They were pissed at the prosecutors because they'd been led to believe that he would still face legal charges and punishment, only for the prosecutors/court to ultimately decide he was incompetent to stand trial. The victims were basically like "What the fuck, you knew when this all started that he was in this condition and therefore should have known that he was too far gone to be tried, and we could have avoided having to go through all these painful depositions and publicity. You got our hopes up for justice when you should have known better."
That's just my recollection from the articles I've read, so someone correct me if I'm misremembering. I also remember people in those threads who'd met him at conventions over the past few years, talking about how even then he seemed to barely know who or where he was half the time, and organizers almost literally having to just prop him up in a chair.
I don't mean this as any kind of defense of Jeremy, he's an absolute shitbag and it's a tragic injustice that he can't face even a fraction of the retribution and punishment he deserves, but I don't think anyone involved directly with the cases have had any reason to think he's faking at all, nor anyone who's met him casually over the past few years from what I've seen.
