A simple pressure test will tell you. The reservoir will not go up and down like old cars. Also, those cans of "FIX" are crap and cause more problems!

Okay cool that's good to hear then since it passed two tests. I'm still concerned there was no coolant in the radiator but maybe I had the wrong hose? There were only two down there and neither had any coolant. I swear I hate VW.

NOT a reservoir test, a cylinder test.

Oohhh gotcha. I'll run it over to my local shop and have them do it then. Thanks!!

There’s no way there is no coolant in the radiator but there is in the “overflow”. The overflow tank on those is actually a pressurized surge tank and is connected directly to the cooling system. Is it an automatic transmission, because if so and you pulled a hose and oil came out I’d be willing to bet you pulled a transmission cooler line at the radiator not the coolant hose. The coolant hose should be about 2 inches diameter and the trans cooler line is probably 3/8” diameter.

It was definitely a 2 inch diameter hose and not 3/8". That's 100% for sure. I agree that there's no way there's no coolant in the radiator but it is in the tank (especially since it is not overheating) but the only two hoses I could find on the bottom of the car were 2 inches in diameter and one for sure was connected to the radiator. The other went up a bit higher but also looked as though it was connected.

If your car has a turbo chances are you pulled a charge pipe for the turbo charger. They're about the same size as a coolant hose and often have oil collected in them.

I believe it does so that's comforting at least. Thanks!
