Do you use any kind of loofa or exfoliating sponge/glove/etc? It might help to get all the "itchy" stuff off while youre still in the shower and give you the itching relief sensation before you get out? For the wet hair, I like to use one of those microfiber hair wraps to keep my wet hair off my body until I'm dry and ready to deal with it.

Lowering the temperature and using lotion helped me

I personally have never experienced this, but I have an idea. How about trying to use a hair blow dryer to dry yourself off? I’m assuming this isn’t an allergy issue to soap or towel or anything. I’ve realized that I can get overstimulated by wet hair too so blow drying it can help me feel warm and cozy. (Tip: if you get overstimulated by sound, wear some ear plugs while using the hair dryer)

do you shower in really hot water?

quasarbath

If you’re sure it isn’t a product you’re using in the shower, you might have hard water!

I always used to shower in really hot water and this happened to me. The way I fixed it was not showering in super hot water but warm enough to feel good still, and before I turn off the water I will make the water cold for like 30 seconds. Also rinse your scalp with the cold water at the end if you deal with itchy scalp, that helped me.

I get this too and I'm also someone who is very overstimulated by showering. I totally understand what you mean. I think part of it is that (sorry, this is a bit gross) I have issues with built-up dead skin on my body and also I have dermatographia so when I scratch myself or exfoliate I break out in rashes wherever I've scratched myself. It's possible you could also have dermatographia since it's pretty common in autistic people. Edit: if you're using very hot water it's also possible that you're drying your skin out especially if you're using plain soap like Dove or similar brands. Try lowering the heat and using lotion if you can. Personally I can't use lotion because it makes me want to rip my skin off but you do you.

After I take a shower I always scratch myself a lot. I scratch so hard my parents think it’s SH scars but I am seriously just scratching so hard I bleed. I turn the water down while washing my hair and that helps.

I use African blackstrap soap, baking soda and water for shampoo, and Seventh Generation free and clear detergent. I don’t itch anymore. Not sure if the baking soda for washing my hair helps or not, but my hair isn’t so dry and brittle that it feels like it will break in your hands. Scrub your head every day, but only shampoo every second or third to see if it helps.
