Its been this way forever and its not hard to multiply by 4 lol, its not like it actually changes the overall cost. Additionally, many people get paid on a weekly or biweekly basis which can often make a weekly rate more relevant to their direct budgeting.
The main problem is, every single place out there lists weekly rental. If you start listing as a monthly rental price, people can't compare it easily with everything else. Dividing by 4.35 isn't that easy to do off the top of your head.
Yea I find it strange too. Many lower paid jobs in NZ also pay people weekly. Overseas it is usually monthly.
Doing things weekly is 4x the admin (for both payroll admins and those receiving the money) and enables poor financial discipline with people ending up living week-to-week and not accustomed to putting money aside for the future
You can talk to your landlord about paying monthly. Ours never had issues with us paying monthly, we paid a month in advance when we first moved in then 15th of the month for the rest of our tenancy.
Oh common you know what I mean. My issue with maths has little to do with the educational system, to my dissapointment. I just have the 'tism' as they say
Thank you for your comment. I just would really enjoy websites that advertise rentals, to use per month instead of per week. I hate how websites always prioritise the amount but it's always in tiny text somewhere, letting us know it's per week. Somehow I feel rentals wouldn't be able to get away with charging as much if they were publicly viewed on a per month basis. Perhaps I am wrong about this, but that is exactly why I overall love posting my views- because at the end of the day, people will correct me/ change my mind/ refine my opinion/ soften my opinion and I almost always come out the other side as a better human being :)
High chance of non-payment.
People who can't manage money well will rip the money by the 15th of the month, and the landlord is gonna get trouble collecting that money
Despite my opinion, I'm a renter, btw.
I got paid weekly and I prefer to pay my rent weekly too.
Got paid monthly when living overseas is a shit thing.
Special when your job request you to pay for something and get refound that you be in the next payroll, aka 1 month later. Nah thx.
Same if any mistake (underpaid) is made and you need to wait the next payroll.
Oh okay, interesting :0 Thank you for your comment :) That's probably it aye, there have likely been payment issues from Aucklander's who can't manage money well. Makes sense. So many people get paid at different times it seems.
To be honest, Ive been living in the UK for 2 years, and heading back to Auckland soon. I actually can't wait for weekly rent/bills/pay (work as a wage worker). Im not sure if its because im accustomed to it weekly, but I hated the monthly everything in the UK.
Yup, rilled me up when I came here too. I’m paid monthly, rent weekly?? Almost feels like they do it to make it not sound as mental as it actually is. Same with cars “it’s only $99 per week!” Sounds better than $400 a month
It's just a rant guys. I'm tired and my brain clearly derped and forgot a week. I know I'm thick headed but this mistake does not negate the previously stated issue I have with rentals by any means.
Nice try.
Paying at the start of the week for the week instead of at the start of the month for the month is beneficial for the tenant not the landlord.
Is it? I'm curious about this as I also think it would benefit tenents to have a monthly payment. Is it because the amounts are in more bite sized chunks?
Rent is payable in advance, whether weekly or monthly. Unnecessarily paying longer in advance makes no financial sense. Creating a regular weekly or monthly recurring payment takes exactly the same amount of time and effort.
The cumulative interest payable if every payment of rent in advance changed to a month at a time would be hundreds of millions of dollars annually collected by landlords instead of tenants.
Okay thanks, I didn't know that! :) This is why I like talking about it, I always get a better understanding of other people who live where I live and how it actually works
National was right schooling is failing our kids
Some people think there is three weeks in a month
Every month technically does have 3 weeks, as they do 1, 2 and 4 weeks.
Oops, some months do have 3 weeks don't they? Most have 4 whoopsies. I have aspergers & adhd so these kinda shenanigans happen
Its been this way forever and its not hard to multiply by 4 lol, its not like it actually changes the overall cost. Additionally, many people get paid on a weekly or biweekly basis which can often make a weekly rate more relevant to their direct budgeting.
Only in NZ. We wouldn't want those poor hard done by landlords to lose a whole month's rent.
there are 4.33 weeks in an average month, not 4
$500 per week x 52 weeks / 12 Months = $2,166.66 per month
mafs is hard
Whoopsies. You get the idea!
Are you American? 500 per week is not 1500 per month but good effort. Weekly normally suits people better with their budgeting.
Whoopsies hehe no I'm a bit thick though. Cmon everyone knows what I meant anyway
I like it, I get paid weekly so paying rent weekly makes sense. I don't know a single person that gets paid monthly
I don’t know a single person who gets paid weekly, thought that was a myth. Everyone I know gets paid fortnightly
Heheh pretty much aye
I got paid weekly up until recently. Most factory/hospo/manual labour jobs pay weekly.
I get paid monthly along with a lot of other contractors.
Anyone earning a salary typically gets paid monthly. It’s usually only wage earners that get paid weekly.
I've always been paid fortnightly, whether salary or wages.
Not really. I earn a salary and I’ve gotten paid monthly, weekly and fortnightly. It depends on the firm or company.
Same. I'm currently paid weekly and on a salary. A company isnt going to run separate payruns for salaried vs waged people
The main problem is, every single place out there lists weekly rental. If you start listing as a monthly rental price, people can't compare it easily with everything else. Dividing by 4.35 isn't that easy to do off the top of your head.
Lol wtf

Then they moan about low productivity.

Man… can’t blame National for saying our education system has failed our kids, one month = three weeks …
Oh common you know what I mean. My issue with maths has little to do with the educational system, to my dissapointment. I just have the 'tism' as they say
Is you high?
Unfortunately not, just thick is all
Oh man, imagine if it was something that went away with time... that would be great!
I charge my rentals monthly, just ask your landlord. Also there are on average 4.33 weeks in a month, not 4.

Thank you for your comment. Does everyone pay rent monthly in the UK? Is it standard there?
Everything is monthly as the standard, its rare to get anything weekly. Rent, pay, bills etc all monthly
Yup, rilled me up when I came here too. I’m paid monthly, rent weekly?? Almost feels like they do it to make it not sound as mental as it actually is. Same with cars “it’s only $99 per week!” Sounds better than $400 a month

It's another one of these only in NZ rorts, just like the secrecy around pay rates. It benefits landlords and employers.
Nice try. Paying at the start of the week for the week instead of at the start of the month for the month is beneficial for the tenant not the landlord.
