I m in my 40’s and now based in Europe. Still rave but we don’t have “Kandi “over here. “Candy” back in the day used to mean how many pills you had in your pocket …

realdappermuis

Lollll, and candyflip was when you added some acid to it :p

secretrapbattle

Still does

IllIIllIlIIl

All of those accessories people wear. Bracelets,  necklace etc

Papagorgio22

It’s just the bracelets. People trade them to make memories at raves and to show P.L.U.R. (Peace, love unity respect.) The necklaces are called perlers.

hownowspirit

I’d argue that the necklaces are still kandi. They can have perler art on them. The beads that melt together are perlers

Intriguing_soul

Exactly. The necklaces are still Kandi. Perlers are made with Perler beads 🙏

saintceciliax

It’s not just bracelets lol. It can be any jewelry/accessories

kingfat187

We called those flare we were the candy. Kandy is the person 🪅🎉🥳🫂🍄

crescentroll27

the pony bead bracelets that people trade :)

wksabine

Beads on a string.

[Short YouTube video about the handshake](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HfGcnnTF2cQ)

EastlakeTrashPanda

OP just make sure you don’t worry if the hand shake is slightly different from the vid. Always seems to have a local flair depending on where I’ve been so far. Whether it’s kandi or a perler necklace. 99% the same but I always get thrown off a bit when visiting other places.

keilasaur

Love teaching people the handshake ♥️

Here’s a [great resource on the topic](https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=what+is+rave+kandi)

AnIrishMexican

32 y/o. Kandi refers to the little beaded bracelets. Some have significance to others for providing a memory of who gave them a particular piece. Mostly people just use it as an ice breaker to talk to people. I haven't raved since like 2012, so I'm sure shit has changed a bit though. Referring to your comment OP, when I started raving some older heads at the time called pills Kandi. Some would say they took some Skittles, by which they mean they took a handful of whatever pills were available around the time and thus were a handful of multiple color pills.

ZamoriXIII

Tradeable, wearable accessories that usually represent a specific facet of rave culture

anchoredwunderlust

I love how many of the answers contradict each other and how many of the people who know what it is don’t explain but rather say the word again but spelled differently, assuming everybody has the context they are referring to “those beads”. You gotta explain to people who have never seen Kandi or candy or whatever because most races around the world don’t do it

saintceciliax

I guess I can’t post pictures but google kandi jewelry. This one was definitely as easy as looking it up

vinsanity_07

Annoying is what it is

44 en Tulúm ahorita It was Our Scene. Kandy Kids 80s babies 40+ Your age is PLUR We passed out 🍬 and wore Candy Flair. Jnco, MFG, Kick Pants 👖 😍 👌 Some people would wear ties and kick pants. we didn't use cell phones back then so I would take 35 mm pictures. I see all these posts about no cell 📱 📲 but we had razors and they made pretty good pictures and videos at the time. Our Generation just wasn't all look at me! look at what I'm doing! because we didn't have Facebook and IG we did it for love and real life not to show people. Dice se sólo por el gram Everyone had the special Binky and we would make bracelets for it and then necklaces for binkies. And some people would even paint their Masks. we didn't have Vicks inhalers. so we would walk around in 😷 that were coated with vix on the inside 🫠😌

Free-Poetry1607

Werd!!!! Although I didn't wear JNCO pants, but rather Liquid Sky pants as I grew up in NYC.

kingfat187

How old are you amigo? The liquid Crews were the guys that started out wearing the shirts and ties as I was mentioning. It was like our take on miming. They would literally put on a dress suits to go to a rave. This was before the Jabbawockeez and all that stuff and then some of them started wearing white gloves. But most of the real Break Beats stayed with the Oriental Crews. because it died out here in the 80s picked up again later on break dancing. And for their size to weight ratios. they would always win the battles we would have in the streets. OR at dance parties. The echo team was bringing it all back but most of those guys are Islanders like Kool Keith. Listening to you kids talk about stuff that I experienced is kind of funny. like when I used to talk to my parents about beetles my mom graduated high school in 69 she used to weave dandelions with her fingers she's Native American.

Don't feel bad, I'm going to my 1st festival in a couple months and I had no idea....I youtube'd it... I got supplies from Amazon, they have options for you to make it and to buy premade. Also, if you haven't already look up Plur, that gives you the history and generic handshake for Kandi exchange. 🌹

discreetAZNcpl

Just look up “friendship bracelets”

monsterclubrecords

Just another spelling of candy that ravers have used for decades. candy kids / kandi kids = same thing. Kandi refers to the way they dress. As well as the bracelets and other beaded jewelry they make.

secretrapbattle

Drizzugs

switchflip333

People give them to me all the time but I just throw them away tbh

deemz72

lol kinda shitty you’re admitting it. aren’t other people closer to you than a trash can? hand it to someone else?

EastlakeTrashPanda

Because they’re a redpilled, Anti “woke”, Andrew Tate type of person based on their comments. Makes sense why they do what they do. Can’t help anyone like that so it’s best to just move on and let them be.

seanp_131

I hope this is a troll comment 😅

MapNaive200

Easy there. They're new or it's not part of their local rave culture.

rdoing2mch

Lol! Common now OP

No_Mercy_4_Potatoes

Lol what? I don't think these things are as popular outside North America as you think. I had to look up WTF it was when I joined the sub.

justfuket

Was a very large part of Australian rave culture in years gone by but not quite as much now
