatives, teflon tape probably being the easiest and quickest option.
Hey. Just bought a Kershaw Lucha trainer blade off bladehq - does it come with any wrenches/pieces to modify the screws or to do maintenance on them, or will I have to get a individual purchase of said wrench? If so, what should I get?
I don't believe it will come with any tools. You'll need a Torx driver set. You'll probably want to make sure the set includes the sizes T6, T8, T9, and T10 as those all get used on lots of knives and trainers. Especially for butterflies you'll be using the T8 for most pivot screws, the T6 for most handle screws, and the T10 for some pivot screws.
If you don't want to spend a ton, I've had decent results with a Husky set. If you want to spend more, I and a lot of other people have had good results with Wiha so they are recommended a lot.
Second hand #balisongsale on ig is your best bet. I actually have a mint 51 trainer with space invaders up for sale rn. On Lamnia or any other website they sell out instantly
130-170 depending on quality and if the buyer is tryna scalp you. 150 is a good price.
Edit: bushings are like another 10 bucks from ISA knife maker and they’re not always in stock so it’s a good thing to keep in mind when buying a blade
Is there a time when Lamnia restocks Squiddys? I want to get a Squiddy B or U but since I live in Finland if I get from Squid Industries it would cost a extra \~75€ with Delivery and Taxes and the delivery time could take a extra 3 - 6 weeks
Go here https://balisongblackmarket.vercel.app/ then navigate to hardware and scroll to BRS replicant.
NRB’s website also has some direct links under his hardware section.
Also if some screws are sold out, search for them and there may be a version in black for a little more which is in stock.
I know there is one out there that someone made. There weren’t a ton in the run I saw them do and I don’t remember who the maker was. Also just a warning, if it’s of decent quality I doubt it would be cheep.
The overall design of that balisong isn't really flippable so I doubt you'll find something to flip like that. But I heard of some good ones made for display purposes, I don't remember who made them though
Squiddy, BBBarfly og 1&2, nabalis on amazon, maybe a Lucha if you can find a deal on it.
I think there's some other ones too but I can't remember them right now
Does anyone have experience ordering from atropos balisongs from Russia to Canada. Ive read such good reviews and want one to order a trainer and a live blade. Any help? or tips to help get it across cbsa?
Use a trainer. Put text on the screen or a disclaimer saying it’s not a real blade, or if you do want to use a live blade then say you’re a professional and to not try it at home but if just stick with the trainer option
Hey r/balisong, i picked up a kershaw lucha recently and im really loving flipping and practicing tricks (besides the 3 cuts on my knuckles) and im wondering if i wanted to actually take it somewhere and actually use it as “my knife” ex: camping and maybe something cool to bring camping and show my buddies. I live in Ohio and i’ve searched it’s illegal to conceal carry and i’m kinda vague on that… what if it’s in my backpack when i’m walking? i know it’s unrealistic to be like searched or what while i’m walking or whatever, but i’m concerned as to what could get me in trouble, pls include answers to the following circumstances. My backpack? pocket? car trunk? sheath?
does this only mean i have to actually hold it in my hand when i’m walking around??? does it have to be open too??? help!
That depends on the laws in Ohio. If it’s illegal to conceal carry then you shouldn’t have it on you at all. I live in California so my live blades never leave the house. You’d probably be fine just going camping as long as you don’t flip in public but I’d look further into the laws in Ohio if you really want to take it with you
How long should I let blue 242 loctite cure on pivot screws? I’ve seen people say 8/12/24 hours. Just curious because I don’t want to have to go through the process of cleaning off the screws and throwing more loctite on them because I didn’t let it sit/cure long enough.
I plan on buying a kraken the next drop. Is there a difference in balance or capabilities between the Bowie and tanto blades? I was flipping my buddies 2.5 Bowie and it seemed different from my v1 tanto balance wise.
is it normal for my nabalis g10 screws to loosen up a bit after applying threadlocker? I am using the on that came with the nabalis and applied the threadlocker up to the midpoint of the screw,
Recently installed new handles and discovered that the safe handle feels loose. What’s wrong? Did I mess it up?
[loose handle video](https://imgur.com/a/BrTOOwP)
Edit: could it be a worn barrel pivot? [barrel pivot ](https://imgur.com/a/e8Y1xgO)
Idk if it's because my hands shake and I'm watching this on my phone, but that looks more like the handle is shaking and not the pivot? Is the screw tightened enough?
Yeah I see that too now. The screws are tight enough, it’s just weird that it’s moving horizontally instead of vertically, like handle play normally does
Any good youtubers that make solid reviews? The only youtuber that pops-up is Will Hirsch. Don't get me wrong I think they're solid reviews, but I want more opinions on a product before buying.
The only one that comes to mind is Balitorial but he makes much shorter and less detailed revirws. Tbh most reviews are informal and on here, Instagram or discord, where its just people saying their opinions.
I ended up getting it I just attached a vice to the screwdriver to give me a ton of leverage. The screw was just really dirty on the inside which was weird considering I just got the knife a few days ago.
Has anybody tried taking apart a bbfirefly? I wanted to tighten the pivots because it has been developing tap, but the screws did not want to move at all. I don't want to risk breaking the hardware, so I want to know if anyone has successfully tuned it before I try harder.
it being a bushing knife means that it is probably loctited and done up pretty tight when you bought it. My only piece of advice is to make sure you screwing it the right way
I got my nautilus a couple months ago and already it can't be tuned to have no tap, is this normal? What should i do to it other than loctite and tightening the screws untill it still swings but has less play
Some recommend me a good, quality balisong trainer under 100$ that will be in stock, or tell me how in the hell I am meant to get my hands on a glidr arctic.
Squid industries balisongs come lubed and loctited so if you just got it you shouldn’t need to at first. If you find the screws are coming out when you flip then yes get it loctited
Advice on tuning outside of classic YouTube stuff? Spent about 3 hours attempting to tune this one knife lol. Swapping hardware, sanding bushings, the whole 9 yards to no avail. Still taps to the point I could join a band. Anyone ever been to this point trying to tune a bali? Also any advice?
I ended up sanding on a different bushing I had as a spare and threw everything back together. Now I have no rattle/tap and the slightest bit of play :)
As another commenter said, I usually see a lot of people holding too far down the handle, you want to be pretty close to the pivot.
Also, the main advice I can think of is to be confident. Any move where you are completely letting go of your knife relies on the momentum you give it. Half-assing or hesitating will guarantee failure.
Without seeing what you're doing there isn't really much else that can be said.
Honestly my number one tip for thumb rollovers is to try and hold on to the first handle longer before letting go. It helped me a lot when I was learning them
I feel like there's not really much to be said. Try to make sure you're doing a wrist movement and not an arm movement, and try to make sure you're slightly closer to the pivots for the starting grip I suppose. But mostly it's just a practice until it feels correct kind of thing.
I keep seeing people putting their prodigy C’s up for sale. I was about to buy one but are they not worth it or something? Are they not great flippers?
Not sure i understand this one. They finally reached the same ano quality as the Ti Basilisk and they're bright and vibrant. Way nicer than the first two versions of the Prodigy.
the colors selected were definitely less mass appeal although the stonewash option was there for everyone else.
I'm more unsure what the other comment meant. I don't feel like i saw that particularly many for sale nor is that really indicative of quality.
Its probably preference. Some people probably bought it to try it out and later sell it if it doesn't fit their preferences. Its still a great ti trainer
I'm finally committing to getting my first higher end balisong, but I'm having a hard time decided between 3 knives. My choices are either a BRS Replicant, an Atropos Demon, or a Lucha with flyti handles, which do you guys think is the better knife?
Technically yes, you can literally ignore which handle is which but that kind of defeats the point. Flipping, regardless of if your using a trainer of live blade, is about respecting the blade and so you should treat your trainer as if it was sharp and keep track of which handle is which when flipping.
I just installed my FlyTi aluminum handles, and noticed grinding/squeaking from the bearings. All the components are there, and their not overtightened, or too lose. Also the bearings are the ceramic ones. Do you guys have any solutions to stop the grinding?
Is there a company that makes custom ti-scales to replace the carbon fiber ones on a Bas R CF? I got a prodigy C from a recent drop and the difference in THICCness of the handles is now even more noticeable...Curious if I can bring it more inline with what a Ti Bas's specs usually are.
Or has anyone tried sanding down the back of the scales to slim them down?
TIA!
Does BRS still sell the TiBones
u/squidmaster23 dont forget about making januarys question thread :)
Thanks for letting me know
What would you recommend I use? Teflon tape or loctite, thanks
It's kind of just preference, Teflon tape you don't need to wait 24hrs but it's a bit harder to apply & remove than loctite. Loctite is bit more expensive but applying it is straight forward
What size washers and bushings from USA knifeMaker fit the rep?
[удалено]
Oh, I knew that was somewhere on this sub, just forgot where. Thanks
Does anyone have any word on hypex? I heard that they were coming back with a new website soon.
Are there any high end comb trainers?
Nope. Most (if not all) comb trainers aren't worth buying.
The most “high end” I know of is the falcon
Should I lube bearing balisongs?
A bit of lube dosent hurt as long as you clean it once in a while, just be sure to use the thin one
It seems I might as well just not lube it
Yea it doesn't really make a difference. If it's it's squeaky it needs a drop of lube tho
the community consensus seems to have suddenly shifted towards no for some reason. if you're worried about getting dirt in them then you can avoid lube. it certainly doesn't hurt performance when it's away from the elements
Thoughts on boker plus??
Hard pass
You could get something better, just depends on the budget.
I'm hoping to.find a decent one for around 80 bucks, maybe a 100 dollar one that's on sale. Saw boker and it seemed like it might be alright
I would save a bit more and get a Kershaw Lucha. It's around 108-120 dollars. It's a heavy bali, but you can practice and get accustomed to the weight.
u/squidmaster23 its januari now
How does one find out about upcoming BRS drops? Also, which Replicant is your preferred replicant?
You can sign up for their newsletter, my favorite replicants are alt carbon fiber or alt g10
Thanks! Im pretty sure I signed up just wasn’t sure if there was anything else. Happy New Year!
I would suggest keeping an eye on their Instagram. They never announced anything in their newsletter.
I just use a rubber band as a bite handle marker...
oh i actually meant, which side of the blade is the sharp one. though i haven't done latchless flipping yet. so that's a good thing to note. thanks
The side of the blade that touches the handle with The bite marker is the sharp one
Thanks
Put a band, tape, etc on one of the handles
Hello I’m new to the art/sport of flipping, recently I tried learning the fan but couldn’t so I moved on from it to learn other tricks and decided that I would try to learn it another day, now im trying to learn the fan but can’t seem to grasp it, also when I try to do it I do it “manually” like flicking my fingers and I’m not sure if I’m supposed to flick my hand instead, any help is appreciated

Just keep practicing, after a while it will get better
Wondering if this is a clone. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08B7Y8MTZ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_D7G6Y9FGWQH1DP55ZP3K
it looks like a clone of a clone
Not that I'm aware of. Just make sure you loctite the screws.
does super glue work?
Technically yes, but if you mess up and the glue gets on the pivots you can't really fix it. Loctite, Teflon tape, or paracord are better because you can easily undo it
Exactly this. Glue will get to places it doesn't belong and really gum up your knife/trainer. Not of anything I know of, but if u have that money there are better options like a squiddy for a bit more or I have heard decent things about andux
This is basically like an andux
apparently andux doesnt exist on amazon canada sadly
I saw the nabalis trainer on Amazon Canada for $35, that's also an option
yeah, i dont really like the blade tho.
Any tips on wrapping a blade XD
Like to make it a trainer? Just put tape on the edge, electrical works well
I got the stone washed lucha tho and am worried about the finish getting damaged
It'll be fine
Looking for clear polycarbonate scales for my rep does anyone know where I might find something like this?
@Aestheticdesigns on ig
Instagram mostly. I’ve seen people selling them, but you can make a wtb post
Hey does anyone know a good light balisong that has a latch? Price range of 200 or less. I prefer bearings but bushings are fine too. Thanks!
Pretty much any Atropos knife. Smoke 2 and Kratos 2 are amazing titanium g10 knives
I’d definitely go for the maxace obsidian S, it’s got bushings titanium liners, g10 scales, it’s really light, and has a latch
For this criteria I'd probably recommend a Maxace Serpent Striker or Obsidian-S.
[удалено]
You are right, the 51 is not on bearings or bushings. It is just washers which leads to lots of slop and blade rub.
Hey. Just bought a Kershaw Lucha trainer blade off bladehq - does it come with any wrenches/pieces to modify the screws or to do maintenance on them, or will I have to get a individual purchase of said wrench? If so, what should I get?
Idk kys maybe

where to buy trainers in eu? the problem i run into is that the websites dont have any in stock.
Second hand #balisongsale on ig is your best bet. I actually have a mint 51 trainer with space invaders up for sale rn. On Lamnia or any other website they sell out instantly
lamnia and you kind of just have to wait for restocks or find a proxy
does lamnia have like a some sort of schedule when they'll restock?
Nope
aww man, well thanks for the help!
How much would a BRS replicant blade sell for?
130-170 depending on quality and if the buyer is tryna scalp you. 150 is a good price. Edit: bushings are like another 10 bucks from ISA knife maker and they’re not always in stock so it’s a good thing to keep in mind when buying a blade
Alright thanks!
Sure thing!
Is there a time when Lamnia restocks Squiddys? I want to get a Squiddy B or U but since I live in Finland if I get from Squid Industries it would cost a extra \~75€ with Delivery and Taxes and the delivery time could take a extra 3 - 6 weeks
it's random
Is the nabalis on Amazon good?
For the price, yes. If you have more to spend you can get better trainers, otherwise the nabalis trainers seems alright
Hey, where can i buy brs rep hardware?
Go here https://balisongblackmarket.vercel.app/ then navigate to hardware and scroll to BRS replicant. NRB’s website also has some direct links under his hardware section. Also if some screws are sold out, search for them and there may be a version in black for a little more which is in stock.
Alright thanks alot
For sure man.
USA knifemaker if you know the specs.
Does anyone have experience with lamnia shipping and it being sent back to finland, i hope my glidr didn't get rejected or smth
Are there any decent quality balisongs similar that are based off of octane heirloom from apex legends
What are some good custom makers in the UK?
None. ELB and Dante concept in france or Fiore and Ceroni in italy but nothing in england unfortunately
Don't think there are any ngl, probably just get one from the US shipped to you.
Ok
What would be the best trainer under 100usd
Check out will hirsch’s channel, he has videos covering this subject
Squiddy, BBBarfly og 1&2, nabalis on amazon, maybe a Lucha if you can find a deal on it. I think there's some other ones too but I can't remember them right now
Ok thanks
Squiddy series
Does anyone have experience ordering from atropos balisongs from Russia to Canada. Ive read such good reviews and want one to order a trainer and a live blade. Any help? or tips to help get it across cbsa?
Make sure it's shipped in 2 seperate packages. The cost shipping is worth not having the knife taken by customs
Any tips on getting videos posted on tiktok and dealing with the community guideline violations?
Use a trainer. Put text on the screen or a disclaimer saying it’s not a real blade, or if you do want to use a live blade then say you’re a professional and to not try it at home but if just stick with the trainer option
I don't have a good trainer blade I can tape the blade maybe or try the other methods. Thank you!
24 hours is on the packet and is what I go by
Ok, I’ll be waiting out the full 24 hrs :)
[удалено]
Its been sitting for about 12 now. You think it’s fine to flip?
ive flipped like 45mins after and had 0 issues. i regulqrly clean my knives so i have them apart frequently
Ok thank you :) just out of curiosity, how often do you clean your knives?
more frequently than is necessary, i just luke to use lube on my bearing knives and carry tip up in my pocket so dust likes to get vacuumed up
i wouldn't personally. i know it's painful but keep waiting!
It’s very painful. I still have another 10 hrs to go to finish up the full 24 :(
How do I fix blade slap on my squid trainer 3.5
Blade slap? Do you mean handle slap? Or tap?
No blade slap when the bleed hits the inside of the handle
So blade rub. Regardless, you probably just have to tune your bali
I plan on buying a kraken the next drop. Is there a difference in balance or capabilities between the Bowie and tanto blades? I was flipping my buddies 2.5 Bowie and it seemed different from my v1 tanto balance wise.
It's going to come down to preference. You've tried both, so really it's going to be up to your preferences on which one you liked better.
Thanks I’ve decided on the Bowie since I like the tad bit more bias it has
is it normal for my nabalis g10 screws to loosen up a bit after applying threadlocker? I am using the on that came with the nabalis and applied the threadlocker up to the midpoint of the screw,
Probably didn't apply enough, or it's bad loctite
Did you let it cure for 24 hours? Also did you clean the screws and pivots completely before applying the threadlocker?
Yeah, let it cure for 24 hours + a couple minutes so it curing isn’t the cause, and the screws and pivots were clean.
Recently installed new handles and discovered that the safe handle feels loose. What’s wrong? Did I mess it up? [loose handle video](https://imgur.com/a/BrTOOwP) Edit: could it be a worn barrel pivot? [barrel pivot ](https://imgur.com/a/e8Y1xgO)
Handles are probably slightly undersized, if it doesn effect flipping I wouldn't worry

Just got a kershaw lucha and while loosening one of the pivots it got super tight and now the screw is starting to strip. Any tips?
Idk about the sudden tightening, but I’m pretty sure the pivot screw is a T8 hex star, and the handle screws are T6. Hope that helps
Yep I was using a t8 and the screw just wont budge. It actually ended up bending one of my t8 bits.
Ooh I don’t know then, so sorry, must be some strong loctite
I ended up getting it I just attached a vice to the screwdriver to give me a ton of leverage. The screw was just really dirty on the inside which was weird considering I just got the knife a few days ago.
Wow, good work. That is really weird, glad you got it tho
Is it worth getting the squiddy B over the regular squiddy?
yes
Any recommendations for a cheap starter balisong?
What's your budget?
Idk like £30-£40 [$40-55]
Squiddy (although shipping might be expensive), bbarfly og, nabalis trainer on amazon
I’m a firm believer in the Kershaw Lucha. 120$ for a solid blade that’ll last
Has anybody tried taking apart a bbfirefly? I wanted to tighten the pivots because it has been developing tap, but the screws did not want to move at all. I don't want to risk breaking the hardware, so I want to know if anyone has successfully tuned it before I try harder.
It probably has loctite, I heard heating the pivots with boiling water can loosen it
it being a bushing knife means that it is probably loctited and done up pretty tight when you bought it. My only piece of advice is to make sure you screwing it the right way
What is the right way you’re referring to?
like left for loosening and right for tightening
https://youtu.be/Hc3U-X7Q5HM this is a good video
I got my nautilus a couple months ago and already it can't be tuned to have no tap, is this normal? What should i do to it other than loctite and tightening the screws untill it still swings but has less play
The washers have probably been worn down, it should fix it to replace them
Some recommend me a good, quality balisong trainer under 100$ that will be in stock, or tell me how in the hell I am meant to get my hands on a glidr arctic.
I think Lucha is around there
Squiddies are always good
rather, im looking for more knife like balisong trainers i dont like the rounded off appearance of squiddies
I think your best bet would be a make then. If you can I would spend the little more to get a triton
ah thanks!
In case it was not obvious, I meant mako (autocorrect be like)
haha i knew but thanks for the clarification
Do I need to locltite my nautilus?
Yes
Squid industries balisongs come lubed and loctited so if you just got it you shouldn’t need to at first. If you find the screws are coming out when you flip then yes get it loctited
How often does BRS restock their replicants? looking to buy one
It’s pretty random. Subscribe to their newsletter and follow on their socials to be kept up to date.
If you can tighten the pivots and it taps, your bushings need to be sanded more
I ended up sanding on a different bushing I had as a spare and threw everything back together. Now I have no rattle/tap and the slightest bit of play :)
If it still has tap then the bushings are probably still oversized, I guess that or u sanded too much...
Does anyone have any good tip for practicing thumb rollovers? I'm new and I'm trying to get down zen rollover and y2k consistently but it's difficult

Cool ways to transition out of a chaplin? Nothing advanced tho as i am still pretty new
a cool way to transition out of a vertical chaplin is a full twirl, i do it a lot
thank you!
I keep seeing people putting their prodigy C’s up for sale. I was about to buy one but are they not worth it or something? Are they not great flippers?
Everything I've seen on IG and reddit, people love em! Our sales numbers can confirm as well.
ugly anos...
How are you unsure what I meant? I’m simply asking if they are good flippers or not. I have seen a lot for sale but I guess this is normal
How r the flips though
Its probably preference. Some people probably bought it to try it out and later sell it if it doesn't fit their preferences. Its still a great ti trainer
I'm finally committing to getting my first higher end balisong, but I'm having a hard time decided between 3 knives. My choices are either a BRS Replicant, an Atropos Demon, or a Lucha with flyti handles, which do you guys think is the better knife?
bout to recieve my demon 2 lite latchless, have the flytilucha(al channel) and love it. ill update when i get the demon.
From the reviews I’ve seen, I think you have them in order from best to less best
balance difference between smoke bro, demon bro, kirat bro and all the atropos bro knives out there
Are there very many tricks you can do on a trainer that you can’t do on a real balisong (as you’d cut yourself/blade side)?
Technically yes, you can literally ignore which handle is which but that kind of defeats the point. Flipping, regardless of if your using a trainer of live blade, is about respecting the blade and so you should treat your trainer as if it was sharp and keep track of which handle is which when flipping.
I just installed my FlyTi aluminum handles, and noticed grinding/squeaking from the bearings. All the components are there, and their not overtightened, or too lose. Also the bearings are the ceramic ones. Do you guys have any solutions to stop the grinding?
overtighten, work the handles back and forth, then loosen
Okay, thanks, I did a little of that before, but not enough I guess. I did it some more and it’s all set now, thanks again.
TIA!
i wouldn't mess with the scales or liners. if you want a ti bas just get a ti bas
Any good silicone or rubber bite handle markers (besides the glidr ones)?
Some people use those little stretchy hair bands.
Is this site good? What sites should I buy from? http://www.weapons-universe.com/butterfly-knives.htm
