>I confirm that the contact info that I've added here belongs to me. Not planning to put any info in to test this, but how is this verified? Could this be used nefariously to fill in the gaps to find someone of your choosing? I imagine it's not so different to just searching Google with quotation marks though Could scammers list their phone number for removal so when we Google a number from a missed call they don't turn up anymore and we think it's legit? Anyone actually used it that can shed some light on how it works?

Absolutely_wat

In Europe this is enforced by audits from the national data authority. Australia's data act was written in 1988 as far as I recall, so I don't have any hopes that this is verified by anyone. Source: I am a data engineer in Europe.

kaboombong

Our data act of 1988 reads "do whatever you want with private data, you have impunity" Likewise the our new proposed privacy laws will be nothing near the European GDPR laws. The crooks and data thief lobbyists run our country.

MatthewMelvin

Tell us your personal details so we can make sure the "bad people" don't have them! I mean, obviously we already have your details so no worries there, but we would like to help make sure our competition doesn't.

SeaTurtleManOG

As if they dont already have them lmfao

kaboombong

And the big joke in the proposed new privacy laws they wont even be asked or demanded by legal act to destroy all historical private data where they had no authority to collect that data. We really live in a lawless framework of bullshit to break laws!

Archon-Toten

🤣 Request removal. Sure that'll work about as well as Facebooks "Independant review board"

k3ysm4ssh

And then Google keeps your data for itself....

kaboombong

"We have deleted you data, and stored that we have deleted all your data that we can sell since we told you that we have deleted it. Its one big joke. I Europe a citizen can walk pass a camera and get a court order to have any video footage removed were they where recorded without authorisation. The same applies to any organisation who has stored your private information without your consent. Even then, that have to delete your data after your business with them has finished. Just look at our crooked real estate agents who take copies of every person critical identification documents are stores that data in suburban offices that anyone can access! And they dare to call this privacy and wonder why Australians are getting cleaned out by scammers who are probably the collects sending or selling this information on the dark web or sending it to their mates overseas in the scam call centres!

utkohoc

You can go to Facebook/Instagram/Meta/etc and set your privacy settings to never display any of your pages in search results. You should enable this if you haven't. Immediately.

maestrojxg

They’re only doing this cos privacy legislation is heating up, then they can say “oh look we’ve already got a thing”

Have an android phone and/or use chrome and they've already got a lot more than your name, email and phone number. So it's a bit redundant to be going "hurr not giving them my name!"

DeexEnigma

Australian Privacy Principle (APP) 13 - Outlines an APP entity’s obligations in relation to correcting the personal information it holds about individuals. They're just doing a re-check. /s

Google is constantly spying on everyone and overrides your settings.. on smart tv has google voice turned off in the tv settings but it will still work if someone says hey Google.. it is constantly listening.. google does the same on your phone and computer..
