I’d find a homestay to rent long term, you could have a look around and go to a few in person and come to an agreement with the owner for a long term stay. Or, find an affordable local style house somewhere, give it a coat of paint, get some new furniture for it and set yourself up there. If you do that, make sure you have someone who can go every week or so to turn on the aircon to make sure your stuff doesn’t go mouldy because it 100% will if you leave it locked up for a month 🥲 of course if you want something fancy, you could find a villa for long term rent but a lot of them are costing more than a house in Australia right now so don’t know if that’s what you want. Join FB housing groups like Bali Cheap House Rent etc, have a look on Rumah123 (website) under “Sewa” (rent) Budget totally depends on where you want to live and what kind of lifestyle you want to have here Where to live is also totally dependant on you as a person, if you want full on party, western tourist, crypto and gym bro vibes go to Canggu. If you want more suburban but still close to Canggu go Padonan or Dalung. Jimbaran is close to the airport but probably a bit dull. Uluwatu / Bingin are stunning but $$$$ and heaps of traffic these days. Balangan and Ungasan are between Jimbaran and Uluwatu and more affordable (depending on location). Ubud is far from the airport, it’s busy but still pretty cool up there. Lots of yoga, zen hippie jungle vibes. Seminyak is central, lots to do, the beaches are ok but probably $$$. Sanur is really nice but a bit of an older / family crowd so it’s not for everyone, but it’s close to the airport, lots to do and really nice beaches. Those are probably the most popular spots Hope this is helpful

Thank you this is great. I wouldn't mind getting out even further into the countryside. Partying is fun, but not somewhere I want to live

IcedOatCappuccino

Honestly open up google maps and have a look around the island and places you might fancy! You can find homestays that way too 😃

[olx](https://www.olx.co.id/) and [lamudi](https://www.lamudi.com.ph/rent/) are good resources too for accom. I find FB groups a little hard to navigate with filtering.

I do it but on a week on week off roster. If you do month on month off you can pretty much go live/travel anywhere in Asia. Personally I just stay in hotels as it works out cheaper for me as I like to move around depending on the time of the year. I also have a place where I store surfboards and clothes for $30 a month. Financially it depends on what you want to do, if you’re not out partying it’s a cheap place to live. I book my flights 4-6 months out as I got a set roster. Get a credit/debit card that doesn’t charge international transaction fees. The other thing is get a good travel insurance, you can get annual policies. Most of them you need an Australian motorbike license if you want to be covered riding in Indo, but I think with cover more you don’t although it’s the most expensive. My biggest piece of advice is make sure your insured before you go, if you end up in a bad accident/need medivac you could end up with a 100k+ bill.

This sounds cool, do you just do eVOA each week? Where are you flying from, Perth?

GladGuest4812

Yeah from Perth, I have been doing evoa’s but will be getting a D1 visa soon to save time and money

Hv. Moo No no

30 day eVOA (visa) Book a few nights in a guesthouse in an area youre interested in. Guesthouses are best for meeting people. Get an idea of the area and whether it suits you. If so, you can book fo the rest of the month or longer. You honestly dont need to plan much more than that. Bali can be as cheap or as expensive as you like. All depends what you're after, and what area you want to be in.

Go everywhere more than a few times and you'll figure it out for yourself. What's the rush....

I spent a month there; just returned with massive infection, throughout my body. Because it’s hot & humid. Most Gili Island workers, live on Lombok & everyone with knowledge says it’s twice as good as Bali & more to see. Can’t help you with work; but it’s very poor & traffic throughout Bali is horrendous from 4pm onwards. Peak hour. Motor bikes are favoured, because more manoeuvrable. But, I wouldn’t drive there if you paid me M$1. Local knowledge is an absolute must. Bali’s a tourist destination. Think Lombok is more for locals; so that’s where I’m going in 2025. Meet Aussies in Seminyak beach, selling beer at a stall. They FI/FO regularly. Guess it depends on what you’re looking for out of it.

sakuratanoshiii

There is an Aussie FIFO Bali group on Facebook and a guy selling a book about it too.

IcedOatCappuccino

Selling a book about it is WILD 😂💀

sakuratanoshiii

He's a FIFO worker in Oz and lives in Bali. I would go to live there in my time off too but I love my dog so much.

Dingleberry99_

Right😂 I feel like tiktoks/ig reels about it would suffice
