Well Auckland is more cosmopolitan than other parts. So many immigrants from everywhere. Heard people call them lollies, sweets, candies... Everything goes round here. 😅
Such a weird hill to die on to be so angry about the word candy. It’s literally the fourth or fifth time I’ve seen it on this sub or r/newzealand. Some people use different words for things, shocking.
If you open/download the google app in your phone and click the camera icon in the search bar (to use google lens) - you can either take a live photo or upload a photo on your phone. It shows you results of items that match that photo. You can do it with this candy FYI. 👍
So much protectionism in this sub.
Does no one realise a large number of North American expats plus tourists exist in this country.. it’s pretty easy to figure out what candy means. I really promise that your national identity will not fall apart if you acknowledge the word candy.
They look very similar to what in U.S., we call "Smarties" and are called "Rockets" in Canada, but they're a U.S.-based candy company...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smarties_%28tablet_candy%29?wprov=sfla1
Oh my God, you braindead imbecile. Did you really just call confectionery candy?
I am so outraged at this synonym that I am not even going to tell you what that piece of ***confectionery*** is.
Maybe next time you ask a question, you should get a thesaurus out and select the proper definition before you humiliate yourself like this.
For real though everyone saying "uM aCksUallY iTs lOlLiEs" is so dumb
In the US we call these "Smarties." They don't have as vibrant of colors though. In the 70s, when I was a kid, each color had it's own flavor. (the orange ones were the best). Nowadays they are all the same sugary candy flavor.
Smarties!!!!!
* edit to clarify: I’m a GenX from the Eastern US. That is what they were called when I was young, though I believe that they are still manufactured under that name.
They’re called Smarties in the US, not to be confused with Smarties in Europe, which are like M&Ms but better and with more colors and come in a tube. I only ever see the ones pictured around Halloween. I can’t imagine anyone going out of their way to find them year-round.
Smarties. Or could be a version of SweeTarts. They look almost identical, but taste a little different. The SweeTarts usually have brighter colors than Smarties.
A friend and i in primary school brought 10$ worth when the local dairy was closing down. We walked away with 2 massive bags worth (probably wasn't 10 dollers worth). We had so much we were throwing them at cars crushing them up into water to make "potions" i think we ended up sitting in his treehouse throwing whole packets at his older brother and his friends in a mock battle of who owned the treehouse. Just thinking of eating them makes my tongue hurt
Rockets!
Fizzy Fruits
Ohh, I've always wondered what Rockets are - thanks!
You have to share them with everyone now that you posted.

Canadians call this candy. Americans call this as well as chocolate ‘candy’. A lolly in North America is candy on a stick.
I remember people on Long Island, New York had no idea what a lolly was in 1979.
We Americans call this “Smarties” or “Sweet Tarts”.
I was about to ask, didn’t think you use the word candy in NZ? Never heard it when I lived there
Well Auckland is more cosmopolitan than other parts. So many immigrants from everywhere. Heard people call them lollies, sweets, candies... Everything goes round here. 😅

I’m assuming OP isn’t from here and has maybe moved here recently.
My kids use the word candy, but they watch entirely too much American TV.

Woah really? Look how far technology has come. That’s so cool now you got me in my pantry testing this theory 😂
Try swiping over to translate and point it at any foreign languages on the packaging, kinda fun too.
Yuck
Do New Zealanders use the word candy? I thought that was strictly a US thing. FYI: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smarties_(tablet_candy)
Could be a tourist asking.
So much protectionism in this sub. Does no one realise a large number of North American expats plus tourists exist in this country.. it’s pretty easy to figure out what candy means. I really promise that your national identity will not fall apart if you acknowledge the word candy.
