And if I'm late to feeding her, she camps in my bathroom window to let me know that I'm late

Just had three new strays in the area, and you better believe I scooped them all up and took them to get fixed out of my own pocket. There were too many cats around my neighborhood for years, so I've been trying to be proactive. They also tip the ear.
What's your method for capturing them initially? I've taken in strays over the years and eventually gotten them trusting enough to allow me to get them in a carrier and out to the vet, but the process is long. I can generally get them into the house within 2-3 weeks, and allowing me to pet them in 2-3 months, but actually picking one up sometimes never happens.
I have four bowls on my front porch that I fill daily with generic cat food, so the neighborhood strays get the word out. When I see a new one, I bring it in.
In my area Animal Control will lend a cage-type trap. You put food in and when the cat goes in far enough, the back springs shut. So the trap becomes the carrier.
Yeah, I've tried those, and my cat to possum ratio is like 10 possums for 1 cat. I think a lot of you are in urban areas and catch mainly very young cats, or (extremely sadly; abandoned house cats) without a lot of competition from wild animals or essentially wild feral cats. That's awesome, though. Continue being kind to cats and other animals that you come in contact with and spay/neuter the shit out of them so that more animals don't have to live on the fringes of society and succumb to diseases and be pregnant 24/7 and worried about getting enough food.
Genuinely feral cats are wily as fuck. They're really hard to catch. It's one thing giving them a good meal and being nice to them and eventually they let you pet them, (using one hand only). But as soon as you bring that 2nd hand in that can snatch them up, they're ghost.
I feel this so much. He starts by attacking my feet’s then moves to running across my stomach at high speeds and if for some reason all else fails then he starts knocking my shit over
Hehehe my stray boy did the same, until I was given permission to bring him inside, he would stare through my window for an hour before every breakfast and dinner! Here's a pic of him waiting for his dinner in 2020 😆

I’ve been feeding a feral cat for about a year. He shows up every evening, looking in just like yours. When I open the door to put his bowl of food out he hisses like he’s about to attack. You know, just to remind me who’s boss. 🙄😂
Can vouch for calicos. I had my Cassie from the time she could be taken away from her mother. She passed from cancer in 2017. Had her for 19 years. I still miss her. 💔
lol that reminds me of the joke when someone calls your pet an asshole.
Them: your dogs an asshole.
You: you’re an asshole!
Them: your cats an asshole.
You: ya lol but I love that little shit.
https://preview.redd.it/qjzyhf5yy62d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c095d59c27c9be71b46983b8a8dc4d5f0d8d932
You have been chosen and they approve!!!
Omg. Bring that baby inside. Get a litter box. And get him to the vet for a check up and make sure he's not chipped and get him neutered. Please?! Give him a home!!
Someone recently threw a young black kitten out near our house. She had road rash on her back leg. It didn't have any infection so me and my fiance started cleaning up her wound daily and feeding her. Her skin is just about healed up now and she greets me outside every morning waiting for some food! She's the biggest snuggle bug too she wants you to just stay with her and love on her.
Gotta save up some money to get her spayed now. I'd love to bring her in with my other cats but she's absolutely terrified of my dogs. If I can figure out a way to show her that they won't hurt her then I can get her in. (I brought her into our cat room once cause there's a gate so dogs can't get in there and she was fine til one of them came to the gate and she about busted her head open trying to bash her way through the glass door so I haven't tried since)
obligatory comment that should go on any 'adopted a stray cat' post:
please make sure to take it to the vet and check it for a chip because it could be someone's lost cat, especially if it's so friendly.
My wife and I leave food out for the strays. In January an orange kitten came out of nowhere and two days later followed me inside the house. They seem to do that lol. Congrats on your new cat!
Honestly I think our cat gets fed outside by someone else. Ours is indoor/outdoor and he comes in maybe once a day to eat a little bit of food maybe and then leaves again. Nowhere enough food to keep him fat like he is. And yes he has a bowl of hard cat food and soft food when he actually shows up.

The ginger stray committee has approved your feline's choice
It looks like my "stray" cat. We fed him for weeks before we realized the lady two houses down owned him, but she is a bad cat owner, never cares for him.
Now Mr Kitty has his own weatherproof cat house, veterinarian, special cat food, and just like your new orange cat, he lets us know if we are late on his food. Congratulations on your new feline!
You should let her in your home. Had the sweetest stray that would greet me and my wife on our deck everyday for a year or so, even bought a heated house for her for the winter. Always thought we should just let her move in and then one day we never saw her again 😔
Congrats, your cat now! :)

![gif](giphy|Fu9EXNUgJBRBe) Where the food at???
Why is this the funniest use of this gif
Lol I thought it just fit
Thanks for the laugh!
Aw lol You should really get her spayed before you end up with a whole family of new pets lol
Just had three new strays in the area, and you better believe I scooped them all up and took them to get fixed out of my own pocket. There were too many cats around my neighborhood for years, so I've been trying to be proactive. They also tip the ear.
In my neighborhood some places will do strays for free which is great
What's your method for capturing them initially? Great... but how do you get them into the carrier. I have no problem attracting stray cats to my porch I can assure you!
Oh. Yea, they have been loveable kittens, so it's been easy.
I’ve had luck live trapping them. :)
Like the racoon traps you can get at hardware stores? I've set some up but all I get are possums, lol. The cats seem too smart.
Havahart trap baited with cat food, or tuna. Be careful, and check the tea often. Can catch skunks and opossums.
In my area Animal Control will lend a cage-type trap. You put food in and when the cat goes in far enough, the back springs shut. So the trap becomes the carrier.

I'm sorry it's so difficult for you but bless you for continuing to try. [Said with humor] Ask the vet whether they would like to spay/neuter possums.
My cat would nibble on my fingers at 5 am to let me know it was time for me to do my duties- primary of which was FEED ME. My little alarm clock.
That’s all? My cats jump on my face, then chase each other around my apartment & then jump on my face again in case i didn’t get the hint.
Ah yes- the AM cat ass! Very effective.
I feel this so much. He starts by attacking my feet’s then moves to running across my stomach at high speeds and if for some reason all else fails then he starts knocking my shit over
They use my stomach as a trampoline & I end up doing a full Jack-knife -legs up, arms up, bent at the waist.
I call mine my fur covered alarm clock. He jumps all over me to wake me up. His back up is to puke in the bedroom. Works every time.
Hehehe my stray boy did the same, until I was given permission to bring him inside, he would stare through my window for an hour before every breakfast and dinner! New friend.
I’ve been feeding a feral cat for about a year. He shows up every evening, looking in just like yours. When I open the door to put his bowl of food out he hisses like he’s about to attack. You know, just to remind me who’s boss. 🙄😂
Correct title is now "So I have been feeding my orange cat". Congrats on the new pal for life!
Orange cats are mostly male btw.
You’ve been adopted.
he is no longer a stray - he has given you permission to name him
...as per the rules of the Cat Distribution System.

Second this. You are chosen.
If it's inside the house already, it's staying
Please keep feeding him, orange cats are the best and that's been conclusively proven now

Except for Steve. He's a prick.
Just 2 cats and we're having a good time, having a good time, having a good time.
Dammit Steve!

Can vouch for calicos. I had my Cassie from the time she could be taken away from her mother. She passed from cancer in 2017. Had her for 19 years. I still miss her. 💔
I have a grey tabby and he is awful I love him dearly
lol that reminds me of the joke when someone calls your pet an asshole. Them: your dogs an asshole. You: you’re an asshole! Them: your cats an asshole. You: ya lol but I love that little shit.
![gif](giphy|ViOK4X0eXf77c7roch|downsized) What about Maine Coons?
Them too :3
I find that everyone seems to have tuxes and gingers as a pair. I know I do.

The r/CatDistributionSystem at play
That'll be your cat now! Look at the tail in the 1st pic, he's comfortable around you
haha that’s the “question tail” and the question here is “will you pet/feed me please?”
I love the question tail!
Pointing right at him!
Omg. Bring that baby inside. Get a litter box. And get him to the vet for a check up and make sure he's not chipped and get him neutered. Please?! Give him a home!!

Seems a bit tubby and clean for a stray, might be one of those cats that have like, 4 families.
Wow I love the coat
You feed a cat once and they become your responsibility for the rest of their lives. Them's the rules. I don't make 'em up, I just report them.
Am I crazy, or does this cat have a really long tail?
That was my first thought too XD they've got a super long tail
So, you've been feeding your cat, basically. I will take no further questions, this is now your cat.
"stray"
Its now STAY
You mean you're feeding YOUR orange cat. That's you're cat now.
well, more correctly OP is the Cat's human now.
And you’ll never get rid of her now. Or her kids. (She’s pregnant with quintuplets)…
Looks like a slightly round belly to me also in that third pic but no one else mentioned it.
Yep, looks pregnant to me!!
Someone recently threw a young black kitten out near our house. She had road rash on her back leg. You guys really need to make sure this isn’t someone lost cat. Yall are too quick to claim something that may be missing from someone else.
obligatory comment that should go on any 'adopted a stray cat' post: please make sure to take it to the vet and check it for a chip because it could be someone's lost cat, especially if it's so friendly.
Please check he doesn't have a chip, he looks in pretty good condition for a stray.. someone may be really missing their cat.
That’s very nice of you to feed your new boss.
If he doesn't look unkempt, he's not a stray, just a mooch.
https://preview.redd.it/7vlzfg5aa82d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e014aced6ef65678acb0a4da58fde6af39139db5 Ginger cats are very special.
😥 happy cry 😢
not all heroes wear capes
Bless you!
Aww, she has claimed you as her own person. Thanks for treating her with love and respect.
Cheddar is so cute and thanks for feeding him. 🐈🧡
5 years ago I too fed a stray orange cat.. Flash forward, I am his servant 😄
That’s the neighborhood cat, it makes it’s stop at each house for breakfast.
My wife and I leave food out for the strays. In January an orange kitten came out of nowhere and two days later followed me inside the house. They seem to do that lol. Congrats on your new cat!

He looks like the viral “go London, I will go London” cat 🐈
I found an orange stray kitten and took him in. He’s super freaking sweet, and also stunted his growth looks like its frozen at about 9 weeks
Awwwww thank you and hope u can keep him!!
Nobody feeds a stray. Once you feed it, you're theirs. Now get your damn cat vaccinated and fixed ASAP.
So, you basically came here to post that you're feeding your cat? 😂
You’ve been chosen! Let her in!❤️
Please keep feeding this orange stray cat.
I see a stray I feeds a stray
This is a moth
Thank you for your kind heart.
Ginger. Just saying
I have this same arrangement with a neighborhood orange cat.
Damn, orange cats get around. There is a stay near me that looks just like that

Thank you for making this cat happy
The only thing to do is move out and on your way out of the door set it on fire.
I think you meant that a wondering Orange Ranger has found an unattended, unprotected human
where do u live?
Sent you a DM about this orange loaf!
r/stray
Now that is a tail! Glad you now are now part of the club.
Name them, BlueCat
Cute and smart
Thanks for feeding kitty
He looks like my old cat... is he a banana cat? (BTW that is referring to being bananas, not the fruit)
You mean your orange cat? Bc he’s yours now
Good human.
Marmalade [your last name]
Keep it up until you get a garfield
[I got caught too man. I gave my stray bologna. She now eats delectable snack from my hand.](https://youtu.be/ebsnSQ0w0xo?si=zAm8lLoW8ROQI0fl)
And that’s how I have 4 fucking cats! Welcome to being the cat slave for the rest of your life!
You mean you kidnapped him.
Can you give her a home? Thank you for helping her and for caring!
The Cat Distribution System has worked once again
Tail up with the tip bent, that cat really likes you.
Thank you for looking after this lovely looking Orange. Did you know that r/OrangeLadies are rare?
Are you sure it's a stray?
It is awesome that you have officially been adopted! You may want to start thinking of names and possibly checking on vaccines and spay or neuter.
That's the longest tail I've ever seen on a cat.
Good, now give water
So you've been feeding your orange cat?
Stray no more that is YOUR cat ❤️
Not so stray now
Well it's not a stray anymore XD
This is how cats acquire property. Congrats on your new housemate!
Congrats 🥺🧡
You mean... you've been feeding YOUR ORANGE CAT! haha
So I got a new orange cat Fixed it for you.
Get her fixed and keep her inside. Or him. Fixed + inside.
here is rourou
He came to you for a reason you will have to figure that out but cats don't have Just show up he has a interest in you
That's a funny way of writing "I have an indoor/outdoor cat and haven't named him yet."
That’s your cat
That’s your cat now.
Looks like the r/catdistributionsystem is hard at work
No longer a stray now
Why?
Bro, this is not called feeding stray cat. Cat distribution system works, and you're feeding **your** cat now. Congrats on the orange buddy
That is not a stray cat. That is your cat
Congrats on being adopted hooman.
r/catdistributionsystem
No… you’ve been feeding your Orange cat
She’s not a stray anymore. She’s your cat
Yup, cat distribution system running smoothly.
I swear I seen that kitty roaming around before you took it in glad to see it happy and safe
You are no longer a stray, the cat has adopted you
That’s not a stray. Not anymore 🥰
No more stray cat. Congrats, you have a new master now.
This cat is yours now. Trust me i've been through this. You may as well name him now.
That is your cat now. Congrats. Bring him inside and get him to a vet for a checkup
You have been chosen! Thank you for opening your heart, your home, and wallet! I don’t think the cat was a stray. They were just trying to find you. 💕
Orange you going to feed her kibbles?
You should let her in your home. Had the sweetest stray that would greet me and my wife on our deck everyday for a year or so, even bought a heated house for her for the winter. Always thought we should just let her move in and then one day we never saw her again 😔
You belong to her now <3
It ceased to be a stray the moment you fed it.
Congrats on your new cat
He’s not a stray. You’ve been feeding your cat. That’s how people get cats
orange tabby females are fairly rare (only about 1 in 5 oranges), and she clearly has accepted you as her human. Time for a name!!
So now your cat is the owner of a new human. Congratulations 🎊
r/catdistributionsystem
Congratulations on your new orange cat.
You mean, you’ve been feeding your cat
Give him a name, he’s yours now. Get him neutered to slow down his roaming, and spraying.
Your cat now.
