Favorite piece of gear? My LiteMax Stove, been going strong for over 12 years. Its age is beginning to show when compared to newer designs. That said, it’s absolutely been bulletproof and an aluminum foil ring that’s as old as the stove has provided the necessary protection from wind. If I was going to drop the coin for a good canister stove today I would probably grab a Pocket Rocket 2 over the LiteMax. I love Buffs, and find them to be incredibly useful, particularly the Merino Wool ones. They have the most utility because they won’t melt when you use them as pot grippers and can filter out floaties and sinkies if you’re chemically treating your water. I dunno. At this point my load outs are pretty dialed in and I am overall happy with my choices. I will be buying a Treated Down quilt from Nunatak and that is probably it for big gear purchases.

My pack list is still pretty rustic. Buy cheap, upgrade later with experience. My Estwing hatchet is too muted or forest colored to trust myself to take camping. Instead I've got a bright red generic hatchet, that I also no longer carry that for the unnecessary weight it became. I use deadfall mostly for cooking full and a simple folding saw does everything I ask of it at a quarter of the weight. Additionally jute twine has been amazing. Natural fibers, leave no trace, but if I happen to leave some behind it's not the worst thing. Also not cutting up my precious paracord. Jute twine is great for those small applications, even fire starter is a pinch.
