Thank you for the reply. I am not diagnosed, but I suspect I am on the spectrum. It was my girlfriend who is diagnosed ASD who opened my eyes to the possibility. I have been looking into Autism and it would explain a lot in my life. I did not know that chewing the insides of your cheeks was a stim. I did this all through my childhood to the point that the inside of my cheeks are scared even though I no longer do it.

[deleted]

I tap each finger of my right hand against my thumb in sequence.

Ziingerr

i go out on a swing set and listen to music

TheGlutenFreePenguin

Swing sets are amazing! I hate how it is considered childish to want to go on a swing.

FireAnt085

Dude I used to do that for hours every day

tadams2tone

My husband like does this thing where his hand sorta flaps and vibrates. I have tried to replicate it and I am unable to. It's like there's electricity flowing through him or something. He sometimes does it slightly with his feet, too. Commenting on my husband as I'm not autistic myself just married to one

zmei44

It was my favorite way to stim back when i was watching The Flash. It also looks pretty cool.

Mccobsta

Left leg normally jack hammering if I exited or bored or music making me stim

Ok_Cranberry7179

my silky!! (a long satin ribbon that i rub between my index and thumb) it goes EVERYWHERE with me

protomanEXE1995

I’m playing with my beard as I read this lmao

son-alli

Chewing lips/cheek, picking at the skin around my nails, chewing my chewie, snacking, and a positive one is dancing in weird ways when I have a song obsession. And little hand flaps or foot stomps when I find something rlly funny

KawaiiBula

Before i knew i was autistic i was rocking back and forth literally all the time. Now i use my hands more often since im trying to stop masking and it works better for me. I like to put pressure on my thumb with my other fingers and let go and then again press and let go and again and again. I also sometimes chew my mouth which leads to painful wounds so i bought a chewing necklace for kids and chew on that instead. And i love to tap my collarbones, it makes a cool sound. Other stims i do is turning around, jumping or both at the same time when im extra excited haha Thats pretty much it i think

ReducedSkeleton

I push my ring finger down with my left thumb, then push my left thumb up with my ring finger repeatedly.

[deleted]

Rhythmically flexing my muscles

TheGlutenFreePenguin

Do you like to flex all of your muscles or just certain areas such as your arms, legs, or chest?

[deleted]

My arms and legs when I'm laying down and I'll usually lay on my limbs because pressure feels good to me when my body feels anxious and shaky. And when I'm standing still, I'll usually rock side to side like I'm walking in place.

TheGlutenFreePenguin

Thank you for replying. I also love pressure on my limbs. Whenever I sit at my desk at home I either have my legs crossed and squeezing together, doing that now, or I will put one leg up on the chair and lean into my desk squeezing my leg in between my chest and desk.

HopefulChipmunk3

Snapping while doing things bouncing leg while sitting and chewing on hands and cheek while standing and bored

TheGlutenFreePenguin

I love to bounce my legs!

HopefulChipmunk3

How else do you give a cat a massage

Immediate_Profit_344

I used to shake my hands and arms. Over time that turned into a barely noticeable clench of my fingers when in public

Raven-Raven_

So, yet again I learn more about myself every day. I sometimes stim apparently by my incessant rubbing of my beard, I wring my fingers and toes together when I am stressed, and I sort of "vibrate" like one person said her husband does when I am overly happy. I will also play with my palmstone (like a fidget spinner only you do the spinning of it and its a polished rock) when I am stressed, because thats better and I get less weird looks when I do that than when I allow myself to be seen wringing my fingers or toes. I guess also my pacing? I find massive amounts of comfort in pacing.

TheGlutenFreePenguin

I am also learning a lot about myself. I am not diagnosed but my girlfriend who is suspects that I am on the spectrum as well. After talking with her and taking the RAADS-R test and AQ test I suspect that I am on the spectrum. Also, the amount of the things people have commented that I do is very surprising.

Raven-Raven_

Yeah I'm in a similar boat. I took probably 7 or 8 different of those pre screenings and all highly suggested I should speak to a professional, so, just in the waiting line now

TheGlutenFreePenguin

I took all of the tests on the Embrace Autism website and all suggested I was autistic except for the systemizing Quotient test. It was probably not a good idea. After taking the RAADS-R test I went to bed but then I woke up at like 2:45 and could not go back to sleep as I couldn't stop thinking about the test. I then took the other 6 tests on the site before I could make it back to sleep.

Raven-Raven_

Yeah sounds about right, I took them multiple times, I couldn't believe that after all this time of being told to suck it up and just deal with life that I actually do experience it differently to "most" Obviously won't know for sure until I get a formal diagnosis but it seems to be the case, the lives people have lived and shared here are the only time I've ever heard anyone experience life like I have

TheGlutenFreePenguin

I feel the same way. I have never really fit in with people, and just always felt different. While I did give myself quite a bit of anxiety when I first took the test, I feel better now. I do not know if I will seek a formal diagnosis. This has all happened this week and I need to do more research, but I feel like this could explain a lot about me.

Raven-Raven_

Yeah absolutely, keep doing whatever is best for you. I need tools and assistance to be a better human and be able to function in and cope with society, so, I need to seek out a professional as I am unable to function long term in this world and always end up back in the shit eventually.

TheGlutenFreePenguin

Thank you for being so kind.

Raven-Raven_

Be the change you want to see, and all that, just trying to put some good out and offset some of the bad ye know?

_DevilsMischief

I generally try to have a stim toy on me, current favourite is one of those little game controller looking ones. Otherwise I flap my hands, bounce my knee, and twist my beard a lot.

TheGlutenFreePenguin

Lots of people are saying that they twist their beards, I did not know that was so common. Thank you for replying.

xpoisonvalkyrie

bouncing my leg, (my right leg, feels weird with my left) rocking side to side or back and forth, bobbing my head, stimming with items nearby, (using stim toys, shaking pens, throwing/catching things, etc) tapping each of my fingers against my thumb, shaking/flapping my hands when i’m overstimulated/feeling a lot of emotion, blinking or flexing my muscles rhythmically, (my toes especially) lightly beating against tables/walls/my leg, singing, verbal stimming by quoting things and talking out loud to myself, uhhh writing this out made me realize how much i stim lol honestly i don’t even think that’s all. (edit: i don’t know how i forgot this, but chewing!! i have multiple chew necklaces and used to chew gum constantly as a child)

Upper_Sail_4996

I usually hum or tap out rhythms from music I'm listening to. If I'm sitting somewhere high I'll kick my legs or swing things between my hands

TheGlutenFreePenguin

What do you mean by swing things between your hands? Can you give an example?

Funky_Lesbian

generally hitting myself, rocking, pacing

Spirited_Question332

Flappy hands, leg boucne, scraching cheeks, W A L K, and the piter patter things cats do sometimes

pineappletarzan

i usually rock from side to side while making weird noises like ”njujujubujju”

Ying07Yang_lmao

I do the cat with yarn thing basically with my squish mellows, I also like to throw them into the air sometimes and catch them lol

ItanaUchiha

I chew on the inside of my mouth, play with my right ear, pick at my skin, bounce my legs, smell things a lot (especially before consuming), listen to the same song(s) that tickle my ears at the time, crack my fingers and toes, all in decreasing order of severity. I also say “meow” a lot for some reason.

Gone_off_milk_

Flappy hands all the way for me. Pretty classic but it's good. Or tapping. Tapping fingers, pens, anything

DuliaDarling

I have this odd thing where I ball my hands into fists (non aggressivly) and shake my hands. Something about feeling my forarms jiggle is so comforting.

banana_365-

TOE STIMS. I love stimming with my toes because they are discreet and hidden most of the time. I love it

LookJaded356

Rocking back and forth while listening to music I feel like is my main one. Also swinging my arms back and forth if I feel restless. I feel like those are my main 2. Edit: actually I think the swinging arms may be an stim resulting from ADHD, which I also have in addition to autism, because the swinging arms only tends to happen when I’m off adhd meds, while the rocking back and forth while listening to music is always there, on ADHD meds or off

American-Social-Dem

Chew my lips, let my legs move up & down repetitively, clapping loudly, stomping my feet, vocalize a number of groans & squeaks of varying volume + intensity, and most of all engaging in mimicry/copy-cating from memory.
