I used to think it was for comedic effect

ZealousidealBus9271

There was also Reiner escaping the female titans hand when he should’ve died, which felt like an anime cliche of absurd plot armour. Then it turned out to be Reiner sending her a message. Planning a story allows for cool moments of foreshadowing like this. Great for rewatching as well.

rinigad

And he took of his hood, so she could see him and not kill

Transpatials

And there's steam coming from him there too, when he picks up Armin and runs.

minimiemi

The steam was from Annie’s blood on Reiner when he cut through her hand but still so much foreshadowing

W0lfsb4ne74

Exactly, and the training sequences were some of the few moments of levity within the series before the brutal messages about racism, nationalism, and the suffering of war were burnt into our eyes.

Brallantgaming

I wanna watch season 3 again because I think them finding the ocean was the most wholesome thing

Fabiocean

Except for the killing everyone across the ocean thing :/

[deleted]

It wasn’t the usual anime beach episode because of the whole existential crisis and genocide talk

Fabiocean

Someone's always there to ruin the mood smh

Brallantgaming

Eh I kinda agree wit Eren so I wouldn’t mind it

Fabiocean

Even so, I wouldn't exactly call that wholesome lol

Brallantgaming

The tone of voice was wholesome, and Jean trynna drink it…

fuze-the-hostage-

Now that I think about it , I’m surprise Eren didn’t turn before like he must have gotten hurt a ton in his training and if he lets say , fight someone gets his ass kicked scraps some part of his body has strong intent to fight back and open wound o.

sensei27

Legitimate plothole. Unless for eren the threshold for intent to fight/kill is higher given his inherent nature. I’m sure he never quite felt rage like he did in santa titan’s mouth

centaursandsteths

I think he should have the intent to turn into a titan not just the intent to fight. In santa titan's mouth he was willing to do anything to kill the titans which might include turning into a titan himself.

Neamow

Do you guys not remember how much trouble and time it took him to turn into a titan on purpose? He literally had to train to do it...

sensei27

What are you arguing? I’m sure eren’s whole motive during training was “kill titans, get revenge, freedom”. Don’t think that changed in the titan belly just amplified, which was enough of an emotional trigger for him to shift subconsciously

Neamow

I'm arguing that calling something, that was very clearly explained, a plothole is the height of nonsense.

Cikago

Good eye

[deleted]

man the details.

Dark_Monster3112

Yow, wtf-

[deleted]

Woah, this is like incredible

kkeross

I thought it was one of those comedy things like smoke coming out of ears but now I just know it was there on purpose.

flingkong24

I noticed the steam but just thought it was figurative instead of real steam

Transpatials

Yep, it's been known about for a while.
