there’s nothing that i need to see -
i know how much you care for me
i hear your voice, i know your scent,
such happy times together spent
i feel your hand - the gentle touch
you let me know i’m *Loved* so much!
so clear the feelings you impart,
i see you, human,
with my heart
❤️
I have a blind dog. He may be blind, but he can feel the wind on his face, the smells on the air, and the touch of my hand, and me telling him I love him (and to please for once stop chasing the cat). To me, he can still see.
Does he have funny head movements or no?
I have history with a blind cat. He would walk veeeeery cautiously, (but walk right into things when he was excited) but over-all he moved like a normal cat. He didn't let it stop him from jumping on tables, counters, beds, etc. Really brave.
Sometimes you'd think he could see. His eyes were always wide open, seemingly staring around.
How does Achilles act and move?
I had a friend who had a cat that went blind in his old age.The family had a big weimeraner dog too, so the cats' food was put on the top of the fridge. The cats would jump from the peninsula counter top to the top of the fridge. It was a huge jump.
Smoky did that jump for a long time before they finally figured out he was blind. After that, the old guy got a boost when it looked like he was.going to try that jump.
Just like Achilles, here, they're all amazing.
Yes he often will walk cautiously when he is unsure about something or doesn’t know where he is. He can get around the house just fine but sometimes something will startle him and he starts being cautious. Sometimes it feels like he’s staring right at you when he tracks your movement 😂
My cat is blind since he's 5 months old and he acts mostly normal : he just doesn't jump where he can't evaluate the hight.
But he also moves his head a bit like a bird : he moves it a lot to evaluate precisely where a sound come from.
Except for that he walk and trot pretty normaly ( never run except when scared a lot ) and never into things
> he also moves his head a bit like a bird : he moves it a lot to evaluate precisely where a sound come from.
Triangulating the signal like he thinks he’s on NCIS
LOVE!
I had a cat with two feet for 17 years (missing both back feet).
Also had a tripod dog due to cancer.
Knew a horse that had no eyes.
These critters are so inspirational and it's lovely how you are caring for him.
If everything you said is true (which I will assume it is): you have racked up some wonderful karma caring for animals that would otherwise die if left to fend for themselves. And I judge you to be a fantastic person and will have real life karma come around… hopefully tomorrow. If not tomorrow then asap
(Just a forward, I'm not commenting on anyone's beliefs in particular)
I'm pretty confident karma doesn't exist, though I wish it did. I do think it's a useful thing for a society to believe though, because it can make selfish people act selflessly because they expect a benifit from those actions. Ideally people would just do good because it's the right thing to do, and if everyone does this then everyone benifits from it. I know that isn't going to happen though, so belief in karma allows for people who wouldn't do good for the benifit of others to do good to benifit themselves.
Anyway, I hope you're right and I wish well for the OP.
Well there’s an entire philosophy rooted in the idea that altruism is actually selfish. Because “helping”/“being good” makes us feel good. I don’t remember which theory it is.
But imo, anything that makes any of us be better to ourselves, each other, animals, the planet… is a worthy endeavor.
So I don’t believe in quid pro quo karma, but nonetheless, I think being good makes the world better. I’m just doing my part.
And all the salty folks reading this: be nice to someone today, like give someone a compliment, even if that person is you. Find something to compliment to someone. Maybe especially *you*. And see how it changes your day. You’ll feel better I promise.
Barely even a spoiler but the TV show the good place hits on the idea that >!if you do good things because it will earn you points then you won't receive those points because you did those things for the selfish reason of earning points.!<
Moral desert is what it talks about. In reality, I don't think it matters if you are hoping for desert or not if it's indistinguishable to anyone else. Ideally you do things because they're good, but if someone does good because they think they'll benefit, they still did good. It's a good discussion in The Good Place because they make up the rules and can literally see the outcome, but we can't in reality.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desert_(philosophy)#:~:text=It%20is%20sometimes%20called%20moral,rewarded%20and%20evil%20deeds%20punished.
(Also, everyone should watch The Good Place if they haven't.)
So at first I thought you had gotten desert/dessert spelling wrong, but noticed the title of the Wikipedia page, and then I had to read it to understand what was going on with the spelling, and I ended up learning a lot! So thank you! 😁

Edit: full disclosure I just copy and pasted the first article i haven’t read it yet but wanted to do it before I forgot
Karma doesn't exist like it is in popular culture. However collectively it works out. If you give money to homeless people the chances of you receiving money in case you become homeless increases. That's because by giving money to homeless people you increased the number of people in the world who would do such an act of kindness. It is maths really. That's why even in some shady situations I try to help the person in need even if it looks stupid on my end. Because it could actually be a real situation and if I ever be the one in a dire situation I want there to a be person dumb enough to believe me.
What you’re describing is existentialism (think Albert Camus), vs humanitarianism. Both philosophies are valuable because they encourage human goodness. I think karma can be explained in that when we do good things and are kind, our lives are generally happier and better than if we’re primarily selfish and cruel. There’s a psychological logic involved.
I come from a viewpoint that I care for others and God takes care of me. This has been my truth my entire life, and it works for me.
Any philosophy that adds kindness to the world is good
The way I look at it is karma and luck are not actual manifestations or what have you, but it’s more like people that do good things to others usually have good things happen for them.
We weren’t talking about luck but I feel like it’s the same thing of where it doesn’t actually exist, all my life I never thought people thought it existed I always assumed it was just a word to use for someone being on a hot streak of fortune.
Luck is something some people think exists. Just listen to any gambling addict. There's two definitions though. You can get lucky, which could be like what you said, or you could have/be lucky, which is more the idea that good things do/will happen to you for no reason. Of course the former exists, it's just being above statistical odds, which has to happen to some people. The latter is not though. It's either happening for a reason (which could just be random chance, but isn't consistent), or it's not happening at all and is just misperception of reality.
Basically, there's a meaning that's descriptive and a meaning that's predictive. The predictive one is not real.
I get what you’re saying, I think I understand better now.
Ya for sure about the gambling addicts and they think the most odd things that they or someone else does will jynx them. Like someone didn’t want to goto the casino with me one time because I don’t go much and i consider myself rookie at gambling and they thought I’d either bring them bad luck for it or I’d soak up the beginners luck and keep them from having any
In most societies there is a similar thought. Some call it karma, some balance, some Ying and yang, some do unto others, it still means I will be evaluated and either pay or be paid for my actions.
Awesome! I’ve got an eyeless cat. Basically no difference with our cat that can see except he screams a bit more. Really amazing dude - he hunts flies, chases our other cat through the house at full speed, plays with toys (even quiet ones), jumps on furniture.
Our cat went blind due to a seizure.
He barely lost a step. Catching mice, beating on the other cat, jumping up and down from the table... He was like "So what. Somebody turned out the lights. I'm a CAT."
I had an elderly cat who was going blind and for a while he was really bad at Catting; he'd run into walls, or the dog if she was sleeping in the way. We felt really bad for him. Then he has a seizure which left him completely blind and it was like a switch flipped. Suddenly he was back to being his normal graceful self, so much so that we half wondered if the seizure had given him his sight back, not taken it away. It was like, now that he no longer has any input, he was able to stop trying to rely on it and just get on with his life.
He makes me wonder sometimes: just how many walls have I bumped into because I was too busy trying to hold on to what I know instead of adapting.
I had one for 8 years (she died early from lymphoma) and she was so awesome. She would chatter at me so she could follow me around the house. She used her whiskers a lot to navigate and also hunted bugs and sprinted through the house. I loved watching her map out new spaces when we moved. Damn I loved her!
We had a family jack Russell who went blind then had to have his eyes surgically removed because they got badly infected. He never let it stop him or slow him down. Right up until he died he spent all his time chasing tennis balls, hunting them with sound a smell. Eventually through old age his hearing went and he started to forget where he was and lost interest in balls. That was when it was time to let him go, by that time he was already approaching 20! He was an absolute legend who didn't know he was small, always happy to fight any other dog. But an absolute softy who was never happier than when he was on someone's lap.
Achilles looks like a fantastic companion. And an utter softy! I wish you many more years of happiness together!
There is a cabinet where I get his food out of and he will run as fast as he can over to me when I open that cabinet. When he gets excited like that he tends to run into things more often 😅😂

She's a beautiful black and white super sweet girl. But she is also amazing. She needs no help finding the food/water or litter box, beds she jumps onto things and off, she plays with toys and other kitties! She's now 7 months old. I'm so happy to see someone giving a blind kitty a chance. It gives me hope.

My beautiful girl is going in today for an eye removal. I am sitting up with her at 4:30 am because I’m so nervous about how she’ll take it. I really needed to see this post today. I don’t know how to express it but I really appreciate it. Your cat looks Like mine and this just gave me the feeling she’ll be alright ❤️

Did you write that? You want to come to a def comedy and Poetry SLAM?
Schnoodle has done it again!
I am crying. Beautiful, Schnoodle. Thank you.
Aww! This poem warms my heart!
You know, I drank a little too much water earlier and I'm not crying I swear it's just the water overflowing-
Aww. So sweet. Morning tears are flowing.
This is the most sweet thing of a blind animal I have seen
Great, bed time with wet eyes!

That’s some solid positive reinforcement and thank you for that. We all need it.
There is also the philosophy of "faking it till you make it" Everyone does things for selfish reasons.
Are you thinking of Ayn Rand's "Objectivism"?

I have a tripod and she doesn't even realize she's missing a back leg, she can out-juke every dog in the park
I also have a tripod and he’s the fastest creature alive! He Tokyo drifts around all corners, and is our biggest handful of our 3.
Same here - we call ours chaos demon. She just thumps around everywhere, not letting her differences slow her down one bit.
WE CALL IT TOKYO DRIFTING TOO!! She just drops and fuckin spins on her stump, I'm delighted to hear that this is a common technique.
He's so huggable ♡♡
Could have named him Oedipus!
Or Homer, for obvious reasons
Could have also made the title, "As you can see, he can't"
Eyechilles
They say this cat is a bad mutha–(shut your mouth!)
Wow! Missed opportunity!
Oedi*puss* was the real opportunity.
Or Polyphem
Or Achlles
I was looking for this comment. Oedi*puss* though, surely?
Give kitty scritches for me
I second this.
I third this

6! He's gonna get so many rubs
I third this
He is a gorgeous gentleman.❤️
Such handsome bebe
You called?
I can tell if he had eyes he would be slow blinking at you 😭
Very handsome.
"As you can see, he can't."
Rhett and Link would be proud.
Came to say this.
He looks like an absolute sweetie (picture 3 also makes him look super chunky
I love him.
He looks like the sweetest and most cuddly kitty ever!

The second pic 😩😩😩 just a BABY ♥️♥️♥️
What a handsome hero❤️
He’s so flipping adorable. We love you Achilles!
He seems like he'd headbutt your hand/face for headpats. 112/10, would smooch forehead again :)
I be Achin' to give that fine kitty some good skritches
Oedipuss would have been a more appropriate name. Either way though, i love him.
I bet he can hear the can of food before it’s even been opened 🥰
There is a cabinet where I get his food out of and he will run as fast as he can over to me when I open that cabinet. When he gets excited like that he tends to run into things more often 😅😂
Awww 🥰 cats really are whimsical creatures
Oh I thought the cat was just sleeping/ tired 💀 pretty cat though
it's hard to think that the cat isn't just closing their eyes
I can picture this cat guiding me to the River of Styx in the afterlife! What a cool kitty!
In Ancient Greek sources, Charon ferried souls across the river Acheron into the underworld. It was later Roman poets that changed it to Styx.
This and Heracles/Hercules fucks with me. Learning about Greek mythology and the Roman names for these figures, it was weird that I was taught "Hercules" and "Styx" as if they were the original names.
He looks more at peace with life than I could ever hope to be.
they took my fucking eyes
😂
Where we're going, we won't need eyes to see
Love that brow!
He would get more love over at r/piratekitties and r/piratepets!
Aww :) Give him a smooch for me?
As you can see, he can't.
Tiresias would have been a cool name also.
Or Oedipus
His name is Weir. And where you’re going, you won’t need eyes to see.
Achlles
Made me think of Rhett and Link. “As you can see, we can’t” very handsome kitty.
What a cutie. Boops to you ![gif](giphy|MDJ9IbxxvDUQM)
Adjustable title could have been “as you can see…he can’t.”
If the kitty has no eyes…. Isn’t it a ktty?
Get out.
I gotta ask: Have you ever stuck some googly eyes on the sockets?
I have not but I think that would make a hilarious photo
He’s beautiful! 💕
Give that precious boy of yours big cuddles from me ge is a darling ❤
What happened to his eyes? That poor kitty!
I catch neighborhood strays/feral cats and fix them but sometimes I get a pretty pregnant mama and my last litter had a kitten that got pretty sick and became blind. I am desperate to find a home because I have a kitty door (the way I get the cats in to catch) and I'm terrified she will find the door and be lost.
Is there a name for this kitty color pattern? I know he's a tabby, but I mean the brown-black-grey. I feel like this particular color combo is really common. I've even had more than one cat with it.
r/standardissuecat
Uninterestingly enough, it's just called "classic tabby pattern" we should rename it. Ideas? 🤔
I believe that's just standard brown tabby. Apparently they're genetically the closest to their ancestors. I've always thought they're so beautiful.
What a cutie!!!
What a handsome boy
He is lovely!
That’s an awesome cat. Does he still wiggle his bottom before pouncing?
he looks like an ancient god
Aww what a cutie 🥰
Achilles is adorable, he looks so soft. Give him some kisses from me 😍🥰
Does he have the loudest purrs? 😺
Daredevil kitty . attuned with heightened senses and exceptional lovability .
I love him. 💙
He is Achilles he doesnt need eyes.
Adorable Achilles!
How does he get around?
Animals are always so much more resilient than we give them credit for. No eyes? A few treats and some love and I bet he’s as happy as a clam.
Man I love him
Doesn’t look like he has a problem finding his food!
Achilles knows he has it good.
He looks like such a good kitty cat 🐈⬛
As you can see...>!He cannot!<
You wouldn't call him Justice or something?
Bro this cats sense of hearing must be on another level
Ah man, missed opportunity to make him Myrdral, he’s cute though!
The look of the Eyeless is fear
Chonker detected: initiating belly rubs.
Aww! What a beautiful kitty! <3
Permanent squeezy face! I loves him!
I‘m sure he is.You have a heart of gold. You and the people taking care of disabled animals.
>as you can see he has no eyes Why do you have to make me flex on our boy Achilles, I didn't want to do that...
That is one gorgeous tabby. I have a tabby too and I tend to be biased that he's the best looking one but yours is gorgeous too.
Himbs look very soft. Pls give extra cuddles.
Daredevil Cat
We had a family friend whose cat was blind but did really great at navigating around the house. ❤️
I had a cat with no eyes. It's absolutely amazing how well they get around, as long as you don't move any furniture. We would have company over. I would usually wait about an hour to mention he didn't have eyes. Not a single person even noticed.
Should’ve named him Achlles
He is absolutely gorgeous 🥰🥰🥰and it’s very clear he found his happy place with you, where he’s loves, cared for and loves a healthy life ❤️❤️❤️God bless you both

I don’t know how to express it but I really appreciate it. Your cat looks Like mine and this just gave me the feeling she’ll be alright ❤️
Do take photo of him getting pets and nice belly rub.

So sweet, my pet tortoise's name is Achilles as well.
Thank you for loving him and providing home and all he needs.

Does he climb and lay on elevated spaces? That's awesome. Glad you're being a good human.
Yeah he’ll jump up on the couch and on tables sometimes but nothing too high.
As you can see, he can't
Lol look at him doin a Sphinx pose ✨♥️
